Meet Katerina, a 3-year-old beagle-spaniel mix who came to TRD in January 2019. Katerina is a petite dog with a full-grown weight of about 20 pounds. This makes her an ideal fit for families in most living situations. According to her foster family, Katerina is a sweet, mellow dog. She loves to cuddle and has quirky ways to get her humans' attention for pets and belly rubs. She loves to go on walks in her neighborhood and is friendly with all people and dogs she meets. She is good with cats too! Katerina is completely potty trained, house trained, and crate trained. She sleeps by herself in the crate at night. She is also great on the leash and walks alongside her human. Her foster family is teaching her tricks and this smart girl is picking up new commands every day. Katerina is a perfect fit for a family looking for a petite, mellow dog. She promises to pamper her forever family with unlimited snuggles and the sweetest kisses. If you would like to meet her, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

He is crate trained and house trained and ready to light up your life with snuggles and puppy kisses. Meet Arlo, and adorable schnauzer-poodle mix who's ready for his forever family. Arlo is a fun and social guy who really likes being with his people. Arlo is great with dogs his size or smaller, and needs a little help warming up to dogs bigger than he is. At a recent TRD event, he was quite the social butterfly with dogs and humans alike! Arlo is great on leash, and is totally house trained. He's not crazy about crate training, but he is OK when left alone at home. He doesn't like being alone, but he is not destructive. He would appreciate a family who is around a lot to hang out with him and enjoy his company. He will reward the attention with calm and patient devotion! Arlo is around 2 years old as of the new year and weighs in at around 35 pounds, which is a great size for most living situations. If you would like to meet Arlo, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Looking for a cute and low-maintenance love bug? Meet Arthur! Arthur is a sweet guy who gets along well with other dogs but really loves his human friends. We don't think Arthur has had too much exposure to the world in his short 2 years. When he first landed in his foster home, it seemed like he didn't know what it was like to be on leash. He has been catching on quickly, though, and enjoys a good jaunt with his foster mom. Mostly, though, this guy is all about snuggle time. He really loves cuddling and being pet, and will hang out endlessly with his human pals for that. Arthur is a little timid when he first meets new people, but it doesn't take long for him to relax and jump in your lap. Arthur is in the tail end (pun intended) of puppyhood, and still occasionally chews on inappropriate items. He is easily redirected though, and is happy to chew on his chew toys instead. This 10-pound guy is a diamond in the ruff will some serious snuggle skills! If you would like to meet Arthur, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Introducing TRD's latest recruit, Luna. Luna is a 5-pound chihuahua-terrier mix who came to TRD when a Good Samaritan rescued her from a less-than-ideal living situation. Luna was only a few weeks old and so tiny she could fit in a shirt pocket. Her foster family cared for her round the clock and she is now a romping stomping healthy puppy! Luna has now graduated to fitting in her foster mom's sweatshirt pocket. Luna's full grown weight should be under 10 pounds. Luna may be tiny, but she is mighty. She is spunky and loves to play. She is energetic like most puppies and loves to run around in her foster family's yard. She wrestles with her canine foster brother and is generally friendly with all dogs she meets. Her favorite game is "Fetch". She loves meeting new people, and showers them with the sweetest puppy kisses. She has a pleasing personality which makes her a good fit for most families. She will thrive in a home with other dogs but will do just fine on her own too. Luna is currently working on her potty training and house training. She is also working on crate training, and her family will want to continue to work on this with her. All TRD adoptions come with a coaching session with a trainer and with Luna crate training will be an important focus. Luna understands Come and Name Recall. Her forever family will want to continue her training and help her grow into a well behaved dog. Luna will be a great addition to a family looking to adopt a small breed puppy. If you would like to meet Luna, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Parry, of the Robin Williams puppies! Parry's mom Tuesday came to TRD very pregnant. We actually thought she was more pregnant than she was when we first got her because she was so big. It turned out that Tuesday, who is a 35-40 pound beagle mix, was carrying 6 ENORMOUS puppies! The puppies look like Rottweiler or mastiff mixes. The dad was definitely a big dog! These little meatballs are 8 weeks old as of the new year and are starting to act like typical puppies. Parry's foster mom reports that he is sweet and more chill than his sisters. Parry loves his food--a literal chow hound! Parry is usually looking for the dog pile he definitely likes being with his litter mates. He also likes the other dogs in his foster home, but he doesn't pursue their company as much and will shy away from overly enthusiastic play with them. Like all his siblings he loves to be held (which will be a problem when he's full grown!) These not-so-little chunks are 10 pounds at 8 weeks old, and will be extra large as adults. If you would like to meet Parry, or any of the Robin Williams puppies, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Beagle lovers only! Harley is a gorgeous 6 month old beagle that was surrendered to The Rescued Dog just before Christmas. Little Harley was a present to a family that was not prepared for a beagle puppy. Like most beagle puppies, Harley is high energy and needs an outlet for that extra energy. Her prefect home would be an active home that has prior beagle experience and is eager to continue with her training. She is still working on potty training, but with crate training, Harley is getting the hang of it. Because she had a late start with potty training, a home with a yard will be best for this little spit fire. If you are ready for a comical little dog, that will keep you on your toes, than Harley may be the right dog for you. If interested, please fill out an application at www.therescueddog.org. show less

Looking for a dog with fur as white as snow and a heart sweeter than a candy cane to make your holidays merrier? If yes, Jean Grey is the dog for you. Jean is a 1 year old Great Pyrenees / Cattle Dog mix who is full grown at about 30 lbs. Jean Grey is joyful in every way. She is timid but warms up pretty quickly in a new home and is great with dogs. She enjoys playing with her toys and happily prances around her foster mom's backyard. What is Jean's favorite activity, you ask? Belly rubs- she loves to flop down and demands impromptu belly rubs from her family. Prior to her rescue, Jean was most likely a backyard dog and her foster family has worked on getting her socialized with humans. Although she has made strides of progress, she spooks easily around new people and will need calm patience from her people. She is crate trained and potty trained. Crate training is essential as Jean Grey can get into mischief. She is working on leash walking and this will be an ongoing task in her forever home. Given her quirks, Jean will thrive in a home with another confident dog but she can do well on her own too, and she will do best in a home with a yard. Like most dogs of her breed, Jean is extremely smart and training her should be a fun for her forever family. If you would like to meet Jean, please fill out an adoption application and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Need a shot of energy in your life? Meet Espresso, of our Coffee Puppies! Espresso and her siblings Latte and Mocha came to TRD because they were an accidental litter, and the momma dog's owner was not ready to handle a litter of puppies (spay and neuter friends!) These adorable chi-terrier mixes have all the fun attributes of puppies--it's a play, sleep, eat, poop, and repeat kind of life for these guys. Espresso is aptly named, as she is the highest energy puppy in the group. She likes a little rough and tumble play, and she has some spunk! These puppies seem pretty smart. They are working on their crate training and house training, and seem to have the sleeping through the night pretty well mastered. The puppies are 10 weeks old as of late December and each weigh in at around 5 pounds. We think that will make them on the smaller side of medium as adults--it will be fun to find out! If you would like to meet Espresso, or any of the Coffee Puppies, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Ruby Doo! Ruby, along with her brother Scooby, were originally rescued by one of our dedicated volunteers when the puppies were thrown into her yard. We think the human trying to get rid of them was aiming for the canyon next to our volunteer's backyard and missed. Thankfully they landed right where they should have, with US! We brought them to Chula Vista animal control, and once their hold period was up, we officially made them TRD dogs. Scooby has been adopted and now it's Ruby's turn! Ruby is an awesome puppy. She is smart and playful, and very affectionate. She gets along well with everyone she meets, whether it's a human, dog, or even cat. She's a lover, and she doesn't care who knows it! Ruby has pretty much mastered her crate training and her house training, and is ready to work on her life skills with her new forever family. Ruby would be happy to be with another dog or on her own as an only dog, as long as she has plenty of love and interaction coming from her humans. Ruby weighs in at around 20 pounds at 13 weeks old, which means she will be on the bigger side for a doberman, somewhere in the 80 pound range, as an adult. If you would like to meet Ruby, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Genie has a sweet, patient nature and seems very interested in making friends with the bigger dogs in her foster home, even if they are not so nice to her. She is smart and sweet, and social. She would probably be OK as an only dog as long as she got lots of chances to hang out with canine buddies. These not-so-little chunks are 10 pounds at 8 weeks old, and will be extra large as adults. Meet Zuzu, because It’s A Wonderful Life! Zuzu is a young, spunky girl who is super sweet and energetic! Her foster mom reports that she is such a good girl and so willing to please. Her favorite place to be is next to her humans. She loves cuddles and to give you every ounce of love she has. She loves every person she meets and greets them with a wiggly butt. Zuzu gets along great with children and other dogs. Little dogs are her favorite. She lives with another dog and they get along great. She also lives with 2 cats. She is still working on a leash walking. She is crate trained and goes in without a problem. Car rides are not her favorite (she sometimes gets car sick). She would love another dog to romp around with, and she would also love a human running partner. Zuzu is allll puppy when it comes to play so will need a tolerant doggy friend. Given her long, long legs and her coloring, plus her size (she's about 25 pounds at 4 months old), we think she is a Great Dane mix. She will most likely be an extra large adult. Zuzu is a smarty pants, and already knows sit, name recall, and come. She is working on lay down and stay. If you are looking for a loving, sporty friend, Zuzu might be your girl! Are you looking for a fun and goofy buddy to go with you on runs, hikes, and all of life's adventures? Meet Wade! Wade is a lovable lab mix looking for a family who will appreciate his exuberance and energy. Wade is a handsome little fellow, and weighs in at a perfect 35 pounds. Wade is about 1 year old as of November 2018, and appears to not have a lot of worldly experiences in his young life. He has a great zest for life though, and a willingness to learn what his humans want to teach him. Wade has already learned his house training skills, and is crate trained. Wade still has some residual puppy mouthiness that his foster family has been working on, and he can sometimes be leash reactive with other dogs. He has been working on these skills with his foster family, and has been making a lot of progress. Wade's adoption comes with a complimentary training session with TRD's trainer to make sure he and his new family stay on the right track with his training. This guy is definitely a diamond in the RUFF! His foster mom reports that Wade is super goofy and always has the most hilarious expression on his face when he's happy or excited. Wade is full of energy and would make a GREAT running partner. Wade loves to play, jump around, and bark at himself in the mirror. Sounds like hours of entertainment to us! If you would like to meet Wade, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

The TRD team intercepted sweet Cindy Lou Who and her brother, Grinch, when a man was relinquishing them to the shelter. It was clear these 3 month-old puppies were undersocialized and had a rough start. After immediate vet care, security and patience Cindy opened up and shined as a sweet natured, playful, smart puppy. Cindy Lou Who is a terrier mix and expected to be approximately 20 to 25 pounds. She has done very well gaining confidence in her foster home with two human foster siblings and an older dog to show her the ropes. She is crate trained and continues to work on her potty training skills. Cindy would do best in a home with another dog to continue to help her build her confidence and socialization skills. Cindy will need some continued patience and guidance with leash training/walking as she can become overwhelmed and a tad frightened initially with new environments. She walks well with her canine foster sister showing her the way! Her foster family reports she is sweet natured, spunky and a huge cuddle bug! If you are interested in being Cindy’s new family please fill out an application to meet Cindy. show less

Are you looking for a snuggly, playful new best friend? Grinch could be the puppy for you! The TRD team intercepted Grinch and his sister when a man was trying to leave them at the shelter; they were just 3 months old! It was immediately obvious they had not been well socialized or well taken care of. After vet care, trust and patience, Grinch started to come out of his shell and become the playful, energetic, confident puppy he is today. Grinch is a terrier mix and expected to be approximately 25-30 pounds or so. Grinch would do great in a house with another dog so he continues to learn social boundaries with fellow canines. He is working on his potty training and his foster mom is happy to report he sleeps through the night in a crate with no accidents. True to his terrier breed, Grinch has a playful and strong personality with other dogs, while also being very human oriented, loyal and cuddly. He’ll require a family willing to do training with him continue to bring out his great qualities after his somewhat neglectful start. He currently lives with other dogs as well as older children and has been doing very well in these environments. If you would like to meet Grinch please fill out an application! show less

Meet Moose, formerly Walnut, of the Nut litter! Moose and his siblings were rescued last July from a local shelter when their mom starting turning on her newborn litter of 9 puppies. Six of these adorable pups came to TRD at the tender young age of two weeks and were bottle fed and cared for by our amazing fosters. Moose was originally adopted out at family with a toddler, but Moose's exuberance was too much for the small human. He came back to TRD and has been living with our trainer, working on his life skills and getting well socialized. Although Moose has worked on controlling his puppy ways, we recommend that he go to a family with older children. Now at six months old as of mid-December, Moose weighs in at around 45 pounds! He's going to be a big boy full grown! Moose's mom is a beautiful German shepherd dog, and we are not sure about the dad. Some of Moose's siblings look like labs, and some look like husky mixes. One thing is for sure--they are all adorable! Moose is the wild card of the litter. He has a unique brindle coat and amazing blue eyes. Moose is very intelligent and in tune with his people. Moose is on the right track with all of his training and would love to continue working on his skills. Moose's adoption comes with a complimentary session with our trainer.
