About Melody

Incredibly sweet and well-mannered Melody is a lovebug. Meet Melody! This 11 year old boxer is an incredible companion. She walks so well on leash and doesn't get distracted by other dogs. This easy going gal loves hugs and pets all day long and always wants to show off her toys to you! This laid back older baby naps a good portion of the day but still gets up and going for her walks- she has a pep in her step! She loves car rides and sticking her head out the window. She's very gentle and has arthritis in her hind legs so would do best in a house without too many stairs. She takes medicine for her arthritis twice a day and get eye drops twice a day. Since she's an older sweetheart, she has different lumps and bumps all over her body that her owner will need to keep an eye on. Though we haven't observed this behavior, Melody's last family said she can get snippy with other dogs over food, so this baby would love to be the only pup in the house. She's great with cats and wants to play with them but knows when to leave them alone. She loves people of all ages and sizes and is incredibly gentle with kiddos! She's such a good cuddler and will nuzzle right into your lap to get close to you. Are you ready to give melody a place to call her forever home?  Friendly Bernard is a handsome boy looking for the perfect cuddle companion! Bernard looks like a tough guy but is the biggest softy around. This handsome boy loves head rubs, belly rubs, back rubs and really any kind of rub. A true homebody, Bernard is dedicated to cuddling during television, chirps for a little petting and loves to sleep next to you – the perfect house guest. Bernard has had some ear issues that will need attention, he receives daily drops and may need follow up appointments to monitor his progress. He would do best in an adult home to live the quiet life of sleeping in the sunshine stretched out with his white fluffy belly in the air.  Bernard has tested positive for feline leukemia virus (FeLV), which causes a weakened immune system.  FeLV  cats have shorter lifespans than other kitties, but don't  require medication or daily treatment. With a caring home and attentive person who can catch any early signs of illness, FeLV cats will live perfectly normal, happy lives. Only cats can catch  FeLV , so they are able to live with other species (or other cats who are  FeLV  positive).  Staff will be happy to tell you more about FeLV if you have any questions at all!   Super affectionate and playful! Hi! I'm Bilbo.  I'm a 6 month old male kitten who loves nothing more than a cuddle. I like to sit as close as I possibly can and purr right in your ear :) I'm looking for a house that will shower me with love and pats. I'm still young and have loads of energy. I really like chasing my bell ball up and down the hall and scratching at my post so a house with lots of toys would be great. I'm a confident little man and settled in to my foster home right away.  Spunky and cuddly boy looking for his forever home. This little dude is a great combo of playful and sweet. He is energetic and sassy, but still finds time to be cute and cuddly. His favorite things to do are sunbathing on the windowsill and playing with his toys- he also enjoys joining my conference calls! He's an entertaining coworker. While he's quite good at entertaining himself, he really comes to life when he has someone to play and interact with (he actually knows how to fetch!) He's an outgoing little guy who is always curious and down to explore. He is FIV+, but all that means is that he needs some extra love! He is still a happy, loving, go-lucky guy ready for his forever home. He's happiest when his people are around, and would thrive in a home with adults and/or teens.  Hi there! My name is Cashew! I'm so excited to find my forever home! My foster mom said that's my name because I'm a nut. I'm just a kitten so I'm not sure what that means but I think it means I'm the best and most beautiful little boy in the world? Investigations into the matter are still pending. I'm a super energetic kitten and I LOVE to play! My favorite toys are cat teasers but I'm really up to play with anything I can find. I also like sitting on people's shoulders and discovering new ways to escape my playpen! If you want the most entertaining kitten in the world, let my foster mom know! I love other kittens and I definitely need a cat friend to help me get some of my energy out. I can be adopted alongside another PAWS kitten or I can get to know your cat!  Active kitty looking for an older sibling! This young orange guy is looking for a home with an older, but still young kitty to keep him company. Cheesecart has all the hallmarks of a healthy boy - boundless energy, great appetite, excellent potty skills. His brother and sister are also with him in foster care and he's the leader of the group. Cheesecart is specifically looking for a home with a younger cat because he and his siblings were found outside at 6 weeks old in Society Hill with their mama, so he is still getting used to humans. Cheesecart could use a role model to help him learn how fun humans are. His confidence grows every day, but a role model will help bring Cheesecart out of his sometimes shy tendencies. Cheesecart loves treats, purrs, naps, and wrestling. If you shake a jar with treats and call "kitty" he will run right over to you. Cheesecart does not yet love sitting in laps but will tolerate being held. He is neutered and available for adoption today.  Coal is a house panther in training – and always follows the #1 rule of being a cat (“If I fits, I sits”).  Coal loves to hang out in cardboard boxes – I’m sure he’d love any toys you’d buy him, the Amazon box they came in would be just as interesting to Coal!  Coal has grown up big and strong with his 5 siblings (Pepper is the only sibling not adopted yet) and now is ready to join your family (if you have a cardboard box for him, that is)! Coal has suspected Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) or “wobbly cat syndrome.”  Cats are born with this condition, and it will affect him for life without getting worse or better. CH occurs in-utero when the part of a cat's brain that controls motion isn't fully developed by the time they are born. Some cats have very light forms of CH, while others will be extra wobbly! Coal is very wobbly – which means he doesn’t walk well and more often crawls (or throws himself across) the floor and can’t climb up on furniture.  To keep him safe, Coal would do best in an environment without access to stairs and with carpets (so he doesn’t slip on the floor).  Perhaps that’s why he loves boxes so much, because they offer him a secure place to sit. Although Coal is very affected by his CH, he doesn’t let that stop him – he is super playful and likes toy mice and balls (or attacking his own tail) but he is also content to sit with quietly with you.  He knows he’s a handsome boy and is waiting for the family that will spoil him as he deserves! Coal would be content with a family (adults only or with older respectful children) that's around a lot to give him attention, but who can be very mindful of his condition and help him out should he get stuck somewhere.  He has a great personality and doesn’t seem to realize there is anything “wrong” with him – and is looking for a home where he can live life to the fullest! He always wants head scratches! When he was found he was in pretty bad shape. He was diagnosed with FIV, but also had bad respiratory infection which required antibiotics and isolation.   Handsome Loving Brown Tabby Boy! Dakota is a very sweet, very energetic playful boy who loves every kind of toy to bat around, especially twisty toys and catnip stuffed mice! He likes wand toys but quiet ones (i.e. with just feathers or ribbons, no noise makers attached). He also loves catnip kick stick types of toys! He's a good eater, both wet food and dry kibble, uses the litter box, and loves to climb so a multi-tiered cat tree/scratcher would be a good idea to have for him, preferably by a window to rest at the top and look out. He would do well paired up with his brother, Virgil (#PHLP-A-43456) as they are both a bit on the timid side and often play and nap together, or if adopted alone, would do well in a quiet home without a lot of foot traffic or noise going on, or loud dogs, and with a patient pet parent who will set aside time throughout the day to play with him gently and on his terms.  Sink obsessed quiet gentleman looking for a peaceful home. Dante is a sweet, gentle guy that just wants a warm patch of sun and a quiet house to call his own. He is fond of laps and likes to perch on high places to observe his domain. Sometimes he'll come running when we go into the bathroom because we've spoiled him with letting him drink from the sink--how could you resist? His voice is very deep and low, sounding like a 'quack'. Dante has some GI issues that can cause diarrhea and a decreased appetite. He is currently on daily medication to help with his symptoms and will likely need some further diagnostics in the future. He is looking for a person who is comfortable administering daily medication and adhering to a special diet. Being a sensitive guy, Dante would really flourish as the only cat in the household, but will tolerate living with another docile cat who will respect his space. Dante is such a sweetheart and would enjoy spending his golden years in the comfort of your home!   A big-eyed boy with a big old’ heart!!!    Hi everyone, I’m Dante! I’m a sweet adult tabby who likes two things: perching and people! I’m a huge couch potato and spend my days lounging in the sun until my foster mom comes home for cuddles! I am the best companion a person could want and I do well with other cats.  Elvis - the Super Senior is a very active, curious, and social cat that wants pets and your love. Elvis is a total ham with some very unique markings. He even wears pants around the house.  Despite his age, he is very active - he holds the current record in our house for stair climbing. He is exceptionally social and wants to always be part of the action - no running and hiding from this guy. He loves to wander around and investigate; we suspect he's a good hunter too. But more than exploring, he likes to hang with people. He is super affectionate and really enjoys (okay...sometimes he demands) pets, and a lap to sit on. His loud purrs and sweet nuzzles are the best! He will do best as an only pet, and in an adult house. He can get a bit frightened by loud or sudden movements so someone with a calm demeanor and cat experience would be ideal. He does a little bit of over-grooming, but he came to PAWS with mattes and bald spots (all of which have cleared up), but his coat could use some continual care. Luckily he enjoys being brushed so this isn't difficult at all. Finally, he has the sweetest meow you've ever heard (he should really be doing cat voice-overs). This big guy still has LOTS of love to give (and a few more pounds to pack on). Age: 13 years How I came to PAWS: A03575483 Animal ID#: found stray I am not at the shelter.  A loving, adventurous kitten! George is the alpha kitten of his litter of 5, and is usually off exploring the apartment. He was the first one to walk and to meow, and seems to be the leader of the pack. His adventurous nature does not stop him from being one of the cuddliest kittens out there! If you put a cozy blanket on your lap, he will lie down on top and will be thrilled if you give him some ear scritches as he dozes off. He was raised with his 4 siblings (though he now only lives with one), and would be happiest if you took him with his brother Idaho because he loves to play with them! Age: 9 weeks. Please note: due to the Covid-19 crisis, PAWS has postponed all spay/neuter surgeries until further notice. To adopt this unaltered pet, a $100 refundable deposit is required in addition to the adoption fee. Once spay/neuters are resumed, you can make an appointment for your adopted pet to be fixed at PAWS, and your deposit will be returned the day of surgery.     _____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.
