About Rex

!!! AVAILABLE for Adoption from Foster Care !!! REX A43851763Personality: Here's a medium dog that would love to just cuddle up with you for a movie marathon! Rex loves taking walks around the neighborhood- even five year olds have to keep their body in shape! He's shy at first, but it only takes a tiny bit of effort, a good home, and a few treats, for him to show how loving he can be!Intake Type: StrayWeight: 52 lbsMedical Observations:(2/21) Patient appears healthy, asides from being underweight and having a low grade heart murmur. Heart murmur does not preclude surgery at the shelter, however recommend adoption with medical waiver indicating heart murmur presence. Behavior Observations:(3/6) Volunteer Note -- Leash biting onsite. He doesn't go up the leash but does do that hard tug as he flips his head back and forth. Once we got moving, he dropped the leash and began walking. For the remainder of our walk he would periodically grab the leash and begin to leash bite, before dropping it voluntarily and continuing to walk. He did this several times, the episodes only lasted 10-15 seconds. So he's not a consistent leash biter but when he is doing it, he tugs hard and puts his weight into it. Returning to kennel he became a bit reactive to passing dogs as we walked through the kennels. No issues returning to kennel.(2/28) Short Term foster -- Rex is a very sweet and gentle dog. He was shy at first, but showed improvement each day by coming out of his shell when he was with me.(2/21) Lifesaving -- Slight hesitation but overall easy to loop. Distracted going back in but no real issues. Pulls on leash and would do best harnessed, but manageable if not. Aroused but allows all over handling. Will come to handler for more pets when stopped. Engages in tag/chase games followed by LOTS of zoomies! Will jump on handler gently. No interest in toys at this time. Suggested Running Team. Evaluated Gold.(2/21) Per Vet Staff -- Friendly(2/18) Per Finder -- Friendly, well mannered, sweetThis animal is currently available from foster care through ACCT Philly's Adoptions Programs. Solicits attention from the handler with a soft body, open mouth, tail neutral. Allows handling all over. Spent time in the office and he was soft and social, eventually settling at my feet and napping.(4/26) Per Lifesaving -- dog came into office. While I was at my computer working dog approach me with loose body language and wagging tail. Dog sniffed and licked my hand and then gently jumped up and licked my face. Allowed me to pet him with loose body language. Dog was calm in the office and sat at staff members feet quietly. (4/23) Social and at front of kennel when approached. Easily leashed and lead out of kennel. Appears curious at other dogs in kennel, but able to be kept moving along without any issue. Outside, dog displayed nervous behavior with heavy panting, dilated pupils, constantly surveying environment and avoidant of handling. Allowed some light petting, however. Suspicious for soft tissue injury. Patient displayed concerning behavior during examination including growling after repeated attempts to mount nurse. Concerned for behavioral decline in shelter. (3/9) Initial Exam - Unable to check mouth due to behaviorBehavior Observation: (4/19) Easy to leash, approached front of kennel with soft body. Moderate pulling on leash. Once outside he became frustrated that he could not go into the front parking lot and began mounting my leg. I used the fence as a tie out and was able to make some distance where he could not mount. He continued to attempt to mount for about 3 minutes until he was distracted by a smell and I was able to redirect his attention and we could start walking again. No issues returning to the building or kennel.(4/16) Initially baring teeth when kennel is approached, followed by a snap. Treat offered and snapped again, but then realizing it was a treat, stopped, and ate quickly off ground. Low growled while visiting dog in kennel nextdoor, handler turned and offered another treat. Dog's body language significantly loosened and interaction was ended. Came back to kennel some time later, and dog stood at front of kennel, slightly stiff. Was able to offer treat, then open kennel door and loop with no issue. Pulls moderately on leash while outside. Appeared nervous with excessive activity on campus and other dogs in area, so took dog to covered run. Dog stayed by gate door and scratched. Would come when called but then immediately go back to gate door. Walked nicely with minimal pulling back inside the building, and went into Evaluation Room. Sought attention from handler and allowed slow petting. Played with a stuffed toy but quickly lost interest. Easily brought back to kennel and allowed lead to be removed without issue.(4/15) Artica approaches front of kennel with a soft body and sits, easy to leash, pulls moderate on leash. Once in the play yard he paws at the gate to exit with ears back, lip licking. Outside the yard he allows handling and will solicit attention from handler with ears back, tail down, mouth closed. Easily goes back into kennel.(4/13)Per previous owner - active, sensitive, nervous, aggressive to strangers, hyperactive, great with cats, comes when calls, aggressive around toys, jumps on people, destructive-scratches/digs, snaps at people, aggressive around toys, affectionate great dog just randomly decides to "switch up and attack."(3/13) Per Vet Staff -- Very friendly initially. Growled when examining his shoulder. After repeated attempts to mount nurse, patient began growling while attempting to mount and examination was discontinued This animal is currently available from foster care through ACCT Philly's Adoptions Programs. They said that a man was trying to pull this dog off of the smaller dog who was being attacked, and the man was bitten on the tip of his thumb (not a severe bite - sounds like level 3). Betty A44247172Intake Type: (5/3) Seized Stray Dog Meet:Betty and Phony -- https://youtu.be/UPtwXgsCk20Betty and Phony 2 -- https://youtu.be/45xgry9udxsBetty is such a sweet, affectionate dog who looooves humans. She is so trusting, she snuggled up to us the moment she met us. She will gladly take treats from your hand, but is more motivated by attention. She didn't seem to care about toys. She will put her head right in your lap for pets, and you could pet her for hours and she wouldn't move because she's so happy. After you've given her some pets she easily calms down and is content laying on the floor by the couch. We left her alone a couple times for about an hour and monitored her with a camera, and she laid down the whole time, showing no signs of separation anxiety. She loves walks! And she's great at them, she doesn't pull too hard or sniff around too much. She had no accidents in the house, she didn't try to jump on the couch at all, and she's not a big barker (she didn't bark once inside our house, despite hearing other dogs barking and knocks on the door). She does tend to get on her hind legs and lean on you to greet you, but she's not very jumpy. She's such a sweetie and would make a perfect companion for someone who's willing to give her plenty of walks and snuggles! Medical Observation: (5/5) Vet Check -- Mild skin issues consistent with FAD, otherwise apparently healthy on PE. Behaviorally of note and should be monitored, recommend evaluation with canine enrichment coordinator.Behavior Observation: (5/7) Per Foster -- the foster parents took Betty and their resident small dog out to a neutral area to meet. The fosters had the dogs on leashes and it seemed okay at first, but then their leashes got tangled together, causing both dogs to get very nervous, and begin fighting. The smaller dog did show teeth first, however, so the foster parents do believe Betty would have behaved fine. The fosters say Betty was amazing otherwise, and was incredibly sweet with all of the people she interacted with in her time with them.(5/5) Per Staff -- Barking at the front of the kennel when approached. Avoidant of the leash and continued to bark at assessor. Would take treats and I eventually was able to slip the leash over her head. Walks well on leash with minimal pulling. Urinates outside. Approaches handler with a soft, loose body and solicits attention. Not interested in toys and seeks attention from handler. Social with dogs and plays appropriately. Easy to return to kennel.(5/5) Per Vet Staff -- vet nurse reports some difficulty removing from kennel and did try to bite, once out walks well on leash with no interest in handler. in exam room is nervous, lip licking and fixating on exit. muzzled for exam and flinches when touched, need to go slow. show less

We went for a walk in a nice quiet area and then back to my house, where of course he laid on his comfy bed, enjoyed a bully stick and napped. He's been getting in my car pretty much on his own (sometimes with the help of a treat) and seems much more comfortable with doing that. Today I gently assisted his back end to help him get in and I think he appreciated the assistance. The first day I tried to get him in my car (which was also the first time meeting him) I had to get staff to help me get him in because he was refusing to so we've made a lot of progress there! I think it was simply just a matter of him feeling more comfortable and getting to know me. Before leaving my house to head back to the shelter, we went out in the backyard. My neighbor's dog was outback and started barking (I live in a row home where the yards are up against each other but I have a 6-foot privacy fence). Ben went down to the bottom of the little hill that I have and was barking and trying to dig by the fence. I have some bigger rocks there (since my own dog likes to dig in the same spot) but have to get more in order to completely close off that area. It wasn't a big deal but just wanted to note the behavior. I didn't want to chance him being able to get his head under the fence so I just asked my neighbor if he could put his dog in the house until I got Ben in the house. Then eventually, he walked back up the hill and followed me into the house. I also just want to note that he is very good on car rides! He just lays down or sits up enjoying the view and enjoys the ride. He doesn't react to animals walking on the sidewalk or anything else. :)The first day I took him to my house he lifted his leg and marked three times which I pretty much expected, especially since I have male dogs! But I do want to note that he only did that the first time he came to my house. The last two times I've had him here, he hasn't had any accidents and hasn't marked again. :)(4/29) & (4/30) Day Trip Notes -- he has been so sweet and so calm the last 2 days. He takes treats like such a gentleman and is picky with what he will eat. I can tell he is a dog you need to take it slow with and sense he's a little nervous so I give his space but when we sit outback, he comes over and will sit or lay right near me or at my feet and will solicit pets. I've gotten lots of tail wags and he's also very attentive. He listens really good whenever I try getting his attention to come outback. He gets up off his bed and hobbles his way over to the door. I feel really bad because you can tell his legs are uncomfortable, especially after he's been laying down for an extended period of time. It takes him a little bit to get up to a standing position. :( But for the past 2 days, i sit at my dining room table and work and he lays on the bed (right next to where I sit) that I have out for him the entire time, just sleeping or resting. We just went out in the yard a little bit ago and he peed and sniffed around a little and then he walked back to the door. I let him back in the house while I stayed out back for a few minutes. He walked right over to his bed and laid back down. When I came in, he just looked up at me with a wagging tail. I give him treats here and there (I'm getting to know what he prefers, Haha!) and he is always so gentle in taking them. I'm just letting him get to know me while he gets to rest in the peace and quiet and he has been enjoying every minute of it. I'm guessing if he were in a home full time and got a proper workup and treatment for whatever is going on with his legs, he may have a little more energy or motivation but from what I see, he is the most low maintenance dog and only asks for a quiet place to rest his head, companionship and some good treats. (4/15) Easily leashed, walks with mild pulling, in the yard he sniffed the perimeter with a loose body. He approached the handler and solicits interaction with a soft body and open mouth. He is not interested in toys. Takes treats with a soft mouth, knows sit and stay.(3/8) Per adoptive owner - protective, quiet, fights with other dogs, walks well on leash, aggressive - bites, snaps at animals, no interactions with young kids, used to be fine around the 16-year-old kid who worked with the owner. Then the other day he bit the kid on the arm. Only shown aggression to people one time. However he does not like it if people lean over top of him - he feels threatened. He is mostly dog aggressive but bit with no warning recently. Very smart dog, trains easily.(12/8) Vet Staff - Patient had to be muzzled by kennel attendant and low growling throughout time on exam room when started assessment even if not performing anything hands on.* * * * *Bite Details* * * * *Have you noticed any unusual behavior prior to bite: no, dog was playing with the victimWhat were the events leading up to this bite incident: 16 year old was playing with the dog at the owner's shop. They were done playing, and 16 year old walked away. Big Ben came up to him as he wanted to keep playing. He leaned over top of Big Ben, and the dog suddenly bit onto his left arm, clamped down and did not let go. Did you think the animal might bite before the incident happened: no, he's never bit someone before and was really good with him before, so they didn't think he would biteDescribe another time this animal bitten or scratched: he previously bit another dog, as he is very dog aggressive, but he has never bitten a person other than this recent incident. Two past times, he reacted aggressively when people leaned over the dog's hea show less

I'm an 8 year old pittie mix with a bottomless supply of kisses and cuddles to share with anyone willing to love me back. I am a very good girl with a LOT of energy. I love to run and play, but I also love to curl up next to my human for naps. My foster mom says I have the cutest snores ever. My favorite activities are playing tug with rope toys (not to brag, but I'm a tug champion), running, looking at my beautiful reflection, and napping. Not to brag, but I know sit, wait, down, paw, and off, and I'm crate trained. A lot of thing outside make me anxious (other dogs, bicycles, kids, kids on bicycles.... the world is a scary place!) so my leash manners aren't the best yet. I'm currently in finishing school with my foster mom and her vet school friends though, and we are working on leash training and recall so that I can be a proper lady in my fur-ever home! I am also being muzzle trained so that I can have fear free vet visits. I REALLY want to be the goodest girl, I just need someone to teach me how. In my new foster home, I'm picking up these new skills so fast - I bet I'll be the BEST dog ever in no time! I have lived with a cat before, but otherwise I would like to be the only animal in the house. I am also not great with kids, but older teenagers are OK. You can also follow me on Instagram at @bloos__cloos! Intake Reason: Return Adoption - "Too Much Responsibility" 2/10Return Adoption 1/5/20 Owner surrender 7/27/18Weight: 64 poundsMedical Observations: (4/16) Per Vet Check- Patient is BAR with no URI signs at time of examBehavioral Observations:(3/26/20) Dog-on-dog Incident: Bloo was unleashed in a large, fenced yard. Another dog entered the yard on leash. Bloo did not immediately notice the other dog. When she did, she ran towards the dog and proceeded to attack the dog unprovoked. The other dog's owner attempted to intercept Bloo by stepping between her and the other dog, but she circled around and clamped on the dog's tricep, biting it to the bone. The dogs were quickly separated and the other dog was taken to emergency care. Bloo did not harm any humans while being separated. (3/1/20) Male Volunteer- She was easily leashed, went out through kennels smoothly and once in the large run was mostly not interested in the two men and one woman in the run with us. Eventually she would go say hi, and allow pets. The potential adopter then held the leash and walked around the yard with her. She took treats from me and the other men gently. No major concerns aside from some pulling as people and dogs could be seen through the fence. It was a good meet overall. She went back in just as easily and allowed me to unleash without a problem. (2/10/20) New Adoptive Owner--active, affectionate, hyperactive, playful, good with women. The dog is overall fine with the children, but has snapped about 2 times at the owner's 14 year old daughter. She did not ever make contact or try to actually bite, just hard barks. (Ages 14, 16, and 17). She is also Crate Trained and was said to be good in her crate(1/5/20) Adoptive Owner-- active, affectionate, hyperactive, playful, good with women, the dog is overall fine with the children, but has snapped about 2 times at the owner's 14 year old daughter. !!! AVAILABLE for Adoption from Foster Care !!! CERSEI FKA CHARLIE - A#37269202Pictures and Video:Sweet Charlie in foster care - https://photos.app.goo.gl/eX9qghAQ96RDSUUEAPersonality: Charlie is a very pretty golden pit mix. Sweetest dog I've ever known. Good with kids and calmed down in the new situation very quickly, from normal anxiousness in a new home. I can't keep her beyond the Corona quarantine and will be sad to see her go. Good with kids and very tolerant of anything. Not food possessive, and takes new direction well. Housebroken. Is learning sit, stay, and come. Understands no, but gives you those puppy eyes when you say it. Not jumpy, and rarely tries to jump up on you. Loves the car, but doesn't like box trucks, dump trucks, or bicyclists. When I'm out with her everyone compliments her looks and demeanor. Walks well, doesn't pull, and is not treat oriented. But she's strong and I wouldn't let a child walk her. Medical Observations:(3/28) Presented to clinic for seizure and cough. Foster reports that had a seizure last Sunday that lasted about 5-10 minutes, no recurrence of seizure activity since then. Patient is BAR, mentally appropriate, no neuro deficits detected. No nasal discharge at time of exam and auscults normally, coughs only after pulling very hard on harness. Harness has front leash attachment that does ride up when pulling hard. No evidence of URI currently that requires treatment, but recommend monitoring and can recheck if foster has concerns. Both maxillary canines are fractured with draining tracts bilaterally through mucosa where canine tooth roots would be expressing purulent discharge. Suspected bilateral maxillary canine tooth root abscess that will require tooth extraction beyond capacity of shelter. Starting clindamycin 300mg PO BID x14 days . Recommend monitor for additional seizure activity since only one time event that happened one week ago, and if happens again to try to video record event and bring in ASAP for assessment. Possible causes of seizure activity include idiopathic epilepsy, underlying metabolic disease, toxin exposure, infectious, trauma, primary brain pathology (tumor, infection, other) vs other. Full work-up and treatment if patient has additional seizure activity are beyond capacity of the shelter.Behavior Observation:(4/16) Per Adopter -- Adopter wants to return Cersei because she is too rough with her daughter & has separation anxiety. Stated when left alone to run errands she scratches at the door and barks the whole time which is not allowed in her apartment. Says Cersei is a great dog and super sweet but just acts too rough with daughter "like she's a chew toy" and doesn't feel safe since it's just her and her daughter at home without someone to help.Bite Details:On 4-23-20, the small child was petting the dog on the back while the owner was on the phone. The owner got up to go to the bathroom, the daughter got up to follow, then the dog bit the child's face, unprovoked. The child had two puncture wounds, and was bleeding. She will most likely be going to urgent care soon. The owner states that before this incident, the only concern was the dog's severe separation anxiety, and she was scheduled to return the dog tomorrow. The owner was clear in saying that the dog would do absolutely fine with experienced dog owners, and a home with no children. The owner states that the only reason she was going to return the dog for the separation anxiety was due to her landlord ordering her to.This animal is currently available from foster care through ACCT Philly's Adoptions Programs. **BONDED WITH SISTER LILAC**Chanel fka Mally A42898425This sweet puppy was found wandering as a stray and traveling with her companion, Lilac (A42898406). While we are unsure if these two beauties are mother and daughter or sisters, there is one thing we know for sure.....they absolutely love each other and look to each other for security and companionship. They enjoy spending time running and playing outside in the play yard, where they will share toys and kisses. They walk well in harness leashes and take treats very softly. Once they burn a little energy, they are thrilled to snuggle in with their volunteer friends and melt right into all of the petting. We would love to see these two sweethearts find a forever home together. They certainly will fill your home with joy😊Photos: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmHxR8U7Dog meet: Mally and Poochi: https://youtu.be/paqOHDQ0lfALilac and Mally 1: https://youtu.be/N8iE0NyEPIELilac and Mally 2: https://youtu.be/W4QLKuPXr04!!! He has some separation anxiety when left alone but does well in a crate without any destruction issues. Deke is a little nervous to meet people for the first time, but once he warms up he is the sweetest little boy. He is younger, around 1-2 years old, and loves playing with other dogs and cuddling with furry friends and humans.Currently, Deke lives with 3 female dogs with no issues guarding food, sharing toys, or romping around the yard with friends. At nighttime, he sleeps on his dog bed on the floor next to his foster sisters and sleeps throughout the night without issues. His foster family is currently working on social interaction to help Deke realize people are good and not to be feared. We are also working on walking nicely on a leash with daily walks, Deke has exhibited major improvement. My name is Gertrude, but everyone just calls me Gigi. I'm 2 years old, I weigh an athletic 60 lbs, and I'm on the lookout for my forever home. Since you stopped by, I'd like to tell you a bit about who I am and the home I need to help me be the best girl I can be. My ideal person (or people) would have had a dog or two like me in the past, and will know how to help me shine. Most importantly you should know that I really like the calm and quiet setting I am in now in foster care, so having a lot of neighbors (like in an apartment building or townhouse) or a lot of visitors over often won't really work for me. Honestly, I want to be your one and only - kid, dog, or cat roommates don't fit that vision. I know that's a lot to ask, but in return, I will shower you with love and attention! I can't get enough kisses and belly scratches from my foster fam. I thrive on the whole snuggling thing too. I have a little bit of FOMO when it comes to what my foster parents are doing, so sometimes I follow them around to see if I can lend a paw. But the rest of the day I just sleep on the couch, relaxing without a care in the world. I'm super into my routine! I sleep through the night, nap through the morning, get my exercise on in the afternoon, and then crash by 8:30 pm. Playing ball is my favorite exercise so a fenced in yard would be best for me. During play time I look all energetic at first, but the funny thing with me is that it doesn't last very long! I prefer to stay away from busy parks because they're usually too crowded for my liking. And I definitely prefer to stay away from squirrels, or rather I prefer they stay away from me. I'm get pretty excited when I experience new things (meeting new people, visiting new places, etc), so I will need someone with patience and the know-how to help me learn that not every new thing is something to get amped up about. But I'm smart, if I do say so myself! I love "school", aka training time, and I challenge myself to learn new things as quickly as possible. Since moving into my foster home, I've learned sit, down, "come here," and to go into my crate when asked. I'm also house and crate trained. I even learned to ring a bell to tell my foster fam that I need to go out, so I'm pretty proud of that! To top it off, I'm learning about gentle leaders and how they make going on a walk more enjoyable for everyone. One more thing - I hear my adoption fee is sponsored, so that means I can come home with you for free. And that's pretty great! If you'd like to learn more about me, please email my foster at lcfaykes@gmail.com or you can visit my IG @theycallme_gigi_Intake Type: (4/11) Return, (2/7) StrayWeight: 60.8 lbsBite Details: (4/11) Gertrude and her owner were walking by their fence, getting ready to go for a walk. Gertrude saw the other owner's dog and "like a light switch", went after the other dog. Dogs start to fight and owner tries to break up the fight, but he got bit on the right hand. Owner's neighbor jumped the fence and tried to help break up the fight. Owner informed me that the neighbor did not require hospitalization, said he had some scratches but he was bleeding. Owner's wife also tried breaking up the dog fight and she got bit on her finger. Both owner and wife went to urgent care, got cleaned up and were give antibiotics. Owner had the worst injuries out of everyone. Owner's other dog was hospitalized, needed stitches. Owner said that Gertrude "took a big chunk" out of other dog's back. Gertrude latched on the other dog. This animal is currently available from foster care through ACCT Philly's Adoptions Programs. She is approximately 7 years old with a lot puppy energy left in her and would thrive in a household that could give her lots of attention. She loves to be goofy in the yard entertaining herself with the ball, rag doll, or bone and adores to cuddle on the couch with you to watch a movie or read a book. Did I mention she enjoys to give kisses in the most gentle manner? And of course, those belly rubs....what dog doesn't enjoy those?Glinda has some quirks, like us all. I do notice she has a huge prey drive...which means she chases birds that happen to be flying by (yes, even 300 yards in the sky, lol), squirrels, and she is not a fan of moving cars. Although, during the past few walks, she seems to be getting desensitized....which is great! She does not enjoy car rides. We plan to experiment with soft crates in the car to see how she reacts to them.Glinda is crate trained and obeys some commands. Her recall is actually pretty good too. She will eat any food you give her - she is not picky at all! She recently had bloodwork and a urine analysis which both came back clean. She is currently on Heartguard and Simparica (flea & tick). She is up to date on all her shots. if it were not for our resident dog being a bit too territorial, we would have kept Glinda. If you have any questions about Glinda, feel free to email me directly at frankferra@gmail.com.Intake Type: (7/5) StrayWeight: 55lbsThis animal is currently available from foster care through ACCT Philly's Adoptions Programs.
