Name: Copeland Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd mix Gender: Male Age: 1 year old Weight: 55 lbs Personality: quick learner, playful, funny, protective, outgoing, affectionate, goofy, energetic, snuggler, eager to please, good running partner Observations with Dogs: Copeland is anxious when meeting dogs on walks, so he would do better in a quiet, less dense neighborhood. Observations with Cats: Tested well with cats Observations with Kids: Good with kids House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Quiet in his crate Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Copeland is a silly, fun, energetic and loving young dog. He pounces on toys like a champ and is generally a goofy and happy pup. He wants to bring all of his joy to his adopter! He promises to be a good boy if you'll give him lots of treats to help him put on some weight. Copeland has already learned "let's go", "sit", "go to mat", "trade", "go get it", and he is working on "come". He would make a terrific companion for anyone with a house and yard in which he can feel secure and fully express his playful nature. This goofy young boy loves socializing and playing, and he learns new games and commands very quickly. Copeland loves to go running, but he is also great inside. When company is over – including kids – he will make friends instantly and be the life of the party. He loves the outdoors but feels anxious and is reactive to crowded or busy city streets, so a quiet suburban environment would be the best fit for him. Apply today to meet handsome Copeland! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Cratos prefers smaller dogs as bigger dogs can intimidate him. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Loves kids and is gentle with them. Cratos wants to play with every kid he meets. He quickly ends up on his back so they can rub his belly! House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Untested. He is not crated at his foster home. During the day, he stays in a certain part of the house and does fine. He sleeps through the night in the bedroom or living room. Location: Needs foster Rescued From: Pocahontas County, WV Additional Information: Cratos has a happy demeanor and easygoing nature that make him a favorite among kids and adults. He is good with some dogs, such as his foster’s friend’s dog who he plays with all the time. Name: Dobby Balentine Suspected Breed(s): Feist / Labrador mix Gender: Male Age: 2 years Weight: 30 lbs Personality: Funny, trainable, quiet, energetic, shy, gentle, eager to please, defense, snuggler, calm, easygoing, affectionate, protective, smart, loyal, friendly, playful Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs on and off leash, acting very playful. Dobby has a blast at day care and dog parks! He would do best in a home with another similar-sized dog (He is afraid of big dogs.) Observations with Cats: Tested well with cats Observations with Kids: Children’s sudden movements can upset him and make him anxious. For that reason he can not go to a home with children or planning to have children. House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Dobby does not like the crate, but he is trusted to have free roam of the house.  Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Dobby is a sweet, caring and wonderful dog. He has the cutest habit of sitting on a stool so he can watch out the window as his people leave and return home. This fun boy is a loyal friend who loves to sit near (or on) his people and get belly rubs and ear scratches. Dobby is happy to sit near you quietly all day or go for a long walk, whatever you prefer. He’s also a huge fan of playing with his toys, and when playtime is over he drags them around the house as he lovingly follows his people around. He is a good learner, and he knows the command “leave it” and does very well with “drop it” if he isn’t feeling anxious. Dobby is only available for adoption in a home outside the city with another dog. Dobby's adopters will be very lucky indeed! Dog Name: Homer Suspected Breed(s): Lemon Hound Gender: Male Age: 8 years old Weight: 62 lbs Personality: Easygoing, funny, trainable, goofy, eager to please, friendly, gentle Observations with Dogs: Homer is good with other dogs. When on walks he can’t help but whine to go meet other pups, but then all this goofy boy does is take a quick sniff and move on!  Observations with Cats: Homer ignores the cat in his foster home and would prefer a cat that will ignore him instead of trying to play. Observations with Kids: He is gentle with kids, but noise and commotion cause him anxiety, so a home without children would be best. House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Homer prefers not to be crated, but he is trusted to be uncrated in the house. In his current foster home, he sleeps on a dog bed in their bedroom. Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Looking for a long-eared goofball? Apply today to meet Homer! He is a handsome boy who loves a good scent and a good meal. This gentle giant seems to think he’s smaller than he is: at 66 lbs, he’d still love to crawl right up into your lap. Homer has a sweet, calm, and serious demeanor, but he also has playful moments—like tossing his head and putting on a real show for you. It’s quite a sight! His beautiful hound dog eyes and ears get him lots of attention while out on walks. Homer is very friendly, a good leash-walker, and meets dogs nicely on leash. He does have some anxiety and likes routines—always knowing when it's time to walk, eat, and nap. He sure loves to have lots of sniffs when he’s out and about. At home, he gets super excited for dinner and leaps around and barks—especially if any of his favorites are on the menu—such as peanut butter, cheese, and green beans! Homer is looking for a forever family that will adore him as much as he will adore them! (It is hard not to love this adorable, happy pooch!) Homer is not well suited to apartment living, and needs to be adopted to a single family home. Will you give Homer a home? ** Homer is sponsored by Kim Rueben as a gift to her nieces and nephews. Together they sponsored 3 dogs for CDR. Thank you Kim and family!  __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less
