Gigi is a sweet and silly doxie-beagle mix who came to TRD from Humane Society of Imperial County (HSOIC). She came to that shelter as a stray, very pregnant, and had her 2 puppies Alicia and Lianne within days of being taken in at HSOIC. HSOIC asked TRD to take Gigi and her 2 puppies, and how could we refuse? Gigi is a delightful little girl. She has been a very good momma to her puppies and now deserves a life of being loved and cared for herself. Gigi loves a good walk and will be happy to accompany her new forever people on any adventure. She also loves a good wrestle romp with her canine foster siblings. Gigi has a wonderful playful side and always has a little twinkle in her eye. This funny girl will fetch anything! And she loves toys, especially toys she can chew on! Gigi is about 12 pounds, which makes her spunk and sportiness even more entertaining. And when it's time to wind down, Gigi is an expert snuggler. She is content to be by her person's side, or even better, in her person's lap! She really is a gem, and at 1 year old as of January 2016, she has a lifetime of love and fun to share. If you are interested in meeting Gigi, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Arya is an affable, playful girl who loves social time with other dogs. She loves to wrestle, chase, fetch, and play tug-o-war with her canine buddies. If you are looking for a second dog to keep your dog company and liven things up a little, look no further! Arya is your girl. In addition to being fun, Arya is also very smart. She already has some basic commands mastered, including sit, off, and fetch, and she is ready to learn more! She will be fun to train. Arya loves going for walks and although she sometimes needs help focusing on the task at hand, she is generally pretty good on the leash. And when the action is over, Arya likes a nice little snuggle session with her humans. At about 1 year old and about 45 pounds as of December 2015, Arya is a great size and at that age has just a little more growing to do. She will probably top out at around 50 pounds. This sweet and goofy girl is ready for her forever home! If you would like to meet Arya, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch for a meet and greet. show less

Pint-sized Snoopy was found in a box by a dumpster in San Diego. She was under 8 weeks old and already had a bad case of mange. A Good Samaritan scooped her up and asked TRD if we would take her in. Of course we couldn't say no, and Snoopy became a TRD dog. Two months later, Snoopy is a healthy, happy handful of a puppy who loves playing with her foster brother lab. She also loves playing with and chasing her feline foster siblings. Snoopy gets along great with everyone, and loves all people. She is good with kids. She is small so respectful children would be a must for Snoopy's forever family. When we first rescued Snoopy she was about 2.5 pounds. At about 3 and a half months old as of mid December 2015, Snoopy is up to a whopping 5 pounds. We believe that she will be about 10 pounds when she is full grown. In the meantime, Snoopy makes up for her small stature with her big, beautiful personality. She is fun and spunky, but is also a champion snuggle bug and will make a great lap dog. Snoopy is already crate trained and has just about mastered her potty training. She is smart and knows "come". She is excited and ready to learn more basic training. Are you looking for a big dose of fun in a little package? Fill out an application on TRD's website to meet Snoopy! show less

Good golly Gunnar! Gunnar is all puppy pudge, weighing in at a healthy 17 pounds at approximately 15 weeks old as of mid-January 2016. Gunnar was found abandoned in San Diego over the Christmas holidays. This brave, handsome, and bright-eyed boy is quite popular with the ladies, children, and other canine companions. He walks well on a leash, which is a huge bonus for this a pittie puppy. Gunnar's lovable and eager-to-please personality and age makes him easily trainable. In fact, he has a solid understanding of the command “no” and has a great name recall ability. It would be beneficial to provide this chubby and clumsy pup with lots of chew toys to keep him occupied. He is also semi-potty-trained, crate-trained, and non-territorial of his surroundings. Gunnar is a goofy bundle of energy who would make a great fit for any active adopters with an adult canine companion to show him the ropes. If you are interested in meeting goofy Gunnar, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Liane and her sister Alicia came to TRD from Humane Society of Imperial County (HSOIC) with their mom Gigi when they were just 3 days old. Gigi had come to that shelter as a stray, very pregnant, and had her 2 puppies within days of being taken in at HSOIC. HSOIC asked TRD to take Gigi and her 2 puppies, and how could we refuse? Liane is the bigger of the 2 puppies and she is fearless. She was the first to explore her way out of the pen and away from her mom. She is also very fond of naps. We think she might be a little on the lazy side! She has a great personality, and loves romping with her sister. Both Alicia and Liane are very toy oriented and are full of fun and spunk. Their mom is about 12 pounds full grown, and we estimate that the puppies will grow to be in the 10 to 20 pound range. At 8 weeks old as of mid-January 2016, Alicia and Liane are ready to strike out on their own and find their forever families! If you are interested in meeting Alicia or Liane, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Rusty is a handsome, happy-go-lucky pup looking for a fun family to teach him the ways of the world. He and his brother Frank are good-looking lab-shepherd mixes who have already picked up a few basic commands, and are ready to learn more with their new families. They enjoy each other's company but do not have to be adopted together. They are social guys and would be great either as a second dog or on their own. At 12 weeks old as of the end of December 2015, Rusty and Frank are at a great age to train and grow with their forever families. We believe that given their mix, they will be fairly large, in the 60 to 70 pound range. No guarantees though! And isn't that part of the fun of rescuing a dog? Rusty is up to date on all of his shots and in good health. He's just waiting for the right family to come along and snatch him up. Are you looking to add a new family member to your pack for the new year? Why not Rusty? Sweet and snuggly Casey is a special dog looking for a special family. When Casey came to TRD, the femur of her back left leg was shattered, and our vets recommended amputation as the best course of action. After her surgery, Casey bounced back and is living a happy and pain-free life. Casey is deaf, which is not uncommon with white dogs. She will need some special training and a little extra patience to figure out how to navigate through life with her new family. But, having a deaf dog has it's benefits too. Deaf dogs do not bark at noises that simulate most dogs, like the mailman, or doorbells. Deaf dogs are not afraid of fireworks, thunder or the vaccum cleaner. It's 100% worth it though, as Casey is about as loving as sweet as they come. Casey is extremely affectionate and loves meeting new people. Casey has even mastered a few hand signals. And, she loves off leash dog parks. She runs so fast, it's hard to notice she is missing a leg. Casey is a great size at about 28 pounds. She is small enough not to get in the way, and big enough to hold her own in most situations. She loves meeting other dogs and is a fun friend to take to the dog park. At two years young, Casey is ready to share a long life with her forever family. If you would like to meet Casey, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Sugar Magnolia, or Noli for short, came to TRD from San Bernardino. When she first entered the shelter there, she came in with her 3 adorable puppies. The puppies got snatched up, but poor Noli stayed behind, patiently waiting for someone to fall in love with her silly pointy ears and her sweet smile. Luckily for her, her TRD friends spotted her and brought her into the fold. Noli is a fun and sporty girl. She is extremely athletic and has a definite boxer spring to her step. She would be fun to try agility with. She would also be a great running partner and hiking companion. Noli is great with other dogs, so she is also fun at the dog park. She is social and ready to run and chase! She would be up for any adventure. She is naturally good on the leash and seems to have some basic training under her belt already. She knows sit, stay, and down, and she has good name recall. Once the fun and adventure is over, Noli is also a champion napper. She loves a good snooze. She is a great balance of sporty and fun when she's out and about, and mellow and easy-going at home. And at around 2 years old as of December 2015, Noli is the perfect age to start her life with her forever people. Noli weighs in at a svelte 38 pounds, but could stand to put on a few more. She is a great size for any living situation. If you would like to meet Noli, please fill out an adoption application and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Sweet and soulful Cassie came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County with her mom Eva. We didn't know it when we saved her, but Cassie had a broken bone in her leg and spent the first 3 months of life as a TRD dog resting and trying to heal up. In early June 2015, Cassie had surgery in which a plate was inserted to try to correct the break. Unfortunately her body rejected the plate and it became obvious that Cassie’s injury was not healing at all. Our trusted vets recommend amputating her broken and useless leg. The surgery was a complete success. Cassie is now looking forward to a happy, pain-free life with her forever family and in the meantime she is enjoying life as a loved foster dog. Cassie is a cool little cattle dog mix. She has a petite but sporty frame. At 22 pounds, she is a great size for most living situations. And at about a year old as of June 2015, she is the perfect age to start some basic training. It seems that this adorable girl has had very little life experience, and meeting new people makes her a little nervous, but she is willing to give it a shot! She is naturally affectionate and friendly, and just needs to grow her confidence. With the right forever family, Cassie will blossom into a go-anywhere, do-anything kind of girl. Cassie's foster family reports that she is a dream on leash walks and also completely house trained, although a little potty-shy. Cassie loves being in open spaces and will be a perfect companion for trail walks, trips to the park, and beach days. Being a tripod hasn't slowed her down a bit! If you would like to meet Cassie, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. show less

Adorable Pumbaa was a stowaway when we rescued Timone from Oaxaca. The vet who was caring for Timone asked if we could take one more adorable puppy, and how could we resist? Pumbaa and her friend Timone came over the border together, and have been living together with another older, big dog. Pumbaa definitely has good dog manners and would be a great second dog. She is also confident enough to be an only dog. Pumbaa is a smart little girl who has already picked up some basic training and would love to learn more. She knows sit and "touch". We are not exactly sure of Pumbaa's mix, but our best guess is some kind of Australian shepherd mix. She weighs in at about 14 pounds at 4 months (as of the end of December 2015), and we estimate that she will be in the 40 to 50 pound range when she is full grown. Don't hold us to that though! Part of the fun of rescuing dogs is you have no idea about their pasts. You can only help them with their futures! If you would like to meet Pumbaa, please fill out an application at the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Alister is a pint-sized dreamboat looking for a fun forever family! Alister is about 10 months as of January 2016, which is a great age to start training. Alister currently lives with other dogs and gets along great with them. He loves to play with his foster siblings. He also lives in a home with a small child and he does well with him too! Alister is an easy going guy who walks well on a leash. He is fun and active, but he also likes to wind down and snuggle once he's had his exercise. Alister is about 8 pounds as of January 2016, and we think he may put on a pound or two more before he is fully grown. Alister is a fun little pup with a lifetime of love to give! Gorgeous little Gretchen came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. They asked us to take her in so that we could make sure she got some much-needed dental care before she goes to her forever family. We made sure that Gretchen's dental work was taken care of, and now she is happy, healthy, and ready to find her people! Gretchen is a sweet and easy-going girl. She seems to roll with whatever is going on around her. At TRD's adoption events, she is calm and mellow, taking in the action but content to be by the side of one of her human friends. She is very dog-friendly, however, so she would make a great only "child" or a great buddy for another dog. She is also a snuggler, and doesn't mind hugs and kisses from her human friends. Gretchen does have a tendency to bolt out of an open door given the opportunity (there are so many things to see out there!) so her new family will need to make sure to be cautious about that. Gretchen is a great size at around 15 pounds, and at 4 years young, she is at the perfect age to start her new life with her forever family. She is over all the puppy stuff but still has some spunk and a lifetime of love and fun to share. Lola loves a good walk, and is nice and easy on the leash. She also has some fancy dance moves which she usually busts out at meal times. This fun and perky girl will keep you smiling! Lola is very affectionate with her humans. She currently lives in a home with younger girls and she loves them. Lola also gets along well with other dogs. Lovely Lulu came to TRD when a fellow rescue organization, The Foundation for the Care of Indigent Animals (FCIA), contacted us about a local hoarding situation, in which 20 chihuahua mixes were being kept in a home in Santee. TRD worked with local animal control and FCIA to take Lulu and her family member Queenie into our fold. Lulu has proven to be a delightful lap dog. She loves her people and enjoys being with her human friends. Lulu can be skittish so we do not think a home with children would be good for Lulu. However, she currently lives with other small dogs and a cat, and would be a great companion for another pet, or fine as a solo pup. As long as she's getting love from her people, she's good to go! Lulu is about 5 years old, which is a great age for a adopting a dog. She's over her puppy stuff but still has plenty of life and love to share. Lulu is a petite 8 pounds, which means she can happily fit into almost any living situation. Lulu clearly hasn't had a lot of life experiences, and can be nervous on leash. But with her humans around, she's willing to give anything a try! If you are looking for a loving, lap-warming friend, please consider Lulu! If you'd like to meet Lulu, please fill out an adoption application on TRD's website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less
