Name: Abigail Suspected Breed(s): Boxer mix Gender: Female Age: ~1 year old Weight: 44 lbs Personality: Friendly, playful, eager to please, shy, quiet, adaptable, snuggler, loyal, gentle, calm, affectionate Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs. More comfortable around smaller dogs like her foster brother, a medium size puggle. Observations with Cats: Good with the shelter cat Observations with Kids: Skittish around small, loud, unpredictable children she meets on the street. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Learning to adjust to the crate. Has been left up to 3 hours in it. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: The outside world can be an intimidating place to a shy, sweet girl like Abigail. But Abigail tries to stay upbeat and paw-sitive, if you are by her side.  Lovely and affectionate, Abigail just wants to sit and cuddle with you. As she becomes more acquainted with the hustle and bustle of city life, you’ll see her confidence grow, and those ears, once flat against her head, will perk up and her tail will wag. With each visit to her doggy daycare, Abigail becomes more social and playful with other dogs. At home, she gets along well with the low-key resident dog. A second dog at home can be comforting for Abigail when you are not around. Abigail is an amazing pup. She will make sure that you never lack for affection and companionship. He promises to be a good boy if you'll give him lots of treats to help him put on some weight. Copeland has already learned "let's go", "sit", "go to mat", "trade", "go get it", and he is working on "come". He would make a terrific companion for anyone with a house and yard in which he can feel secure and fully express his playful nature. Dog Name: Cratos aka Keegan Suspected Breed(s): American Bulldog mix Gender: Male Age: 3 years old Weight: 90 lbs Personality: smart, trainable, energetic, shy, playful, eager to please Observations with Dogs: Good with some dogs off leash, and working on meeting dogs on leash. Cratos prefers smaller dogs as bigger dogs can intimidate him. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Loves kids and is gentle with them. Cratos wants to play with every kid he meets. He quickly ends up on his back so they can rub his belly! House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Untested. He is not crated at his foster home. During the day, he stays in a certain part of the house and does fine. He sleeps through the night in the bedroom or living room. Location: Needs foster Rescued From: Pocahontas County, WV Additional Information: Cratos has a happy demeanor and easygoing nature that make him a favorite among kids and adults. His previous foster stopped on walks for all the kids so that they could pet him. He is so patient and gentle with them and loves to roll over for belly rubs! Cratos gets nervous with some adults and large groups of people, but once he knows and trusts you he is a very loyal companion. He is good with some dogs, such as his foster’s friend’s dog who he plays with all the time. Cratos is leash reactive and will do best in a quiet, suburban neighborhood and with an adopter who is physically strong enough to handle him. Cratos needs an adopter who will strengthen their bond through positive reinforcement training. This handsome boy with a huge heart just wants to be loved. Name: Dobby Balentine Suspected Breed(s): Feist / Labrador mix Gender: Male Age: 1 year, 9 months old Weight: 30 lbs. Personality: Funny, trainable, quiet, energetic, shy, gentle, eager to please, defense, snuggler, calm, easygoing, affectionate, protective, smart, loyal, friendly, playful Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs on and off leash, acting very playful. Dobby has a blast at day care and dog parks! He would do best in a home with another similar-sized dog (He is afraid of big dogs.) Observations with Cats: Tested well with cats Observations with Kids: Children’s sudden movements can upset him and make him anxious. For that reason he would do best in a home without children. House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Dobby does not like the crate, but he is trusted to have free roam of the house.  Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Dobby is a sweet, caring and wonderful dog. He has the cutest habit of sitting on a stool so he can watch out the window as his people leave and return home. This fun boy is a loyal friend who loves to sit near (or on) his people and get belly rubs and ear scratches. Dobby is happy to sit near you quietly all day or go for a long walk, whatever you prefer. He’s also a huge fan of playing with his toys, and when playtime is over he drags them around the house as he lovingly follows his people around. He is a good learner, and he knows the command “leave it” and does very well with “drop it” if he isn’t feeling anxious. Dobby will do best in a home outside the city with another dog. Dobby's adopters will be very lucky indeed! Name: Dorothy Suspected Breed(s): Terrier mix Gender: Female Age: ~5 months (as of 4/18/2019) Weight: 12 lbs Personality: Playful, gentle, smart, shy, trainable Observations with Dogs: Great with other dogs. Playful but picks up on social cues and does not overstep. Observations with Cats: Good with her foster's cat Observations with Kids: Great with kids! Gentle with young children.  House Training Progress: Making great progress. She is learning to give a loud bark when she needs to go out. Dorothy is willing to invest the time in the training if you are! Crate Training Progress: Does well in crate, though not without a little initial bark in protest as if to say, “Do I really have to?” Sleeps in crate at night, but did well in first night uncrated. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Galax County, Virginia Additional Information: Even at her young age, Dorothy knows that there is no place like home. She’s looking for a family who will love her for her sweet disposition and playful nature. She already has two fans at her foster home---the resident dog and cat. Both of them enjoy Dorothy’s “play hard and then crash” approach to having fun. When playtime is over, Dorothy settles down and relaxes near her people. Calm and gentle for a puppy, she is also a quick study. When she knows it’s crate time, she is clever enough that she will not come over immediately! This beautiful girl is full of life and love and would be a great companion, especially in a home with another playful dog or cat. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less
