Hi friends, my name is Spike! I am an adult (over one year old), natural blonde with highlights, weighing in at 65lbs, from the mean streets of Houston. Don't let that scare you, I didn't let the streets change me. I'm a super sweet guy. I love attention, I mean like, I really LOVE it, but who doesn't? My foster says that I need to tell you a few specific things; I’m potty and crate trained, though I am trustworthy outside of the kennel most of the time. I get along great with my dog and cat friends and I don't like to start any rough housing that my foster mom wouldn’t like. I still like to channel my inner puppy, so sometimes I will dig in the yard or chew on inappropriate things (oops!). My foster hoomans have been working hard to teach me what the house rules are and I am getting better every day! I am not a fan of the leash and don't really have any skills there, but I'm eager to learn! I am brushing up on my basic obedience skills as well so that my adopters will be able to have a well-mannered, gentle dog in their home and family. Since I lived in Texas for most of my life and wasn't taking heartworm preventatives, I tested positive for heartworm disease when I got to Washington. Luckily, the people at Path of Hope are experts in treating the disease using a slow-kill method that is safe and effective. I already began treatment and am doing great! My furever hoomans will receive the remainder of my treatment as well as free, monthly heartworm testing with the Rescue's Heartworm Specialist at no cost to them. Please don't be afraid of heartworm, it is not a deadly disease when caught early and treated. It can easily be averted by putting dogs like myself on a low cost, monthly preventative. If you have any questions, my foster tells me that you can contact the Rescue, visit our website, or view the most common questions regarding heartworm here. If you think that I am the man for you, fill out an application today! All dogs in the care of Path of Hope Rescue either have or will be spayed or neutered. Additionally, each animal has received age appropriate vaccines, dewormer, and monthly heartworm prevention.
