He and his human fellow have lived together for nearly three years enjoying each other's company, playing together, going on long walks in the neighborhood, going to the beach and most significantly, training and learning together. Now, life has made a sudden U-turn and Hugo's fellow is no longer able to give Hugo the home he needs. This is where you come in. Hugo is a sensitive soul and needs a partner who is equally sensitive to his needs. He is 100% German Shepherd and for those of you with Shepherd love/experience, that means you understand some of his personality qualities that sometimes get tricky: he is protective, loyal and environmentally aware. Underneath his regal and majestic appearance, there is still a young dog who needs to trust his person and when he does, he is a delightful companion. He loves to play, loves to ride in the car, loves long walks, playing at the beach and digging in the sand. He loves attention and affection (pets, scritches and belly rubs, but no hugs, please). He thrives on training and will bond quickly with his person if consistency and predictability are combined with treats, toys, and play. With the right care and attention, he has the potential to be an amazing partner! He is a natural protector and guard dog (as noted above) with a keen preference and trust in female humans. (He sometimes needs to take his time with males.) He is healthy, fit and athletic. He is fully crate-trained and enjoys his crate as his safe space. Lorrie Eval Notes: When I initially met Boston, he was in a dog park with at least 40 dogs of all sizes running around. He was following other dogs and sniffing the park. Boston's owner and I took him out of the park so I could evaluate him with less distractions. There were dozens of dogs on leash coming and going into this very busy dog park. Boston was distracted, but I was able to touch him all over his body, check his teeth, ears and feet. He was not bothered by my touching. It took him awhile to interact with me, but he was by the end of our visit. He was looking at the other dogs, but did not have any reaction. The only reaction he had was when a lady with three Aussies walked by. He barked at the dogs, but stopped when his owner said "leave it". Out of at least 60 dogs, those were the only dogs at which he barked. His owner said that once in awhile he does bark at leashed dogs. He has never attacked or been aggressive with another dog. In fact, his owner said there have been times when dogs have gone after him at the dog park and he will hide under a bench or behind his owner. Boston knows sit and stay and will come when called by his owner. He is housebroken and often stays home alone for over 12 hours and never has accidents. He also is not destructive in the house. He lived with another dog and three cats. He and the cats often sleep together and Boston will lick/clean the cats. He lived with a 13 year old girl. He is good with all people. Boston's owner often had him off leash and he had good recall, even with distractions. Boston did not jump up on me at all. His owner said he rarely barks. I found Boston to be all really nice dog with a solid temperament. He has basics in place and seems to be good with all things, although can have occasional leash reactivity. His owner said even though he can be occasionally leash reactive, he has never been aggressive with a dog and will often lick another dog that he has just barked at. Foster Notes: Boston is a sweet and friendly dog with a good disposition. He likes people and greets everyone affectionately. He enjoys snuggling on the couch and being close to his foster family, especially the dad. Boston listens well and is eager to please. He is fully housebroken and knows a few commands such as sit, stay and come. Boston is energetic and loves to take walks. He does well on and off leash, once he and his people have bonded which doesn't take long. He loves fast and hard. He plays well with other cats and dogs. He enjoys playing with his squeaky toys. Boston has a deep and loud bark he uses when people approach the front door but is otherwise quiet. He is healthy, strong and will make a wonderful pet for adults or a family. He is very handsome with a beautiful coat. Boston was very connected with his original owner. The transition to leaving his home was not easy for him. He is a typical GSD and is extremely loyal to his person. He will need and we desire for him to have a person that will be committed to him forever and wants to have him be a huge part of their life. He would do best with someone home a lot. He seems to very drawn to men, but will connect to his person hard and fast. Boston is an exceptional dog. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt him will have a fantastic best friend. Oh...Boston can open lever door handles so his new owner needs to keep that in mind. show less

I’m Samson-my friends call me “Sam” for short. I’m an affectionate, playful 2 year old boy. I’m a terrific size at about 65 pounds. I love my humans and stay close when I’m out and about. I have great leash manners too. Sometimes I like to grab my leash to play tug and I can be a bit mouthy but it’s all in fun. I know some people don’t like that much and it’s really not very polite so I’ll need an adopter who will continue to remind me that big GSD teefers can scare some people. I do great with other dogs and like to play with them or just hang out. I love to get out and do things, I behave nicely in the car and am polite with new friends-dogs and humans, when I go to new places. I’m not bothered by new sights or sounds and am comfortable in new situations. I have nice house manners, am quiet and I like to sleep on the bed with my human. I’m a fun, take anywhere guy and would make a great traveling buddy. Because I’m still learning that I shouldn’t be so mouthy, I would do best in an adult only home or one with older kids-maybe 12 years and up. Nemo thanks you! NEMO. Yes, that’s my real name, more like “Captain Nemo”…than the fish, I’m commanding, and I’m not lost..at least not anymore. I’m currently live with two bozos in Livermore, not the people, giant German Shepherds who, to be honest need my protection…they are old and slow, and don’t know how to bite. (Just don’t tell them I said so.) As an active 4-month old with lots of energy I’m seeking a home with someone who I can be with as much as possible (I mean like your shadow) who is also active and will take me on adventures, someone rough and tumbly, with German Shepherd experience, that understands rough play, and my needs (I am getting my adult teeth and chewing feels great, so l need lots of toys. After work, I like to walk, have a good meal, and to snuggle on the couch so I can fall asleep with my person watching over me. I walk nicely on a freedom harness, love meeting and playing with other dogs. I sleep on a pad at the foot of the bed, and I’ll let you know if…you know..I need to go potty. I know where, and I use the dog door all by myself, but I prefer if you go with me. I’m a gentle boy, and I’m learning that some things get me treats, like sitting and watching, coming when called (though I’m usually close and check-in anyway, so this is like a freebie), and that “ak!” means I need to stop what I’m doing, and then I get pets for stopping!..another win! I don’t know about cats, and I’m wary of rodents and loud things. I have seen kids, but haven't met any but they sure look like fun. I like crates, but I don’t like to be left alone or closed in one; I have hair trigger sensitivity to sounds and need to be free to investigate and alert my person. Little Rudy was a bit behind his siblings when he arrived at his foster home, and we think he may have been stepped on his overly exuberant young mama?? The vet couldn’t find any lingering injuries, so we suspect just a bruising, but he needed some coaxing to get back to eating and drinking. That is how we discovered his love of scones when he discovered a scone on the counter (yes he was being fed on the counter) and finally decided to start eating again! After a few days of special feedings, he is now eating puppy food with the rest and fully participating in playing and wrestling with his bigger siblings! He has a super sweet, loving and fearless personality and will no doubt catch up to his siblings size very soon! Rudolph is waiting with his foster mom in Healdsburg. Hi! I’m Sierra. I’m a healthy six year old girl looking for a new home. I’m on the smaller side at about 56 pounds. I’m very friendly and will lean into you for affection. I allow all over handling and I know quite a few basic obedience skills. With proper introductions, I meet other dogs nicely. I’ve also lived in harmony with cats and livestock. I have been around kids and do great. I like to go in the car but get amped up when motorcycles, other cars etc go by. For everyone’s sanity, I may need to travel in a crate until I get used to being polite when fast moving objects go by. I really like a crate to sleep in at home too. I walk nicely on leash and like to say hello to new friends along the way. I will be a fun girl to take out and about. At home, I can be kept busy with toys and bones. Evaluation Notes: LM - I evaluated Sierra at my home in Granite Bay. We met originally in the street in front of my house. Sierra greeted me happily with no reservations. She is definately very connected to her owner, Robert, but she was open to me and later leaned against me. We then went into the backyard so I could continue my evaluation. After several minutes of letting Sierra sniff around, I called her to me. I was able to touch Sierra all over her body with no issues. Sierra is healthy and well cared for, although a few pounds overweight. Her ears seemed clean and her teeth were normal for her age with just a little tarter. Her gate seemed normal and her coat healthy. I also introduced her to my Golden, Aspen. The introduction was easy. After just a few minutes, she seemed to ignore Aspen. I then introducted her to my GSD, Hank. She had the same reaction to Hank. She was slightly intersted in Hank, but then moved on after a short period of time. She as a little nervous the entire time and was mostly interested in her owners. Her owners are very technical with Sierra. They have high expectations of her having to be the perfectly obedient dog at all times and anything outside of calm a perfect seemed to be unacceptable to them. I felt like they expected her to be a robot. Sierra knows her basic obedience and is a very well behaved dog. They don't play with her. In fact, I asked them to send me a video of her playing and having fun and they sent me a video of her executing her commands. When I expressed I'd like to see a silly and fun video and that never was sent to me. I took Sierra for a walk. She pulled a little on the leash, but nothing horrible and stopped pulling after a short period of time. We passed another dog and she looked but didn't react. Sierra is a really nice and easy dog. I think she needs someone that will teach her how to play and receive affection. I think her owners like her, but they don't seem bonded to her. I look foward to Sierra having someone love her and let her be a dog. You like this dog...now what? I love balls and toys, chasing squirrels and birds and I love to use my nose and tongue for everything from affection to communication. If my foster family is hanging out either inside the house or out in the garden, I’ll pal around with them wherever they are. I am also fine in a crate. I am friendly with other dogs and enjoy playing with them. Sometimes I’ll bark at passing dogs when I’m out for a leash walk. However, if my human reminds me to use my manners, I will oblige. I’ve been known to antagonize cats on my neighborhood walks and have a medium prey high prey drive so I would need to look to you for instruction! I can be reminded to pay attention to my human. While I'm basically a friendly boy (99% of the time), I will need my new family to help guide me on making the right choices when meeting strangers. I'm a GSD through-and-through and if my person doesn't 'take control' I will step in and step up….and I don't always make the right decision. Let's be honest, every once in a while I bark at people when I'm unsure of them but if I'm given the right instructions by my person, I get over it. I also sometimes will jump up on people so....yeah...another thing I need practice with is remembering NOT to do it. I am getting really good in remembering that. I have been working with a trainer and have been absolutely perfect during these sessions (he knows us GSDs). I also now am a stellar student in group training! I love group training. I do so well and I like meeting other dogs. Continued training for me and my new family is a must. We all must understand our roles-ie-“My humans are the leaders; not me.” I need to work on impulse control too. Sometimes I don’t think and decide to jump up on someone. Foster Mom says Huck has strong legs and it hurts! He's doing really with remembering not to jump up in excitement. I’m affectionate and engaging with most humans and do especially great with humans who understand us GSDs. I'm not a couch potato type and I really need to get in my daily exercise and socialization. I love playing with other dogs, large or small, and I really like walking. I'm not a wild child and will settle by your side and chill when asked to. I am quite well behaved in the house and don’t get into things that aren’t mine. I LOVE belly rubs and being brushed. SNUGGLES are my favorite thing to do. Also, I am allowed to sleep on beds and I don't move much at all. In fact, I sleep very soundly and like to take my time getting up in the morning. I walk well with a halti and don't pull much anymore. thanks to my ongoing training. I also use a front clip harness. I don't bark or carry on at other dogs and I think car rides are the BOMB. I can barely wait to jump in and GO. I'm great when my foster fam takes me out for breakfast. I lay quietly under the table until they are done. I've seen a few cats and I'm not quite sure if I want to chase them or say hi. I may be a little overwhelming for scaredy-cats. I do like the little humans but because I can be a little reactive to new people at times and kids have lots of new friends, it's best I'm in an adult only home. I'm also protective of my home and will definitely warn you if someone tries to come to the front door. If you have a little patience and don't mind helping me figure some things out, I won't disappoint you. I'm a really good boy and super handsome and my friends say that I am a terrific and loving companion. I would actually be lots of fun for someone who understands me and will work with me to be the best that I can be. I'll be learning some new things with my foster family in Newcastle if you would like to meet me. Oh, I have been told I sound like Chewbacca talking but that is only when I get excited. Latest update from his foster mom: He absolutely loves to go out in the car. He loves people but his handler needs to be on the ball with inappropriate dogs and people.
