Sweet Penny first came to us in August 2015 as a charming and well balanced puppy from Humane Society of Imperial County, where she had been taken in as a stray. From the start, Penny was a fan favorite, never meeting a dog or a human she didn't like. She also had a goofy underbite and a twinkle in her eye that make her irresistible. She was quickly adopted out and we did not hear from her adopters again. Unfortunately, fast forward to this past February, and we got a call from a local shelter that Penny had been turned in as a stray again, almost 8 years from her original adoption date. Thankfully, TRD was still listed on the microchip so we were contacted. When we went to pick up Penny, we found her in pretty bad shape. Her skin was a mess and she was losing hair from the back half of her body. Amazingly, Penny's charm, balance, and wonderful sweet and goofy spirit (and the goofy underbite!) were still intact. Despite Herculean efforts, we could not get in contact with her adopters to find out what happened. We reclaimed Penny at the shelter and whisked her away to a loving foster home (after stopping for a much deserved puppiccino), where she is healing well from her skin issues and getting the love and attention she deserves. Penny behaves wonderfully with other dogs and is thrilled when she gets a chance to run around with new friends. Penny's foster family describes her as calm and confident. Despite what must have been an extended time of neglect from her humans, she still loves people and would settle in well with all sorts of families. Penny can be a vocal girl and sometimes uses her mouth when she plays, so older children and dogs who understand her play style would be best for her new family. Penny’s 23-pound frame is a perfect size for most households and at 8 years young, Penny still has plenty of life and love to share. Penny already knows several commands, including sit, off, fetch, and name recall. This lady of a certain age would be excited learn more skills and tricks, which is also a great way for her to bond with her new family. If you would like to meet Penny, and give her the happy and loving home life she truly deserves, please fill out the TRD application online and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet.
