City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model).

Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.
Cat specific: Rabies, FVRCP, Feline Leukemia vaccines. They are tested for FIV and FeLV.

Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs.

This Bruce Banner is more like his human namesake than their alter ego. He is a big cat but worry not, he won’t turn into a big green fighting machine and stays in his sweet, lovable cat form. Bruce is incredibly smart, with multiple PhDs, so you may catch him occasionally conducting an experiment or two to answer his latest query, like how small a shoebox can be and still fit a cat. But aside from that, Bruce is ready for a relaxing life, full of head scratches, cat toys and cuddling. He gets along with others and is currently hanging out with his buddy Steve Rogers aka Captain America! Who’s ready to give Bruce the relaxing life he deserves? He did save the world a couple of times, right?! Bruce is an absolute sweetheart (and a big doof) and is guaranteed win over the hearts of anyone in the household. He LOVES attention and loves to cuddle so he constantly chases you around for pets and climbs on top of you when you're laying down. He's a great lapcat and would fit into any household without a problem. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. He will have your back any time aliens or giant robots attack and he will do his best to destroy Hydra. Steve was surrendered with his fellow Avenger brothers because his owners could no longer afford him and they did not have access to cryo-freezing until better times come their way. Steve is a good guy and he's also quite handsome. His favorite colors are red, white & blue, and he loves big band music. His foster wrote to us: "Steve is a big softie-in body and spirit! He LOVES pets and cuddling and will chase you around with those big green eyes of his and try to get you to pet him. He's a sweetheart and a lap-cat. He can be a bit shy for the first few days, but once he comes around, he will shower you with love." __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Her owners moved without her, leaving her alone with no food and water in her house. The landlord found her and felt bad, so kept her, until the landlord's death. The landlord's mother then took Butterscotch in, but she recently was moved to assisted living and Butterscotch was brought to the vet's office to be euthanized. The vet asked them to surrender Butterscotch instead of euthanizing her, and she made the trip to DC. She is a beautiful cat and is always excited to socialize with people. Greeting guests at the door and playing with her toys are among her favorite activities! Butterscotch purrs constantly (when sitting on laps, eating food, or rubbing against your leg). Name: Cindy Suspected Breed(s): Mountain Cur Gender: Female Age: 3 years old Weight: 35 lbs Personality: Friendly, goofy, quiet, playful, gentle, affectionate, snuggler Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs. Gets along well with the resident dog in her foster home. Observations with Cats: Appeared to be good with Stubby the shelter cat. Observations with Kids: Excellent with children at her foster home House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Does well in crate. Has spent up to five hours in her crate during the day. Sleeps in her crate at night. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Spend a little time with Cindy and you’ll notice right away how sweet she is. She is always eager to say hello and wags her little tail with enthusiasm. Cindy is fantastic with kids. She likes to snuggle with the 10- year old and 7-year old at her foster home and bring them toys to play with. She is also a good listener. She listens when the kids correct her for things like putting her paws on a table. When Cindy is sleepy, she is all in. She acts like a sack of potatoes and becomes all floppy in her sleep. Food excites her but frequently trafficked roads scare her, so she would do best in a quieter neighborhood without a lot of traffic. Cindy is gaining confidence though and is just an all-around great pup for a family dog. Apply today to meet Cindy. *Cindy is sponsored by the McNairs. Name: Copeland Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd mix Gender: Male Age: 1 year old Weight: 55 lbs Personality: quick learner, playful, funny, protective, outgoing, affectionate, goofy, energetic, snuggler, eager to please, good running partner Observations with Dogs: Copeland is anxious when meeting dogs on walks, so he would do better in a quiet, less dense neighborhood. Observations with Cats: Tested well with cats Observations with Kids: Good with kids House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Quiet in his crate Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Copeland is a silly, fun, energetic and loving young dog. He pounces on toys like a champ and is generally a goofy and happy pup. He wants to bring all of his joy to his adopter! He promises to be a good boy if you'll give him lots of treats to help him put on some weight. Copeland has already learned "let's go", "sit", "go to mat", "trade", "go get it", and he is working on "come". He would make a terrific companion for anyone with a house and yard in which he can feel secure and fully express his playful nature. This goofy young boy loves socializing and playing, and he learns new games and commands very quickly. Copeland loves to go running, but he is also great inside. She is wonderfully affectionate and friendly to all she meets. Daisy will be the first to greet visitors to your house and make them feel welcome with leg rubs, head buts and even jumping on their laps. She is an excellent hostess. All she asks is that someone give her some attention and maybe pick her up for a snuggle. When her hosting duties are over, Daisy would love to cuddle up in bed with you and call it a night. She enjoys playing with toys, but usually only if her person is playing too. Her favorite is when you dangle a string so she can catch it! Daisy is brave and curious, making her easily adaptable to new situations. She likes to explore, so make sure she has plenty of space to call her own. This lovebug is ready for her furever home and to start showering her new human(s) with all the attention she loves to share. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application.
