Sweet Annie was originally found by a good Samaritan walking through the streets of the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Good Samaritan took Annie in and asked a local organization, Hope for Paws, for help placing Annie. In turn Hope for Paws asked TRD if we could take on Annie as one of our own. We happily obliged, as Annie is a great example about everything that is wonderful about pit bull type dogs. She is smart, fun, loyal, and extremely loving. Annie lives with a foster who has a frequent canine visitor, and she loves going to the dog park, where she makes friends with other dogs and humans alike. Annie is social and sporty, but not super high energy. With a little daily exercise, Annie is happy to settle down at home and just relax. Annie is a natural for training, and already knows sit, stay, and come. She will be happy to learn whatever her human friends teach her. Annie is a snuggler, and she's not shy about it! If you are looking for a large lap dog type, Annie is definitely your girl. Annie is about 1 year old as of August 2015. She weighs in at a solid 60 pounds and we believe she is full grown. If you are interested in meeting Annie, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. show less

Smart and sweet, Sierra joined The Rescued Dog from Humane Society of Imperial County and could not be happier. Sierra is an adorable hound-shepherd mix, and is 3 months old as of September 2015. Sierra has learned her name and can also stay. While not yet perfect on a leash, she gets practice twice a day and loves her walks! This bouncy pup must know she is only 10lbs because she is good with kids, dogs, and even cats. We expect that she will be in the 30 to 40 pound range when fully grown. Sierra's potty training is coming along and she improves with that every day. She doesn't mind her crate but prefers to have her eyes on her humans, so she sleeps in her crate in her foster parents' room. This jubilant puppy can hang in her crate 1 to 2 hours twice a day and through the night. Sierra loves kongs, balls, and ropes, but, being young, she may require you to "puppy proof" your home a bit as she likes to explore things she thinks might taste good, not just her toys! Please fill out an application on the TRD website if you think lovely Sierra is a potential match for your home. show less

Magnificent Marley came to TRD as an owner surrender. We heard that Marley was on the way to pound in San Bernardino because her family was moving and they couldn't take her along. We were able to intercept her and take her into the rescue directly and spare her the horrors of the animal shelter. Great Danes are one of our favorite breeds; they are known for their loyalty, their calm, even temperament, and of course their beauty. Marley is a quintessential Dane. She is calm and relaxed in her foster home. Her foster mom describes her as a "big love muffin" and a "gentle giant". She currently lives with two other dogs, one small and one medium-sized, and everyone gets along great. Marley is about 1 and a half years old as of September 2015, and it is obvious that she hasn't had much training. She walks calmly on a leash, but she can weave around. She is still working on her house manners, but has had trouble leaving human food alone. (When you are as tall as the kitchen counter, that stuff can be extra tempting!) She is almost house trained, and gets better about it every day. She can be a little skittish around loud or unfamiliar noises. Marley will need a confident leader to show her the ropes and build up her confidence. Marley truly is a diamond in the rough, and is ready to start her life with her forever family. Marley weighs in at 90 pounds, and is up to date on all her shots. If you would like to meet Marley, please fill out an application on TRD's website and an adoption coordinator will contact you to set up a meet and greet. show less

Yabba dabba Abby! Meet Abby, a fun and friendly corgi mix. Abby is a little social butterfly with humans and canines alike. This girl has a lot of get-up-and-go, and loves a good pack walk with her foster family. She also has a "play group" in her neighborhood, which she enjoys meeting up with on the weekends. If you are looking for a buddy to join you at the park, the beach, on hikes, or just out and about, Abby is your girl! Once all the action winds down, Abby is ready to snuggle! This sweet and affectionate girl loves her people and is ready to shower her new forever family with tons of love and affection. Abby is a great size at about 25 pounds. And at 2 years old, she's the perfect age to join her forever family: over all the puppy stuff but still young and eager to learn and grow with her new people. If you are interested in meeting this special girl, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to arrange a meet and greet. show less

If you are looking for an adorable young pup, The Rescued Dog would love for you to meet Walter! Walter is a Cairn terrier mix who turned 1 year old in September 2015. TRD had the pleasure of getting Walter from the Humane Society in Imperial County. Walter is a smaller sized dog, weighing about 11 pounds. Currently, he loves to walk or play for short periods of time but gets tired out pretty quickly! Walter is a smart young dog who already has great name recall, knows how to come, and is crate trained; Walter can spend up to 6 hours a day max in his crate. Currently, his foster parents are working on perfecting his house training. Walter is great with cats and other dogs and is also excellent on walks. Although he is a friendly dog, Walter does get nervous in unfamiliar situations and likes to hide behind whoever he is around when there is something that scares him, usually unfamiliar or loud noises. Despite his occasional shyness, Walter is an incredibly expressive dog who loves to show his excitement with adorable tail-wagging and his facial expressions. He is a wonderfully kind pup who loves attention and interaction. If you are looking for a puppy to adopt and enjoy, please fill out an application on the TRD website to meet Walter! show less

If you are looking for an fuzzy new companion, meet Bruce! Bruce is a Boston terrier who arrived at TRD late August 2015. He is an energetic dog who loves to play and go for walks. He likes to walk twice a day and has a ton of playful energy. Bruce would do best in a home with another dog. Bruce is extremely intelligent and learned his name in 1 day! He has great name recall and knows how to sit. Bruce is almost house trained and is showing signs of improvement everyday. He is an incredibly patient dog who spends up to 8 hours a day in his crate while his foster parent is at work. After his time alone he is eager to greet whomever is around with kisses and a playful attitude. Bruce is an incredibly adorable dog who boasts a perfectly playful and loving attitude. He is super social and gets along great with people, other dogs, and even kids. Bruce is 23 pounds and is a perfect fit for a household where he will get to play and interact with people. Fun and frisky, adorable cockapoo Fiona came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. At five months old as of August 2015, Fiona is just getting started in this crazy thing called life, and clearly she's ready to enjoy it! Fiona is currently living with two canine foster brothers, and she loves wrestling and playing in the yard with them. She also has a feline foster sister, and does just fine with her! Fiona has been to dog beach, and while she is not a huge fan of the water itself, she loves socializing and meeting new doggie friends. Fiona is smart and is already picking up some basic commands. She is crate trained and is trying hard to master potty training. At 5 months old, Fiona is a great age to begin basic training with her new family. Life can be fast paced and some dogs just don't want to miss out on anything! Meet 2-year-old Kodiak, an adorable terrier mix who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County, where he was a resident for 4 long months before coming to San Diego to join the TRD crew. It's hard to understand why this cool and compact guy wasn't snatched up! Fun and friendly, Kodiak thoroughly enjoy walks and hikes with his human friends. Kodiak also loves going to the dog park for a good romp with his canine buddies. Kodiak is great with commands and can sit and come by name recognition. His trainability shows his intelligence and eagerness to work with his owner to learn new things. More great news--he’s house AND crate trained! Kodiak spends up to 6 hours in a crate up to 4 days a week without issue and takes comfort in "his space". He can also be a cuddle buddy on the couch or in bed if you prefer. While he hasn't been around children or cats, he is around dogs regularly and has exhibited all signs of a dog with great social skills. He can keep himself occupied with his puppy-like love for toys like kongs or ropes. This guy loves toys of all shapes and sizes! At 18 pounds, Kodiak is the perfect size for most living conditions. This 4 month old Cockapoo wastes no time in settling into a fun, disciplined life. Meet Tick Tock! He recently joined us from the Humane Society of Imperial County and seems ready to enjoy a new family to the fullest. Tick Tock is a vivacious and bouncy puppy who has already shown that he is good with children, dogs, and even cats. From time to time he may be shy around new environments or people, but this is a normal characteristic for a small dog (Tick Tock is a whopping 10 pounds), and for his recent experiences before coming to TRD. Before joining us it seems Tick Tock didn't have much experience on a leash, but now he is doing very well on his daily walks. Once good and tired from his walks he finds a place to lay and rest. At night, he sleeps in a crate and is approaching being fully house trained! He is understanding that outside is the place to do his business and his new owner should be vigilant about reinforcing his progress. Tick Tock is counting the days until the right family finds him. He will make a great addition to a happy home! If you would like to meet Tick Tock, please fill out an application o the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. show less

Sweet and affectionate Bambi came to TRD after being hit by a car in February. The Humane Society of Imperial Valley asked that we take her on, and one look at her sweet face and her adorable little 5-pound frame and we were sold. Bambi has been on crate rest since we got her in mid-April with a broken pelvis. Crate rest is hard for any dog, but especially for an exuberant puppy like Bambi. She is making the most of it though, winning over her foster mom with her quirky personality and affectionate ways. Bambi is about 5 months old as of the end of May, and is just a pint-size of adorable! She loves to play and be with her humans. She is good with other dogs and cats, but unsure of children. She would be best in a home with older, respectful children. Bambi seems to gain confidence when she is around other dogs, so we think she would be best suited for a family with a dog already in the home. If you are looking to add a very mini family member, Bambi is your girl! We suspect at her full size she will be about 10 pounds. Bambi is crate trained and already has good name recall. She is just waiting for her forever family to teach her more stuff! If you would like to meet Bambi, please fill out an application on the TRD website. You won't be disappointed! show less

There is a lot to be happy about when you're getting walked 4 times a day! Practice makes perfect and Cupcake, a 1-year-old female terrier mix, is beginning to walk like the best of them! She loves to be outside and has been fortunate for her numerous walks and her outdoor activities (parks, hikes, beaches) on the weekends. Cupcake is a slight sidewinder on the leash, but only because she relishes her time to explore. She is straightening out more and more during her strolls and is so gentle when meeting strangers they often compliment her on her sweet demeanor. Cupcake hasn't been around children of cats, but judging by her interaction with strangers, she might be just fine with both. Her exploring includes inside her foster home too as she curiously follows her fosters around the house. She knows it's only a matter of time before she gets one of her two favorite things; a belly rub or time resting on her foster's lap. She eats twice a day and drinks her water lying on her belly with her head in the bowl. She obviously likes to be unique! What's not unique is her common dog fetish for shoes--they look tasty to her so be careful! When the sun goes down, Cupcake sleeps either on her dog bed in the living room or from time to time in her crate. Potty trained in just days, Cupcake is house trained and ready to go. She will make a fantastic addition to your family! If you would like to meet Cupcake, please fill out an application o the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. show less

He is interested in and friendly with other dogs when he is out and about. Along with her three sisters, Ariel was dumped in a box at the residence of Humane Society of Imperial County's director, sick and covered in ticks. The Rescued Dog brought Ariel and her sisters home to San Diego and volunteers spent hours picking the ticks off of these poor babies. Like most puppies do, Ariel and her sisters took it all in stride. Now Ariel is all cleaned up, healthy, fattened up, and ready to start her forever life with her new family. This adorable sheltie/corgi mix is a sweet girl, who likes her naps, snuggles, and playtime with other dogs. We expect that at full grown, Ariel will be in the 20 to 35 pound range. She seems to be a mix of sheltie-corgi-spaniel, with fluffy fur and a longer body. Ariel also has a natural bobbed tail, which she perhaps gets from her corgi side of the family! Really, her mix is anyone's guess, but whatever it is, it sure it cute! If you would like to meet Ariel, please fill out an application on our website. show less

Are you looking for a fun and quirky little guy to light up your life? Meet Frank! Frank is an adorable dachshund mix puppy who came to The Rescued Dog from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Frank has a funny little personality. He loves to "talk" when he plays with other dogs, or even when he is entertaining himself. He has not met a toy he doesn't like. His favorite game is tug of war with another dog. Frank currently lives in a foster home with a few other bigger dogs and he gets along well with everyone. Once play time is over, Frank loves to burrow in his blankets for naps. He prefers to sleep under his bed at night. Frank sleeps through the night like a champ. He is fully crate trained and has been a quick learner with potty training. Frank is a fun little guy in a cute 15-pound package. Frank is 4 months old as of August 2015, so we believe that he will grow to be about 30 pounds (we think he may have some basset hound mixed in there). Fun, easy-going, and already well-trained, Frank would make a great first-time dog or a great addition to your existing pack.
