ADOPTED 9/25/2023 Sponsor Nemo by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Nemo's sponsor and your donation will help pay for nutritious food and supplements and medical expenses. Nemo thanks you! NEMO. Yes, that’s my real name, more like “Captain Nemo”…than the fish, I’m commanding, and I’m not lost..at least not anymore. I’m currently live with two bozos in Livermore, not the people, giant German Shepherds who, to be honest need my protection…they are old and slow, and don’t know how to bite. (Just don’t tell them I said so.)   As an active 4-month old with lots of energy I’m seeking a home with someone who I can be with as much as possible (I mean like your shadow) who is also active and will take me on adventures, someone rough and tumbly, with German Shepherd experience, that understands rough play, and my needs (I am getting my adult teeth and chewing feels great, so l need lots of toys. After work, I like to walk, have a good meal, and to snuggle on the couch so I can fall asleep with my person watching over me. I walk nicely on a freedom harness, love meeting and playing with other dogs. I sleep on a pad at the foot of the bed, and I’ll let you know if…you know..I need to go potty. I know where, and I use the dog door all by myself, but I prefer if you go with me. I’m a gentle boy, and I’m learning that some things get me treats, like sitting and watching, coming when called (though I’m usually close and check-in anyway, so this is like a freebie), and that “ak!” means I need to stop what I’m doing, and then I get pets for stopping!..another win! I don’t know about cats, and I’m wary of rodents and loud things. I have seen kids, but haven't met any but they sure look like fun. I like crates, but I don’t like to be left alone or closed in one; I have hair trigger sensitivity to sounds and need to be free to investigate and alert my person. I hope you'll be someone kind and patient with a gentle hand who will keep me safe and help me navigate the world...so much to see, and it's so very big. You like this dog...now what? Rudolph thanks you! Rudolph (Rudy) is now 9 weeks old, and almost 9 pounds.  He has dark fur with a little lighter brown on his legs and a little white across his chest.   Little Rudy was a bit behind his siblings when he arrived at his foster home, and we think he may have been stepped on his overly exuberant young mama?? The vet couldn’t find any lingering injuries, so we suspect just a bruising, but he needed some coaxing to get back to eating and drinking.  That is how we discovered his love of scones when he discovered a scone on the counter (yes he was being fed on the counter) and finally decided to start eating again!  After a few days of special feedings, he is now eating puppy food with the rest and fully participating in playing and wrestling with his bigger siblings!  He has a super sweet, loving and fearless personality and will no doubt catch up to his siblings size very soon! Rudolph is waiting with his foster mom in Healdsburg. Puppies this age cannot be left for more than a couple of hours at a time. Sponsor Sierra by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Sierra's sponsor and your donation will help pay for nutritious food and supplements and medical expenses. Sierra thanks you! Hi! I’m Sierra. I’m a healthy six year old girl looking for a new home. I’m on the smaller side at about 56 pounds. I’m very friendly and will lean into you for affection. I allow all over handling and I know quite a few basic obedience skills. With proper introductions, I meet other dogs nicely. I’ve also lived in harmony with cats and livestock. I have been around kids and do great. I like to go in the car but get amped up when motorcycles, other cars etc go by. For everyone’s sanity, I may need to travel in a crate until I get used to being polite when fast moving objects go by. I really like a crate to sleep in at home too. I walk nicely on leash and like to say hello to new friends along the way. I will be a fun girl to take out and about. At home, I can be kept busy with toys and bones. I also have very nice house manners. I hope you’d like to meet me! This is a Courtesy Post. Sierra will be waiting with her family in Lincoln. Evaluation Notes: LM - I evaluated Sierra at my home in Granite Bay.  We met originally in the street in front of my house.  Sierra greeted me happily with no reservations.  She is definately very connected to her owner, Robert, but she was open to me and later leaned against me. We then went into the backyard so I could continue my evaluation. After several minutes of letting Sierra sniff around, I called her to me. I was able to touch Sierra all over her body with no issues. Sierra is healthy and well cared for, although a few pounds overweight. Her ears seemed clean and her teeth were normal for her age with just a little tarter. Her gate seemed normal and her coat healthy. I also introduced her to my Golden, Aspen. The introduction was easy. After just a few minutes, she seemed to ignore Aspen. I then introducted her to my GSD, Hank. She had the same reaction to Hank. She was slightly intersted in Hank, but then moved on after a short period of time. She as a little nervous the entire time and was mostly interested in her owners. Her owners are very technical with Sierra.  They have high expectations of her having to be the perfectly obedient dog at all times and anything outside of calm a perfect seemed to be unacceptable to them. I felt like they expected her to be a robot. Sierra knows her basic obedience and is a very well behaved dog. They don't play with her. In fact, I asked them to send me a video of her playing and having fun and they sent me a video of her executing her commands. When I expressed I'd like to see a silly and fun video and that never was sent to me. I took Sierra for a walk. She pulled a little on the leash, but nothing horrible and stopped pulling after a short period of time. We passed another dog and she looked but didn't react. Sierra is a really nice and easy dog. I think she needs someone that will teach her how to play and receive affection. I think her owners like her, but they don't seem bonded to her. I look foward to Sierra having someone love her and let her be a dog.         You like this dog...now what? Hi! I’m Lyle. I’m a 4 -6 year old GSD and I’m a friendly social boy. Sponsor Lyle by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Lyle’s sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Lyle thanks you! I’m eager to please, playful and like to have fun. I love balls and toys, chasing squirrels and birds and I love to use my nose and tongue for everything from affection to communication. I have super nice house manners and will follow everyone around to make sure I don’t miss out on anything. If my foster family is hanging out either inside the house or out in the garden, I’ll pal around with them wherever they are. I am also fine in a crate.  I am friendly with other dogs and enjoy playing with them. Sometimes I’ll bark at passing dogs when I’m out for a leash walk. However, if my human reminds me to use my manners, I will oblige. I’ve been known to antagonize cats on my neighborhood walks and have a medium prey high prey drive so I would need to look to you for instruction! I can be reminded to pay attention to my human. I do love to sniff on my walks. I also like to sit and look out the front screen door and watch (and sometimes bark at) critters going by. I can be quite protective of my home so will need a family that understands this and will ensure that I practice using good manners. Also, I sometimes need to be reminded that it’s not always my job to decide who is allowed to visit and if you have guests, it's ok to let me have my own space. I am used to the crate or maybe I can have my own bedroom? I’m looking for an adopter who will lead me and allow me to comfortably follow. I LOVE car rides and will make a wonderful travel buddy. If you’d like to meet me, I’ll be waiting in Oakland. You like this dog...now what? Benny thanks you! Hi! I’m Benny. I’m just over a year old and a big goofy 83 lb boy. I'm a friendly guy and enjoy meeting people. My body gets all waggy and silly and sometimes I can't help myself and will jump up for extra love. I'm working on this as most humans don't appreciate my exhuberance. I'm just so happy to say hi. I walk well on leash but could alway use some more practice. I've been on several pack walks and enjoy meeting all the other dogs and people.  In my prior home, I was outside most of the day but my brother, Omar and I slept inside at night and we could go in and out the dog door when the humans were home. I did my business outside!  I know basics like sit and down but would love to learn more.  I like to play ball and don't get possessive when my brother gets there first. I come when called as it always means I get attention and sometimes TREATS, which I take gently because I know I get more that way.  When out and about, I can be just a tad cautious around new things and noises. I haven’t been out in the big world much but do very well considering. I’ll definitely get more used to things as I get more experience. I am a sweet, friendly, affectionate boy and I pretty much like every one and every thing. I'm a little cautious around kitties, especailly the hissing spitting ones. I did live with kitties before so maybe I could again.  Overall, I'm a super boy and will make a great addition to a family. I hope you’d like to meet me. I’ll be waiting in Santa Rosa. Adopted 8/17/23 Hi! It's me, Huckleberry (Huck). I'm looking for my forever home.  I was found on the side of the road and couldn't walk. I had a few breaks in my pelvis and a dislocated hip but all is well now you wouldn't even know it happened. It's been a year and I am perfectly healed. You should see me run ! I love to chase my resident siblings.  Sponsor Huck by clicking here, Your name will appear on this page as Huck’s sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Huck thanks you! THANK YOU COLLEEN A for sponsoring this uber handsome boy. We just know Huck will find his new home and make his new family very happy. He's such a goofball.  Huck was getting a belly rub when he found out he had a new sponsor - thanks Ann A for the Huck love.  Mr. Huckleberry is proud to announce his new sponsor, Patrice L.  Thanks Patrice for the love. Big Woofy THANKS to ALIAKSEI for sponsoring Huck AGAIN. He's very proud of his sponsors. While I'm basically a friendly boy (99% of the time), I will need my new family to help guide me on making the right choices when meeting strangers. I'm a GSD through-and-through and if my person doesn't 'take control' I will step in and step up….and I don't always make the right decision. Let's be honest, every once in a while I bark at people when I'm unsure of them but if I'm given the right instructions by my person, I get over it. I also sometimes will jump up on people so....yeah...another thing I need practice with is remembering NOT to do it.  I am getting really good in remembering that. I have been working with a trainer and have been absolutely perfect during these sessions (he knows us GSDs). I also now am a stellar student in group training! I love group training. I do so well and I like meeting other dogs. Continued training for me and my new family is a must. We all must understand our roles-ie-“My humans are the leaders; not me.” I need to work on impulse control too. Sometimes I don’t think and decide to jump up on someone.  Foster Mom says Huck has strong legs and it hurts! He's doing really with remembering not to jump up in excitement. I’m affectionate and engaging with most humans and do especially great with humans who understand us GSDs. I'm not a couch potato type and I really need to get in my daily exercise and socialization. I love playing with other dogs, large or small, and I really like walking. I'm not a wild child and will settle by your side and chill when asked to. I am quite well behaved in the house and don’t get into things that aren’t mine. I LOVE belly rubs and being brushed. SNUGGLES are my favorite thing to do. Also, I am allowed to sleep on beds and I don't move much at all.  In fact, I sleep very soundly and like to take my time getting up in the morning. I  walk well with a halti and don't pull much anymore. thanks to my ongoing training. I also use a front clip harness. I don't bark or carry on at other dogs and I think car rides are the BOMB. I can barely wait to jump in and GO. I'm great when my foster fam takes me out for breakfast. I lay quietly under the table until they are done. I've seen a few cats and I'm not quite sure if I want to chase them or say hi. I may be a little overwhelming for scaredy-cats. I do like the little humans but because I can be a little reactive to new people at times and kids have lots of new friends, it's best I'm in an adult only home.  I'm also protective of my home and will definitely warn you if someone tries to come to the front door. If you have a little patience and don't mind helping me figure some things out, I won't disappoint you. I'm a really good boy and super handsome and my friends say that I am a terrific and loving companion. I would actually be lots of fun for someone who understands me and will work with me to be the best that I can be. I'll be learning some new things with my foster family in Newcastle if you would like to meet me. Oh, I have been told I sound like Chewbacca talking but that is only when I get excited. Latest update from his foster mom: He absolutely loves to go out in the car. He loves people but his handler needs to be on the ball with inappropriate dogs and people. As with all dogs we have, it goes without saying we need to watch our dogs anyway. Savvy adopters needed. He is a love bug at home, loves to snuggle with you and he’s in heaven if he has a bone. He is great with dogs and does not need another dog because he actually loves people more. He is extremely protective of his home. He’s a typical gsd, kinda goofy, kinda silly but he absolutely loves his people. He is on a halti/ head halter which connects to his martingale. He also can wear harnesses but with walking management, his halti works out for him really well. You like this dog...now what? I am confident and I would love a family that understands I am a true German Shepherd.  I do alert bark on new things to protect our house but once I understand what it is and you help with my curiosity, I will calm down.  I am fully crate trained and will sleep through the night. I am very proud of myself that I am fully potty trained, I sit and lay most of the time when told, and I am working on stay. I really enjoy going on walks and out to coffee shops. I am pretty good on the leash (need a little more work).  I will lay at your side at coffee shops if you give me a small treat from time to time, to reinforce that I am being a good girl; after all food is my weakness.    With my foster family I have had the opportunity to play with a 1 year old Dutch shepherd mix and we get along great, but we do play like GSDs. I have heard of these things called cats, but am unfamiliar with them. I will bark at other larger dogs, or any dog that shows aggression toward me just because I am a bit afraid; but if you introduce me slowly and I feel safe, I will come around and LOVE to play. It doesn't take me long at all. I'm young and look to my human to guide me. Continued socialization around other dogs is important for me and I'll need regular walks and exercise. I would love dog school! Check out my training video! I really do like my human time and I enjoy lying next to you or playing tug. In the mornings after my potty break I do like to snuggle next to you for belly rubs.   I am looking for an active family to play with and that will continue my training. I will do best in a home with humans that will set fair firm boundries for me as I'm no pushover. I also would enjoy a dog sibling with a simmilar play style. An older dog may find me to be a bit much.  I'll be waiting with my foster family in Benecia. I hope to meet you! Puppies this age cannot be left for more than a couple of hours at a time. I’m an 11 month old sweet-tempered young boy. Those that know me say I am just "the sweetest boy ever".  Things I like to do:  Take walks!! I love to walk in the park and soak in all the new smells!  I would be a great hiking buddy and I'm a take anywhere kind of guy. I'm pretty good on leash but need a little trainng on some leash reactivity. I can pull hard sometimes, especially when I see something I really want to check out, but I do much better on a front clip harness or a head halter. More leash training please!!! I’m great in the car and usually just go to sleep for the ride. I haven't been car sick, I don't bark and carry on but will help myself to any goodies that may be riding with me in the back. Snacks are too tempting..... I can entertain myself by playing with toys if the humans are busy. I like balls, sticks and stuffy toys (especially hedgehogs!).  I really LOVE to play in water and think the hose monster is so much fun. I have nice house manners and I do like to play with other dogs.  I am kind of a big chicken sometimes and will try to bluff by barking but once we start to play I have a good time. The big world is still new to me and every once in a while I need a few minutes to check something out that might have startled me but I recover quickly. I'm very treat motivated (I mean really, who isn't) and just want to please my people. I am a sweet, sensitive puppy boy and will bond hard to my family (I AM a GSD after all).  Like all of us GSDs, I would benefit from training with you (but only positive training please). We could have so much fun learning and I know you would realize just what a special boy I am. Oh, one thing I do have to tell you about myself, I kind of like to chase strange kitties. I know it's not very nice, and I have lived with cats before, but I just couldn't help myself. It's best if there are no cats around me. So, now you know everything. If you want to meet me, I'm hanging out in Santa Rosa for a bit and can't wait to start my new life.  You like this dog...now what? ADOPTED 8/10/23 Sponsor Harley by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Harley's sponsor and your donation will help pay for nutritious food and supplements and medical expenses. Harley thanks you! Beautiful Harley needs a very special family as he now finds himself back at the shelter and shutting down. He's just sitting in his kennel surrounded by his toys (a couple of worn out soccer balls and one stuffy), often holding them in his mouth. He wants to be with his family and he's just watching for someone familiar to come by. He had a very caring home and was a great family dog but being here again has broken him. There is a lot of info from his former owner that describes all his great attributes but despite what he was in his former home, he's giving up and has trouble engaging with people. He allows all handling without issue but he refrains from interaction with anyone (walks away) until he forms a bond - which takes a little time.  One of the volunteers who befriended him has taken him to the river, gone through a drive up window to get him a puppuccino and tried to spend as much time as he can with Harley, who now considers him as part of his very small circle of friends. What we know of Harley's story explains his current behavior as this isn't his first trip to this shelter. After being at the shelter for many months, he was adopted about a year and a half ago. He lived with his family for a year however six long months ago, he was surrendered back to the shelter for dog aggression. Harley went after the neighbor's small dog but we aren't really sure of all the circumstances. Although Harley is much larger, he did not seriously hurt the smaller dog, however this made it difficult for Harley to stay in his home and he was surrendered back to the same shelter he spent so much time at before. He has now been back at the shelter for over 6 months. That's a lot of shelter time for this boy and sadly, this wonderful, gentle sable Shepherd does not understand where his family is and why he's once again alone.  Harley is 6 1/2 years old with no health issues; he just terribly misses his people.  He's very, very gentle; one can take his precious toys, food or treats from him, bathe him, and handle him with no reactivity. This boy simply needs to be the only dog in the home.  What he is hoping to find is someone who doesn't need a dog social best friend that can offer him the security and love he so badly needs. Someone with patience while he learns that he once again has a home. He has shown that he can bond with people but he's been let down a few too many times. Please consider this sweet boy and give him a chance to once again know that he can be safe, loved and cared for.    Here is the link to Harley on their website: PetHarbor.com pet:PLCR.A305247 Our volunteers have met Harley and can also answer questions about him if you inquire via info@bayareagsr.org.  You like this dog...now what? ADOPTED 8/3/23 Sponsor Snapple by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Snapple's sponsor and your donation will help pay for nutritious food and supplements and medical expenses. Snapple thanks you! Snapple and Crackle These puppies are really great and calm puppies. Not destructive except maybe tree bark, they find it most satisfying. They are HUGE snuggle-bugs. They love to sleep on the sofa and they put their front paws on the sofa when they want to be lifted onto the sofa. When they wake up, they make a beeline for outside potty as they are still learning potty training but it's about 90% there. Like puppies, they have short bursts of playing with each other. They like to chase each other round and round, play bitey face and then collapse in a heap of puppies. They are used to the sounds of the shop vac, steam mop and vacuum. However, they find the broom to be too much fun and ends up chasing the broom. They are OK with being in a crate but prefer to be out; they protest for about 5 mins but will settle. Because they have been such good puppies, they have been sleeping loose in the room but in the morning, you will find them snuggled together in the open crate. Both puppies are cautious and will watch for any danger before venturing too far. They both have wonderful relationships with and feel very comfortable with the 5 resident dogs. These pups have a nice balance of not being too afraid, cautious and respectful of the bigger dogs. Crackle is more cautious, very gentle and sweet. Snapple is more adventurous of the two pups, and loves to play rough and tumble with her sister. Snapple also plays with the big dogs while Crackle decides to watch. They have a very hefty appetite for puppies and love to chew on a meaty bone to work those puppy teeth. As always, supervision needs to be given when puppies are chewing on bones and certainly not with other dogs that might have food protectiveness. They like raised beds with a soft cushion. They are also great sleepers. These puppies are being fostered in Newcastel. Puppies this age cannot be left for more than a couple of hours at a time. Sponsor Cosmo by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Cosmo's sponsor and your donation will help pay for nutritious food and supplements and medical expenses. Cosmo thanks you! Hi! I’m Cosmo and my friends call me Cos for short. My friends think I’m a mix of something big and a German Shepherd Dog and I'm about a year and a half. I’m tall, with long legs and body and I have party ears! I’m totally ready for my new fam as I was hanging out in the shelter for a while before my new friends sprung me. I’m a sweet, gentle boy. I do well on leash with just minimal pulling and I don’t bark or lunge at dogs passing by. I love to go in the car. I enjoy the sights out of the window and of course enjoy the destination. I can just chill if we sit for lunch or a visit with friends. I don’t have over the top energy. I enjoy leash walks and love to keep my nose to the ground to gather info about the world. I’m friendly enough and like meeting new people but I really focus on the folks I know. I’m good with other dogs and when I have gotten pushy with dog friends I pretty much zip it when the dogs let me know I should calm down. Something you should know about me is that cats don’t interest me and I prefer to not even look at them to tell you the truth. I’m looking for a safe, calm family. I may have had some rough handling in my past and really am looking for a gentle human to guide me and help me realize that it’s all love from here on out. I will do great with a family that will include me in most things. I will relax when left alone but I prefer to be with people, even if it's doing nothing at all. I don’t have a lot of experience with small kids but would likely do just fine with older, respectful children. I’ve been learning my basics and take treats gently. I also like visiting stores and was cooperative at the dog doc. I’m really looking forward to having my very own humans. If you’d like to meet me, I’ll be waiting in Santa Rosa.
