Sister and brother pair from Riata colonyEmail Foster directly (for these kitties only) at KittyFoster.Shawna@gmail.com Beyla (Seal Point Siamese mix) and brother Loki (Flame Point Siamese mix) Beyla, named after the Norse Goddess of the Earth (which also translates to 'Brown' or 'Little Bean'), is a sweet and playful Seal Point Siamese mix from a Riata Colony in NW Austin. The foster mom Shawna is a regular feeder at the colony and first spotted Beyla and her brother Loki in Fall of 2017 as kittens at the established feeding station. As feral kittens, they were extremely shy at first, but foster mama established a private feeding station for them and their mama 'Freya,' (named after the Norse Goddess of fertility because she has had many litters at Riata, as she was resistant to trapping). Shawna was very patient with this family and over time, they learned to trust her. When Shawna called to them for feeding time, they came running from several apartment buildings away and proceeded to rub all over the branches at the feeding station all sweet and cute and if to say, 'yay! food! Yay! thank you! let me love you from a short distance!' Shawna knew these babies would make sweet companions if she could house them and spend time socializing them. Beyla was the first of the two to approach Shawna and ask for pets and purr. She is a real sweetheart! Loki is more fearful, but sweet. Neither of them ever swatted or tried to bite Shawna in fear; they have a truly sweet disposition. Beyla’s brother is a flame (red) point Siamese mix called Loki, named after the Norse God of Fire and Mischief, (Flame point, god of fire, get it? lol!). When Shawna set up the drop trap, mischievous and playful Loki decided to rub his chin on the suspended corner of the drop trap, nearly trapping his mom and sister prematurely! Shawna had to spook him away, but he came right back to play with the draw string that pulls the trap shut, again nearly trapping mom and sister! lol! This brother and sister are a bonded pair and Shawna really wants to keep them together. They comfort each other and Beyla helped teach Loki that Shawna was safe and helped to socialize him and when Beyla was first spayed, she would not eat (for 2 days) until Shawna put Loki in the crate with her, so he comforts her. When scared, they huddle together and they love to play and snuggle. Beyla and Loki are Feline Leukemia and FIV negative and were vaccinated for Rabies, FVRCP, FeLV and microchipped. Update: Shawna has fostered these babies since April and they have really come a long way! When Loki is sleeping on the bed, Shawna can put her head on him and snuggle and pet him and doesn't move, but just purrs and wants more pets. Beyla was less shy from the beginning, so this was huge for Loki! At feeding times, they both rub on Shawna's legs and want pets, Loki especially loves pets on the forehead. They love to play; Beyla LOVES chasing the red dot, and Loki loves the toys on a string. They make the most adorable chirping noises to Shawna and each other. These babies are super sweet and affectionate, but still a little skittish with loud noises or sudden movements. Beyla will climb all over Shawna to purr and receive pets. Loki sleeps at the foot of the bed with Shawna and isn't afraid of normal sleeping movements and Shawna can reach down and pet him just fine. (Note on Mama: when Freya was trapped, it was discovered that she had two more kittens already, and Shawna was able to locate them and put them in the carrier with Freya and took them home. They were three weeks old at the time of capture and they were fostered together by a friend. Those two kittens were adopted together on Mother’s Day weekend through ASR! Yay! Unfortunately, five year old Freya is too feral to socialize to find a home, but she was spayed, vaccinated, combo tested (negative for FeLV and FIV), microchipped and returned to her home. She has been seen many times since release and she looks healthy and happy! Shawna will continue to attempt to socialize her in the field.)
