ADOPTION PENDING! This dog is matched with a potential adopter and is not currently available. However, you’re welcome to apply! While the chances of being matched with this dog are low, your application helps us get to know you and find the perfect dog for your family. An International Dog of Mystery! Meet Cornbread! Cornbread is fostered in Spokane, WA and can be transported to your area (see information below in “Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue” section). Because “Fur-st Impressions” are very important, schedule a meet and greet with Cornbread before applying to see if he is the perfect fit for your family by emailing us at Fur-stImpressions@pathofhoperescue.com. A completed Adoption Application will be required after the meet and greet to move forward with Cornbread’s adoption. Tall, dark and mysterious, Cornbread is an international dog of mystery, baby. This four-year-old brindle colored stunner is a cool, chill dude who will add some color to your life. Are you looking for a dog who is a head turner? A pup that will have people wondering what kind of exotic breed you’ve discovered? That’s Cornbread! Sibling DNA test results came back German Shepherd, Norwegian Elkhound, White Swiss Shepherd, Pit Bull Terrier, and boxer, which gives him a bit of a chameleon-like appearance. From different angles, he can look like any one of those breeds, but this gentle giant is one of a kind. It is no mystery what makes Cornbread happy. His perfect day would consist of a nap, cuddles with people, a walk (while not a marathoner, he does get excited about getting the chance to go for some outside adventures), and some play time with you (a silly boy, he is particularly fond of playing with his unicorn sloth stuffy). Cornbread enjoys playing with other dogs (he has been with dogs, big and small, in all his foster homes with us) and was well mannered with the resident cat. After some play, affectionate Cornbread enjoys tummy rubs, butt scratches, and cuddles with his humans. He may be a big boy, but he thinks he is a lap dog. Cornbread can take some time to warm up to new people, though once he decides you are part of the pack, he will be your friend for life. Cornbread was adopted as a puppy from our rescue and thrived in his home, but his adopters had to move in with extended family in CA when their situation in Washington changed. Cornbread was returned to us because he nipped a child out of excitement. He did not puncture skin or cause any injury other than bruising. Cornbread would do best with older children (10 and up) who will respect his boundaries. Cornbread has plenty of skills in his repertoire (he is potty trained, crate trained, knows his basic obedience, and cherishes his naps), and he is learning to temper his excitement when he encounters new dogs and people on walks. Cornbread’s adopter will need to be attentive and confidently correct his inconsistent spurts of reactivity. Cornbread has allergies, which we have addressed successfully with supplements and a specialized kibble. Cornbread’s ideal home? He’d love a relaxed, mellow home where he could chill, nap, and cuddle with humans. His ideal adopter would be a strong leader willing to put in the work to help him thrive by setting up solid boundaries and sticking to them. Walks make him so happy and romping time with well-balanced dog siblings would be a plus. People to love who would shower him with affection and attention would make this gentleman so happy. Older children would be best, and he would do fine with a cat. Why wait to meet your perfect companion? Cornbread is ready to bring love and joy into your life, and there is no better time than now. Give an adult dog like Cornbread a new home, and you choose the minimum donation amount! Want to meet Cornbread? WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes. We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment. Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.
