At only a day old, the New York bunch arrived at SNIPSA with their momma, Lady Liberty. She was found, very pregnant and very hungry roaming around Karnes County. She gave birth to her litter only a few hours after being picked up and a day later, made her way to SNIPSA with her six pups at her side.
Unlike their other four siblings, Hoboken and Queens have had a little bit of a different life so far. At about 4 weeks old, Hoboken and Queens found themselves in a bout of mischief to say the least. Both pups began losing motor function in their legs and were feeling pretty crummy. We placed them in separate foster care to give them undivided attention and get them well. What caused them to lose function in their legs…we’ll never be sure…if only they could tell us their story.
Hoboken was unable to use either of his front legs in any way. We would have to support his head to eat and help him to stand up. But after weeks of working with him, Hoboken began to get stronger. His left front leg is now fully functioning and we have not given up hope on his right. He has been doing hydrotherapy and is worked with constantly to get that leg moving. At the moment, Hoboken gets around fine as a “tripod” and if needed, we will amputate. With three legs or four-Hoboken is just as playful as any and keeps up with his sister. He wrestles all day with her or chases after the toys. Hoboken loves to be snuggled and will steal your pillow just as fast as he’ll steal your heart.
