Meet Peanut, of the Nut litter! Peanut and his siblings were rescued from a local shelter when their mom starting turning on her newborn litter of 9 puppies. Six of these adorable pups came to TRD at the tender young age of two weeks and have been bottle fed and cared for by our amazing fosters. Now these puppies are romping, stomping, ready-to-roll seven-week-olds (as of early August). The mom of the litter is a beautiful German shepherd dog, and we are not sure about the dad. Some of the puppies look like labs, and some look like husky. One thing is for sure--they are all adorable! Peanut is affectionately nicknamed "Butterball" by his foster family. He has a great personality, and just the right amount of playful-to-loving ratio. He is smart and sweet and has more of the husky look to him. He has been hanging out in his foster home with two of his littermates, as well as 3 adult canine foster siblings, 2 cats and a kitten, and a toddler (and his adult humans). Safe to say Peanut is getting well socialized in his young life! We can't wait to see how these little cuties turn out. It's hard to predict their adult size, but we believe they will be in the extra large range. Ready for some cuteness overload?! Meet Wesley, an adorable beagle puppy who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Wesley is about 12 weeks old as of late July 2018, and weighs in at a whooping 4 pounds. He is a fun and friendly puppy looking for an active forever family. According to his foster family, Wesley is an all-around happy confident dog and his confidence makes him easy to train and socialize. He is always ready to meet new people, loves to play with his foster canine sibling (despite a big size difference!), and loves to cuddle. He is doing great with his crate training and he does well on car rides. He is playful and will do well in a family that has another playful dog or a family that brings him to to the park and the beach, and out and about in general. Attention Schnauzer lovers! Yuki is TRD's latest recruit, joining the foster pack from the Imperial County Shelter. Yuki is a three-year-old Schnauzer full grown at 20 pounds, which makes her a good fit for most living situations. Yuki is calm and patient and loves to be around her people. She is great with adults, kids and dogs in her foster home. True to her breed, Yuki is a real smart cookie and has picked up more than a few tricks and commands within a few weeks in her foster home. She has excellent name recall and responds to commands like Sit, Stay, and Come. Yuki has also mastered crate training and house training, which should make her transition to her forever home easier. Her foster family has introduced her to the local dog park and dog beach where Yuki has been a total hit. She plays well with dogs her size. To keep her schnauzer body in shape, Yuki enjoys walks in her neighborhood twice a day. She is calm and non-reactive on the leash. She occasionally does get intrigued by a dog or a person and stops and stares at them but responds well to redirection. Meet Teddy, a sweet, loving creature with the soul of a loyal dog and the body of a soft cotton ball. Teddy is a 2-year-old Maltese-Yorkie (possibly schnauzer) Mix. Teddy is full grown at about 14 pounds. Teddy has a strikingly adorable face with huge dove-shaped eyes and an always wagging tail to match. Fun fact about Teddy: he loves bath time! At two years of age, Teddy still has some silly antics left over from his puppyhood. He has lots of energy and enjoys playing in the backyard with his canine siblings. He is good with adults and dogs in his foster home. He also likes to go on leashed walks everyday. On walks, he has been leash reactive--he tends to barks at other dogs he sees on the walk. His foster family is working with the TRD trainer to teach him the right way to greet other dogs. Teddy's forever family will need to continue to train him until he loses his leash reactivity. According to his foster mom, Teddy is highly attentive and loving. After playtime he likes to curl up with his humans to unwind. He mastered crate training within a few weeks and now he goes into his crate at night without any command. He is also completely house trained. He is picking up basic commands like Sit, Stay and Down. Teddy can't wait to meet his forever family, someone who will love and cherish him and his silliness and most importantly, give him unlimited bath time! Meet sweet and sassy Sadie! She's a 1-year-old shar pei/golden mix puppy rescued by TRD from HSIOC in June 2018. Sadie is a big puppy weighing around 40 pounds and should be in the 50 pound range full grown. According to her foster mom, Sadie has a ton of personality. She is great with adults and dogs in her foster home. She loves to play with her foster brother and sister and take long walks around her neighborhood. Living with her canine foster siblings, she is learning how to respect other dogs and take turns with toys. Sadie is great at playing fetch (although like most puppies, she occasionally does not want to give the ball back). She loves snuggling with her foster family and will climb up on the couch to get them and watch TV. Sadie is smart as a whip and very treat motivated, which makes her an ideal candidate for training classes to stimulate and tire out her puppy brain. She has a lot of potential and will excel at agility training classes. An active family that can take her on daily walks and hikes will be a great fit for Sadie’s energy. Sadie can sit and is learning the stay command. In a few weeks in her foster home, Sadie has made strides of progress with house training and crate training. She is sometimes reactive on the leash--her foster family is teaching her good leash walking manners. Meet Kami, a kissable and kind-hearted beagle-terrier mix who recently joined the TRD foster pack. As of June 2018, Kami is about 1.5 years of age and weighs 22 pounds. Her ideal weight would be around 25-30 pounds and her foster family is currently working hard to add some mass on Kami's svelte body. Despite her rough start, Kami has the sweetest personality. According to her foster mom, Kami is one of the most calm and low-maintenance dogs she has ever fostered (and we trust her, Kami's foster mom has fostered 30+ pups). Kami spends her day lounging in comfy spots around the house and loves napping. She likes to play with rope and stuffed toys. Kami does well with other easy-going dogs like her and has been a huge hit at the local dog park. She will thrive in a forever home with another dog. Kami is completely house trained. She is also working on her crate training and is making strides of progress. Kami is also picking up new commands like Name Recall. Melly is a spunky 5-year-old Boston terrier mix from the Humane Society of Imperial County. She is crate trained, potty trained, and very food motivated. Thus far, she has been responsive to training with food and verbal cues and corrections. At a compact 28 pounds, this high-energy girl is very athletic and likes to be working and moving. Her foster mom says she absolutely loves to play ball, and has a super impressive vertical jump. She will need adequate exercise with purpose; we can see her excelling at flyball or Frisbee activity. Melly is a dominant alpha female with other dogs and will need experienced dog owners who will be committed to training and being the pack leaders in the home. Melly has lived with another dog in one of her foster homes but we feel she would do best in a home without other dogs, as she prefers human companionship and working type play over dog play. Proper on-leash introductions and closely monitored interactions with other dogs will be needed because her high energy and dominant characteristics can become intense and overwhelm other dogs. Although Melly lives with 2 human foster siblings and is great with them, we do not recommend a home with small children due to her high energy. Melly is ridiculously affectionate, playful, friendly, and goofy and will have no problem settling right in when she finds her perfect home. Are you looking for a sweet senior lady to keep you company? Look no further than our lovely Mariposa! Mariposa came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. According to her foster mom, Mariposa is the most polite foster she's ever had. Mariposa isn't shy about letting you know if she needs something, but pretty much, as long as she gets a few short walks a day, a couple of meals, and a soft bed to hang out on, Mariposa is as content as a dog can be. She's not much of a barker, although she does put on a bit of a wiggle show when her favorite people come around or when her foster mom comes home from work. This little lady is sweet and petite, weighing in at around 7 pounds. She is 10 years old as of June 2018. Given her size and her age, we think she would do better with older children. She does great with other dogs around, and loves joining her foster mom on restaurant patios. She lets new people hold her like a baby. This one is all charm! Puppy alert! Tanner is a 10-week old Spaniel-corgi mix who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Tanner is the epitome of all things puppy--he is a tiny fur ball with boundless energy, enthusiasm, and excitement. Tanner currently weighs about 6 pounds and we expect him to be in 25-40 pound range full grown. According to his foster family, Tanner has a loving personality. He is very affectionate and loves to snuggle with his foster mom. Like all puppies, he loves toys--the squeaky toys are his favorite. Meet Darby, a svelte 15-pound Terrier puppy who is 4 months old as of May 2018. According to his foster mom, this little guy is all guts, all glory. Like many terriers, Darby is energetic, determined, playful, and independent. Darby is a smart puppy who is the perfect age for firm, fair, and consistent training so he'll learn the ways of the world and understand the boundaries necessary for living with his human companions. Darby is an outgoing, inquisitive, and active puppy with endless enthusiasm, so training him will be easy and fun. With plenty of exercise and stimulation for his quick mind, Darby is likely to stay out of mischief. He can be wary of strangers while on his daily walks, but with calm and assertive assurances, he relaxes well. He also responds well to reward-based training, such as clicker training and reward training with treats. Looking for someone to steal your heart? Meet Bandit, a 1.5-year-old Pomeranian who came to TRD when his owner could no longer care for him. One of our big-hearted foster families heard about his plight and welcomed Bandit into their home. Bandit is an easy-going guy who just loves being in the mix with his foster family. His foster family reports that he does not require too much attention or exercise, but it's hard not to shower this handsome dude with love and affection. Bandit likes hanging out with his canine foster siblings and can be playful at times with them, but overall just prefers hanging out on the couch and keeping an eye on what everyone in the household is up to. Bandit knows some basic commands, including sit, come, and name recall. He has been working on his leash walking (he seems to be inexperienced on leash) and is getting better all the time. He has almost mastered his house training. He will need a family who will clue in to his cues for when he needs to go. Bandit is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night. Bandit is a really handsome example of his breed, and weighs in at a svelte 9 pounds. Looking for an adoptable hot dog (emphasis on the "dog") this summer? If the answer is "Yes!", then Hershey, TRD's latest fugitive from the HSOIC, is the dog for you. Hershey is a 2-year-old teeny weenie. Hershey is full grown at 17 pounds, which makes him petite for a dachshund, and a great size for most living situations. Like his name, Hershey is a sweet-natured doggo with a shiny dark brown coat and soulful hazel eyes. He is extremely cuddly and playful. He loves to play and romp with his canine foster brother in their yard. He is also great with the kids and the cats in the foster home. His favorite toys are Kong, ball, rope and stuffed toys. Although playing is his favorite thing to do, Hershey easily settles down when its time to relax. Hershey is house and crate trained. He is learning to walk on the leash and has made strides of progress in just a few weeks. His foster family is also redirecting his occasional inappropriate chewing with positive reinforcement and teaching him some basic commands. Introducing Wilson, a 15 pound, 1-year-old pup who recently joined the TRD foster pack after taking the freedom ride from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Wilson is a Shih Tzu mix and has all the kooky idiosyncrasies you would only find in a typical Shih Tzu. Wilson has a relaxed, easy-going personality. He is friendly towards people and dogs. He loves to run around and wrestle with his canine foster brother. But in typical Shih Tzu fashion, his playtime is pretty limited--Wilson has more important matters to attend to, i.e., snuggling, napping and relaxing on his foster parent's tummy. He also likes to take strolls in the park or on the beach, as long as the strolls are short (as in very short). Running and hiking is for silly dogs; Wilson is more like the "stop and smell the roses" kind of doggo. When he gets tired, Wilson will sploot (laying down on his belly with all paws splayed outwards) to let you know he needs a break. Wilson is house and crate trained. His foster parents have noticed that he has a marking tendency (only outdoors) and they are working on correcting his behavior. He is naturally good on the leash. With his handsome face and sweet quirks, he is a total heart stealer every time he goes out with his foster family. Meet the Avengers! These adorable lab-shepherd mixes are sure to save the world with their cuteness and charm. These pups came to TRD from Humane Society of Imperial County. They were turned there in because they were an accidental litter. Mom is a yellow lab and we believe the dad is a German shepherd. At 8 weeks old, the Avengers all weigh in at around 10 pounds. These kids will be bigger adult dogs (in the 50 to 70 pound range). All of the pups are puppy pad trained and working on being fully house trained and crate trained. According to his foster mom, Spidey is the goofball of the litter, and often causes a fun-loving ruckus with his silly puppy antics. He loves wrestling with his litter mates and following around his older canine foster siblings. These puppies are fun and smart, and ready to start a wonderful life with their new forever families. Meet adoptable Lilly! Lilly is the sweetest little lady you'll ever meet. She was originally found as a stray out in Brawley and spent three weeks at the Humane Society of Imperial County before finding her foster family through The Rescued Dog. Lilly is a 4-year-old dachshund-pug mix who would rather spend all day in your lap or in her crate nestled in a warm blanket. Nothing is more important to her than her LOVE for humans. When she's not lounging, Lilly is usually at your feet ensuring that you aren't lonely in her presence. She also never fails to extend the warmest greeting each time you come home. Lilly is house broken, crate-trained, and very, very quiet. In fact, the loudest thing about Lilly is how she can snore like a human! Lilly is very lovable and an absolute joy to be around, but her stray days have taught her protective habits. She is protective over food and toys around other dogs. Therefore, Lilly would be best suited in a home where she is the only dog, or in a home with people who have experience with this type of behavior. Lilly also needs a family who will continue to train her to accept other dogs in her personal space. She's been practicing, and attended a recent TRD fundraiser with other dogs. Meet Parker, an adorable lowriding gentleman who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. When we first met Parker, his front left leg was in a cast because of an apparent fracture. When we brought Parker into our own vet, she discovered that Parker's fracture was open, and the resulting wound was infected. You would never have known that Parker was in pain--he has never been anything but cheerful and loving for as long as we've known him. Parker is now officially on the mend, and ready for his forever home. With his adorably big noggin and his silly short legs, Parker turns heads wherever he goes and loves the attention. He's a real lover boy with his human friends, including kids, and he loves other dogs too. Parker even has a little love affair going with a kitty who lives at the vet's office. He's just an all-around easy-going, affable dude. If you're looking for a laid-back buddy to join you at the park, on a restaurant patio, or on the couch, Parker is your guy.
