2026 Foster Contract

Foster Commitment

By checking the box below, I agree to:

• Attend NNR foster orientation and follow guidance provided

• Communicate with my NNR coordinator and ask questions when needed

• Provide updates on my foster dog’s progress

Care & Daily Responsibilities

I will:

• Provide fresh food, water, shelter, and appropriate exercise daily

• Use safe handling practices at all times

• Follow all veterinary and post-operative care instructions

Medical Care

• All veterinary care must be pre-approved by NNR, unless it is a life-threatening emergency

• Life-threatening = immediate risk of death

• Unauthorized expenses may not be reimbursed

Safety Rules

For the safety of the dog:

• Dog must be in a secure fenced area or on leash and supervised at all times

• Dog may not be left outside unattended or chained

• No dog parks or uncontrolled dog interactions

• Minors may not handle the dog unsupervised

Approved Handling & Training

To ensure safety and consistency:

• All dog sitters, handlers, groomers, and trainers must be pre-approved by NNR

• Trainers/handlers must complete NNR’s required waiver before working with the dog

• Use of aversive tools is not permitted, including:

• Prong collars

• Choke chains

• Electronic collars

• Retractable leashes

• Any tools deemed inappropriate by the foster support team

Custody & Placement

• I will not transfer custody of the dog to anyone

• I will return the dog to NNR upon request

• NNR is responsible for placement decisions

• If I am interested in adopting, I understand approval is required

Adoption (If Applicable)

• If approved to adopt, I agree to complete adoption within 48 hours of approval

Communication & Emergencies

• I will notify NNR immediately if the dog is:

• Ill

• Injured

• Lost

General Understanding

• Dogs may cause damage (chewing, accidents, etc.) and NNR is not responsible

• Behavioral and medical history is based on available information and may be incomplete

Media Release

I give permission for NNR to use photos/video of the foster dog for rescue purposes (social media, education, website, etc.), without compensation.

Liability Waiver

I understand that fostering involves inherent risks. I agree to release and hold harmless National Newfoundland Rescue, its volunteers, and affiliates from liability related to the foster dog.
