Sponsor Joey by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Joey's sponsor and your donation will help pay for nutritious food and supplements and medical expenses. Joey thanks you! Joey is a courtesy post who is looking for a new home. He is 2 and a half years old. Here is some heartfelt information about Joey from his owner. I have been the lucky person who has owned Joey for about 2 years. I am 81. I fell and broke my hip and my doctor is advising me to rehome my beloved buddy and best friend Joey. I have owned and loved dogs all my life, mostly shepherds because they are so loyal, intelligent and loving. Joey has exceeded every wonderful dog I have ever owned - exceeded in the love he gives out ( to everyone especially me), exceeded  in the love he wants in return. Always at my side, always next to me with me. I take him wherever I go. If he can’t come with me then he waits in the car, if it is too warm he waits in his kennel at home. He just wants to be with me that is his one desire in life- to be with the person or persons that love him. He exceeds expectations in his intelligence. When my iphone rings in another room, Joey comes to tell me by going back and forth between me and my phone. If someone is at my door or outside, again Joey comes to let me know.  He does not bark unless something doesn’t seem right to him. There was a PGE man roaming around my yard one day after a storm and believe me Joey alerted me. He has been boarded once with dogs, he goes for walks with dogs, he has spent lots of time with my son and daughter’s army of little growling, barking feisty/ cute labradoodles that try to annoy the heck out of him , but being the proud and noble German shepherd that he always is, he just ignores them until they calm down. When guests or repair people visit - Joey is happy to see them and friendly and sweet to them always. He has played with my grand kids and been happy with other children he meets as well. At night, he watches TV with me on my bed. If it is a program with lots of loud commotion, the hair on his neck goes up, he moves closer to the TV until he figures it’s nothing to worry about, then returns to my side. He stretches out on his back on the bed and looks at me upside done with his sweet loving eyes. He sleeps in his kennel next yo my bed throughout the night. I never shut the kennel door at night, but he never comes out till he hears me say good morning. He loves to go for walks. This dog has been a gift and a treasure to me.   Joey will be waiting in Carmel. You like this dog...now what? My name is Riggs. I’m a 13 month old pup and every time someone describes me, the word “silly” always comes up! I’m on the smaller side and weigh about 50 pounds-I might get to about 60 tops. I sort of look like a GSD but no one knows really what my breed is. I’m really people friendly, sweet and affectionate. I LOVE being pet and cuddled and will curl up in your lap and watch the world go by. I also enjoy going out and about and I ride nicely in the car too. I’m pretty good on leash and I am polite when meeting new people. I like everybody!! I enjoy playing with other dogs but I need to be managed because I can get amped up and be irritating to some dogs. Sometimes I won’t take no for an answer and will push back if a dog tries to correct my bossy behavior. I will do best with playful, happy dogs that aren't too grumpy. I kind of grew up in the shelter so I'm learning........ I am really a silly boy and can even do somersaults. I like to turn my bed over and sleep underneath it just for fun. Maybe some trick training is in my future? I do like stuffie toys and will entertain myself by tossing them around and chasing them. Fun stuff! Like most of us dogs, I need some training but I'm willing to work on being a good boy. I’m bouncy, cheerful, and goofy and am always looking to turn all of my adventures into a great time.  I am F-U-N! I hope you want to meet me! I’ll be waiting in Santa Rosa and I can’t wait to be somebody’s dog! You like this dog...now what? Boo is a super friendly, super confident young fellow; just a year and a half old.  He gets along with all polite dogs of any size and seems quite comfortable with all children - however he is a leaner! Your child should expect to get bumped into! Boo loves exploring new stores, new anything and will make a great companion for anyone wanting a go anywhere, do anything dog - he's always up for an adventure and absolutely loves car rides; just hops in and lays down.  Boo will play with another dog and loves a good game of wrestling with him/her but definitely prefers his humans to other dogs.  He's very helpful on his foster mom's property, politely supervising her when doing yard work without being a pesty fellow. He's crate trained, house trained and isn't destructive of anything other than an occasional stuffed toy that falls victim to boredom. He has the fastest "sit" in the West - maybe anywhere and is very proud to show off his lightening fast "Boo, Sit" request! He's a white shepherd that currently has a lovely red tinge thanks to the couple of acres of red dirt mixed with some grass at his foster mom's place. He does clean up nicely and doesn't mind baths at all - thankfully! Boo will make someone a very special companion if they're looking for a dog with an explorer’s/adventurer’s heart. Boo will be waiting in Auburn. You like this dog...now what? I’m a 6 month old girl German Shepherd Dog (GSD). My new friends say that I'm a very sweet puppy. Not sure if you noticed, but I’m quite stocky and solid. I already do really well on leash and will stay right next to you. Admittedly, this is due to a little bit of insecurity when out and about and I’ll need confidence building and lots of exposure to the world in general. I allow all over handling and am super friendly with people. I’m good with other dogs once I meet them; I can be a bit barky at first. I’m a smart girl and my new family should get me started with socialization and training right away. Group training would be perfect for me. I like treats and take them gently. I ride nicely in the car but getting in and out is still new to me. I am sure to bond quickly to my new family and can’t wait to get settled into my very own home. Hi! I’m Campbell. I’m a healthy, 2 year old boy. I’m still young and puppy like. In fact, I tend to jump up and get excited when meeting new people. All in good fun but….I need someone to remind me to use good manners. In true GSD fashion, I will alarm bark when someone comes to the house. I get along with other dogs and enjoy rough and tumble play. I do take cues from other dogs when they ask me to simmer down. I’m good with little dogs too and even am more gentle with them. I love toys, puzzles and bones and enjoy a good game of fetch. I think walks are terrific too. I know some commands and am food motivated so will happily learn more! I have nice house manners and know how to use a dog door. I’m pretty funny and I know it and love to make people laugh! I still do silly puppy things like untie shoes and herd people down the hallway. I am fine if left alone and know how to use a dog door. I ride nicely in the car but sometimes I get an upset stomach on winding roads. If you’re looking for a great pal, I just may be your boy. I’ll be waiting in Santa Rosa. Hope to meet you! I’m a 6 month old girl German Shepherd Dog (GSD). I'm friendly, easy going and eager to please. My new friends say that I’m affiliative and seek lots of attention from the humans around me. I'm  not shy but at the same time, more confidence will come in time with the right socialization too. Typical puppy! I prefer to be close and love to be pet and loved on. I definitely need socialization because I didn’t have an opportunity to see lots of different things where I used to live. I’ll need practice being around other dogs and seeing new sights. Dog school would be great for me too! I’m big boned and sturdy and have a plush coat. My new friends say that I’ll need an adopter who has experience with us herding/working breeds and is equipped to provide me with everything I need to grow up to be the best that I can be. Something you should know about me is that I love to use my nose. I’ll hunt for treats and find every single one! I also really like to play with toys and epecially enjoy the toys that squeak. I’m getting used to a collar and leash and sometimes forget that my person is the one who should be holding the end of the leash-not me :-). I'm very good in the house for a girl my age and I already know to go potty outside. In true GSD fasion, I will alarm bark when I hear something unfamiliar.  I am also bright and inquisitive and need to get started on my training as soon as possible. I am curious and my foster family says that I am a quick learner. I can’t wait to find my very own family! If you’d like to meet me, I’ll be waiting with my foster family in San Jose. Hi! I’m Artie! I’m a friendly one year old boy. My friends think I look like a GSD with a touch of Husky but they don't really know for sure, maybe Swiss Shepherd? My foster family is working with me on the basics; I’m already getting the hang of things and am good on leash. I enjoy going for walks and am glad I have another dog at my foster home to play with. Something you should know about me is that I don't have a strong prey drive so may be fine with cats if we are properly introduced.  I have fun with bones, balls and squeaky toys too. I like to ride in the car! Continued socialization would be great for me so that I can experience new things and I’m sure I would love dog school. I do fine in a crate but my foster mom says I have very nice house manners and can be left free in the house without getting into any trouble. I absolutely love to snuggle up with you. Other people who have met me say I am so sweet, calm and connect well with people. If you’d like to meet me, I’ll be waiting with my foster family in San Francisco. Sponsor Artie by clicking here. Adopted 4/22/23 Hi! I’m Sheba. I’m a one and a half year old girl ready for my new home. I’m super friendly with people-all people whether I know them or not. I integrate nicely into dog groups and really enjoy playing with other dogs.  I walk nicely on leash and have lovely house manners. I’m young and strong and although I have been learning the things that all good dogs should know, I would love dog school and am a speedy learner. Since I am an energetic youngster, a home without young kids may be best for me; I wouldn’t want to knock anyone over! I love to play with other dogs but I tend to guard my people. I bond HARD with my human packmembers. Because I don't like other dogs around my people, I may do best in a home without other dogs. But I am super duper good with dogs in a group or walking together. I just want my own person because I have missed out on so much love. I also like to snuggle and if you allow me, I would like to share your bed.  I allow all over handling and as evidenced by the photos, I obviously enjoy a nice bath.   I am a pleaser and really want to do what my people want. I will be a joy to work with and train. I’ll do best with someone who has some experience working with exuberant dogs like me. After a fun day, I really enjoy relaxation with my people. My foster mom says I have a fun personality and I sometimes even want to be a lapdog.  I hope we can meet!. I’ll be waiting in Newcastle. Sponsor Sheba by clicking here. ADOPTED 4/22/23 My name is Jax! I’m a sweet, healthy, young boy that will make a great companion and family dog. I’m about 1 year old and weigh 50-55 pounds. I love people and will approach all with ease and a wiggly, waggly tail. My friends say that I’m ready for my very own family.  I’ll need an adopter who will take me to obedience school cause I have lots to learn. Like all of us GSD youngsters, I’m sure to love learning and will be a terrific student. I already walk nicely on a front clip harness, but I do still jump up to say hi. Because of this, I should probably live in a home without little kids. I do really like kids though. I also enjoy other dogs and will generally back off from a more confident dog. I haven’t had experience with cats. So far, I’m just mildly interested in balls and toys. I allow all over handling and just love attention. I hope we can meet. Adopted 04/06/2023 Livvy was found wandering the railroad tracks in Stockton alone at about one month old. Soon after being rescued, she was treated for Parvovirus, nursed back to health, and is now perhaps the cutest puppy ever. Seriously. The cutest. Livvy is just about 10 weeks now, weighing in at 16-ish lbs. The words “well behaved” and “puppy” rarely go together – except with Livvy! She is playful and loves her toys; she is also very aware of her surroundings and understands the most subtle of cues when she starts playing too rough with her humans. While appropriate oversight is still required, Livvy is house trained and rings a set of sleigh bells when she needs to go outside. She is very comfortable in her crate for sleeping and whenever she needs some self-soothing. Now, because she's so young, we wake her up during the night to go outside to go to the bathroom. She does her business, then comes right back inside and into her crate and back to sleep! Soon, she will sleep through the night. She also enjoys snuggling in bed with her humans. When you are ready to go outside, she is at the ready as well. We have taken her on several (short) hikes on the trails of Mount Tamalpais, where she enjoys exploring all that is new to her – including the water! She does well on a leash, knows "sit", and is developing excellent recall when entrusted off-leash. Just imagine the whole dimension of smells that she must experience! While keeping in mind Livvy is still very young, with continued training and a loving home, she will continue to blossom into everything you and your family would like in a canine companion Livvy will be waiting with her foster family in Larkspur. Puppies this young cannot be left for more than a couple of hours at a time. Please only apply if you can be home with your puppy and have GSD/working breed puppy experience as an adult. Adopted on 3/31/2023. Hello! My name is Max. I am about 6 years old and have a thick fluffy brown sable coat. I weigh about 95 lbs.  I’m definitely on the big side, but everyone I meet always tell me how handsome and nice they think I am. But I’m really a humble boy, so I never let it go to my head! I’m not a big runner but I do like to go for walks, and an occasional game of fetch too. Oh, and really, really love riding in the car!  During quiet times, I’m just as content to hang out, relax, and chew on a soft bone toy. So overall, I’m a pretty laid back dude!    I came into the rescue from the Placer County shelter. I ended up there because the family that owned me lived in an apartment and could not keep me. But now I’m ready to meet my forever family and give them all the love I have to offer.  And at my size, that is a LOT of love.   When I first got out of the shelter I was a little dog reactive.  So the rescue sent me to training and then my foster home family has worked with me to build confidence and learn how to relax around other dogs. I have really learned to enjoy time with my foster pack of 3 other German Shepherds.  So I would be happy if your family already has another dog or two.  But I’m much more of a “people dog” so I’ll always prefer being with my humans given the option.    Besides learning not to be reactive, I haven’t had a lot of formal training. But I’m really good with basic stuff like come, sit and stay. And I do pretty well on a leash whether walking by myself, or keeping up with my whole pack around.  I’m fully housebroken and will let you know when I need to go out for a potty break.  I am crate trained and enjoy having my quiet private time there.  My foster family even feeds me in my crate, which I really like.  I also like hanging out in the evenings on a dog bed if you’re relaxing or watching TV. If you work from home, don’t be surprised if you find me snoozing under your desk during the day. That’s just because I like to be close to my people whenever I can. Just don’t be surprised when I walk up to you and ask for a hug because I really love being hugged! If you’re looking for a big hearty guy who is handsome and smart, but also super sweet and laid back, check me out. If you think I could be a good fit for you and your family, let the nice people a BAGSR know and they will set up a meet and greet for you.  I’ll be waiting in Folsom. Vienna is a 2 year old sable German Shepherd. She is up to date on vaccines, is spayed and has been on flea/tick/heartworm preventative.  Vienna is trained in obedience such as heel, sit, down, stay, fetch. Vienna is trained in English, French and Italian. She is crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night. She is good with kids, but may be too playful for a toddler. She is good with male and female dogs, but not with cats. She rides well in the car, does not jump fences, walks well on a leash.. She does not have separation anxiety, lets you take toys away and is great with strangers. When the BAGSR evaluator met her, Vienna was excited and friendly and allowed the evaluator to touch her all over. She met the evaluator's male and female dogs easily with no issues. After the initial greet, she focused on her owner who had a ball and treats.  Vienna does well during baths and likes to be brushed. She is super smart and does what you ask of her. She would do well with an active person that likes to run and/or hike and would provide her with her daily exercise. Since she has great obedience, it would be awesome if her adopter would continue with her training. She is a fast learner. Vienna has terrific house manners and will alarm bark when somone comes to the house. She does like to chase squirrels. Vienna gets nervous around loud booming sounds so living in a rural area with regular gun shot sounds (and fireworks) would not be appropriate for her.  Vienna will be waiting in Placerville. ADOPTED 3/21/2023 Hi! I’m Ash. I’m a 4 month old big boned puppy boy. I have a very sweet temperament and right now I’m pretty much a blank slate. I’ll need an adopter who knows about puppy mischief, who will take me to training and take me out and about so I can learn about the world. Socialization is key for us youngsters! I rode quietly in a crate to my foster family’s house. After the 2 hour drive, I went straight to the lawn for potty. My foster mom says that I am calm for a pup my age and that I’m curious and playful too. If you’d like to meet me, I’ll be waiting in Sacramento. Puppies this young cannot be left for more than a couple of hours at a time. Please only apply if you can be home with your puppy and have GSD/working breed puppy experience as an adult. Sponsor Ash by clicking here. Your name will appear on this page as Ash's sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Ash thanks you! You like this dog...now what? Adopted March 5, 2023 Hi! I’m Athena. I’m a 10 week old girl and my foster mom says that I’m a confident pup who loves to play. I read other dogs well and understand which dogs I can mess with and which I need to respect. I’m definitely not afraid to venture out with big dogs and I fall in line even when corrected. I’ll be a fun pup to teach as I am a quick study. I need my parents to have loads of patience so I learn what is right and what is wrong. I. love positive reinforcements rewards. I’ll be waiting with my awesome foster fam in Newcastle. Hope to meet you! Puppies this age cannot be left for more than a couple of hours at a time. Please only apply if you can be home with your puppy and have GSD/working breed puppy experience as an adult. Sponsor Athena by clicking here.
