Stevie is a sweet and shy spaniel-beagle mix who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. We aren't sure what happened to Stevie to make him so shy, but he and his foster family are working on making sure Stevie knows how to enjoy life and all that is around him. This includes taking Stevie on regular pack walks and building up his confidence on leash. Stevie is a natural heeler, and stays very close to his human when they are out and about. Stevie also loves playing with his canine foster siblings. Stevie's foster family reports that in this home, Stevie is a real snuggle bug. Once he gets comfortable, Stevie has a little bit of a silly side, but mostly he just wants to be with his people, making himself available for pets and love. Stevie is 1 year old as of August 2016, and still displays some puppy behaviors, especially chewing on things he shouldn't. Thankfully his foster family is crate training him, which will go a long way in breaking Stevie of this habit. His foster family reports that Stevie is house trained and great about using the doggie door. Stevie is a great size at about 20 pounds. If you would like to meet Stevie, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Looking for a delicious little treat to join your pack? Meet Sushi! Sushi is an adorable doxie-terrier mix who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Sushi is a sweet, loving, goofy little guy who displays the fun "play, play, play, play, crash, repeat" mentality puppies are famous for. Sushi embodies the joyful exuberance of puppy life. He loves romping around and playing in the yard with his canine foster siblings. Sushi also loves people and is great with kids. He enjoys a good snuggle, but don't expect him to stay in one place for too long! This bundle of love weighs in at about 10 pounds as of June 2016 and we expect he will be somewhere around 15-20 pounds full grown. Sushi is about 6 months old as of June 2016. That is a perfect age to start training with a smart puppy like Sushi. Sushi's foster mom reports that he is very smart and catches on quickly. He already knows his name and comes every time he is called. He has almost completely mastered his house training. He is also crate trained, and crates himself at night to sleep. This little guy is going to make someone very happy! If you would like to meet Sushi, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Your best beach buddy is right here! When he's not wrestling or playing tug-of-war, Koda enjoys walks on the beach and long naps in the sand. He also loves to play with his foster brother. One of his favorite pastimes is raiding the doggy toy bin and taking every single item out, then playing with all of them. At 13 months old, Koda weighs in at 16 pounds and will not get much larger. He is housebroken and crate trained. Koda hasn't spent much time off-leash since he is still learning his name, but given his laid-back personality, his foster family predicts that he will be a joy to take to the dog park! On walks, Koda seems uninterested in cats. He walks calmly on a leash while wearing a back-clip harness and rarely pulls, even when excited. He greets people and other dogs calmly and rarely jumps up. Koda can be a bit mouthy (he is only a pup, after all) but takes direction well when given a toy instead of a hand. Koda is happy to cuddle with his humans but also content to lay at your feet or on a dog bed. He loves everyone he meets, including kids. This tan and black cutie is very gentle and would make a great family dog. Please fill out an application on the TRD website and one of our adoption coordinators will arrange a meet and greet so you can fall in love with him in person. show less

Sky was adopted from the Riverside shelter at 2 months old, but 6 years later the owner's new step-child exhibited high allergies to him so he was returned to the shelter. Sky is 7.5 years old as of July 2016. When Sky first came to TRD he was a little overweight and seemed to be uncomfortable. We got him on a new diet and started with some water therapy and supplements for his joints, and he is a new man. Sky has trimmed down to a svelte 67 pounds and his new figure seems to fill him with confidence and give him a little extra pep in his step! Sky is a great middle-aged man in his prime, with multiple commands under his belt. Sky enjoys going on walks and is good on a leash, although he does show some leash reactivity with other dogs who posture. He and his foster family are working diligently on this and Sky shows improvement with his leash manners every day. With proper introductions, Sky is dog-friendly. He would probably prefer to be the only dog in the home though. He also needs a home with no cats. Sky's adoption will include a complimentary consultation with our trainer to make sure his new family can carry on with the training techniques Sky's foster family has been implementing. Since joining TRD, Sky has become completely crate trained, and sleeps through the night in his crate. At home, Sky is calm, relaxed, playful, and loving. He loves meeting new people and relaxing at home with his foster family. Sky deserves to be placed back into a loving and true forever family. If you would like to meet Sky, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. show less
