Adopted 8/14/2023 Sponsor Rica by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Rica's sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Rica thanks you! Hi! my name is Rica, I am a five month old social, friendly girl. I am confident and I would love a family that understands I am a true German Shepherd.  I do alert bark on new things to protect our house but once I understand what it is and you help with my curiosity, I will calm down.  I am fully crate trained and will sleep through the night. I am very proud of myself that I am fully potty trained, I sit and lay most of the time when told, and I am working on stay. I really enjoy going on walks and out to coffee shops. I am pretty good on the leash (need a little more work).  I will lay at your side at coffee shops if you give me a small treat from time to time, to reinforce that I am being a good girl; after all food is my weakness.    With my foster family I have had the opportunity to play with a 1 year old Dutch shepherd mix and we get along great, but we do play like GSDs. I have heard of these things called cats, but am unfamiliar with them. I will bark at other larger dogs, or any dog that shows aggression toward me just because I am a bit afraid; but if you introduce me slowly and I feel safe, I will come around and LOVE to play. It doesn't take me long at all. I'm young and look to my human to guide me. Continued socialization around other dogs is important for me and I'll need regular walks and exercise. I would love dog school! Check out my training video! I really do like my human time and I enjoy lying next to you or playing tug. In the mornings after my potty break I do like to snuggle next to you for belly rubs.   I am looking for an active family to play with and that will continue my training. I will do best in a home with humans that will set fair firm boundries for me as I'm no pushover. I also would enjoy a dog sibling with a simmilar play style. An older dog may find me to be a bit much.  I'll be waiting with my foster family in Benecia. I hope to meet you! Puppies this age cannot be left for more than a couple of hours at a time. Please only apply if you can be home with your puppy and have GSD/working breed puppy experience as an adult. You like this dog...now what? ADOPTED 8/12/23 Sponsor Rudy by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Rudy's sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Rudy thanks you! Hi! I’m Rudy. I’m an 11 month old sweet-tempered young boy. Those that know me say I am just "the sweetest boy ever".  Things I like to do:  Take walks!! I love to walk in the park and soak in all the new smells!  I would be a great hiking buddy and I'm a take anywhere kind of guy. I'm pretty good on leash but need a little trainng on some leash reactivity. I can pull hard sometimes, especially when I see something I really want to check out, but I do much better on a front clip harness or a head halter. More leash training please!!! I’m great in the car and usually just go to sleep for the ride. I haven't been car sick, I don't bark and carry on but will help myself to any goodies that may be riding with me in the back. Snacks are too tempting..... I can entertain myself by playing with toys if the humans are busy. I like balls, sticks and stuffy toys (especially hedgehogs!).  I really LOVE to play in water and think the hose monster is so much fun. I have nice house manners and I do like to play with other dogs.  I am kind of a big chicken sometimes and will try to bluff by barking but once we start to play I have a good time. The big world is still new to me and every once in a while I need a few minutes to check something out that might have startled me but I recover quickly. I'm very treat motivated (I mean really, who isn't) and just want to please my people. I am a sweet, sensitive puppy boy and will bond hard to my family (I AM a GSD after all).  Like all of us GSDs, I would benefit from training with you (but only positive training please). We could have so much fun learning and I know you would realize just what a special boy I am. Oh, one thing I do have to tell you about myself, I kind of like to chase strange kitties. I know it's not very nice, and I have lived with cats before, but I just couldn't help myself. It's best if there are no cats around me. So, now you know everything. If you want to meet me, I'm hanging out in Santa Rosa for a bit and can't wait to start my new life.  You like this dog...now what? ADOPTED 8/10/23 Sponsor Harley by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Harley's sponsor and your donation will help pay for nutritious food and supplements and medical expenses. Harley thanks you! Beautiful Harley needs a very special family as he now finds himself back at the shelter and shutting down. He's just sitting in his kennel surrounded by his toys (a couple of worn out soccer balls and one stuffy), often holding them in his mouth. He wants to be with his family and he's just watching for someone familiar to come by. He had a very caring home and was a great family dog but being here again has broken him. There is a lot of info from his former owner that describes all his great attributes but despite what he was in his former home, he's giving up and has trouble engaging with people. He allows all handling without issue but he refrains from interaction with anyone (walks away) until he forms a bond - which takes a little time.  One of the volunteers who befriended him has taken him to the river, gone through a drive up window to get him a puppuccino and tried to spend as much time as he can with Harley, who now considers him as part of his very small circle of friends. What we know of Harley's story explains his current behavior as this isn't his first trip to this shelter. After being at the shelter for many months, he was adopted about a year and a half ago. He lived with his family for a year however six long months ago, he was surrendered back to the shelter for dog aggression. Harley went after the neighbor's small dog but we aren't really sure of all the circumstances. Although Harley is much larger, he did not seriously hurt the smaller dog, however this made it difficult for Harley to stay in his home and he was surrendered back to the same shelter he spent so much time at before. He has now been back at the shelter for over 6 months. That's a lot of shelter time for this boy and sadly, this wonderful, gentle sable Shepherd does not understand where his family is and why he's once again alone.  Harley is 6 1/2 years old with no health issues; he just terribly misses his people.  He's very, very gentle; one can take his precious toys, food or treats from him, bathe him, and handle him with no reactivity. This boy simply needs to be the only dog in the home.  What he is hoping to find is someone who doesn't need a dog social best friend that can offer him the security and love he so badly needs. Someone with patience while he learns that he once again has a home. He has shown that he can bond with people but he's been let down a few too many times. Please consider this sweet boy and give him a chance to once again know that he can be safe, loved and cared for.    Here is the link to Harley on their website: PetHarbor.com pet:PLCR.A305247 Our volunteers have met Harley and can also answer questions about him if you inquire via info@bayareagsr.org.  You like this dog...now what? ADOPTED 8/3/23 Sponsor Snapple by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Snapple's sponsor and your donation will help pay for nutritious food and supplements and medical expenses. Snapple thanks you! Snapple and Crackle These puppies are really great and calm puppies. Not destructive except maybe tree bark, they find it most satisfying. They are HUGE snuggle-bugs. They love to sleep on the sofa and they put their front paws on the sofa when they want to be lifted onto the sofa. When they wake up, they make a beeline for outside potty as they are still learning potty training but it's about 90% there. Like puppies, they have short bursts of playing with each other. They like to chase each other round and round, play bitey face and then collapse in a heap of puppies. They are used to the sounds of the shop vac, steam mop and vacuum. However, they find the broom to be too much fun and ends up chasing the broom. They are OK with being in a crate but prefer to be out; they protest for about 5 mins but will settle. Because they have been such good puppies, they have been sleeping loose in the room but in the morning, you will find them snuggled together in the open crate. Both puppies are cautious and will watch for any danger before venturing too far. They both have wonderful relationships with and feel very comfortable with the 5 resident dogs. These pups have a nice balance of not being too afraid, cautious and respectful of the bigger dogs. Crackle is more cautious, very gentle and sweet. Snapple is more adventurous of the two pups, and loves to play rough and tumble with her sister. Snapple also plays with the big dogs while Crackle decides to watch. They have a very hefty appetite for puppies and love to chew on a meaty bone to work those puppy teeth. As always, supervision needs to be given when puppies are chewing on bones and certainly not with other dogs that might have food protectiveness. They like raised beds with a soft cushion. They are also great sleepers. These puppies are being fostered in Newcastel. Puppies this age cannot be left for more than a couple of hours at a time. I’m Cosmo and my friends call me Cos for short. My friends think I’m a mix of something big and a German Shepherd Dog and I'm about a year and a half. I’m tall, with long legs and body and I have party ears! I’m totally ready for my new fam as I was hanging out in the shelter for a while before my new friends sprung me. I’m a sweet, gentle boy. I do well on leash with just minimal pulling and I don’t bark or lunge at dogs passing by. I love to go in the car. I enjoy the sights out of the window and of course enjoy the destination. I can just chill if we sit for lunch or a visit with friends. I don’t have over the top energy. I enjoy leash walks and love to keep my nose to the ground to gather info about the world. I’m friendly enough and like meeting new people but I really focus on the folks I know. I’m good with other dogs and when I have gotten pushy with dog friends I pretty much zip it when the dogs let me know I should calm down. Something you should know about me is that cats don’t interest me and I prefer to not even look at them to tell you the truth. I’m looking for a safe, calm family. I may have had some rough handling in my past and really am looking for a gentle human to guide me and help me realize that it’s all love from here on out. I will do great with a family that will include me in most things. I will relax when left alone but I prefer to be with people, even if it's doing nothing at all. I don’t have a lot of experience with small kids but would likely do just fine with older, respectful children. I’ve been learning my basics and take treats gently. I also like visiting stores and was cooperative at the dog doc. I’m really looking forward to having my very own humans. If you’d like to meet me, I’ll be waiting in Santa Rosa. I’m Champ. I’m an 8 and month old puppy. I’m a smart, fun, playful boy. I can be initially shy but am very affectionate when I get comfortable. I’ll love all the hugs and pets I can get. Socialization will be important for me so that I will continue to be comfortable in new situations. I am learning the house rules especially the difference between toys and household items like towels and rugs. Typical puppy! I don’t mind a crate and sleep comfortably in one through the night. I really enjoy my daily walks and am good on leash too. I love balls and chew toys! I’m energetic while playing but also love my naps next to my foster parents and foster dog brother. I could either be an only dog or I would be really happy to have my very own dog sibling. I enjoy playing and also just hanging out with another dog and I am very respectful with my foster dog brother. I may be cat workable. I am a very good listener and am eager to please. I’m Kai. I’m a sweet and affectionate 7 month old puppy girl. I’m a bit shy and wary around new people and other dogs but very sound environmentally - loud outdoor sounds don’t bother me. I still need to learn to trust but once I get to know you, I will be your best friend and stick to you like glue. I’m good with playful dogs and am learning how to play with them. Needless to say, I’ll need an adopter who is committed to continuing my socialization with people and other dogs. Group training would be great for me! I'm pretty good on a leash but may pull occasionally. If another dog barks at me, I may sass back but I'm a friendly girl and like to play. Sometimes I’ll jump right in the car but sometimes I need some encouragement but I'm happy to go out for adventures. My new friends say that I will need an adopter who understands that I missed out on important socialization during a critical time in my young life. I’ll need lots of socialization with people and may need time to adjust to strangers coming into the home (maybe not). My new family will have to make sure that I continue to gain confidence and that I don’t get upset if I am left alone as I will bond HARD. I’ve come a long way and can’t wait to settle in with my very own family. I’ll be waiting in Santa Rosa. You like this dog...now what? ADOPTED 6/15/2023 Sponsor Nina by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Nina's sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Nina thanks you! My name is Nina!  You may remember me as I've been here before but decided to take a small vacation while I lost a bit of weight and got back into shape. I still have a bit to go but got a squeaky clean bill of health from the Doc yesterday - I am in perfect health for a 7 year old girl GSD. I currently weigh about 90 lbs (I'm working on it). I am SUPER people friendly and will seek out attention from humans whether I know them or not. I love everyone I meet so invite the neighbors over, have the kids over, grandma and grandpa, you name it.   OK, so now that you know how wonderfully friendly I am, I have to confess one tiny little thing - I NEED TO BE THE ONLY CRITTER IN THE HOME. No joke, I don't want to live with other animals. I'm OK 'around' them but I do not want to come in contact with anything but my humans. I can be leash reactive but with my trusted human backing me up, I can get past it and 'walk on'. I am very comfy with a head halter and try very hard to mind my manners. I am easy to redirect with treats BUT, treats are off the table (literally) right now while I trim up. I am doing quite well walking in busy areas with lots of dogs and people and doing ok. I do like to walk and smell all the glorious scents so I don't want to be a shut in, you just need to keep me on track with my manners.  I allow all over handling including the dog doc where I just heard them say "She is the SWEETEST girl" -  can dogs blush???  Needless to say, I’m fine with brushing and bathing and all that stuff. I love to play ball and many of my friends describe me as goofy, smart, loyal and sweet. What a combination! OH YEAH, I LOVE car rides. I know it's not all that much exercise but it's SOOOOO much fun and I do behave in the car.  I love to go in the car.  So now you know my goods, bads, and uglies. I MUST live with a family that understands my issues with other animals, but that I am a sweet gentle girl. I will make a wonderful companion for someone who doesn’t need a dog social dog and only has time to devote to one animal - ME.  If you’re looking for a playful, outgoing, engaging, girl, maybe we can meet! Attie thanks you! Attie wants to thank Kathryn R for sponsoring him and helping him heal. He's such a sweet boy and we're sure he would give kisses to Kathryn if he could! Hi! I’m Attie! I’m a 4 year old sweet, friendly boy with a trim, fit physique.     My skin is healing from a condition called flea allergy dermatitis. My new friends got me some healthy food and nutritional supplements and my skin is on the mend! My foster mom actually says I am the most friendly and eager to please German Shepherd Dog that she’s ever met. I’m so flattered but I’m just being myself! I do whatever she asks of me without complaining. When my skin was really bad, she would ask me to stop scratching, and I would. Yep-I’m that good! I have beautiful house manners and sleep free in the house. I did get on the couch one night but my foster mom asked me to get off and I did. If my new family lets me snuggle on the couch or bed, that would be great. If I have my own beds that’s fine too. I do love cuddles though and adore attention and affection.   I’m not very vocal and don’t bark much. I do, however, like to howl at sirens! I am very tuned in to my humans and will respect their wishes. Just let me know what’s expected and I’m happy to oblige. I will constantly look at my humans for direction and I have an easy-going demeanor for sure. I also have a joyful, playful spirit.  A favorite pastime for me is playing ball. I’ll bring the ball back to you for you to throw it again and again and…..again. I like squeaky toys too. I am respectful with and enjoy the company of other dogs. Consistent with my personality, I enjoy playing with them and hanging out with them. I have also lived peacefully with a cat.  I would be a great pal to take out and about! I love to ride in the car and I walk nicely on leash too. I’m so grateful to my new friends at BAGSR for getting me to a much better place and can’t wait to find my very own family. I’ll be waiting with my foster family in San Jose. You like this dog...now what? Joey is a courtesy post who is looking for a new home. He is 2 and a half years old. Here is some heartfelt information about Joey from his owner. I have been the lucky person who has owned Joey for about 2 years. I am 81. I fell and broke my hip and my doctor is advising me to rehome my beloved buddy and best friend Joey. I have owned and loved dogs all my life, mostly shepherds because they are so loyal, intelligent and loving. Joey has exceeded every wonderful dog I have ever owned - exceeded in the love he gives out ( to everyone especially me), exceeded  in the love he wants in return. Always at my side, always next to me with me. I take him wherever I go. If he can’t come with me then he waits in the car, if it is too warm he waits in his kennel at home. He just wants to be with me that is his one desire in life- to be with the person or persons that love him. He exceeds expectations in his intelligence. When my iphone rings in another room, Joey comes to tell me by going back and forth between me and my phone. If someone is at my door or outside, again Joey comes to let me know.  He does not bark unless something doesn’t seem right to him. There was a PGE man roaming around my yard one day after a storm and believe me Joey alerted me. He has been boarded once with dogs, he goes for walks with dogs, he has spent lots of time with my son and daughter’s army of little growling, barking feisty/ cute labradoodles that try to annoy the heck out of him , but being the proud and noble German shepherd that he always is, he just ignores them until they calm down. When guests or repair people visit - Joey is happy to see them and friendly and sweet to them always. He has played with my grand kids and been happy with other children he meets as well. At night, he watches TV with me on my bed. If it is a program with lots of loud commotion, the hair on his neck goes up, he moves closer to the TV until he figures it’s nothing to worry about, then returns to my side. He stretches out on his back on the bed and looks at me upside done with his sweet loving eyes. He sleeps in his kennel next yo my bed throughout the night. I never shut the kennel door at night, but he never comes out till he hears me say good morning. He loves to go for walks. This dog has been a gift and a treasure to me.   Joey will be waiting in Carmel. You like this dog...now what? My name is Riggs. I’m a 13 month old pup and every time someone describes me, the word “silly” always comes up! I’m on the smaller side and weigh about 50 pounds-I might get to about 60 tops. I sort of look like a GSD but no one knows really what my breed is. I’m really people friendly, sweet and affectionate. I LOVE being pet and cuddled and will curl up in your lap and watch the world go by. I also enjoy going out and about and I ride nicely in the car too. I’m pretty good on leash and I am polite when meeting new people. I like everybody!! I enjoy playing with other dogs but I need to be managed because I can get amped up and be irritating to some dogs. Sometimes I won’t take no for an answer and will push back if a dog tries to correct my bossy behavior. I will do best with playful, happy dogs that aren't too grumpy. I kind of grew up in the shelter so I'm learning........ I am really a silly boy and can even do somersaults. I like to turn my bed over and sleep underneath it just for fun. Maybe some trick training is in my future? I do like stuffie toys and will entertain myself by tossing them around and chasing them. Fun stuff! Like most of us dogs, I need some training but I'm willing to work on being a good boy. I’m bouncy, cheerful, and goofy and am always looking to turn all of my adventures into a great time.  I am F-U-N! I hope you want to meet me! I’ll be waiting in Santa Rosa and I can’t wait to be somebody’s dog! You like this dog...now what? Sponsor Boo by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Boo's sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Boo thanks you! Boo is a super friendly, super confident young fellow; just a year and a half old.  He gets along with all polite dogs of any size and seems quite comfortable with all children - however he is a leaner! Your child should expect to get bumped into! Boo loves exploring new stores, new anything and will make a great companion for anyone wanting a go anywhere, do anything dog - he's always up for an adventure and absolutely loves car rides; just hops in and lays down.  Boo will play with another dog and loves a good game of wrestling with him/her but definitely prefers his humans to other dogs.  He's very helpful on his foster mom's property, politely supervising her when doing yard work without being a pesty fellow. He's crate trained, house trained and isn't destructive of anything other than an occasional stuffed toy that falls victim to boredom. He has the fastest "sit" in the West - maybe anywhere and is very proud to show off his lightening fast "Boo, Sit" request! He's a white shepherd that currently has a lovely red tinge thanks to the couple of acres of red dirt mixed with some grass at his foster mom's place. He does clean up nicely and doesn't mind baths at all - thankfully! Boo will make someone a very special companion if they're looking for a dog with an explorer’s/adventurer’s heart. Boo will be waiting in Auburn. You like this dog...now what? I’m a 6 month old girl German Shepherd Dog (GSD). My new friends say that I'm a very sweet puppy. Not sure if you noticed, but I’m quite stocky and solid. I already do really well on leash and will stay right next to you. Admittedly, this is due to a little bit of insecurity when out and about and I’ll need confidence building and lots of exposure to the world in general. I allow all over handling and am super friendly with people. I’m good with other dogs once I meet them; I can be a bit barky at first. I’m a smart girl and my new family should get me started with socialization and training right away. Group training would be perfect for me. I like treats and take them gently. I ride nicely in the car but getting in and out is still new to me. I am sure to bond quickly to my new family and can’t wait to get settled into my very own home. I’ll be waiting with my foster family in Fairrfax. Hope to meet you! You like this dog...now what?
