Jack has had a rough life so far, but somehow it hasn't changed his heart! Jack was kept in a harness that was way too small for him, causing his skin to grow around the harness and an open wound to form. He was tied up and neglected, and likely abused. Somehow he managed to escape that horrible situation and was picked up as a stray by Dallas Animal Services. Now, Jack is learning what it means to be loved and he is very optimistic about his future! He follows his people around from room to room, just wanting to be with them all the time. He will lay quietly at your feet or come up to get some petting. He is starting to open up and give kisses and loving in return. He is fully potty-trained and dog door trained. He takes food very gently (he LOVES hot dogs and will do anything for a bite of one!) and even though he was clearly starved, he does not guard his food in any way. He is low energy and doesn't need a ton of exercise, although a walk here and there to explore and smell would be great. He gets along well with other dogs and they help him feel a little more comfortable in uncertain situations. Jack received surgery to repair his harness wound and will be undergoing heartworm treatment soon, but will be ready to receive love from his forever home after that! Jack is available for pre-adoption only at this time, as he is heartworm positive. Heartworm disease is a non-contagious and treatable condition in dogs, but is fatal if left untreated.
