Meet Aaron! It's no secret we are all Midwestern-rooted Packer fans around FFF so how do we pass on a a perfect 13 year old senior pittie named Aaron with a deep chocolate football-shaped noggin' laced with a white stripe down his forehead?! Well... we don't! Aaron was all too happy to leave his kennel at San Diego Humane Society and start romping with another dog in the yard to pass his dog test with flying colors! Aaron is the sweetest gentleman who likes chewing quietly on his Nylabones and wrestling with doggies. He is full of kisses for any human cheeks nearby and makes all the ladies swoon. You might think you're at Lambeau Field when you hear the cheers of "Woo, Aaron!" onsite at FFF.   Aaron went on a 2-week Frosted Fling and we got lots of good information about how he might behave in a home! Aaron is very mellow and sleeps like a champ, but he does enjoy jaunts around the neighborhood and could last up to an hour on walks. He did great with the family's dogs, both big and small and was polite to all dogs he met on walks. The family shared, "Aaron is the kissiest dog I've ever met. He kisses EVERYONE on the face. It is his most endearing quality. He is not clingy at all, keeps to himself, but when you come to him, you're getting a kiss! Aaron is a beautiful and sweet boy who is LOVED by everyone at FFF. It's no exaggeration to say that he is an all-time all-star there. I fell head over heels in love with him and I know anyone who meets him will too." Aaron celebrated his first Frostiversary in December here. It's a bittersweet one because it is a reminder that it has been one year that his future family has been out there looking for him and doesn't know he's RIGHT HERE! To celebrate, he invited some of his best doggie friends to a brewery to watch the Packer game, of course. Happy birthday to Aaron, they got a big fat win!    This year, he'd like to celebrate his birthday with his forever family. Aaron lives onsite at Frosted Faces Foundation. Meet Adele! Adele was brought into Moreno Valley Shelter as a stray on May 15th. No one claimed her, and she was really was not doing well from having a serious skin issue to being growly when handled. FFF Volunteers brought Adele to safety on May 26th. We used the words "mentally inappropriate" originally to describe her. What we witnessed was that when we kenneled her at night, she would head press and keep walking into the wall of her kennel, dumping her attached  water bowl and flipping her food making a big unconscious mess. Then being handled she flailed in a circular motion and her growling seemed more from confusion than pain or fear aggression. We kept her inside instead of in the play yards while we cleaned since she seemed to have trouble finding shade, and it was then that we saw a little light behind her eyes. She started following us around from kennel to kennel as we wiped them down and folded blankets! We took Adele to  College Animal Hospital  to be assessed. On exam, Adele had crackles in the right middle lung field and severe skin disease. The x-rays showed an enlarged heart with evidence of mild pulmonary edema and the abdomen has an enlarged liver with decreased detail in the mid-abdomen probably from lack of fat in the abdomen. Blood work showed elevated liver enzymes so it seems Adele has a hepatopathy. It may be hepatic lipidosis from not eating or may be another process. She has a lot going on! We have her on antibiotics for the secondary bacterial infection in her skin but the vet is concerned there may be an autoimmune skin disease and in combination with the liver values so high they are not sure about immunosuppresants at this time. We would like to do a skin biopsy as her bacterial infection clears. Dr. Hoard recommended an ultrasound with the radiologist for the heart and the abdomen in order to properly treat her. We are big believers in giving a dog time to adjust so we can assess their conditions in a consistent environment once they have decompressed. Even better is in a foster home with one on one attention! Adele is now on a Frosted Fling with one of our volunteers. We look forward to hearing how she does in a home environment. Please check back soon for an update on Adele! Here's your Boy! Boy is 10 years old and was rescued from Wishing Well Ranch in February 2020. Their records show that he lived there since 2010. Boy's resilience is incredible! He cocks his head when he ears high pitched voices or his name called. Boy gets along with all of the other dogs and cats great. He's been on the Frosted Fakers hikes and leads the charge! Boy makes a polite dinner date and gives gentle kisses as he wraps his long sloth arms around you. If you ever had a bad day, this guy would remind you to keep your chin up. Boy has been on a few Frosted Flings at this point and his fling families all say he's a wonderfully sweet boy who is going to make a family very happy! On his last fling, Boy figured out how to maneuver stairs and could easily use them to follow his fling family around. He loves food and will always be first in line for dinner time! His fling family is sad to see him go but they can't wait to see him find his own furever family... could that be you??  Boy lives onsite at Frosted Faces Foundation. Have you met Brawny? 12-year old Brawny's entire world was turned upside down when his owner ended up in hospice care in November 2019 and he found himself at the South LA Shelter. For a large senior, Brawny is pretty darn healthy! He could stand to lose a few pounds, but is doing well on a diet and a few extra short walks per day. Brawny is super social with other dogs and is easy to integrate into play groups. Brawny is extremely mellow and enjoys napping, sunbathing, and people watching. He can go for short strolls throughout the neighborhood. Brawny is quiet in the home and good with people of all sizes. When he needs to go potty, Brawny is sure to alert to go out and has never had an accident in the house. If you couldn't tell by his stature, Brawny LOVES food. If you ever want to see this guy move, just crinkle the treat bag and watch him fly. Brawny enjoys belly rubs, sunbathing, and naps, but if you could rub his belly while he naps in the sun, that would be ideal. Brawny lives in a foster home. Please submit an application to schedule an appointment to meet him.   Visit us at Open House: Saturdays & Sundays, 10 am - 1 pm CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO COVID-19 Learn more about our programs at www.frostedfacesfoundation.org/family. Meet Cadet! We rescued 9 year old Cadet from Bonita Shelter. He was there as a stray in 2015 and again this month. Although he is technically a senior, he reminds us of a puppy with his happy, bouncy personality. Cadet loves everyone, and the feeling is mutual! He weighs 41 lbs.  Cadet is living with a foster family with two young children. We received a positive update from his foster mom, including good news about how Cadet's skin is responding to a high quality diet and medication: " We are having so much fun enjoying his company! Cadet loves the park and is great around other dogs, but he prefers to sit next to humans at the dog park and entice them to pet him. His  skin is looking so much better, and his hair is growing back on his chest. Cadet  is definitely food motivated and is VERY attentive whenever we have a meal, but we’ve been keeping the human food away from him. He has been such an angel and the biggest cuddle bug. He’s such a special pup!" Apply to meet Cadet: www.frostedfacesfoundation.org/apply    Visit us at Open House: Saturdays and Sundays, 10 am - 1 pm. This is Carmen! We rescued 11 year old Carmen from the San Diego Humane Society. She weighs 50 lbs. Carmen is a super fun girl! She loves to play and has the energy of a dog half her age. When volunteers are out scooping and cleaning the yards, Carmen will follow closely behind all over the yard with a rope or ball in her mouth as if saying, "Hey human, play with me!" Carmen is a rockstar in playgroups. With all of the comings and goings, we can easily add her in with new dogs and Carmen greets them as though they've been friends forever. She knows 'sit' and 'drop it' but is more than willing to learn a few more tricks if you've got the treats! Carmen is on a two week Frosted Fling. We received an awesome update from her fling family: " We’ve had Carmen for a week now and she’s an absolute sweetie!  Always very energetic, loves going on walks, and LOVES her food. She has mastered her puppy eyes when she sees anyone eating.  She LOVES playing and will bring you her favorite toy so she can play fetch.  We’ve been teaching Carmen lots of new tricks like  down, stay, wait, and “look at me”. She’s mastered them all!  She does bark when she’s scared or sees other smaller dogs but we keep her distracted with yummy treats.  Carmen is such a sweet girl and will follow her human anywhere. She loves snuggling in bed with us and is a total love bug." Fun, smart, well-mannered, and loving? Carmen has it all!                                                     Apply to meet her:  www.frostedfacesfoundation.org/apply Visit us at Open House: Saturdays & Sundays, 10 am - 1 pm CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO COVID-19 Learn more about our programs at www.frostedfacesfoundation.org/family  No adoption fees and we help with medical costs. Meet Cisco! Cisco is 8 years old came all the way from Tijuana to become a Frosted Face. He weigh 30 lbs. Cisco has become the happiest guy, you can tell when he's in his kennel because you can hear his tail thumping from all the way down the hall! Looking for a laid back, low maintenance buddy to take strolls around the neighborhood with and then cuddle on the couch when you get home? Sweet Cisco is the guy for you! Cisco got to go on a Fling and we received this update from his Fling Fam: "Cisco is a shy boy but we are working on building his confidence! He’s confident enough to ask for more pets by pawing at your hand and showing off his big smile on walks. He’s also become a couch dog and will climb up to snuggle with you. You’ll know he’s happy to see you when you hear his tail thumping from anywhere in the house. He’s very gentle and sweet and spends most of his days lounging near the window to get some Vitamin D! He doesn’t really have interest in toys, but he loves treats! So we like to throw treats around the living room to get his feet moving and also give him bones to keep him entertained. He’s the happiest when we go on long strolls around the neighborhood. He’s definitely potty trained and has never had an accident in the house." Cisco is now living in a foster home. Meet Coconut! Coconut is an estimated 11 years old and was found in the streets of Tijuana by Good Samaritans. They identified that he had an injury to his leg and reached out to rescuers across the border for help.  On May 8th, Coconut became a Frosted Face and got the veterinary care he deserved. San Diego Bay Animal Hospital examined Coconut and noticed that his femur was broken.  After much consideration for what was best for him, we decided to amputate Coconut's back left leg, and he had surgery on Friday May 15th. He returned a much happier, comfortable guy, and he instantly was able to navigate as a tripod. It must be so nice to feel pain free! Coconut got groomed gently prior to surgery by our friends at The Buried Bone. We knew he wouldn't be able to be groomed for awhile after surgery, and check out how handsome he is! Coconut is friendly with dogs and people. He is a little uncertain of his surroundings right now and mostly keeps to himself observing the other little pups in the yard. He always has a sad face, so we are looking for a family to help turn his frown upside down!   Apply to meet Coconut at  www.frostedfacesfoundation.org/apply/   Visit us at Open House: Saturdays & Sundays, 10 am – 1 pm CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO COVID-19 Learn more about our programs at  www.frostedfacesfoundation.org/family .
