Meet Frankie, aka Frankie Four Feet! Frankie came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Originally picked up in El Centro by animal control as a stray, Frankie was transferred over to HSOIC because it was too hot for him at animal control's facilities and he was having trouble breathing with his little smoosh face. HSOIC asked if we could take him because he seemed to have some health issues. We gladly agreed to take on this little charmer, and are we glad we did! Frankie is a fun-loving guy who goes everywhere with his foster mom. He's a hit at the office and at happy hours alike. When we first got Frankie, we brought him to our vet, where we discovered that he has a heart murmur. He also had a treatable tick-borne disease, which has since completely cleared up. We got Frankie on a regimen of heart meds and supplements for his joints, and we are pretty sure this 9-year-old is ready to live forever! Frankie is sporty and spunky and likes a good walk, but he also appreciates nice long naps (snoring required!) Frankie took to crate training immediately and has never had an accident or issue in his crate. Frankie was not neutered when TRD first took him in, and was fond of marking, well, everything. He has since been fixed and has learned that marking is not a desirable behavior, but his foster mom still keeps a close eye on him (you can't blame a guy for trying!) Frankie is a fit 21.5 pounds, and is in great shape. Frankie lives with three other dogs and gets along great with everyone. He even lets himself get goaded into wrestling with his young canine foster sister from time to time. Out and about, Frankie is a real gentleman and greets other dogs with a friendly wag of his tail (yes, a Boston with a tail!) Overall, Frankie is everything that is lovable about Bostons: he is handsome, sporty, snuggly, and just a little bit sassy. He's always got a twinkle in that one eye of his. If you would like to meet Frankie, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet the Clueless puppies! They are aptly named after the characters from the 90's romcom Clueless, because that's exactly what these puppies are--Clueless! In the best kind of way, of course. Now that they are with TRD, they are living the dream, puppy style, and have already forgotten their rough start in the shelter. They are merely 9 weeks old as of mid September 2017 and they weigh under 5 pounds. These spaniel-terrier mix puppies are expected to weigh about 15-25 pounds full grown. Cher spends her day romping and playing with her siblings in her foster's yard. Her favorite toys are rope and stuffies. She has an adorable and loving personality coupled with the playfulness of a puppy. She is friendly with adults, kids, dogs, and cats in her foster home. According to her foster mom, Cher and her sister Tai are usually the first ones to settle down after play time. With their young age, these puppies have not had any training yet--they are truly "clueless" in that aspect as well. They are currently working on learning some basic commands, along with potty training and crate training. They sleep in a crate at night. They haven't had any leash walks yet, so their leash behavior is unknown. Cher's forever family will to be expected to continue to work on training her further so she can learn to be a well-mannered companion. Cher loves spending time with her siblings but she is looking forward to finding her forever family soon. She knows she is the prettiest puppy ever so her adoption should be easy-peasy! As if?? If you would like to meet Cher, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Are you looking for an active and fun-loving buddy to join you for walks, runs, hikes, and all of life's adventures? Meet Zippy! Zippy is a handsome and energetic pup looking for an active family to take him along for all the fun stuff! Zippy is smart and excited to learn new things. He already knows sit and come, and his name recall is good, even when he's at a distracting place like the dog park. Zippy is also friendly with everyone. He gets along great with other dogs (he lives in a foster home with two other dogs and always defers to them) and he has never met a human he doesn't like. He's great out in public and can be spotted chilling like a gentleman out at TRD's happy hour events and restaurant patios. Zippy's foster family reports that Zippy takes treats easily from the hand and has pretty well figured out he must sit before the treat. He also has learned that he must sit to exit the house and wait to be called through the door. This guy is on the right track to being a perfect companion! Zippy is about 50 pounds at 6 months old (early October 2017) and we believe he will top out in the 70 to 80 pound range. He will love a family who will continue with his training and keep him active! If you would like to meet Zippy, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Introducing Artemis, aka Artie, named after the ancient Greek goddess of wilderness and daughter of Zeus. TRD’s Artemis may not be a real goddess, but nevertheless she is a total diva who will definitely enchant you with her cuteness matched with a healthy dose of sass. Artie is a petite sized Brussels Griffon mix, and at two years old, she is full grown at 7 pounds. According to her foster mom, Artie has a sweet demeanor. She loves to cuddle and play with her foster parents and siblings as well as other dogs and cats in the home. She is sometimes shy and apprehensive when she meets new people but give her a few minutes and Artie is ready to be your BFF. Artie does not have a special favorite toy--because basically every toy is Artie’s favorite toy! Artie is also a smart pup and learns new tricks very quickly. For her forever family, she is surely going to be a fun dog to train. She is almost house trained and she already knows a few commands like Name Recall. Her foster family is working on her potty training and Artie has already shown impressive progress. Artie has a penchant to chew on things other than her toys, but she is learning how chewing is an undesirable habit. Artie also loves to go on leashed walks around her neighborhood. On her first walk with her foster mom, it was obvious that she had never been on a leash before. However, with her smarts and people pleasing personality, she has come a long way in just a few weeks. She now walks normally and loves her walks more than ever. Potential adopters Beware!! Artemis is sure to melt your heart with her big soulful eyes. Once you meet this petite doggo goddess, there will be no looking back and the adoption will be an inevitable consequence. If you would like to meet Artie, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Adorable cattle dog puppy Rusty came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. This sweet and sensitive guy is just 12 weeks old as of mid-September 2017. Rusty's foster family reports that he is an easy dog to care for, and loves to be near his people. According to his fosters, he has a spike of energy in the morning and will usually just play by himself with his toys until he gets tired, and then he will settle down for nap time. Rusty is very smart and has already picked up a few basic commands, including sit, come, down, and off. Rusty will thrive and excel with more basic training with his new family. Rusty is also crate trained and appears to understand that going potty outside is the right thing to do. When Rusty first came to TRD, he wasn't sure about playing with other dogs, but he seems to be getting the hang of that, and has ventured out to the dog park a few times with his foster family. His foster family also reports that he can be shy with new people and will take a little while to warm up, especially towards men, but he's improving with that all the time. Once he's comfortable with someone, it's all love and loyalty from this guy. If you would like to add a smart, loving, and loyal pup to your pack, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Presenting Petey, a young pup who found his spot on TRD's freedom ride from the Imperial County! Petey appears to be part beagle, part pug, and part chihuahua, with the body of a some medium sized terrier, which makes him the ultimate American Mutt. He is about 1-2 years old and is full grown at a healthy 25 lbs of weight. Petey is a very friendly and lovable companion. He loves to snuggle and play with toys by himself as well as with people and other dogs. His favorite toys are stuffed and chew-toys. In a short time in his foster home, he has become affectionate with his foster parents, canine siblings, and kids in the home. Petey is extremely smart and he has responded well to training in his foster home. He already knows a few commands like Come and Name Recall. He is also great on a leash--he listens to his humans' cues and does not pull on the leash. Petey is crate trained--he sleeps in his crate at night. He is almost house trained, although he occassionally marks around the home. (His foster parents are working on correcting this behavior. Also, each adoption with TRD comes a complementary session with our dog trainer!) Petey is a happy snuggle bug who could be a great addition to any family (he is great with adults, kids, and dogs) and with his not-too-petite yet not-too-big size, he would be perfect in any living situation. If you would like to meet Petey, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Maple! Maple was one of 100 dogs brought to San Diego by Wings of Rescue to help clear shelters in Houston and Louisiana to make room for local dogs displaced by hurricane Harvey. This hound mix is a sweet natured, high energy girl. At only 6 months and 40 lbs, she still has quite a bit of growing to do and will likely become an energetic 50-70lb ball of playfulness in no time. Currently, Maple is living with another dog and some human kids. She keeps herself very busy playing with all of them, all of the time. Maple is quite social and has done well with most dogs she’s met thus far. She does require a slow, proper introduction with certain dogs as her size and energy can be overwhelming for some dogs. Once a controlled introduction takes place, Maple is generally submissive but also a very energetic, playful wrestler. Maple is currently learning to walk on leash properly and coming along nicely with potty training. She is crate trained and responds very well to positive reinforcement with treats and praise. She is a smart girl, very food motivated and eager to please. Maple also has a sensitive side; she can become scared with sudden loud sounds or movements and is very in tune with her human’s reactions and emotions. Calm, gentle leadership keeps this girl confident, happy, and eager to learn. As a larger, lanky puppy she is a real goofball too; flopping around while playing and plopping herself on you for close cuddles. Her adorable hound eyes will melt your heart. Maple would love a home with very active people, perhaps a running or hiking partner. She would do great as a second dog or an only dog with committed owners to see she gets her high energy needs met. Maple would thrive in puppy classes and/or professional training as well, as exercising her mind is as important as her body. She will mature into an amazing dog with proper training, adequate exercise and attentive, motivated owners. With her fun and sweet personality, gorgeous face, athletic build and quintessential puppy dog eyes, we have no doubt her perfect humans will come along and fall in love with her instantly. Meet Naima, a beautiful boxer pup who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Naima is a typical boxer in many ways: she is energetic, athletic, loyal, and fun. Naima gets a lot of exercise with her foster family and will need a family who will keep her active and moving. As long as she gets enough activity, she is an easy girl to have around. Naima currently lives with two other big dogs and gets along great with them. She seems to be a little over excited to meet small dogs, so careful introductions to diminutive canine friends will be a must for Naima. She also gets excited when she sees other dogs on leash, and will need a little help in understanding how to greet other dogs on leash. For the most part though, Naima has great leash manners and these little quirks can be easily managed with consistent training. Naima is about 7 months old as of September 2017 and is the perfect age to do some basic training with her new family. Naima hasn't met a human she doesn't like and she seems to be especially great with children. She is very responsive to being called and enjoys interacting with her humans. Training her will be easy and fun. Naima is about 40 pounds and will probably put on a few more before she is full grown. If you are interested in meeting Naima, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less
