About BATMAN "Good w/ Calm Dogs**

**Handsome Batman is looking for a home!** Batman is a 6 year young lab/shep mix. He's been in the same home since 2015 but unfortunately due to change in a family situation needs to be rehomed. Gets along great with calm, respectful dogs and kids; he will not do well with high-energy, overly playful dogs. Batman met 2 cats on 2 different occasions and was scared of them. His hobbies include sunbathing, napping, playing with bones, eating and going for walks. He dislikes thunderstorms and fireworks. Batman would enjoy a home with fenced in yard and his person/s not being gone for long hours. Location: BROOKLYN, NY If you are interested in adopting Batman, please contact AmsterDog at 917-689-8414 or info@amsterdog.org. To get the process started, please fill out our online application. Name: Anikan Location: Rotterdam, NY Breed: Mixed Breed Approximate Age: 3.5 years old Sex: Male Weight: 69 lbs Medical History: Anikan is up to date on shots and microchipped. 🐶Other Dogs: No ❌ small dogs and small animals; Yes ✅ dogs of his size or larger. 😽Cats: No ❌ 🏠House-trained: Yes ✅ ⭐️ Crate-trained: Yes ✅ 👫Kids: Yes ✅ Foster Comments: Anikan is in need his furever home 🏡 he’s looking for a place with kids as he loves to pal around with them, especially my 1yr old. Anikan’s place should NOT have any cats 🐈 or birds 🦜 or small dogs 🐶 but he loves to have a buddy his size (over 50lbs) to romp around with. Anikan is kennel trained and knows basic commands, but does still need to learn pulling while on his leash is NOT acceptable. This young stud muffin absolutely loves the outdoors and being snuggled up by your feet or lounging on the couch 🛋 with ya! ACC volunteer writes: Anikan is an endearing chap who has already made a number of friends at the care center. He has a gentle demeanor, enjoys company and treats, listens to commands and owns an outgoing personality. He wonders why some dogs bark at him and I think that if he was a human, I would see him shaking his head. Anikan is wise! He is a good walker, does is business as soon as we are out of the building and is fine sharing the street with other pooches, bikes and cars. Spending time with Anikan is relaxing as he is such an easy going four-legged friend, ready to please and share his life with you. This laid-back 4 y/o, 65 lb boy - Bullwinkle (now nicknamed Rocky) - came to Philly ACCT shelter as a stray and eventually was slated for euthanasia. Now that he's had time to decompress out of the shelter, he's ready for a home to call his own. While at the shelter, the volunteers who spent time with him reported that he really enjoyed going for long walks and getting lots of affection and petting. He also did well on a dog meet with a shy, submissive female. Now, his foster mom says "Bullwinkle (Rocky) very good and chilled-out boy who's patiently waiting for his forever home," says his foster mom. "Often, people choose a pet based on their looks instead of their loyalty and the love they're ready to give. But there are some dogs that choose YOU...and that's our Bullwinkle." Bullwinkle (Rocky) will do best in a calm/quiet and experienced adult home (no children under 16) where he will feel secure and loved. Although we don't know anything about his background, we suspect he may have been hit as he seems to be fearful of sudden movements. His new family will need to be patient and give him the time he needs to open up and trust you, as well as understand his tendency to resource guard and give him the love and guidance to work through those issues with him. He is an "alpha" personality and has shown to do best with submissive female dogs (no males). If you are a lover of peace and tranquility, Bullwinkle (Rocky) is the perfect companion to go for a walk, hang out in the yard, take a leisurely car ride or just snuggle up next to you on the couch. He's hoping someone will give him the forever home he deserves! Check out Bullwinkle (aka Rocky's) video presentation featured live on instagram by #fosterdogs: https://youtu.be/HDPZCdI80IA If you would like to open your heart and home to Bullwinkle (Rocky), please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or complete our application at www.amsterdog.org/application to get the process started. Butterscotch is a handsome 5 year old, neutered male Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer Mix who weighs approximately 60 pounds. He’s microchipped and up to date on his vaccines. Butterscotch is a former NYC ACC Shelter dog that’s currently living in a foster home where his behavior has been thoroughly evaluated. Butterscotch is house trained, crate trained, behaves well when left home alone, and knows his commands including: sit, stay, down, paw, and roll over. Butterscotch is a very tolerant, calm, and well mannered dog. Butterscotch is kid friendly and does great with children of all ages. He’s a social dog who makes friends with every person he meets, both men and women. Butters an affectionate dog who loves to give kisses. He will cuddle on the couch with you or lay by your feet while you’re working from home. Wherever you are, he’s likely not too far away! Butters is a big fan of dog toys who loves to play tug a war or fetch, if you’re up for it! He’s also great at keeping himself entertained with his favorite toys which are filled kongs, chew bones, bully sticks, and stuffed squeaky toys. Butters the perfect balance of laid back and active that you could ever ask for in a dog. Butterscotch is a social butterfly who loves attention from all people so he’s very comfortable with strangers approaching him to say hi. While in foster care, Butters often goes to public places such as stores and restaurants. He’s respectful and quiet, so he’s the perfect buddy to run errands with! Butterscotch walks well on leash with minimal pulling and loves car rides. He’ll always be happy to join you on an adventure! Butterscotch does not get along with other dogs. If he sees another dog while out on a walk, he will pull towards the dog but does not bark or growl. His reactions to dogs has improved over time with training but he will not be a dog you can take to a dog park for playtime. Since Butters does not get along with other pets, he must be the only pet in the home. Butters is the happiest when surrounded by people so he’s the perfect dog for an active family but will thrive in any household. He is located in New York City but looking for an adopter who can provide Butterscotch a peaceful home with a yard outside of a hectic city. Transportation will be provided to his forever home regardless of distance, so long as the adopter can provide Butterscotch a loving home that fits the above criteria. Darlin’ - a term of endearment….so deserved for this sweet 60 lb, 8 year old girl. Surrendered to our care when her person lost their home, Darlin' lost everything too – her person, her home, her safety. She’s an amazing dog who is not only housetrained, she heads to the edge of the sidewalk to take care of her business. She’s friendly to all people, loves kids, loves baths (and will jump into the tub on her own), sleeps on her own bed but will sometimes sneak onto her person’s bed in the middle of the night, loves to jump and give kisses, loves belly rubs, and knows her basic commands. She is also well-behaved when left home alone while her foster mom is at work. She is not a fan of other dogs or cats so she needs to be an only pet. She does pull on the leash moderately and would benefit from leash training or from home with a fenced yard. "Darlin’ is a gorgeous, sweet, playful, snuggly, takes treats gently, has a great smile and gorgeous eyes, is beautifully groomed, loves playing with her plush toys, and poses for photos like a pro,” says her foster mom. “Seriously, if you are still reading this and not rushing over to meet her, you are missing out on a gem. But don’t just take my word for it...see for yourself." In fact, the only reason Darlin’s foster mom is giving her up is because she works multiple jobs and is out of the home for many hours at a time. She would love to see Darlin’ have a family where she gets all the attention she deserves and more physical activity than she can provide. Darlin is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped. This happy, healthy, darling girl Darlin’ is ready to meet you! To get the process started, please fill out our online application. Link to our Application: https://www.amsterdog.org/application Owner’s comments: Ejay is not a fan of other animals initially but once he gets used to them, he is ok with them. He is unfriendly towards any animals near the property that he does not know. Ejay is good kids and people in the home but takes a little bit to get used to outsiders and will bark if anyone enters the home. He would be perfect in a quiet home with a dedicated owner who could work with him on his behavioral issues. He is crate and house trained. Ejay has allergies that require either a monthly shot or daily oral medication along with medicated baths. The allergies cause redness of the skin along with itchiness and once the shot wears off, a slight odor indicating he needs his next dose will peak through. He is very respectful and polite to us, and has a very strong trust with me. When he feels uneasy he clings to me for some balance to ensure everything is okay. We would be willing to help with some of the expense of his allergy medications if needed. They arent that expensive, but we know it’s tough right now, and we just want him to have what he needs. show less

It’s sad that “I will love you forever” at 8wks ended up meaning, I will love you until life gets tough, you do something wrong, or until I get old. Then, I will dump you in a big, scary, loud shelter in the city. And, I will sign you over to be euthanized, as supposedly, I am old, people aggressive, and animal aggressive. That’s Justice’s story. Her family welcomed her into their home at 8wks and then dropped her off to die at 5-6yrs old. Now, we don’t know the whole story, but we will tell you that it is apparent that Justice was not socialized outside the yard or home. Maybe she was owned by someone who didn’t understand guardian breeds. Maybe she was owned by someone who didn’t know they were adding a highly intelligent, working dog to the family and that this higher energy mastiff breed needed exercise, socialization, and training. Or maybe she was owned by someone who started off training and socializing her and then had tragedy strike and everything took the back seat. Whatever it may be, Justice did NOT deserve to die. CCR could not allow that to happen. We brought Justice to safety and now that we have learned more about her, we know that she needs an experienced home WITHOUT small dogs or cats. Here’s a little more about Justice: Justice is an active 5-6 year old Cane Corso who was surrendered to a Philadelphia city shelter back in February, by the family who added her to their family 5-6yrs prior. AmsterDog and CCR came together to save Justice hours before she was “to be destroyed”. She is currently being fostered by a fantastic and very experienced CCR foster family in Delaware. However, there’s one major issue…. Justice likes the cats too much. Remember that love for chasing the tennis ball I mentioned? Well, that stems from Justice’s incredible working drive, otherwise known as her “prey drive”. We REALLY need to get Justice into a foster to adopt situation in which she is ideally, the only dog. And, definitely NO cats or small dogs. Justice has no known history with children, so please don’t apply if you have children under 12 who live in your home or visit your home. Justice enjoys multiple walks a day, averaging about 3 miles. This girl has ENERGY and she can play fetch until her humans are more than worn out. Once she gets to know you, Justice is very loving and seeks out attention from men and women. Currently, she is crazy about her foster Dad… absolutely crazy about him! Justice is eager to please and knows many commands. She is getting better and better on leash, as she is as strong as an ox! **PLEASE SHARE JUSTICE’S STORY AND HELP US FIND THE PERFECT PERSON TO APPLY TO FOSTER OR ADOPT JUSTICE** show less

**LOOKING FOR ADOPTER AND/OR FOSTER WITH CAUCASIAN OVCHARKA SHEPHERD OR RUSSIAN MOUNTAIN DOG BREED EXPERIENCE** Kodiak is a 5 year old, neutered male Caucasian Ovcharka/Caucasian Shepherd dog. Kodiak weighs approximately 160 pounds, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. Former NYC ACC Shelter dog was pulled by AmsterDog Rescue 6 months ago and has been in a foster home in Ansonia, CT since. Kodiak's personality traits are in line with his breed. The Caucasian Ovcharka Shepherd / Russian Mountain Dog breed is primarily known to be protective and breed to be a guardian dog for large livestock originating from the Caucasus region (Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia). Kodiak is a natural guard dog who's protective of his home and owners/fosters but is very affectionate with his people. Kodiak is not welcoming to new people with his caretakers present in the home but is more approachable when removed from the people/home he's guarding. He's is not pet friendly so must be the only dog in his new home. Interested adopters/fosters MUST have Caucasian Ovcharka Shepherd / Russian Mountain Dog breed experience and NO other pets in the home. We are looking for a home that has outdoor/yard space for our big guy. Kodiak would do best in a home within in a rural area with no neighboring pets nearby. Applicants living in a apartment will NOT be accepted. Transportation of any distance will be provided to Kodiak's new home, so long as the adopter/foster fits the above criteria. This 5 y/o, 50 lb, eager-to-please girl - Lady Ivy - has graduated her long-term training education and is ready to go into a foster-to-adopt or forever home! She would do best in a home with older respectful kids and adults that will give her the structure, rules, and boundaries that she needs to succeed. Ivy also needs to be your only pet. Ivy is a dog that likes to hang around her people. While this is a very endearing aspect of her personality, whomever is interested in her must also understand that she cannot be given too much affection as she was previously suffering from anxiety and it could resurface. She isn't a highly energetic dog and does well with short walks, so if you're looking for a dog who is low maintenance, Ivy is a great choice and overall, a well-behaved and wonderful companion! As part of the extensive training she’s been receiving, her foster/adopters will also receive multiple handling lessons to ensure a smooth transition into her new home and so she doesn’t lose any of the amazing on and off-leash skills that she has acquired. Ivy’s trainers will continue to keep in touch with whomever accepts her into their lives so that her transition and life with her new family will be successful. Until then, Ivy will remain with her trainers where they will continue socializing her and maintaining her obedience. Lady Ivy is spayed and microchipped. PRINCESS LIMA BEAN - 7 years old, 52 lbs, Manhattan Let's get to know each other a bit more... A volunteer writes: Princess Lima Bean is a delicate flower, soft and affectionate and longing for someone to take her under their wing and make her feel safe. She's shy at first, but very much wants to be friends, and with a 'slow and low' approach, is happy to come closer for petting and get dressed in a bandanna for our photo shoot. No camera can truly capture her aristocratic beauty, and she's not a fan of posing. Fortunately, my fun-loving friend Simba is playing in the pen next-door. The two are soon enraptured with each other. Princess hops onto the bench and gazes longingly through the fence, whining a little at her beau who jumps and grins hello back at her, then throws in a few reciprocal whines of his own. Even after he leaves the yard, her big brown eyes keep watch on the door, a perfectly loyal Juliet wondering wherefore art her Romeo. I'm a poor substitute but try to soften the loss with some gentle snuggles, and Princess sweetly rewards me with fluttering little cheek kisses. Out in the street she walks nicely on leash, almost immediately takes care of business, and passes yappy small dogs with ease. When a familiar staff member approaches, she greets them with tiny happy tail wags. Princess is quietly charming, easy to handle and so easy to love. With time and TLC from a caring family, she's going to blossom into the most wonderful pet. Lima Bean Videos: https://youtu.be/_DMbKAaOdm0 https://youtu.be/AFAsoS-ZLHo show less

Lola, formerly known as Cola when she was rescued from the Philly ACCT shelter in the nick of time, is a gorgeous 3 y/o, 50 lb girl who is very thankful and has lots of love give! After enduring a lengthy stay at the shelter, it's no surprise that she loves outdoor activities, especially swimming and long walks, so she would make a great companion for hiking and camping. Lola is affectionate and cuddle-motivated, but also a goofy girl who loves playing with her toys. "This sweet girl is just happy being by your side, no matter what the activity is!" says her foster mom. "And, she also walks really well on the leash and has excellent house manners." Lola is good with small children, but a bit wary of adults, especially males, so she will need time and patience getting to know her new parents/family members. She will do best in a "calm" household with respectful children (if any) and experienced, confident, and patient adults. When it comes to other dogs, she is more of a calm/submissive temperament rather than an alpha personality. Basically, she just wants everyone to be nice and get along...but she will defend herself and be protective of her beloved humans if she senses a threat or danger. With slow and proper introductions, Lola would likely benefit from a fur-sibling that is also submissive, gently playful and respectful (NOT too young, rambunctious, or overbearing). This beautiful girl just wants to please and is looking for her forever family to love her in return. Shelly is a captivating 4-year old, 55 lb. girl who is creamy white with brown speckles on her ears, about 55 pounds, with an endearing face, is very smart, eager to please for a food treat, and would love to be your furever pup! This beauty was taken into the shelter as a stray and did not seem to even understand what a dog bed was, how to walk on a leash, or people who wanted to pet her. New to the park experience, Shelly was fearful of tree trunks and insects that fly and buzz. Now that she’s been in foster for a while, she leaps and prances through the park, enchanted by sights and sounds and sweet-smelling flowers. With time and positive behavior training, Shelly is now house trained, knows her basic commands, and is following leash instructions like come close, look (at my eyes), find it (she searches for the treat tossed on the ground), and other safety tricks to keep her mind on her handler. She responds to the safety command of “here, here!” when off leash, expecting a treat of real meat. She is still working on “stay”, but she understands and follows “wait.” She is also quiet and well-behaved in the home. Since Shelly is very food motivated and eager to eat her meals, she gets fed from food dispensers requiring work or smarts to retrieve the food (puzzle bowls/toys, snuffle mats, etc.). Shelly could be the perfect jogging partner as she has a lot of energy to expend and loves to chase balls. In fact, Shelly’s foster mom thinks she could be part of a family with tweens-teens to be pet by and chase balls and run around with, or adopted by active adults who like to walk or jog in the park. Prior to being spayed, Shelly was downright unfriendly toward other dogs, male or female. With positive behavior training, she no longer readily lunges at them, but instead “looks” at her handler for a treat when she sees or hears another dog. However, Shelly should be your one-and only pet, since she is unpredictable toward other dogs and is also very reactive toward small running animals like cats and squirrels. Shelly may try to chase a small animal she sees from a car window, and if a backyard is part of her furever home, it must be securely fenced in. “Shelly is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves, loves, loves to be petted by people, even those she meets on walks,” says her foster mom. “And people often remark on how beautiful she is.” Shelly is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Skye Terrier Mix 3 y/o Female 35 lbs Philadelphia, PA HOUSE-TRAINED: YES CRATE-TRAINED: YES HEALTH: VACCINATIONS UP TO DATE PREFERS A HOME WITHOUT: CATS, DOGS, KIDS Skye is a little 3 y/o, 35 lb. female terrier mix that was saved from euthanasia in Philadelphia PA. This little girl is very sweet and super affectionate, knows her basic commands, is house trained, and crate trained. She loves cuddling, playing with her Kong and other chew toys, and peanut butter! *But* she also becomes very protective of her “person” after she settles in and becomes comfortable and has shown to lunge at and nip/bite others as a result. She is also highly reactive to other animals so she must go to a single-pet home, with no children, and a very experienced owner willing to work with her and provide the behavior training and modification she needs. We know there is someone out there who will see this sweet little girl as the diamond in the rough that she is and show her she need not fear being abandoned ever again. Due to Covid, she was not spayed at the shelter and may also need to have a potential hernia repair done at the same time (according to the shelter vet exam).
