Meet Buddy! This handsome fella is full of fun and energy! He loves to run and play, and fetch is his favorite game! Buddy actually had surgery back in October for a fractured leg; the area has healed, but he does still have some lameness with that leg and probably always will. It doesn't stop him from getting around AT ALL, though! Buddy spent time in foster while he recovered from his surgery, so we know a bit more about him than we sometimes do with the other shelter dogs. For starters, his foster mom says Buddy gets along with other dogs of all sizes. He loves to play and can keep up with the other dogs despite his leg. Buddy LOVES people and is super friendly and outgoing, but he is a young dog and can tend to be a bit "mouthy" at times. Because of this, we recommend older children only for Buddy's new home. And oh yeah- did I mention he has a hint of an underbite? This handsome dude was lookin' like Elvis for his pictures and got me ALLLL shook up! ;-) If your family sounds like a good fit for this amazing dog, come visit him at the MCAC West shelter, 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Bring your dog in for an intro! Buddy is approx 1 yr old. His adoption fee is $25 and includes neuter, rabies certificate, County license and prior vet care/surgery. Hours for the shelter at 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. show less

Say hello to CinnaBunny- the cinnamon colored Pittie with the bunny rabbit ears! I actually saw CinnaBunny the day she came in to the shelter and she was pretty scared. I thought surely with those amazing ears, she would get noticed quickly, but no go. 😕 So hopefully her cute pictures WILL help her get noticed! CinnaBunny is a super fun gal with the cutest play prances. She walks nicely on the leash AND knows "sit," "paw" and "down" already. WOW! CinnaBunny even knows these commands with just hand gestures- smartie pants! CinnaBunny enjoys pouncing on squeaky toys, getting pets, being told what a pretty girl she is, and going on walks. :-) CinnaBunny appears to be potty trained- she immediately goes potty when she gets out of her kennel, and her kennel is always very clean. CinnaBunny is a great combo of smart, playful and friendly, yet still totally able to do her own thing when you're busy. CinnaBunny may prefer to be the only pet in your life at this time. She can get a little bossy with other dogs at first. We think she would do best with another very tolerant, easy-going dog around her size, or as the only dog. Unknown on cats. If your dog at home sounds like they might be a fit, bring them in to say hello and we can help everyone safely meet. Visit 3 yr old CinnaBunny at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. CinnaBunny's $25 adoption fee includes spay, rabies certificate and County license. show less

HIDDEN GEM ALERT! I met some amazing dogs this week, but Esmeralda stands out. She is such a doll-baby! This beauty is getting overlooked because she has a medical need. But if you have it in your heart and budget to help a medical dog- you will NOT regret helping Esmeralda! <3 The vets have diagnosed Esmeralda with a torn ACL, so she has been on limited activity during her time at the shelter. In the time we spent together, Esmeralda did well with her injured leg overall, only holding it up here and there towards the end of our time together, about 30 mins. Esmeralda will need eval with a full service vet and possibly a specialist, to see what the next step is for her leg... Now that all that boring stuff is out of the way, let's talk about ESMERALDA! Because she is soooo much more than just an injured leg, you guys. Like, she is leopard print, feather boa, bada*s vintage hat more. GAH! I can't stop looking at her picture lol. Besides clearly being a super model, Esmeralda is a total sweetheart. She was super tolerant in the photo room, friendly (she gives kisses!) and outgoing with everyone we met. She walks well on the leash and already knows "sit" and "paw" for a treat. Although Esmeralda came in as a stray, I've no doubt she was someone's dog before coming to the shelter. We briefly introduced Esmeralda to a helper dog and she did great; she immediately wanted to play, but with her injury we kept them on leash. If you have a dog at home already, bring them in for an intro! You can visit 8 year old Esmeralda at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Esmeralda's $25 adoption fee includes spay, rabies certificate, county license and prior vet care. show less

Say hello to Fielding! It's probably pretty obvious from this picture, but I'll say it anyway- Fielding really likes to PLAY! :-D Fielding actually wasn't on my list of dogs to meet, but I took him out this week and last because his kennel hadn't been marked as being out in a whole week. This is no one's fault- we all try our best to get the dogs out as often as possible, but it's an uphill battle and some dogs get lost in the shuffle. Fielding is actually a really cool dude, so I knew I had to get some pics and promote him! Despite not having been out of his kennel in seven days, Fielding wasn't crazy hyper at all. He does have a nice spunky energy, but for a 1 year old dog stuck at a shelter, I've definitely seen crazier lol. We took a nice long walk, and by the end of the walk, Fielding was walking perfect on the leash with no tugging at all. Now Fielding LOVES his toys and is super toy motivated, so teaching him new tricks and training is going to be that much easier since you've already got his motivator! Fielding does know "sit" for his toy already, and would love to learn more! He does get somewhat mouthy/grabby with his toys when you are holding them, so I would recommend NO small children in his new family. Fielding is a friendly guy, but he's also cool just plopping down on a blanket by himself and chewing on his tennis ball. :-) Fielding did ok overall with his dog eval, but he would need to find a dog buddy that is okay with his style. According to his notes, he was quick and pushy with his greetings and had a very high energy with the other dogs, although he didn't escalate beyond that. If you have a dog at home already, a dog intro is required- bring them in and we can help everyone meet! You can visit 1 year old Fielding at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Fielding's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

This handsome Foxx has been at the shelter over a month guys- what am I missing here?! Foxx has kind of a sad story with his former adopter- they surrendered him because they felt he was "sick" (there's nothing wrong with him) and said they had kept him in the back yard for the month they had him, "because he liked being out there better". Now who knows, but I do know that during the time I spent with Foxx, he seemed to like being inside just fine. In fact, as soon as we were done with our photo shoot, he plopped right down next to me and just chilled out, waiting to see what we would do next. Foxx was a surprisingly mellow guy during our time together! I say surprising, because IN his kennel, Foxx is a talker lol. He makes the craziest sounds when someone he knows (or wants to know!) walks by. I'm thinking this may be turning potential adopters off, because admittedly, it's not the cutest sound in the world lmao. Foxx is looking for a family that will love him AND his funny quirks! ;-) Foxx is a smart guy and already has basic leash manners, and knows "sit" for a treat. He would love to learn more in his forever home- Shepherds are smart cookies that love to keep their minds active! Foxx is a friendly guy, but not pushy for attention. He enjoys pets, but isn't all up in your face for them. Once he realizes you're a friend, he flops over for belly rub time! And as if all that wasn't amazing enough, you have GOT to come see Foxx's adorable little tongue sticking out when he's relaxed. AND AND (we're like in triple bonus time now, guys!!) Foxx met an infant and a young school aged kid last week during a meet and greet, that he did very good with! Bring the whole family in, dog included, to meet 3 yr old Foxx at the MCAC West shelter in Phx (2500 S. 27th Ave). Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Foxx's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

Oh Geronimo! This guy is absolutely hysterical. He has so much personality and playfulness in him! Something about the flash in the photo room gets Geronimo all silly. Typically the flash either makes dogs nervous, or they don’t even notice it- I’ve never had a dog try to PLAY with the flash lol! I think Geronimo would be hysterical with one of those laser pointers! Geronimo also likes to pounce on the squeaky toys, and sidle up to you for pets and love. Despite his playfulness, Geronimo isn’t a hyper dude; he has a great moderate energy level! Geronimo has been through a lot during his two months at the shelter. He had a pretty decent respiratory infection that required two rounds of antibiotics, AND he had surgery on his eyes for entropion. The respiratory issues are all resolved, Geronimo's eyes look great... and he is FEELING great! In addition to toy time and cuddle time, Geronimo loves walks (he walks pretty good overall on the leash with some tugging) and showing off "sit" and "paw" for a trick. Fair warning: Geronimo is so cute, you'll probably give him the treat before he shows off his tricks. ;-) Geronimo did ok with his dog eval. He mostly kept to himself, but was "stiff" when interacting with the other dogs. Keep in mind that this eval was done prior to his eye surgery, so it's possible being uncomfortable and not fully able to see, contributed to some of that "stiffness" with the other dogs. If you have a dog at home, bring them in and we can help make sure everyone gets along. You can visit 4 yr old Geronimo at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-6 Sat & Sun. Geronimo's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, eye surgery, prior vet care/meds, rabies certificate and County license. show less

Another Puppy Senior alert! :-D Holstein is listed at 7 yrs old, but that's the prime of life for this guy! Holstein LOVES his toys and is happy to get a good game of fetch or tug of rope going with each new person he meets. He has the cutest habit of dropping the toy in front of you, then play bowing/waiting until you throw it (see picture in comment section below). Holstein has a fun energy, but he's not TOO crazy like some of the younger dogs. He's still down with a little cuddle time too! Holstein also knows "sit" for his toy (he seemed to be waaaay more toy than food motivated). Even though Holstein came in as a stray, it's obvious he was someone's dog at some point; who knows what other tricks and training he has under his belt! Would you believe this awesome guy has been at the shelter THREE long months?! Holstein did well overall during his dog eval. He was nervous at first, but warmed up over time and became social and playful with the other dogs. If you have a dog at home already, please bring them in for an intro and we can help make sure everyone gets along prior to adopting. You can visit 7 yr old Holstein at the MCAC East shelter at 2630 W. Rio Salado Pkwy., Mesa. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Syn. Say hello to lovely Lilly! Seven year old Lilly has so much to offer a new family. Just look at that face- how can you help yourself from smiling?! Lilly promises to make you smile every day if you adopt her. She is a friendly gal with the perfect amount of energy. She isn't crazy hyper by any means, but she still enjoys walks and a little activity. Lilly walks well on the leash and does the cutest little prance/hop when she's excited. And guys, guess what? Lilly knows another language! She knows "sit" in Spanish ("sientate")! That said, she doesn't seem to know the command in English. Not to worry though if you don't know Spanish. All you really need to communicate with Lilly, is LOVE. :-) Lilly was surrendered to the shelter when she injured a small dog. The notes don't specify if this was a small dog she lived with, or a random small dog. Either way, we recommend no small dogs for Lilly in her new home. Her former family said she did well with farm animals (chickens), children ages 1-17, ok with dogs her size and didn't bother the cats in the home. They said she is not destructive in the house, and likes walks and squeaky/chew toys. Lilly is used to family life, and the shelter has been hard on her. She is always sitting on the outside portion of her kennel hoping to catch someone's eye when they walk by. She seemed a bit anxious during our time together, and I've no doubt she is confused and sad to suddenly find herself in a kennel for over two months when she had a home. :-( Lilly deserves another home, and a forever home this time around! Lilly did well overall with her dog eval- she was tolerant and mostly kept to herself in the yard. If you have a dog at home already, bring them in and we can help everyone meet. You can visit 7 year old Lilly at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Yaaaas Queen! Nefertiti is one fabulous lady! You know when you meet someone new and you're like, "Oh yeah. I'm gonna like this person!" Well that's how you feel when you meet Nefertiti! This big, beautiful gal is so fun and friendly. Nefertiti is an easy-going lady and up for whatever- including some dress up and a photo shoot! You bring the treats, she'll bring the poses! Speaking of treats, Nefertiti has got "doggy patio dinner date" written all over her! This curvy lady is all about living life to it's carb-tastic fullest! And if you want to work off a little of those carbs afterwards, Nefertiti is up for that too! She's suuuuper easy to walk on the leash, and promises not to drag your carb-coma'd self down the street lol. ;-) After dinner and a walk, it's chill time! Nefertiti is happy to just hang out near you with her squeaky toys (she likes to carry them in her mouth), while you watch a movie, or sip (more) wine, or do whatever! Like I said- she's an easygoing gal! Nefertiti did well overall during her dog eval. She mostly just ignored the other dogs. If you have a dog at home who needs some companionship, but doesn't appreciate another dog all up in their grill, bring them in to meet Nefertiti! You can visit 4 year old Queen Nefertiti at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun.
