Introducing happy go lucky Sierra. This sweetheart with the soulful eyes came to us with a broken leg that hadn’t healed properly. After making every effort to save her leg, it became clear that amputation was the best option. However, being a leg down hasn’t cramped this little lady’s style one bit. Sierra is a Basset Hound/Schnauzer mix and about a year and a half old. According to her foster Mom, there is nothing this little wonder pooch can’t do. She has a terrific disposition, described as a nurturer. She loves meeting new people and pups. Sierra is great with everyone she meets including children, strangers, women, men, and other dogs. She hasn’t met any cats yet, but with her easygoing personality it would probably be just fine. Because of her social nature, Sierra would thrive with a forever family that takes her to fun places like restaurants, trips to the pet store to pick out a new ball, or the dog park to make new friends. She goes everywhere with her foster Mom and loves every minute. And, don’t start thinking a three-legged doggo can’t keep up, cause this pretty girl doesn’t know the word quit. She loves to play fetch and go on long walks with her people. Sierra is a smart gal who already knows the commands sit, stay, come, and down, as well as her name. She is crate trained, though she’d prefers staying close to her people. Sierra’s foster Mom is having a hard time letting this lovebug go because she is truly a wonderful companion. There is no doubt that Sierra will always have a special place in her heart. If you think that Sierra is the pup you’ve been searching for, please submit an AdoptionApplication. show less

Meet handsome Leo. He didn't have the best start at life but he is ready to move onto his forever home! Leo came to us from Tijuana with his 5 siblings. They were under socialized and as a result are skittish in new situations and around strangers. Leo has come a long way in his foster homes where he lived with several dogs. Leo is 25 pounds at 7 months old so we think he will be in the 50 pound range when full grown, but that is a best guess. He is crate and potty trained, doing great on his leash walking, and working on meeting new people. These will be ongoing needs with this special guy. He will need a family who will continue to expose him to new situations outside the home. Leo needs a lot of structure to learn how to be a respectful dog, so adopters with dog experience are preferred. His current foster says he has come a long way in a short amount of time. He is eager to learn and has a lot of potential in the right home. He is goofy, loves to play with toys and other dogs, and is very food motivated so training is going to be fun for him! Leo doesn't know his own size so he won't be great around young kiddos. If you would like to discuss potentially adopting this cutie please fill out an application on our website and an adoption coordinator will be in contact. show less

Are you looking for a handsome fellow to join you on your adventures? Meet Bones, a sweet lab-shepherd mix. Bones came to us from a rescuer in Mexico, where he did not see much of the world. Although he is an easy-going guy in his foster home, he is still shy around new people and unsure of the world outside, like big noises and new places. When he's home, he likes to cuddle with his foster, and play with his canine foster siblings. He is crate trained and loads up easily, with no anxiety or accidents. He likes a good car ride, although sometimes he gets nervous when he reaches the destination if it's not familiar. He will need a family who will be willing to work with him and show him around so he gets used to new places and people. His foster mom reports that he has a ton of potential! He's very lovable and easy to have at home. Because Bones seems to thrive with the company of other dogs, we would like him to go to a home with an existing confident dog. Bones' new home should also be quiet, with a back yard so he can play, relax, and enjoy some quiet time. He would not do well in an apartment situation. Bones is a great size at around 50 pounds, and at 1 year old, he has a lifetime of love and fun to share with his new family. If you are looking for a diamond in the ruff!!, Bones might be your guy. To meet Bones, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch. show less

Introducing Miss Maggie. This pretty little lady is a Spaniel mix and a very well behaved, friendly, sweet puppy. At 7 months, Maggie weighs 7.5 pounds, so we do not expect her to weigh more than 25 pounds when fully grown. According to her foster Mom, Maggie is happy with a few short walks around the neighborhood throughout the day. Initially, she was pretty afraid of the leash, but she does well now. She is more confident when another dog is walking alongside her. It would be great if there were another pup in the household or some doggy pals in the neighborhood for walks and playdates. Maggie loves to run in the grass and play with her favorite toy, a Nylabone. What puppy doesn’t enjoy giving those new chompers a workout. Maggie is crate trained, so if you like she can sleep in her crate or on a doggie bed. Of course, she certainly wouldn’t turn down the option of joining you in yours. She never even cries in her crate unless it’s because she is happy to get up in the morning. Maggie is friendly with every person she meets, including children. She enjoys interacting with other pups, but has not been around cats yet, so that’s an unknown. Maggie has learned the command sit, but has the attention span of, well, a puppy. She’ll need ongoing training to be her best self. She does do a good job watching and copying the behavior of the other dog in her foster home. Maggie’s foster Mom takes her everywhere she goes and describes her as calm and sweet. “There’s nothing I don’t like about her!” If that rave review doesn’t make you want to meet this petite cuddle bug, I don’t know what will. If you think Maggie may be the one you’ve been searching for, please complete an Adoption Application and an Adoption Counselor will get in touch with you to discuss next steps. Maggie would love to meet you! show less

Hi there everyone! My name is Gloria and I am VERY excited to find my forever home! I am a 3½ month old puppy. I weigh 16 pounds and will probably end up weighing about 40 pounds when I am fully grown. I am an energetic lab/terrier mix and really enjoy playing with my foster brother. I do great walking on a leash and especially like when I get attention from people on my walks. I will stop and say hi to any hoomans walking by but when I see dogs from afar I will bark at them. Even though I am energetic and feisty I do like my cuddles and rubs and enjoy some naps throughout the day. I am content to be in my crate or playpen by myself and will lay down to play with my toys without even making a peep. I also sleep through the night in my crate without any accidents. I have stayed in my crate for a couple of hours during the day without crying or barking. I have been working on “Sit” and coming when my name is called and would benefit from a family who will continue with my training. I will sometimes try to bite at things with my sharp puppy teeth, like my hooman’s pant legs and blankets. I usually stop when they distract me by giving me one of my favorite toys like a Kong, rope or stuffed toy. I can be mouthy and bite at other dogs but my hoomans think I will grow out of this stage. I can’t help it if I just like to chew on things…after all I am a puppy! My foster family says that the family who gets me will be extremely lucky! If you are looking for a true opportunity to rescue a special dog and give her the life she deserves, Sugaree just might be your girl. TRD first heard about Sugaree, or Sug, as her foster family affectionately calls her, from a fellow rescuer in Mexicali, who spotted Sugaree bringing a half-eaten hamburger back to her litter of puppies in the late summer of 2019. Soon after, the rescuer was able to save Sugaree's puppies (later known as the Charlie Brown litter) and get them to TRD, but Sug remained elusive. She resurfaced again in May 2020 with another litter of puppies, and this time our rescue partner was able to grab the whole family. Sug was not thrilled to be off the streets, where she had survived quite well on her own for her first four years. But she slowly figured out that people are OK, dog beds are awesome, and having a family of dogs and humans who hands out treats and pets was a bit of alright. Sugaree remains unsure of new people, and cagey around the people she does know, but she has made great strides in showing her humans affection, especially when treats are involved. She is very food motivated and that has been the key to winning her heart and her trust. Sug also has learned to really enjoy pack walks, and loves cruising around her quiet community with the pack. (See her in action here: https://youtu.be/fxbBeUxzjmU) Sug took to the crate from the start, almost to a fault, and uses it as her safe space. She also intuitively understood house training from the beginning of her stay with her foster family. She also likes outdoor time with the rest of her pack and has been known to sunbathe and roll in the dirt joyously when she thinks no one is looking. Sug is definitely a special dog. She may never be a dog who snuggles on the couch or gives sloppy kisses, but she definitely lights up for walks, dinner, and in her own way, for her human friends. Sugaree has an adorable smile and a twinkle in her eye when something makes her happy. Sug will need a quiet home with people who understand her special needs as she continues to figure out life in a home. She will do best in a home with another confident dog (or two!) She enjoys the company of her canine foster siblings and has learned the house rules from them. She is the perfect medium size at 45 pounds. Because of her subdued energy she would do well in a house or an apartment. However, Sug will do best in a quiet neighborhood rather than a place where she will encounter a lot of people and cars when she's out on walks. She's made a lot of progress but continues to be nervous in new, noisy situations. Her new family will need to take it slow with her to make sure she succeeds. To ensure a smooth transition, TRD will include complimentary training sessions with her adoption. We really love this girl and want to make sure she has a wonderful life. If you are interested in providing that for her, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch. show less

Hi-ya! I'm Lizzie. I'm a 5-6 month old Shepherd/Lab mix and I'm sure you've already noticed how adorably gorgeous I am! I'm also a ball of fun loving energy. I was rescued in Tijuana with a few of my siblings. I am currently about 25 lbs and will probably be about 50 pounds when I'm grown up - but that's just an estimate of course. My foster family tells me I'm playful, energetic, silly and super loving. They also say I listen "pretty" well. I'm definitely still learning because I have been known to chew on things that apparently I shouldn't. But hey, I'm a puppy after all! I'm getting used to living in a home and still learning the rules, like chew toys are for chewing. I've also been told that I have a very confident personality and will run the house if allowed. (I'll need parents who are leaders) My foster mom feeds me separately from my sister because if she comes near me I get mad. I'm working on that; I know I can't get rude over food. But otherwise I love to play with her and I even like those feline creatures too! I haven't been around kids yet but I know I would definitely be too much for little ones. I'm told I'm mouthy and need to be more gentle at times. I sleep all night in a room with my sister and recently started working on my crate training, I'm also doing really well with my potty training. Things I need to learn? Definitely leash walking! My dream home would have another dog and a yard to play in because I have so much energy! I need dog knowledgeable parents who are active and committed to teaching me how to be the best dog I can be. I'm really looking forward to working on my training and becoming an awesome grown up dog. ~Lizzie Lizzie is shy in new situations and around strangers. If you are patient and ready to show Lizzie the way, please fill out an adoption application on our website and an adoption coordinator will be in contact. show less

Meet Frida! This sweet lab mix was found wandering the streets at just 3 months old with what appeared to be bite marks on her face. Despite her rough start on the streets of Mexicali she is such a sweet and social girl. She adapted very quickly to her foster home without any fear and immediately showed her humans how much she loves to cuddle and play with her furry foster brothers. She wants to please and does well respecting human cues and other dogs’ boundaries. This social butterfly likes her walks and loves to meet everyone on the way. She can be initially timid and try to hide if a dog is overly curious and comes at her too fast or with strange, loud noises but her curiosity wins over her fear, and she finds her confidence quickly. Frida is very gentle and although she may display some normal puppy mouthiness, she would do well with children. She is food and treat motivated for easy training and she has already learned to sit and give her paw. Frida is crate trained and sleeps through night and so far has been good around cats. She is still working hard on perfecting her potty training during the day. We think she will be a medium to large size and will benefit from continued early training and socializing in new environments. Since Frida is so social and young she will do best in a home where she is not left alone for long periods of time. She is curious and friendly and would be great in a bustling home with people around. show less

Holding him is so therapeutic for both puppy & human, but you will need to earn his trust.
