About Ryder

Ryder - looking for a foster-to-adopt home ... Be prepared to fall head over heels for this boy! Meet Ryder! He is a 2yr old neutered American Bulldog! He is a very sweet, sensitive, playful, gentle and loya l dog we just recently pulled from Placer County Animal Shelter.  He is shy when you first meet him but give him a little time and you will see the spunky personality we’ve come to love!  Ryder was someone's family dog. He lived with another small dog and a cat. Kids too ... although the family realized he's no longer a puppy and couldn't handle his size so they decided to surrender him to their local shelter. We are still learning more about him, but from what we see, he was really never socialized outside of his home and property, so he's learning to walk out and meet other dogs and people.  He's also learning to trust new people he meets .. just need slow introduction otherwise he will hide behind his person.   If you're looking for a sweet, gentle giant bully, Ryder may be the one for you.   We would like to move him to a foster-to-adopt home, so we can all learn all about him and work with a trainer as needed, and then we can finalize adoption. To learn more about Ryder and to arrange to meet him, please help us learn more about you by filling out our online application: www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow Thank you.

Hi everyone, I’m Blackie. Nice to meet you! My journey began far away in New Delhi, India, where I was found very injured and living on the streets back in May of 2018. Some nice people helped me get the medical care I needed, and I’m all better now. I have a little hitch in my step but that doesn’t stop me! I’m a female, about 4 years old, weighing 40lbs. I walk well on leash, am house trained, and love going for short walks. I have a huge heart and love to snuggle on the couch, lay in the sun listening to the birds, and go for car rides. Have I mentioned I have a smile that can melt hearts?  Because I had a rough start to life, I’ve been learning to trust and come out of my shell more and more each day. I’m a bit guarded and shy but I warm up once I know a human or dog isn’t going to hurt me. If I get startled, I can be a bit nippy, so I need an understanding person to know to wake me gently and give me space when I’m eating. I’m learning that life can be wonderful, and I have so much love to give.    My dream home would be an all adult home, where my people are around a lot, though I also enjoy my downtime. (kids 16 and up OK!)  I like other dogs, but I’m unsure of dogs with stronger personalities. I get along great with the dog at my foster home, who’s super chill and about my same size, and we have fun playing together. I would do best in a home without small children. My foster mom is amazed at my transformation so far. With love, patience, and understanding, I’ll fill your home with the joy that only a dog can provide, if you just give me a chance.   PS - To arrange meeting me, please help my humans learn more about you, by filling out their online application: www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow     show less

Domino’s a male neutered miniature pinscher who’s back on his game after being dealt a bad hand. An 8+ year-old dude, he was surrendered by his owners to a Southern California shelter with pneumonia. He was in bad shape when he pulled him, so his freedom ride was a trip straight to the vet. After a few days of hospitalization at Sage, Domino had a lucky streak...once he stabilized, we whisked him away to the VID (Very Important Dog) suite at his amazing foster home.     Now, Domino’s happy, well, and ready for his forever home.     Domino wants to be a part of your entourage--he’ll follow you here, there, and everywhere.  When it’s time to chill, he’ll relax nearby or cozy up to you on the couch. Once he's settled in, he's cool hanging out by himself for a few hours, snoozing in his dog bed or on the couch. He's very happy to greet you when you come home!   The little mister has a clean bill of health. Though, he doesn’t hear very well. He needs a special family who can learn to speak his special doggy dialect. He gets around great for an old guy -- his exercise routine includes doing zoomies around the house, long walks, and play time with his pals at the dog park. He likes both dogs and people of all ages and sizes.   Domino’s a winner. Want to meet him? Fluffy is a neutered Pomeranian mix, about 25 lbs, with the energy of a young adult at 8 years of age. He is very playful, fun, and sweet once he gets to know you. He enjoys his car rides and loves to go on walks, and now he is learning how to ignore strangers and things that look intimidating to him. Luckily he loves his treats and is a quick learner. He likes other dogs of all sizes but is a chaser when he sees other animals. In his foster home, he is learning to look at his person instead of other people who are about to walk past him.   Fluffy was abandoned by his previous family and dropped off at a Southern California shelter, and they put seizures on the form as their reason for not wanting him. He has not had any seizures or any signs of it while he has been in our care. This sweet dog puts up a tough front by barking at strangers and charging towards them, however, he has been making some progress in a relatively short amount of time at his current foster home and has shown us that he has great potential if given a chance.    Fluffy loves to learn and responds really well to positive reinforcement training methods. He is looking for a loving home where his family can consistently and patiently keep him on a routine that ensures him a bright and happy future that he so deserves. He is best suited for a home with an interest in teaching Fluffy more life skills using reward-based positive reinforcement training.  Not suitable for homes with young children.   To arrange meeting Fluffy, please help us learn more about you by filling out our online application: www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow   show less

Our sweet girl Leila has come so far in the few months since we rescued her from the San Jose shelter, where she was surrendered by her former owners. This calm, mild-mannered 8-year-old German Shepherd wasn’t doing well in the shelter, as she was very timid and scared. She was especially afraid of the leash. We’re not sure what happened to her in her former life, but we can’t imagine it was positive. All that is behind her now, as she’s been decompressing nicely in her foster home.  Leila enjoys walks and lounging around for most of the day. She is very aware of her daily routine and knows when it is time for her walk. She now excitedly comes to the door and is open to having her leash put on. She walks really well on leash and is generally an easy-going dog. She’s house trained and has never had an accident in the home. When left alone at home, she relaxes and sleeps and does not get into any items at all.  She does still startle easily by sudden movements and loud noises, and she doesn’t like getting pet unexpectedly or roughly. She’s also not a fan of getting brushed. She gets along with other calm dogs. She gets a little more confident every day though. Her foster family shares, “We love having Leila in our home as she is incredibly calm, gentle and adorable.” Leila likes going on car rides and enjoying the breeze with her head out of the window. She is able to go on hikes, though does not run or play much. Leila likes cheese, turkey meat and bones. Most of all, she would love a forever home of her own. Could that be you? Loki is looking for His Forever or  Foster to Adopt home! Sweet, sensitive, energetic, and completely love-focused, Loki is estimated to be a six-year-old Staffordshire/Lab mix. This adorable guy was brought to our attention by one of the dedicated volunteers of Contra Costa Animal Services. She and other volunteers saw what a great dog he is and were so sad no one would adopt him just because of his skin issues Poor Loki sat in the shelter waiting for an angel to see past his condition for 8 long months. We just had to step up for him!   Loki has been healing in his foster home, steadily gaining weight, and adjusting splendidly to domestic life. His skin looks SO much better now ...  and he's gained the much needed weight too! If his foster could describe him in two words, they would be “love bug”! His favorite pastime is resting his chin on your arm or leg and looking lovingly into your eyes. To Loki, nothing is better than being with his humans, and he absolutely craves attention and affection. He's also very food motivated (making training easy) and loves to play with other dogs, large or small. His foster shares, “His intentions are pure and he's a pure sweetheart. We'd love to see him go to someone local. He'll always have free baby(dog)sitting with us!”   To learn more about Loki or to arrange a visit, please fill out our online application: tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow Foster-to-Adopt is an option! He's currently being fostered in San Jose. show less

****Foster to Adopt is an option**** Meet Rocco aka Chunky Monkey! Rocco is looking for love! He loves human touch,  whether it be a belly rub or a foot to lie on. He is very smart and trainable, food-motivated and people pleasing. He enjoys his quiet time in his crate and goes in eagerly when he needs a rest. He loves relaxing music, which instantly calms him when he gets excited. Surprisingly, he does not bark or get agitated at the garbage truck outside, dogs passing by or the doorbell ringing. He was quite calm when repairmen were inside the house. Rocco seems to tolerate and enjoy all foods and is best fed out of a big deep bowl. He is quite the sloppy eater and drinker! He is completely house-trained and can go for long periods without a mishap. He is a chewer but can be distracted and redirected to appropriate chew toys. Thankfully, he does not chew on any toy or bedding in his crate!  He is friendly toward all the human residents in our home, but now that he's recovered from the knee surgery, he needs a home with active residents who can show him some fun!  Rocco wants to share his rescue story with you: A while back, I was homeless and wandering the streets of LA when I got hit by a car and ended up in a scary shelter, where I sat for a whole month with a severely fractured leg. That’s when my friends at OPR came to my rescue and got me the expensive surgery I desperately needed. I've recovered nicely   and now I hope to find a foster or foster-to-adopt home who is ready to take me out on adventures and show me some fun!  I’m a very sweet young boy who gets along with cats, dogs of all sizes, and all humans. I love belly rubs, tug of war games, and giving kisses.    If you want to meet me, please contact OPR.   You can also help them learn more about you and your household by filling out their online application: www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow   show less

Rusty is a sweet and affectionate 2-year-old neutered male Doberman about 70 lbs. For Rusty life is full of wonders and it is to be shared and enjoyed with other dogs, humans, and even the oh so mysterious cats!  Rusty is playful yet calm after getting his routine daily walks and exercise. Eager to learn more, he will do really well in a home that can take him through adult dog training using positive reinforcement training methods so that he can learn all the basic commands and improve on his leash walking skills. He doesn't seem to have much experience with leash walking and can pull very hard especially when he sees another dog approaching. He needs someone to work with him and show him that not pulling is way more fun and rewarding than pulling on the leash. With practice, consistency, and patience he will become stellar on his walks.    He likes to rest and relax by his human in the house, and in his foster home, he sleeps in his crate in the bedroom at night. He is truly a great companion and a friend.    Rusty was found roaming a neighborhood along with another smaller dog. We suspect that someone dropped off both dogs in that neighborhood hoping that someone would give them a home. He is ready for his new forever home and will do best in a home with an active lifestyle that can provide him with daily exercise, playdates with well-behaved dog friends, and positive reinforcement training to make sure that no one is lost in translation.   If you are interested to learn more about Rusty OR to meet him, please fill out this form: www.tinyurl.com/AdoptMeNow  We will only respond to folks who submit an application as we get too many inquiries...Thank you!   show less
