My new friends think that I’m around 9 months old.    Sponsor Nelson  by clicking here, Your name will appear on this page as Nelson’s sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Nelson thanks you! I’m friendly and sweet and I’m very relational with people; I like well behaved and savvy kids who are appropriate. appropriate kids too. I sort of prefer people over dogs. I follow my foster mom everywhere! It takes me a few minutes to settle down after she leaves. I will definitely bond strongly with my new human. I allow all over handling, am quite affectionate and have a soft demeanor. I do like slow and gradual introoductions to new people, but once I know you're OK, I relax. Even though it would be great to have a dog sibling, I also won’t mind being an only dog. I get along great with my foster dog sibling and I may be too interested in cats and small dogs.  I wake up in the morning raring to go so I love a good game of fetch to burn off some morning energy. Do you like to go for morning walks? I am working on my leash skills and it would be great if my new humans would continue this practice with me so I learn to meet dogs politely on leash when I’m out and about. I have some specific things to work on so I continue my progress toward passing dogs with good manners. My foster mom can share this with you.  I really love to go for car rides! I am quiet and sometimes sit to look out the window. I do need appropriate daily exercise so I don’t look for “trouble”. If I’ve got energy to burn I may look for things to chew that are not mine or get into mischief…..like dig in the garden. I would really benefit from dog sports like nose work and obedience training where I can use my skills in a "job". I really must have things to do that are suitable for my energy level and personality. Because of this, I will make a super fun companion for someone who wants to have some fun "working" with me-or even competing in trials! I will alarm bark when dogs pass by my house but I listen when my foster mom redirects my focus. I also do well in a crate. My foster mom says I’m an easy-going happy boy. I hope you’d like to meet me! I’ll be waiting in Newcastle. You like this dog...now what? I’m a happy, playful 4-5 year old girl looking for a new family of my very own.  Sponsor Shelby by clicking here, Your name will appear on this page as Shelby’s sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Shelby thanks you! THANK YOU RYAN I FOR SPONSORING MS. SHELBY. SHE IS TRYING TO LOSE A FEW LBS SO WE WILL GET HER SOME NEW KONGS AND BALLS TO CHASE - HER FAVORITE THING.  Shelby is akin to a fine vintage wine – not too young, not too old, with spirited, consistent, and unique flavor. She is one of the nicest dogs you can imagine – mellow, yet full of energy and incredibly eager to please. Loves to fetch the ball for hours and even hands it back to you directly if she senses she has dropped it too far away. She also catches frisbees mid-air – amazing eye-mouth coordination! She has loved hiking the trails of Mt. Tam with her foster family. She sits, shakes, lays down; Great with off leash with other dogs. She comes to you right away when called.  She is eager to ride in your car or she can be reliably left at home alone (she is crate trained or happy to sleep in her bed). She doesn’t beg for food, even when you’re fixing a Thanksgiving dinner. What could be better than that?!  Shelby’s forever home should know that she really needs her daily exercise. She currently goes to the park every morning to play and usually has a long hike each afternoon.  She is good on a leash, and we’re working with her to manage her excitement when she sees other dogs (she’s never aggressive, just wants to play). In summary – Shelby will be a GREAT family dog. She will likely do best with a large-ish yard, kids, and either as the only dog or live with another friendly dog with whom she can play. She will quickly become your best friend and you’ll not believe she hasn’t been a part of your family forever! You like this dog...now what? I’ll affectionately lean on you …. kind of like a dog hug. My foster mom says I’m smart and confident too. Sponsor Atlas by clicking here, Your name will appear on this page as Atlas' sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Atlas thanks you! I’m good in the house but remember, I am a puppy and will get into stuff if I’m not supervised. Everything is a toy…right? I’m getting quite good at using the dog doors and am almost 100% with going potty outside. I’m a quick learner. I do fine in a crate and sleep free in the bedroom quietly though the night. I have medium energy for a boy my age but I’ll need regular, vigorous exercise, also lots of socialization and training. I enjoy long walks and do well on leash for a pup my age. I will alarm bark when someone comes to the house and sometimes I bark at dogs when I’m on leash. I’ll need an adopter who will work with me on this. I need to learn that it’s not my job to bark at dogs I see out and about. I enjoy toys and really love running around the yard with my foster dog siblings. I think having a playful dog sibling would be super fun…or a regular playmate-a dog I can run and have fun with. Until I get more experience, I’ll need proper and supervised introductions to other dogs. I also love to get in the car and go on adventures. I use good manners when I go for a ride. Something you should know about me is that I’ll need an active adopter who knows us GSDs. Sometimes humans don’t realize how smart we are! I’ll be waiting with my super foster fam in Granite Bay. He really wants to please his people and tries hard to learn English!   Lots of eye contact from this sweet dog!  He'll definitely do best in a home where either someone is home or he has a dog companion, he's quite social and would probably fuss if left for hours at a time.  Brady is being fostered in Auburn. Hi! I’m Dakota. I’m a 4 year old boy and I weigh about 76 pounds. I’m a big, soft teddy bear pup. I seek out attention and love ear scritches. I will do zoomies around the yard and toss toys in the air to entertain myself but for the most part I have moderate energy and am rather mellow. Sponsor Dakota by clicking here, Your name will appear on this page as Dakota’s sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Dakota thanks you! I absolutely love to go for walks too! I do need practice on leash as I still pull. But practice makes perfect! I am friendly with new people that come to the house and in true GSD fashion will alarm bark until my humans say the visitors are welcome. I love attention and will show new friends all of my tricks hoping for acknowledgment; in fact, I’ll keep performing until they notice me! I’m pretty good at the groomer and the dog doc. I’m not a fan of nail trims or getting stuck with needles though. I’ve been outdoor dining and do great. I would prefer to visit all of the tables but did mind my manners when asked to do so. I was totally nonreactive to the other dining dogs. And I actually love to go for car rides so Let’s Go! I am polite and playful with other polite dogs and will disagree with pushy, “in your face” dogs that don’t heed my warnings. I’m super interested in wild bunnies and squirrels. So I’m not sure how I would do with cats or little dogs. I love treats and take them gently. Praise works when teaching me stuff too. I know my basics and am happy to continue to learn all of the new stuff you may want to teach me. I’m rather sensitive and don’t like yelling. Simple stern verbal corrections are more than enough for me if I’m doing something that needs correcting. I’m fine in a crate but my foster family lets me sleep free in the house since I have good house manners. My ideal home would be one with lots of activities I could participate in such as friends visiting, going on hikes, getting together for snacks on the patio, and even traveling. I’m quite the social butterfly. Other dogs in my new home must be respectful of my personal space & speak good dog. I’m a clear communicator and I expect other dogs to listen. I don’t need a dog sibling as I truly enjoy being with the humans. I also don’t need someone home 24/7 but I just really enjoy the company of people. Something you should know about me is that I am currently heartworm positive and am going through treatment. My new family must be willing to see me through the treatment, take me to vet appointments etc. I’m doing great and of course my new friends at BAGSR are covering the cost to make me better. They’ll be happy to provide you with the details of my treatment. I’ll be waiting with my foster family in Lodi. Hope to meet you! You like this dog...now what? ADOPTED ON 11/26/2022 Kodi is a smart, friendly 9 month old puppy. Kodi is about 9 months old; he's such a special pup!  Calm, well mannered when meeting new people including polite children (he just sits in front of them and gives kisses) and has a laid back personality. Sponsor Kodi by clicking here, Your name will appear on this page as Kodi’s sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Kodi thanks you! Kodi is about 9 months old; he's such a special pup!  And his stitches are out !!  And he now weighs 66 lbs !  Calm, well mannered when meeting new people including polite children (he just sits in front of them and gives kisses) and has a laid back personality.  He's a snuggler and loves to bring all of his toys to you, especially if you're sitting on the floor-even his bones!  He should be cat workable. He just shows mild interest in the foster's house cat. This interest can be easily discouraged. He's awesome in cars. He just gets in and lays down even when his foster mom leaves the car for a short errand. He's still laying down when she returns!  Kodi just had elbow dysplasia surgery about a week and a half ago and is still on very limited activity. He’s contained to a small area for recovery and he can't be allowed to walk around unless on leash. These leash walks are only for potty breaks.  He has his own bedroom filled with toys and bones and is pretty much self entertaining - thankfully!  Whoever adopts this special pup must follow the surgeon's instructions for another few weeks, gradually giving him more freedom. Stitches should come out November 8th. We want to place Kodi within approximately an hour of Auburn where the surgery was done and where he's being fostered since he'll have some follow up vet visits to check his progress. But be aware!  He IS a pup, all pup!  He loves to grab something on the way to his bedroom - a shoe, another dog toy - anything in reach.  Not to chew it (so far) just to move it.  He'll need work on his house manners; we don't think he's had any inside freedom but he's wanting to please his people big time so should be a quick learner.  11/22/2022  Kodi has a meet and greet set up for Saturday Nov 26 with Brandon Conners and his partner Evelyn.  They've been patiently waiting for his surgery and some recovery time !               You like this dog...now what? BRUIN WANTS TO GIVE A BIG WOOFY THANKS TO KERRY L FOR SPONSORING HIM IN MEMORY OF 'BAM'.  HE IS HONORED.  Hi! I’m Bruin. I’m a 3 year old boy GSD mix. I’m a friendly, sweet guy and would make an awesome pal around dog. I’m polite when I meet new people and once I know you I will definitely seek out attention. I love my belly scratches and brushing and bathing isn't too bad either. I walk nicely on leash and don't get all silly and barky when I see another dog. I’ll sometimes pull when I see something I want to head toward but for the most part I do quite well. I love going for walks. The best part for me is the smells! Sniff walks are the best. Oh..…good thing about the walks. I would be at my best weight if I could drop about 10 pounds. I have a rather stocky build and I weigh about 80 pounds but 65-70 pounds would be a healthier weight for me. Frequent walks would definitely help with my weight loss and fitness regime and my new family must be committed to providing me an appropriate amount of regular exercise. Of course I am treat motivated and I take treats softly. I’m great in the car and just settle down and relax until we get to our destination. I am a gentleman at the dog doc and the staff commented on how polite and accommodating I was during my exam. I stay calm, cool, and collected and let them do what they need to do.I also do fine in a crate but prefer to be out and about. I'm a good boy and not destructive. Other dogs are ok. I like meeting and saying hi but I'm not into playing. I don't like pushy dogs that get too much in my face. If another dog starts trouble I will defend myself. I would probably be happiest with another calm, easy dog that just likes to hang out like me. I have met and kissed a baby goat and said hi nicely to a horse but that pot-bellied pig thing was scarrrrey. I have seen a few cats and been mildly interested but not sure how I would do with them. I don't have much of a prey drive and I'm good with little dogs and puppies. Oh yeah, I LOVE kids!!  My new friends think that I will make a wonderful family dog since I’m a nice gentle boy.  I hope you’d like to meet me! I’ll be waiting in Santa Rosa.   You like this dog...now what? ALY SAYS 'WOOF, WOOF' WHICH MEANS THANKS JULIUS P FOR SPONSORING ME!!  Hi! My name is Aly. I’m a petite white girl GSD about 2 years old. I’m a bit on the shy side but warm up to new friends quickly. I currently live peacefully with small critters, a cat and other dogs. I can be a little timid around new dogs but I do enjoy their company. I use good manners when I meet them and I enjoy running around with them and exploring. I love my people and will bond strongly. I live with kids and really like them, too. I really seek out the humans who want to pay attention to me and I respond quickly when I’m called. Once I know you like me, I will check in often just to say hello. I am quite affectionate. I’m looking for an adopter who will spend time with me and provide me with regular mental and physical exercise. I will be a terrific companion to take out and about especially once I have a little more exposure to the world. I am easy going, I have a super calm demeanor and soft, sweet temperament. I haven’t had much training but my family says I am easy to train and a good listener. I pull just a little bit on my leash but I'm pretty smart and eager to please so it will be easy to teach me to walk perfectly. Leash walks will be great for my socialization and for my health. I have nice house manners and sleep quietly on my bed during the night. I will make a lovely companion and family dog. I hope you’d like to meet me. This is a courtesy posting. I am currently living with my family in San Jose while my friends at Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue help me find my perfect new home.  You like this dog...now what? Apollo thanks you! Meet Apollo Chase. He is 2-year-old male German Shepherd with husky-like energy. He is looking for a home that has EXPERIENCE with the breed and is willing to train him as he needs to learn boundaries and structure. Great with people, good with kids ages 8+ He has done well with an older dog his size that tolerates his desire to play play and play. His favorite kinds of toys: balls, tug of war. He can play fetch but gets bored of it pretty quickly. He can do 10 runs on an A-frame before getting bored. He is curious about everything. He loves food but does not resource guard. No Cats! Needs someone who is a confident leader who can commit to training him.  He gets mouthy when he gets too excited, so he needs to be trained out of that. He is a jumper and can jump a standard 6-ft fence but usually he will come back when you call his name (Chase). Adopted on 7/25/2022. Hi, my name is Harper!  I’m an approximately 9 month old female GSD mix with standard black and tan markings and I weigh about 50 pounds.  I know, I know, my ears are kinda goofy looking, but people are always complimenting my big beautiful amber eyes.  So I guess that’s a pretty fair tradeoff.   Sponsor Harper by clicking here, Your name will appear on this page as Harper’s sponsor and your donation will help pay for food and medical expenses. Harper thanks you! Fortunately, the nice people at BAGSR sprung me from a shelter and got me into their foster program.  It’s only been a few weeks, but I am really doing better now.  I have 4 other GSD pack mates around here that are all a little older and I’m learning a lot from all of them! Besides my eyes, people really love my soft plush coat.  Sure, I’m on the smaller side at 50 lbs. and there is a lot to like about me in this little package!  My foster family says I’m really smart, and I’ve been picking things up very quickly.  I’m friendly to all the people I meet and of course I’m very affectionate!  I do like most dogs that I meet when given a proper introduction. I am generally a calm girl and good in most any situation.  But I’m still very young and I love to play!  I like to chase my foster pack mates around and playing with different toys around the house.  But toys are good to have around, because it will prevent me chewing up your shoes (which may or may not have happened in my foster home).  I like to meet people, and I do get along with kids as long as they are respectful and play nicely with me. So I could be an only dog, but I’d probably happiest to be in a forever home with another dog and children to love and take care of me.    Everyone who meets me says I’m really smart. Probably because I love to work on learning good manners in exchange for treats!  I already have a lot of basic obedience commands like come, sit, down, and stay.  I just need a little time and practice to learn more advance stuff.  But honestly as much as treats are great, I’m really a lot more praise motivated (but don’t tell my foster mom that!). So if you end up adopting me you should plan on doing lots of training with me every day and I promise I’ll keep learning and making you proud. If you’re looking for a calm girl, maybe we can meet! I’ll be waiting in Folsom. You like this dog...now what? Please take 3-4 minutes and complete our application form. Hi! I'm Barsa, a very handsome (if I do say so) 8 year old fellow with a bit of a sad story.  I had the same loving family for my whole life, including children - but they had to take me to a scary shelter because they had to leave the county.  Many tears were shed and I was pretty upset, constantly looking for them for several days.  The shelter reached out to Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue and they couldn't resist how sweet I am. So now I'm with a great foster but I really need to be part of my own loving family again.  I’m friendly, social, affectionate and easy going and am in that sweet spot where I don’t have crazy youngster energy but still love to do things. I love, love, LOVE to play with toys and balls (as you can see in these cool pics). I can be a bit of a talker when trying to get someone to play with me - like "I'm here, over here" kinda dog talk.  I've had some training which I remember much faster when the right treat is offered - hey, whatever works, right?    In true German Shepherd Dog fashion, I will alarm bark when I hear something that I think you should know about. I ride nicely in the car and do well on leash. Looks like I might be OK with a calm inside cat with proper introduction - how great is that?  And for other dogs?  I pretty much ignore them, I'm very comfortable with non pushy dogs and will likely enjoy an easy-going, playful dog friend or I'm also happy bo be your one and only. I so hope to be with my new family soon. I’ll be waiting in Auburn. Adopted on 11/1/2022 Who doesn't want a dog with some training and manners already installed? Bella has been in board and train for the last month. This means Bella has spent a month, living in a home with a top notch trainer learning all about life, and mastering all the obedience skills that will help her live in the world away from a shelter. If you adopt Bella the shelter is even including two one on one training sessions with the private trainer who worked with Bella. Bella's list of skills is pretty extensive, she is: house-trained, crate trained, walks well on leash, and knows sit, down, touch, find-it, get-it, come when called and much more. We've laid a solid foundation now her new family just needs to keep building on it. Bella is both silly and loyal, she has many friends and loves to greet them with her sloppy kisses. Bella LOVES the water - hose water, fountain water, and hose water are her favorite things - well besides her people. We think Bella will be most comfortable if she is the only dog in the home. ** ADOPTION FEE PAID *   Though our adoption animal information is updated frequently, please understand that there is a chance that when you arrive at our location the animal you have an interest in might have been adopted or another party might be going through the adoption process at that time.
