My StoryI am a gentleman who loves to go out on a walk, but I don’t need to get anywhere too quickly. I love to have a good time and play, but I’m ok with just hanging out if that’s more of your thing. I have been at my current place for about 6 months now and I’m really looking for a change of scenery. I know a couple of commands in Korean and I am very good at “sit”. How many dogs do you know that are bilingual? Also, have you seen my eyebrows? Handsome huh?My Perfect MatchMy last relationship ended after 5 years so I am really looking for somewhere to call home again. A dog bed, a couple of toys and someone to show off my amazing qualities to would be ideal. Also, if you are up for it, I really enjoy a good back/butt scratch. My Ideal DateI’m a pretty laid back guy so I would love a quiet stroll through the national park while we enjoy the company of one another. We could keep it low key and go back home to watch the game and relax with a cold one afterwards, or we could stay out and see the sights and picnic. I will also say that ending the date with a few kisses is probably a given.Send me a message if you’d like to share your home with me. Of course I’m up for a long-term place to call home, but if a short-term foster commitment is more your thing I can be flexible.***Want to learn more about this sweet boy? Meet the Golden Girls - Blanche, Rose, and Sophia! These three lovely ladies arrived at the shelter after being abandoned in a rental unit. But they aren’t letting that get them down! This bonded trio depended on each other for emotional support in the shelter and now that they are in a foster home, they are really hoping to go to their forever family together. Blanche, who appears to be the oldest, is so loving and outgoing. Like her namesake, she just can’t control her wiggly, shimmy when she is so excited. Her tail moves like a fan behind her at all times! Blanche loves kisses, cuddles, and just wants to be in your lap. She loves to snuggle under blankets if she doesn’t have you to cuddle with. She is so caring that when Sophia banged her head, Blanche was there to lick and kiss her boo-boo.Sophia is a cheeky little love who often sticks her tongue out. It matches her personality! Sophia LOVES to zoom past you and dare you to touch her as she speeds by. She is fun-loving, game-playing, very active, and often takes on the role of protector of the trio. When it’s rest time though, Sophia would love to share your lap, too!Little Rose has the sweetest face. She’s happy to let the other two take charge, but don’t let her initial shyness fool you. Rose does the cutest twirls when she is excited. She is very mellow and is slowly coming into her personality, learning what it means to be loved. The three girls are spayed and currently live peacefully with another chihuahua and a cat! Rose is the most interested in the cat and is quick to tell everyone the kitty approacheth. Buckbeak loves his snuggles and his people. He is a very good listener and super food motivated so if you have a treat he will do anything for it! He is very friendly with everyone he meets. He very much enjoys his walks but not so much being outside in the yard unless it`s sunny in which case he`ll sunbathe for a while. He loves his squeaky toys. Is a very sound sleeper, although he prefers a people bed to a doggy bed. He needs a good amount of exercise to combat his boredom- he likes to chew things. But after his walks and a little playtime he`ll go down for a nice, long nap. He loves naps. Buckbeak is the sweetest baby boy. If you love walks, cuddles and kisses he`s your man. Oh and isn`t he so handsome!?Here are some notes from his short-term foster home:`He loves to be on the couch or bed and sometimes gets too comfy and doesn`t realize he`s on the edge. He`s fallen off several pieces of furniture.``When he gets the zoomies you have to be careful if you`re in his way. One time we were playing and he was chasing me but knocked me down. After he jumped over me he came back to see if I was OK and kiss my face.``When I first picked him up he immediately fell asleep. I have a seat cover that goes in my back seat and one of the buckles came undone so the sling fell as well as Buckbeak. I looked back to check on him and he was content, still laying down on the bottom of the car. He`s a goofball!` show less

Buddy is the epitome of resilience. After his owner died and nobody in the family could care for him, he lost the only home he ever knew and was surrendered to the shelter. Buddy was understandably afraid those first few days…. he would shake and cower and we were pretty worried about him. But then Buddy decided this wasn`t such a bad place after all and we all finally got to meet the real Buddy! The confident, goofy, sweet Buddy. The very chatty Buddy! That`s right… Buddy has all the gossip and he wants to tell you all about it. Oh, you`re looking for a housetrained dog? Check! One who walks nicely on a leash? Check! You`re also looking for a dog who likes to go on hikes and explore? Check! And you want a dog who is sweet and happy even after all he`s been through? Check! Buddy lived with a poodle in his last home, and we think with proper and slow intros, he could live with another dog again. More than anything, though, Buddy is looking for a human to come scoop him up and remind him that it`s all gonna be okay. He`ll return the kindness with sweet Buddy kisses. As a member of the Orange Dot Crew, Buddy goes home with a harness, training voucher, and all the support and guidance you need. Check out Chuck with his one pointy ear and one floppy ear! We`re already in love.Chuck is a classy, calm, well-mannered gentlemen with his trademark pointed ears, model-like dimples, and scrunched face, he makes heads turn with these stunning characteristics. As if those wrinkles didn`t distinguish him enough, he makes the cutest strange little noises to help let you know just what he`s thinking rather than barking. Chuck is very observant of his surroundings and loves to watch the world go by without displaying any reactive behavior. We did not test him with another canine companion but could imagine his low-key demeanor would carry over in those situations but would recommend a meet-and-greet as with any addition to a new squad. He would make for an excellent apartment roommate to a human given there are skyline views or a nice porch to roam. Chuck can be your well-behaved restaurant patio companion for happy hour drinks or Taco Tuesdays as long as you`re willing to share because he LOVES tacos but not so much P Terry`s french fries (I told you he was unique, right?!). On weekends, he`s down to get a bit adventurous and stick his toes in the waters of the Greenbelt and catch a tan sunbathing by Lady Bird Lake. Chuck is still getting used to the idea of someone leading him thru life instead of roaming the streets alone so he takes a bit of time to gain trust and will need a confident owner willing to help him build up his own. He may not walk perfectly on a leash just yet but he will not pull and can be trusted. If you`re able to provide Chuck with an urban lifestyle he so greatly deserves, he`ll reward you with the luxury of loyal companionship for life. Come down and meet Chuck at Austin Animal Center today! show less

Meet Diesel! This sweet boy spent a month in a foster home who loved him dearly. They wanted his future adopters to know this``Diesel needed some time to warm up after spending almost 3 months in the shelter but he did so very quickly. We have two pups and the bond that they have created over the past month has been beautiful to watch. He is a gentle giant, a sweetheart, and will steal anyone`s heart that he gets to spend enough time with. He requires some work and training but the investment you get back when you put in that time with him is indescribable. We opened our home to Diesel but now our hearts will always we be open to him as well. He loves to cuddle up with you on the couch and is perfectly happy being part of a dog pack. It will be one of the hardest decisions in our lives to bring him back after fostering him and if we had the space to keep 3 pups we would have absolutely adopted him ourselves. To the family who adopts Diesel:Give him some time to warm upHe appreciates knowing boundaries and rules of the houseMake sure he has bones and toys to play with because eventually when he is ready it will light you up with joy to watch him playHe loves booty rubs and gives the sweetest kissesIf you give him your love, time, a warm place to sleep, and some food, you will receive love in abundance for years to comeWe love Diesel and we are so heartbroken to see him leave our home but we are excited for the future adopter who will get to experience his love.`Learn more about Diesel by contacting his staff Champion at lorian.epstein@austintexas.gov. Little Miss Giddy Up has been spending some time in a foster home, and here is what her foster mom has to say:`Giddy is really a household service animal in many different ways. She ensures any critters like squirrels and birds are aware that she is there and they ought not to be. She helps to remind you to pick up small chewable items off the floor. She cleans up any food or drink spills quickly. She ensures you are never lonely while using the restroom. She makes sure while you shower, no drips come out and hit the floor by promptly licking them up. She will also lick dry your legs if you let her. She destuffs all the stuffed animals on the floor so they don`t hurt you while you sleep. And best of all, she makes sure you know she loves you. She is the most lovable lap dog anyone could ask for. She sneaks into your bed and your heart faster than you think is possible. One time we had gone to Tractor Supply for an in store pickup and decided to bring her. She introduced herself to anyone within leash distance and wiggled so hard for them and soaked up all the loves. I`m not sure how, but she was trying to show me something and pulled me through the store to get me there. It turned out she could smell the dog toy section from across the store and just NEEDED a new one. She got to pick one out and carried it to the register to check out. ADORABLE!`If you want to learn more about Giddy and find out if she could be your next forever friend, email her foster mom at cldalgetty@gmail.com show less

Luke was fostered for several weeks, and his foster dad wrote this to share with adopters:`I’d like you to meet Luke who is currently available for adoption at the Austin Animal Center!I have been fostering him for a few weeks and wish I could adopt him but can`t because of how much I travel for my job. But what I can do is the next best thing and help him find a forever home faster.A little about Luke, he is a gentle, affectionate, and cuddly boxer mix weighing about 45-50 lbs. He is about 1-1.5 years old so still a bit of a puppy and will fill out a bit more. He is completely house broken, and likes to play but knows to be gentle if you play flight with him. He is good with other dogs, cats (from a previous home), and kids. He can entertain himself with toys but likes to play fetch sometimes and knows how to `drop it` and put the ball for you in your hand.He is a very good walker but gets excited for other dogs and people and will pull strong but he just wants to say hi and be friends. He is even learning to wait before he crosses the street. He likes to chew but will stick to balls, bones, toys, and sticks if they are available. He will destroy soft toys. He is smart and obedient and is very quickly picking up commands from me and impulse control in the only 2 weeks that I have had him. He’s good in cars and when he sleeps he just wants to cuddle in bed, so hopefully you are ok with that.He is a good guard and will bark but not bite at strangers before he quickly warms up to people you invite into your home.He is a little shy sometimes when he first meets new people but don’t let that discourage you, he is truly a great dog for any home that wants a sweet, caring, and active dog and I would love to get him adopted. So please share him and if you or anyone you know is looking for a great dog please ask for a visit at the Austin Animal Center.Check out Luke`s IMGUR post with pictures and videos!https://imgur.com/a/4G8exFV show less

People are Mamas` favorite. She wants to always be nearest them if she can and her favorite pastime is napping at her owner`s feet. Mamas enjoys long walks and even occasional jogs. When she visits a dog-friendly restaurant or bar, she will likely position herself in the best spot to meet the most people. She has even been known to walk up to perfect strangers at other tables to nap at their feet. Mamas has never met a person she didn`t like and the kids on her street know her by name because she is so gentle, warm, and loving towards them (gives lots of kisses). She has even done well at the office, too! She has never had an accident inside the home and she asks for permission before joining you on the bed or couch. She doesn`t bark much and doesn`t have an overwhelming presence (jumping on people, getting rowdy when guests enter the home). That`s not to say she doesn`t have a warm welcome when her owner walks in the door. She does laps around the house when her caretaker arrives home after a day of work to show her excitement that you have finally made it home. Overall, Mamas is a wonderful companion and would be the perfect touch to a home that is missing a little extra love and personality! It remains a mystery as to why someone hasn`t adopted her yet! Mingus didn`t have the best start when he came to AAC. He arrived as a skinny stray and was pretty scared and confused. Luckily, Mingus was able to go into foster and he has been doing great! Mingus would love an active adopter who will take him out and about in our lovely city. His favorite activities are learning new tricks, hiking around Austin, and swimming in the creek. Mingus likes to play with other pups, and he has an exuberant play style. As such, he`d do best with a playful, confident dog. A yard to run around in would be at the top of his wish list! Mingus enjoys what his foster calls `Tub Time` every evening. This is when his foster turns on the water in the bathtub, and then Mingus hops in and splashes about. His foster actually leaves the bathroom so Mingus can enjoy his Tub Time solo. He doesn`t make a mess, either… he just enjoys getting his little paws wet. It is seriously the most adorable thing! Mingus has been working with a trainer and he is doing really well; his trainer says he`s super smart! Mingus will go home not only with a training voucher, but also with the assistance of the Orange Dot Crew. They will make sure you have all the guidance, support, and equipment you need to make Mingus a successful member of your family. Meet Rickshaw!Rickshaw has great social skills with other dogs, and has even been good around respectful cats! He was able to go on a sleepover with a volunteer, and they had this to say about their experience with him:`We live in a tiny home and this gentle giant made our house feel full of love without making it feel crowded or overwhelming due to his snuggles and was the perfect houseguest. When we met Rickshaw in the shelter he seemed disinterested in us and distracted easily. There wasn`t anything that jumped out to us about him but we noticed he was smiling in his shelter photo and he hadn`t shown any signs of happiness. We decided to take him on a field trip which turned into us calling the shelter late in the evening to let them know he would be staying for an overnight because he SHOCKED us with ability to open up and learn what it`s like to be loved again. Honestly we think he may just be a bit broken hearted his human didn`t return for him all this time and still searching for them. He has some warming up to do but he has already started down that path and has a whole hell of a lot of love to give and shows appreciation with his well manners. He is a stick his head out the window kind of dog, LOVES PTerry`s drive thru and knows they give bigger cookies then the ones he gets at the shelter. He enjoys nature trails and seemed adventurous in learning what water is. He could happily ever after be an apartment dog as long as there was a balcony with a high traffic of people and dog watching mixed with long walks.`Come meet this amazing dog at Austin Animal Center today! show less

A letter from Sam`s foster family:`Sam`s favorite thing, by far - is to give kisses! So much so that we have to say `Okay, no more kisses for now!` We have timed it - he will kiss you for over 2 minutes straight if you let him. He absolutely loves to cuddle and be by your side. He loves to sleep in the bed if allowed, but is just as happy on a dog bed next to you. He loves playing with his foster siblings- who are 15 and 30 lbs less than what he his. They like to play rough. And to be honest- he takes a minute to learn to love a new dog. But once they slowly meet he becomes the submissive one in the friendship. Our 1.5 year old pup loves to pull on his collar, although we don`t allow it, he just sits there and takes it. He is the sweetest dog to humans too- sometimes he gets a bit excited and nibbles, so would do best with older kids or adults, but I have never met a more loving dog. He loves walks- but also loves his sleep- a lot. He wouldn`t have any issues living in an apartment. He runs in our back yard at times but usually does his business and comes back in right away. He stays in a crate while we are at work during the day with no problems. He has no food aggression at all and LOVES his chew toys- which he kindly gives up if one of our bratty dogs takes it from him. We joke about trading in our 2 dogs for him. We are only allowed 3 dogs per our HOA, and we do not want stop fostering- otherwise we would claim him as our forever pup in a heartbeat. I am jealous of his future forever family, they will have one of the greatest dogs alive.`If you think Sam is your next `forever pup`, email jacqueslagel@gmail.com to learn more about him! show less
