Meet Aaliyah, or as we like to call her, Ali. This sweet little gal came in to the Society when she was only a few days old. As an orphan, Ali didn't have a mama cat to take care of her so she was fostered with a member of our team. Her foster mom had to wake up every 2 hours for the first few weeks just to bottle feed this gal - and it was well worth it! Ali has grown up to be a spirited young cat who enjoys fetching, snuggling, and the company of feline peers. She is currently in foster care while we work to find her a forever home. Ali is a special needs adoption as she is experiencing "chronic diarrhea" on and off her entire short life. Our veterinarians suspect this may be a lifelong condition. For that reason we're looking for a very special adopter to make her a part of their permanent household. Iconic as a god from ancient Egypt, Anubis is a special dog, worthy of his namesake. He is very energetic and playful, and loves to play with toys. He is good at entertaining himself- tossing toys for himself, then chases them until he gets bored, and moves on to the next exciting thing like doing zoomies. He can be nervous with hands coming over his head. He has a history of being friendly with unfamiliar dogs, and even engaged with the fake dog briefly. He does have a rough and tumble play style, so other dogs should be equally matched. He is a bit of a bulldozer, so a house with older kids, or adults is recommended. Intermediate due to: Strong and energetic, will need physically capable adopters. show less

Meet Bear! This dog totally lives up to his name. He's 76 pounds of muscle, and is a pretty active dog. He loves to chase toys and play fetch, and will drop for next to be tossed. He will need a lot of daily mental and physical exercise, which will need to be more than walks. He likes food and treats, which will be beneficial when it comes to training. Bear will do best in a home with a yard in a quiet area, as he will likely be dog reactive when on walks/in yard. He has not been socialized around other dogs, and will chase small animals, so most likely would do best as the only pet. He is recommended to go to a home without small children due to large size and jumpy behavior, which has potential for knocking small children down. Bear appears housebroken, and is reported to be crate trained. She has lived with kids before, but will need a house that is equipped for her high energy shenanigans. She seems to enjoy the company of other dogs with matching play-styles, and loves play group time. She is very affectionate and cuddly with everyone she meets. She can be jumpy when first coming out the of the kennel, but she does calm down after a few minutes. Cute and Cuddly Cody is ready for his forever home. He is friendly both in his kennel and out. He is strong on leash, but lacks some confidence when he hears new sounds (they cause him to tuck his tail, and flinch). He does recover quickly, and really likes treats, so that will help him become more self assured. When he was out in the training room, he liked sniffing the whole room, playing with his toys, and getting attention from people. Cody spent majority of time life living by himself in a bedroom, so he hasn't had any housetraining, or obedience training. He is smart, likes treats and catches on quickly, so that will help his training. Be prepared, that he can be snatchy gobbling up those yummy treats. Cody was reported to be destructive in his previous home, but with some socialization, proper confinement and adequate mental and physical stimulation, that should not continue to be an issue. If the anonymous person writing biographies could have a favorite dog here at the shelter - Heisenberg would be it. This sweet lug was brought in when his family was having a baby. Heisenburg was overwhelmed with kids in the past who were playing too rough with him, so the family decided to bring him in. This guy loves belly rubs and will do anything he can to get closer to you to give kisses. A bit on the chunky side, Heisenberg could benefit from some nice long walks with his new owner. He does not seem to really care about the dogs around him, his main focus is on seeking out more attention from people. As an added bonus, a generous donor has sponsored his adoption fee! show less

Kaiser is a dog trainers dream! He is smart, and so eager to learn new skills. He would likely fit into numerous types of households. Kaiser is very sweet, and a happy-go-lucky guy. He's strong and active, and will need physically capable adopters. Though he's an adult, he's still quite goofy and playful; he'll need plenty of mental and physical exercise, and could use some brushing up on basic manners. He can be vocal when he sees and interacts with other dogs. He has been in playgroups, but he can pretty rude and physical with the other dogs. It appears that he may not quite understand how an adult should interact with other dogs, therefore adopters will need to help him practice a more appropriate approach and actively work on better his overall dog manners. With the support and guidance he needs, Kaiser seems like he should make a charming and affectionate pet. Meet Leo & Theo! These two big boys came to us when their previous owner could no longer care for them. While with us, we have noticed they are attached at the hip! Theo, the big grey boy, is the more outgoing kitty, while Leo can be a bit shy when first meeting you. Both of them love to explore and cuddle together at night. Introducing the handsome Mabu! Mabu came to the shelter when his owner became ill and could no longer care for him. Mabu is a talkative fellow who can sometimes meow rather loudly - but that's just because he has so much to tell you! He's loaded with personality and one thing for certain -- you will never be lonely when Mabu is around! Lovable and entertaining, Mabu is certainly one of a kind!Along with his many wonderful attributes, Mabu does have some pre-existing medical conditions that are not yet affecting his well-being, but of which his adopter should be aware, as they may require treatment at a private vet. Among them are a heart murmur (Grade 2 of 6), with mild heart enlargement, as well as the beginning of some declining kidney function. Mabu is a wonderful cat who was clearly very loved. We are hoping to find him a home where he will get plenty of love and care, and in return, he will show you what an awesome guy he is! We just love Mabu here at the shelter, we hope you do too! Say hello to this lovely boy, Mack! He came to us when his previous owners had a change in lifestyle that did not include him. Mack is a very sweet boy who enjoys a nice, calm pet and maybe a few tasty treats, too! However, Mack was quite stressed here at the shelter, so his true personality won't truly show until he is settled in his new home. It might take a little work for Mack to learn to be comfortable with you, as he can be very shy initially. He has been noted in his previous home for guarding, like stolen items and rawhides. Because of this and Mack being a shy boy, he would do best in a quiet, adult only home. Give Mack a chance and he is sure to win your heart over with his sweet, calm demeanor. Opportunity knocks for Onyx! This handsome guy came to us when his owner sadly became homeless. Wanting to do what was best for the dog, Onyx was sadly surrendered. Onyx has lived with another female dog, but has not met any other dogs during his life. We are still getting to know Onyx, but he has been friendly with staff and volunteers. He spent some time in our rehab facility overcoming a nasty strain of kennel cough, but is feeling better now, and is ready to find his forever home. Harry Potter fans get ready, as Potter "solemnly swears he is up to no good!" If you see him in his kennel you may believe this to be true, as Potter does like to share his opinions with people, and dogs walking by. But, when you take him out and actually get to know him you discover that he is friendly with strangers; playful and active. He is good with handling, except for having his feet touched. Potter originally came from Alabama, through one of partner shelters, so we don't have any history of his behavior around children, or cats, so supervision would be a must. He is occasionally reactive to other dogs on leash, but can also ignore them. Potter didn't show any resource guarding noticed at the time of assessment. She starts off a little skittish in new spaces, and around new people, but warms up quickly. She has mastered the first part of fetch, but would rather chase toys than actually bring them back. She is very playful and active, knows sit, and likes treats. She does have a history of guarding high value items (rawhides, pig ear), so a new owner should be prepared to work with her on that. Once we were able to win Sarah's trust we got to know a little bit more about this sweet girls personality. She is a busy little bee, and doesn't seem to keep her focus on one thing for too long. She may not have had positive experiences with dogs in the past, as she does seem leash reactive. Her new owners will need to help her work on that. She is still pretty skittish, and may do best in a quiet home without a lot of foot traffic, or other animals. She is very affectionate, and likes the attention of people. Hello! My name is Sid and I'm a sweet, loving dog. I love humans so much, I follow my foster parents around wherever they go! I want to be pet by everyone I see on the street - sometimes so much I'll jump on people. I am still learning what it means to have good manners, luckily my foster parents have me on the right path!Whether indoors or out, I make very little noise, so I'm perfect for folks who want/need a quiet dog. In fact, I prefer a quiet home, too, since loud noises can make me anxious. My perfect owners will have a calm home, with no other pets, and ideally an enclosed yard. They'll also be patient, since I can get jumpy and mouthy when I'm over stimulated. I might still have a bit to learn about being the perfectly behaved pet, but I'm already housetrained; crate trained; and know 'sit', 'come', and 'stay'! Please meet Smitty! Quite the handsome dude, Smitty came to the shelter when his former owner could no longer care for him. Smitty is a nice fellow who enjoys attention and pets. He's curious and enjoys batting around fun kitty toys. Along with his many wonderful attributes, Smitty comes with an immunodeficiency virus called FIV. There is no treatment required to halt or diminish the infection, however, as a new owner there are several ways to manage his health in the future. FIV cats are best kept individually away from other cats, but are more than welcome to cohabitate and mingle with other species. FIV is only contagious and transmittable between felines.
