For more information please email us at info@therecuetrain.org* -- Awesome Austin was only seven months old when Hurricane Harvey hit Texas. He boarded The Rescue Train in November, with 62 other survivors and airlifted to Los Angeles. He arrived emaciated with treatable medical conditions and post-traumatic stress. After several months of TLC in a foster home, he’s happy, healthy and homeward bound! Austin is a medium to high energy Labrador/Vizsla/Hound mix, 2-year-old (born 1/2017), weighing in at 55lbs. He’s got supermodel eyes the color of a sunset and the softest fur in town! He is an exuberant pup, yet has sweetness to his soul. He would do best in a mellow environment that still allows him to be active. Austin can be goofy when he plays and it’s hilarious to watch him. He loves to run and throw his toys in the yard and for that reason he would not be a good apartment dog. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body but because of his strength and enthusiasm, we do not want to place him in a home with small dogs or small children. If he were to live with another dog, it should be a calm dog his size. Our dog trainer thinks Austin has a wonderful temperament and is going to be fabulous dog if someone will continue to work with him. Whoever adopts Austin, needs to be committed to providing him with structure for the first couple of months so he can settle in. He would do best with an experienced large breed dog owner that has had intermediate to advanced dog training experience. We have crate trained him so that will help this process for an adopter. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. If you can open your heart and home to Austin, please fill out our application. He is ready to WAG HIS WAY INTO YOUR HEART! Meet Bobby Bobby is just perfect. I don't think I have ever taken him on a walk, without someone stopping me to tell me how beautiful he is. He is about 90 pounds, is all muscle, walks slow like a lion, and exudes an extreme calmness. Bobby is really good with small dogs. He has no alpha in him and submits to my two chihuahua terrors. He may not do as well in a home with a big alpha dog, just because he is so sensitive and will probably look to hide away from the other dog. He is not confrontational and if things get a little loud in the house, he will slither his way to the back bedroom and fall asleep. What I would like for Bobby is a home where he can be given lots of attention and walks. He would do best in a lower key home and maybe with someone who works from home or is retired. He is good, when I leave the house, but would really love to have someone around more, if possible. Bobby's favorite activities are walking, riding in cars, chewing on bully sticks, sleeping and eating. My nickname for him is "Baby Huey" which is so fitting. A few things to know: He is potty trained, walks excellent on a leash but can pull if he wants to say hi to other dogs, hardly barks, doesn't like skateboards at all, loves to sleep on the couch or chair, loves to ride shotgun in the car, is good with children and all people, is extra sensitive to noises so he can get startled occasionally, loves to chew on bones of any kind. To meet BUDDY please contact Suzanna: adoptions@startrescue.org BUDDY was found as a stray in Sun Valley, CA. After over an hour of chasing him around in the rain and traffic, he was finally contained and put up zero resistance in being leashed and assisted into the car. BUDDY is a neutered male with an estimated age of 8-9 years and he has a couple health issues: BUDDY is DEAF and has some arthritis in his hips. Most of his teeth - all biting teeth, top and bottom - are worn or filed down to the gum line, as are 3 of his incisor teeth. It makes his adorable smile that much more charming! On the bright side: He knows a couple of sign language commands, like sit and wait. He's wonderful on-leash, patient, NOT dog or food aggressive, uses the doggie door and only barks if he really needs your attention, although he always wants your attention :o) BUDDY sleeps and lives with a smile on his face and that smile is infectious. He can get anything he wants with it. His foster mom, has three other dogs, and basically, they are not accepting him into the pack. So, he spends too much of his time somewhat isolated to ensure his safely, but he’s a very social guy - pretty heartbreaking and he deserves so much better. To learn more about our entire process please visit www.therescuetrain.org and click on the "Adopt A Dog" page.* Meet 3 pound Tuti! She's an Olympic level snuggler looking for a forever home with a huge heart. This delicate dog has been diagnosed with encephalitis which is an inflammation of the brain that caused seizures and left her blind. She needs a little more patience and love than your typical dog, but she gives that love right back with her super sweet cuddles. To read more about her condition click here: Encephalitis In Dogs She's extremely quiet and she tends to spend most of her time in a small soft pen, where she's perfectly happy. If you feel like putting a Muffin's Halo (a bumper for blind dogs) on her now and then, she's happy to explore outside her pen, and when she's relaxed you can throw her into a Bjorn while you're doing errands around the house. We believe she's only a few years old, and her condition does require regular medication to ward off seizures, but it definitely seems to be improving ever-so-slightly over time. Adhering to a strict medication regimen and special diet seem to have helped Tuti beat the odds thus far. The cost of her medication & food is approximately $250 per month. The vet is still tweaking her meds and are trying to taper her off one of them so the cost may go down a little. We are looking for someone to be this girl’s angel and give her a home and the love and care she needs to live out the remainder of her life. We would have to have a crystal ball to know what her life expectancy is. Our vet does predict it will be cut short but we believe in miracles. Tuti has fought so hard and come so far, please consider giving this sweet girl the forever home she so deserves. If you have the love to share with such a wonderful little sweetheart, in her way she'll absolutely love you back. -- PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT OWN A FACILITY. Our animals are in private foster homes. For more information please email us at info@therecuetrain.org* To Know Katy Is To Love Her! This blonde bombshell is Katy, a 4-year-old Pomeranian/Spaniel mix. Katy is quick to jump on your lap and let you know she loves to be loved. This sensitive, young lady aims to please. The words "good girl" are music to hear ears. She's also a very smart learner. Some of her favorite activities include squirrel watching, playing fetch and being a doggie supermodel. Ideally, she would love a yard, although it doesn't have to be large. Katy likes to be the Queen of the castle. Since she is very people-oriented we feel she could easily be an “only dog” in the household with a person who’s not gone for long periods of time. She'll thrive with an experienced owner who wants to teach her tricks or take her to agility classes. Even though she gets along with all ages of people, she’d do best in a home with no young kids (under the age of 10) as she likes a calm environment. Katy is 24 lbs., housebroken, spayed, microchipped and up to date on all her vaccinations. This beautiful dog is the definition of loyal and can be your very special pet! To learn more about our entire process please visit www.therescuetrain.org and click on the "Adopt A Dog" page. For more information please email us at info@therecuetrain.org* Hi! I'm Roxi, the happiest, wiggliest, most affectionate 4 year-old Lab mix, who wants nothing more than a family to call my own. I got on The Rescue Train when my family had to move to a place that wouldn’t allow me. That was very hard and I miss them but I feel so much love here on The Rescue Train as I wait to meet my FURever home. I'm eager to meet you, because I know you'll find it hard not to fall in love with me. When I first boarded The Rescue Train, I was quite timid and insecure. But my foster dad, Aaron, took me to obedience classes so I could turn my frown upside down. I have now blossomed into a more confident, happy-go-lucky girl who LOVES belly rubs. While I still may get a little shy with new people and settings, I am quick to warm up and make everyone my new best friend. Look at some of the tricks I've learned in my obedience classes (see video). I was born with a funny little curve in my nose. It causes me zero health issues and The Rescue Train volunteers tell me that it makes me extra adorable (seriously, it's endearing!). I don't have a mean bone in my body, but due to my size (53 lbs.) and enthusiasm, I should be in a home without small children as I could knock them over to kiss them. I also need an owner who has large-breed experience because I’m pretty strong. Ideally, I'd love a secure yard where I can run around and you can play fetch with me (hint hint). If I were to have a doggy sibling, it should be a calm male that is similar in age and size. I have been patiently waiting for you, and I know you're out there! I'm the total package- loyal, endlessly loving and eager to please. Won't you consider making me your new best friend and family member? --- PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT OWN A FACILITY.
