About Bella

Check out this beauty! Bella has got those long, luxurious locks that we all dream of having! Eight year old Bella was surrendered to the shelter for being grumpy. Her owner said sometimes she is ok being pet and sometimes she swats and hisses at you. She was concerned about her young grandson in the home. Fair enough- Bella probably isn't a cat for young kids. But "grumpy"? Isn't that just being a CAT lol? The first time we met Bella, she let us pick her up and hold her and graciously accepted pets from us. The second time- she swatted us away. I'm ok with that! Sometimes I wish I could swat people away too lol. Bella seems to do fine with the other cats in her cat suite. She mostly just chills on her own in one of her cat boxes. So calling all you dedicated crazy cat ladies and men! Anyone out there like a challenge? Or maybe you want a pet, but don't have a ton of time. Maybe you're cool with letting Bella do her own thing in exchange for the honor of petting her here and there. ;-) Bella is looking for a human that "gets" her and her grumpiness... is that you?! Visit Bella at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Bella's $25 adoption fee includes spay and 3 in 1 vaccination.

Meet Buddy! This handsome fella is full of fun and energy! He loves to run and play, and fetch is his favorite game! Buddy actually had surgery back in October for a fractured leg; the area has healed, but he does still have some lameness with that leg and probably always will. It doesn't stop him from getting around AT ALL, though! Buddy spent time in foster while he recovered from his surgery, so we know a bit more about him than we sometimes do with the other shelter dogs. For starters, his foster mom says Buddy gets along with other dogs of all sizes. He loves to play and can keep up with the other dogs despite his leg. Buddy LOVES people and is super friendly and outgoing, but he is a young dog and can tend to be a bit "mouthy" at times. Because of this, we recommend older children only for Buddy's new home. And oh yeah- did I mention he has a hint of an underbite? This handsome dude was lookin' like Elvis for his pictures and got me ALLLL shook up! ;-) If your family sounds like a good fit for this amazing dog, come visit him at the MCAC West shelter, 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Bring your dog in for an intro! Buddy is approx 1 yr old. His adoption fee is $25 and includes neuter, rabies certificate, County license and prior vet care/surgery. Hours for the shelter at 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. show less

Well isn't this guy just cute as a button?! Say hello to (you guessed it) BUTTON! Button is an outgoing and friendly guy who loves to meet new people. He loves attention and pets, and hasn't met a stranger yet. Button has a great moderate energy. He is definitely spunky, but at 6 yrs old, he's past that spazzy puppy age. Button loves going on walks and tugs just a bit on the leash when he's excited. Otherwise, he walks nicely. He knows "sit" for a treat already and would love to learn more! Back scratchies? YES, please! Button will slow it down to appreciate the finer things in life, life a good back scratch. :-) Button did well overall with his dog eval. He greeted the other dogs just like he greets people- with exuberance and maybe a bit overbearing. It's all coming from a place of excitement though, and wanting to meet a new friend! The good news is that Button takes corrections well, and an tone it down when directed. If your dog at home sounds like they might be a match for Button, bring them in for an intro! You can visit Button at the MCAC West shelter in Phx (2500 S. 27th Ave.). Button has been waiting since December for his forever family to find him! Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Button's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

Another Puppy Senior alert! :-D Holstein is listed at 7 yrs old, but that's the prime of life for this guy! Holstein LOVES his toys and is happy to get a good game of fetch or tug of rope going with each new person he meets. He has the cutest habit of dropping the toy in front of you, then play bowing/waiting until you throw it (see picture in comment section below). Holstein has a fun energy, but he's not TOO crazy like some of the younger dogs. He's still down with a little cuddle time too! Holstein also knows "sit" for his toy (he seemed to be waaaay more toy than food motivated). Even though Holstein came in as a stray, it's obvious he was someone's dog at some point; who knows what other tricks and training he has under his belt! Would you believe this awesome guy has been at the shelter THREE long months?! Holstein did well overall during his dog eval. He was nervous at first, but warmed up over time and became social and playful with the other dogs. If you have a dog at home already, please bring them in for an intro and we can help make sure everyone gets along prior to adopting. You can visit 7 yr old Holstein at the MCAC East shelter at 2630 W. Rio Salado Pkwy., Mesa. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Syn. Holstein's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

SHAZAM! POW! KABLAM! All action words that perfectly sum up JJ. And HOLY EARS, guys! This lady's ears are as excited about life as she is! JJ is a super happy, energetic and outgoing dog. JJ is cray cray IN her kennel but she is much calmer out of her kennel. That said, JJ is an active gal and that couch potato life style is not for her. JJ loves to go on walks, run around the play yard, and pounce on her toys. She is a whirlwind of fun and silly! At first, I was trying to get her to pose without knocking the backdrop off the wall, and flinging hot dogs everywhere. But... then I just gave in and went with it. JJ is that friend who you know is up to mischief, but it's SO.MUCH.FUN. you roll with it anyway lol. JJ had me cracking up by the end of our photo session! Speaking of friends, JJ is all about being your friend. She isn't so energetic that she can't slow things down a bit for a good back scratch and some kisses; she is a very affectionate dog and sure each new person she meets is her BFF! JJ is pretty strong on leash, but hey- we could all use a little arm work-out now and again, right? ;-) JJ maybe knows "sit" for a treat? She did it a few times, but was too busy bouncing around the other times to sit. JJ's eval notes indicate that she was "stiff" with the other dogs, but easy to correct. If you have a dog at home already, bring them in and we can help make sure everyone gets along. You can visit 4 yr old JJ at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. JJ's $25 adoption fee includes spay, rabies certificate and County license. show less

Do you love a calm dog with just a hint of pizazz? If so, you'll love Nigel! Nigel is a mostly mellow dude prone to random bursts of zoomies. The zoomies don't last long, so have your camera ready! Every time I clicked "play" on the video, Nigel hit "pause" on the zoomies and looked at me like, "What? You didn't see anything." 😜 Well played, Nigel. I'll get those zoomies on film one day. ;-) Nigel is a super easy guy to spend time with. He walks great on the leash and is very friendly. He loves to sit by you and be pet, and if you stop petting him, he will nudge your hand or give you gentle licks for more pets. Nigel loves treats and is working on "sit" (he does it about half the time). Mostly, Nigel just wants to chill out next to you- he IS all about that couch potato life! When we were walking around the shelter, someone commented that Nigel's ears looked like little Doritos lol. I totally see it. And now I want to hang out with Nigel and devour a bag of Doritos. Dogs and chips- what more could you ask for? ;-) Nigel did well overall with his dog eval. He took correction well from the other dogs and mostly just trotted around and did his own thing. A lot of times people think dogs need to love each other right away, but honestly, co-existing is a beautiful thing! If your dog at home needs a chill companion that won't be all in their face, bring them in to meet Nigel! You can visit 5 yr old Nigel at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Nigel's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

Meet Rocky! Who says “old dog” has to mean “slow dog”?! Not THIS guy! Seven year old Rocky has all kinds of spunk! Rocky loves to stay active- walks and fetch are two of his favorite things, and he’s a pro at both. Rocky walks great on the leash, and will fetch and drop the ball for you every time. Rocky is an outgoing guy who loves to meet new people and go new places- he's got people to see and places to go! Rocky knows "sit" already for his toy or a treat and would love to learn more in his new home. Can't teach an old dog new tricks, you say?! Rocky is up for the challenge! ;-) Rocky did well with his dog eval; he had good social interactions and was friendly during his time in the yard. Bring your dog in for an intro and we can help make sure everyone gets along. Rocky was surrendered to the shelter for "wanting all of the attention". His former family says that Rocky would nudge the other dog out of the way and "snip" at their four year old daughter when they were getting attention. Rocky may do best in a home with no small children. If you already have another dog at home, be aware that Rocky may need some help learning that it's ok to share the love! Dogs are always willing to learn if YOU are willing to teach! s $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

It's Ulrich Von Likenstein- your knight in shining doggy-armor!! Ulrich has all the fair maidens swooning! His big ol' blockhead and confident Pittie swagger have set hearts aflutter all across shelter land. Looking at this guy, it's obvious he's in tip-top jousting shape. Ulrich loves to stay active and is looking for a family that can keep up. Ulrich even does some sweet spin moves in the air at times- chasing dragons, buddy? ;-) The first time I met Ulrich, he was playing it cool and mostly ignored me. There's just SO much to sniff and see in the yards, that sometimes it's hard for the dogs to focus. This second time I met Ulrich though, he was full of personality! Ulrich loves to chase toys (but not bring them back), sidle up to you for booty scratches, and show off "sit" for a treat. He's a smart and active guy who is ready and willing to learn more tricks and training in his forever home! If you have a dog at home already, a dog intro is required prior to adopting; bring your dog from home in and staff can assist with a meet and greet. Even the knight needs rescuing sometimes, and Ulrich is looking for that special family to rescue him from shelter life and take him to his very own forever castle... is that family YOURS?! Visit 2 yr old Ulrich at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Ulrich's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less
