Abby (Needs foster)

Female Adult Beagle (mixed)

Name: Abby Suspected Breed(s): Beagle mix Gender: Female Age: 2 years old Weight: 20 lbs Personality: Friendly, quick learner, playful,... show more

Name: Abby Suspected Breed(s): Beagle mix Gender: Female Age: 2 years old Weight: 20 lbs Personality: Friendly, quick learner, playful, smart, energetic, goofy, cuddler Observations with Dogs: Abby is playful with dogs off-leash, but she is reactive when on her leash. She would do best in a home with a fenced yard and in a low-traffic neighborhood so she can avoid meeting dogs on leash and/or gradually build up her tolerance for it with training. Observations with Cats: Loves to chase so would do best in home without cats. Observations with Kids: Gentle with kids but not overly warm and affectionate. House Training Progress: Mostly house trained but has accidents when she is anxious and when she is transitioning to a new environment. Crate Training Progress: In general, she does well in the crate and will voluntarily nap inside. When she's anxious, she has a hard time settling, especially in a new and unfamiliar environment. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Playful Abby will bring a toy to your feet to ask you to play, but she can also amuse herself by wrestling that stuffed squirrel into submission all on her own. Abby is a great cuddler and a fun, energetic companion who is always excited to meet new people. If you follow Abby on a walk, you'll see that her nose is all beagle! Abby is a joyful dog in many ways, but she also has anxiety that requires a patient adopter who is willing to work on training and power through setbacks. Abby is reactive to dogs on leash, which makes her hard to walk in a dog-dense urban environment. Because of that, a fenced yard is a big plus so she can have outdoor playtime and potty breaks without fearful encounters with dogs. When transitioning to a new environment she initially exhibits some separation anxiety and has accidents, but she shows a lot of improvement in both of these areas once she has an opportunity to settle in, understand the routine of the household, and learn to communicate with her new caregivers. Abby is a sweetheart who deserves a champion: someone willing to stick it out with her long enough for her to feel like she's home and able to show off her true wonderful self. Apply to be Abby's hero! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Behaves well at the dog park. Observations with Cats: Would do best in a home without cats. Observations with Kids: Would do best in a home without children. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Does well in crate Location: DC area foster Additional Information: Don’t let Bear’s name fool you. He's a softie – he loves to cuddle and lay in laps. He wants to be friends with everyone, occasionally jumping up to greet people. Bear enjoys a good game of fetch or tug or even a round of wrestling. He is also a gem at the dog park and has gotten along well with the dog in his foster home. Bear needs an experienced dog person who will commit to training to help him be the well-mannered dog he wants to be. With some people, he's displayed resource guarding -- being protective of his belongings or food -- but he's very responsive to positive reinforcement training and that should be continued. Bear is a great puppy! He's eager to please, affectionate, and energetic. He's looking for the right experienced dog person to help him blossom. Observations with Cats: Would do best in a home without cats Observations with Kids: Brendan has been friendly and gentle with the children he has met out and about, but he needs more training not to jump up to show his love, as his big size can be a little too much for little ones. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Brendan is adjusting to being crated in his foster home. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus Co, NC Additional Information: Brendan is a complete love bug!! He’s a large lap dog tipping the scales at 80 lbs and still filling out. He loves to give giant hugs to everyone he meets, but is learning only to give hugs when invited up. He’s super eager to please and has been responsive to training just in the first two weeks. Brendan gets along well with the other large dog in his foster home, but has shown a bit of a prey drive with small dogs. Brendan is gentle with people and playful with dogs. He gets along swimmingly with his foster brother and looks to him for guidance. This boy loves to play but chills out quickly. He’s good with a walk in the morning and one at night. Bonus: Brendan is great in the car and has had zero accidents! He doesn’t even pull on leash unless he sees a friendly human he wants to greet. He’ll make a wonderful dog for a very lucky home. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Observations with Cats: Not tested but likely no cats as she was very interested in her previous foster's chickens and bunnies. Observations with Kids: Good with kids House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Has no regular schedule in the crate, but has done well for short periods of time while crated Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Smyth County, VA Additional Information: Ellie Mae was an unclaimed stray who was found in the middle of the road. Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less

He was likely mostly an outdoor dog, but he is happily adjusting to life taking a snooze and snoring on the couch! Following his beagle instincts, he’s always searching for new scents and yummy snacks. When he’s not exploring his surroundings, he loves to snuggle up to his people and give hugs. This friendly gentleman does well with everyone and loves to make new friends. Apply today to adopt Elmer! Elmer was sponsored by Monique B. as her birthday fundraiser.
