Meet Chevy!  Chevy is a sweet little guy who had been living on the street all alone until a Scout's Honor volunteer was able to help him. Chevy had been living under a truck for a while (it was a Chevy) while a Scout's Honor volunteer was working to gain his trust. He kept going every day to feed him and give him some attention. The business near where he was let him come onto their property and provided him some shelter.  Unfortunately, because there was a busy street nearby, sweet little Chevy got bumped by a few cars when he was out and about and lost a few teeth as a result.  Luckily, he did not sustain any significant injuries, and just needed to eat and get a bath.  Chevy is an awesome dog , loves other dogs and loves to play !  Chevy is a high energy dog, but is also very smart and alert. He needs A LOT of exercise and positive reinforcement, but will pick up very quickly on what you are teaching him. He would be a great dog for agility or flyball!!  As long as you keep him busy and challenged he will impress you with how well he can learn things. He just wants someone who will give him the direction, attention and structure he wants/needs. He would make a great dog for an active home with NO kiddos.  Kiddos are just too unpredictable for this guy.  He also needs a home that understands how to properly introduce him to new people and watch his cues.  Chevy can be very protective of his people and area, so proper intros are a must. True to his Kelpie breed, Chevy likes to herd and run and play .  Check out this VIDEO of him just having a grand time running - look at those turns!   Kelpie's are unique problem solvers and will find a way to do whatever he deems necessary.   Chevy fits these traits to a T, and anyone who knows and loves the herding breeds would just adore little Chevy!!  He's a real catch!! Chevy is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped.   Please contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you are interested in fostering or adopting this precious guy!  You can read all about our foster and adoption process, as well as make a donation for his care, on our website at www.scoutshonor.org.    show less

Meet Clyde! You may remember Clyde’s sad story of cruelty and neglect.  We were shocked when we saw his pictures and heard how he had literally been strangled with a belt by his so called owner.  His strangulation caused a massive deep cut all around his neck and caused the blood not be able to circulate resulting in his face ballooning until he was unrecognizable.  He was confiscated from his owner and charges are pending.  In the meantime, we brought him into our rescue and have nursed him back to health. We could tell he didn’t know what it was like to be treated kindly, but after talking to him a bit and giving him love, he started wagging his tail. He is BEYOND sweet!!  Check him out HERE playing with his friends at daycare! We are happy to report that with the help of the vets, we provided pictures and info on the extent of his injuries to the Harris County DA's office. His former owner was prosecuted and justice was done! Clyde is about 4-5 years old and a Cattle Dog mix of sorts.  He’s friendly and fun-loving but cautious with new people until he knows you mean him no harm.  He does great with most other dogs that are medium to large in size.  He is high-energy, so he would do best in an active home and with another active dog that can play, and play, and play with him!  He’s not especially fond of cats, so a home without cats is a must. Clyde is just the sweetest, although he does get his feelings hurts easily when corrected, so he is a quick learner and pleaser.  Makes training a piece of cake! Clyde is doing fabulous in his foster home with his 2 canine siblings, but he would really love to find a forever home where he never has to worry again!  Contact us at  info@scoutshonor.org if you can help! No surprise here in Houston and considering the condition he was in, Clyde is heartworm positive, but don’t worry. Scout’s Honor is taking care of that for him and if you want to adopt Clyde before he's all clear (which would be great!) we will continue to cover the expense of his medicine and next heartworm check. We can explain it all but he's going to be just fine.     Check out Clyde playing with his friends at daycare HERE     show less

Dexter, approximately 8 years old, came into a rescue (which no longer exists) as a severe cruelty case over six years ago. We don’t know the full story, only the horrific scars, and disfigured jaw prove he was brutally beaten and/or attacked. He was recently dumped, with another dog, at a Missouri shelter after living with a family the past several years. Because the other dog had a Scout’s Honor chip, the shelter called and we went into action to get them both back to Houston. Dexter is a goofy boy with a crooked, beautiful face. Although he loves to play, he has moments of deep contemplation and will sit and look at the trees or gaze into the eyes of his foster parents with full gratitude. He takes a few minutes to warm up to new people and will trust those who give him time and space. He’s a typical working dog – thriving on a structured routine, 2 walks a day, obedience training, and lots of napping in between. After slow introductions, Dexter does well with other dogs. He listens well to voice commands and is completely house trained, never having an accident. Cats are not recommended as Dexter has high prey drive. Meet Gable! Have you ever seen such a handsome dog?! Look at those gorgeous eyes! He likes to think he was named after Clark Gable, because he is so handsome. Good looks and all around awesome - what more could you want in man’s best friend? He is a laid back dude who loves sitting next to you. One of his most favorite things to do is to cuddle up with anyone who will give him the time. He gets along great with medium to large dogs, He just doesn't understand what the little ones are. Gable likes to play, but since he is an older gentleman he doesn't need a lot of exercise, and does not get rambunctious.  He has great house manners and is house and crate trained. Not only is he well-behaved, but he is a smart boy and easily picks up on new things and is very trainable. Gable came to us after having to fend for himself all alone on the streets of Houston. He would follow people around and give them the sad puppy dog eyes hoping to get something. Several people in the neighborhood had been feeding him, and although he was super friendly,  no one could get a leash on him. (we told you he was smart). We knew we had to help and went out determined to get a leash on him so we could help. He was very scared on the leash at first and wouldn't walk with it at first. Unfortunately, he had learned that it was hard to trust anybody when you are just trying to survive. However, after a few treats and some positive attention, he figured out that the leash was not so bad. Now he walks great on a leash and loves walks. He also loves car rides, and rides perfectly in the car.  Gable is a 7-8 year old, male Bull Terrier/Great Dane/American Bulldog mix. We know this sounds like a strange mix, but we have his DNA test to prove it! This sweet boy has waited too long to find a home to call his own. He's been in boarding for literally years now.  He would be so unbelievably happy to be part of a forever family!  He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and ready to come home with you. Even if you are not ready to adopt him, he would make a very easy foster dog. PLEASE HELP!! show less

Meet Harper. This poor girl was recently rescued from deplorable conditions along with two other dogs. Harper and the others were chained up in a yard and severely neglected. Recently their owner died and they were just left without any food, water or anything else. BARC was called and picked up all three. Once at the shelter, it was likely that they would never make it to the adoption wing since they were in just too poor of shape. One of the three was pulled by another rescue, but Harper and the other dog (Hudson) were left. Once we saw how bad they looked we knew we had to help.    We went and got them and had them evaluated by our vet. Of course they had worms and parasites. Their skin was in bad shape too, especially Harper, who has virtually no hair and was scratching herself until she bled. Upon examination, we also noticed that she has almost no teeth. They have likely been worn down due to chewing on rocks and the chain. Despite all she's been through,  Harper is very sweet. She is very weak right now due to her poor condition, but is very loving and is slowly coming out of her shell. Harper is a Pointer mix and only weighs about 35 to 40 pounds.    All this sweet girl needs is a little time and a lot of love and she will be perfect. Please consider giving this darling girl a forever home! show less
