About Nala

Hey friends,Do you know what a "high drive" dog is?? They are dogs who are driven by purpose, even under the most adverse of conditions. This is is great when they have a job. Maybe not so great for an average pet owner. What they are:High energy.Extremely athletic.Highly trainable.A lot to handle. What they are not:For beginners.Good with strangers in uncontrolled environments. For people with sedentary lifestyle. For people with an expectation that the dog will be "easy" because it's smart. These dogs make great:Herding dogs.Police dogs.Search and rescue dogs.Agility competitors or other competition dogs. They need a job, even if that job is agility equipment in your backyard. They are not dog park dogs, bar dogs, and a lot of them are not super awesome at walking around the neighborhood.More than likely, their owner will need to either BE a professional trainer or work very closely with one until a good working understanding is developed. These are great, loyal companions, but they do require a fairly high time investment on the front end. They tend towards reactivity if they are not trained well and trained consistently.Nala is that dog. We are working as well as we can with her in the shelter, but we are not professional trainers, and shelter life is less than ideal for these dogs. She still deserves a shot at a great life. Please share her. We need to work together as a community to find her the right home. Please be advised that all potential and interested adopters will be screened by the manager and this dog will not be shown without an appointment. Thanks for all your support!!-the staff of Farmers Branch Animal Services
