Tucker is a playful, energetic dachshund/ chihuahua mix. He is nine months old and he is one loving puppy! Weighing in just under 10 pounds, he is one snuggly pup. He has the biggest puppy eyes you have ever seen, how can you not fall in love with him? Tucker plays well with other dogs, and loves to play with his foster siblings, but when he is tired, he goes and lays on his bed. His foster mom tells us she thinks he could stay in bed all day if no one tried to wake him up. Tucker is a perfect fit for a family who loves their cuddling time because he loves to cuddle and Tucker will sometimes "talk" to you when you first get home or when he is trying to get your attention - So adorable! He's a easily lovable dog. Tucker does not tug or pull while on walks, he either stays at your side a little behind you, maybe because of his tiny legs. Although, he will try and be sneaky by trying chew his way through his leash if your not looking, but all puppies like to chew things sometimes, which is why he would need chew toys. Tucker loves to go on adventures as any other puppy would, but would rather prefer spend most of his time cuddled up on your lap. Above all, Tucker has an amazing, affectionate, and loving personality and is perfect for the families who would love to have a little 'snuggle bug' in the family. If you would like to meet Tucker-- please visit our website at www.TheRescuedDog.org and complete an application! http://therescueddog.org/available-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ show less

Rosalind’s foster mom describes this adorable, six-month-old little girl like this: “Rosie is the best companion anyone could ask for, she is next to me all the time either for cuddles, a ride in the car or to play fetch. Rosie is a great watchdog and lets me know when someone is close by. Rosie is active and spontaneous and is always up for something new. She is also calm and will sit on my lap or my children's laps when we are on the couch. Rosie loves to play fetch, she retrieves the ball like a pro over and over and over, and is willing to play as long as you are!” Rosalind is now ready for a loving forever home, but to get to this place, Rosalind had to face an unexpected and scary challenge. Here’s a bit of her story: When The Rescued Dog saved Rosalind and her siblings at just two weeks old, Rosalind stood out as the most fun-loving and fearless one of the Chihuahua-mix litter. Luckily, all were placed together with a loving foster family who provided for the puppies’ needs for socialization, house manners and nurturing. While the other pups were adopted out as soon as they were old enough, Rosalind had a problem. When Rosie was 4 weeks old, the vets discovered she had a serious heart murmur, which required surgery - and fundraising - to correct. She has now recovered from the procedure and her veterinarian reports that it was a complete success with no further treatment needed. A dog lives in the moment and even with what she’s been through, Rosalind wakes up ready for another fun day knowing she can trust people and is cared about. And while this girl may be tiny at just 5 pounds, she thinks she is Mighty-Dog, wrestling and playing with confidence! Rosalind is completely house trained; crate trained and does very well on leash. She also adores all dogs, big and small, and would be great in a family with children of all ages. At her size and age, she may even do well with cats. If you are interested in meeting Rosalind, please fill out an application at www.TheRescuedDog.org and we can get you out to meet her. show less

Do you need a constant smile in your life? Romeo will provide that smile, free of charge (well, he may ask for some belly rubs in return!). Romeo's original owner bought him off of craigslist when he was 2 months old. Recently, Romeo's original owner lost both of his jobs and found himself on the streets of San Diego. Realizing this was not a good life for poor Romeo, he asked The Rescued Dog to take Romeo and find him a good home. We were slightly hesitant... until we saw his photos. How can you say no to a face like Romeo's?! And boy are we glad we took him - this guy is AWESOME! He turned a year old on July 25, knows "sit" and "down," is VERY treat motivated but takes treats gently, walks fantastically on a front-clip harness, gets along well with other dogs when properly introduced, loves people of all shapes and sizes, is crate trained and is 100% house trained. See, we told you he's awesome! Romeo wins the hearts of everyone he meets - with his half white and half black face, his goofy underbite and smile, and his black polka dots, it's hard not to love him. He loves to play with other dogs, but he'd be fine as an only dog as long has he gets regular outings to romp with his canine companions. Romeo tends to get overly excited when meeting other dogs and people on a leash, but has been through the Zen Dog Training program through Alpine Dog Ranch and the trainer had nothing but great things to say about our boy. Romeo is currently working on his manners while on leash and would benefit from continued training. He would make an amazing running partner as he sticks right by your side! Romeo can get very attached to his family and needs a confident handler to continue his great progress. If you're interested in Romeo, please fill out an Adoption Application today. show less

This charming young gentleman - a beautiful, one-year-old, 52-lb. brindle shepherd mix is just as good as can be - well-mannered, non-aggressive, sociable and quick to learn. Unlike the many other pups we save from the pound, Roscoe was not a stray or given up to a shelter because of any behavioral reason. He had the unfortunate situation of being in the wrong place at the wrong time - the person dog-sitting him got into trouble with the law; Roscoe was confiscated and ended with authorities placing him in the local animal pound. More than a week went by and for reasons we will never know, he was not reclaimed by his family. At the pound, Roscoe developed pneumonia and was one sick pup. Luckily, The Rescued Dog got him out as soon as he was available, quickly got him to the vet and nurtured him back to health again. He is now with a foster dad - with two other dogs in the house - who thinks the world of this guy and says he is friendly, laid-back and sweet, and very little extra trouble at all. Easy-going Roscoe enjoys being active or just chilling out. A friend to all, Roscoe greets everyone he meets, and then does not bother them, but settles in to enjoy the company. Roscoe loves walks and especially playing with other dogs, and, even at his young age, comes whenever he’s called. House trained and very clean, he is already trusted enough in his foster home to have free range of the house. Roscoe would do great in a home with a dog sibling however he does show some cat interest so we would want to avoid homes cats. While naturally very mellow, he still displays a fun-loving adolescent personality and could use a bit of training not to exhibit excited greetings or rush out the door anticipating a walk. Roscoe’s foster parent wishes he could keep this gem, but can’t, so Roscoe really needs a forever home where his sweet nature will be nurtured and appreciated. You can arrange a meeting with Roscoe by filling out an Adoption Form at www.TheRescuedDog.org. show less

Three 10-week-old cuties, brothers Eren and Armin and their sister Mikasa, are ready to leave mom and find their own forever families. These smart, playful pups, thought to be border terrier/schnauzer mixes, are currently around 5 lbs. each, and are expected to top out at around 15 lbs. Affectionate and curious, they all have typical puppy energy, checking out all their toys and happily getting to know their foster family and the home’s other dogs. However, right now they are each other’s favorite playmates, wrestling and making everything they are near part of an obstacle course to chase each other around. Each one has a unique personality. Eren is described as the sweetest. While his brother and sister seem to have more play-stamina, Eren is the first to want to come snuggle on the sofa with the humans and bigger, less energetic adult dogs. Curious Armin is the largest of the three. He's also a snuggler, but would rather wrestle with Mikasa when he can. He's already learned his name, and is interested in everything his foster family is doing! Mikasa - or “Mika” as the foster family calls her - is the baby. She can dish it out, but will squeak and run for cover if the boys get the best of her. All three are in the process of potty-training, are crate trained, and usually come running when called by name. Alert and eager to please, they are ready to find out what the rules of their new homes will be. The puppies are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. show less

Young miss Ruby is a bouncy white and brindle boxer, just over one year old, who is super smart and super active. This girl will be a good fit for someone who can keep her brain and body busy and not leave her for long periods of time. Ruby’s foster home says she has been a joyful dog to train (very food motivated), and she has learned almost a dozen obedience commands since her rescue. She thrives on long walks, trips to dog beaches, lots of play with people and dogs, and can run 5-6 miles next to a bike. She is also an awesome off-leash hiker and stays with her pack on group dog hikes. The foster parents think Ruby would excel in agility or lure course racing. Ruby has come a long, long way from where she was when she was relinquished to a shelter by owners who were not experienced enough to give her even basic training, especially necessary for a dog with her high energy level. When she came down with treatable mange, they brought her in to be euthanized rather than deal with their young dog’s solvable problems. Luckily, The Rescued Dog organization saved her and put her in an experienced foster dog home that has given her the treatment, guidance and activities she needed. The mange is gone, she’s being trained, and they say they would keep her if they could: “We’ve turned our tomboy into a somewhat refined lady.” Ruby is fully grown at 47 lbs. While she gets along well with children, she would do best in a home with a child or children older than 12. She could play all day with other dogs in the house, but because of her lively desire to play nonstop, she should be with another strong-minded dog or dogs who would let her know when her activity needs get to be too much. Due to her white short coat, she needs to have on dog sunscreen if she’s outdoors in the sun for long periods of time. Ruby has been trained to heel on a slip-lead and, when adopted, will come with a training session to show her adopter how to properly walk, crate, and feed her and how to use the commands this bright girl has learned in her short foster experience. If you would like to meet this beautiful boxer, fill out an Adoption Form for Ruby at http://therescueddog.org/available-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ show less

Sweet little Flash just loves to be with people. Sadly, Flash at just a little over a year old, didn’t have that chance in his former circumstances. He was rescued when a neighbor saw this little guy chained up daily outdoors, without the love and companionship he so desperately needed. This very friendly, curly-haired, 12-lb. boy is white with touches of champagne coloring. He looks to be a Maltipoo - a popular small dog that is a mix of miniature poodle and Maltese. These dogs are known for their fun-loving, sweet temperament, low shed and hypoallergenic fur. They are first and foremost companion dogs who need to be with people in a proper home environment. After being rescued from his sad situation, Flash is now living in a temporary foster home, getting the affection and attention he deserves. No longer scared and alone, he can enjoy being held and cuddled like the lap dog he is. Sweet Flash has quite a playful spirit, too. He loves going on walks morning and evening, and even does a bit of jogging. This happy guy will entertain you indoors as well; his favorite command is “fetch” with his stuffed toys and balls. Flash is enthusiastic greeting new people and being petted by everyone he meets, and, once he’s checked them out, gets along fine with other dogs of all sizes. Flash has been good around children, and while he hasn’t been introduced to cats by his foster, with his gentle temperament and small size he may do well with them, too. Since no one ever took the time to work with this alert and loving pup, he will need some consistent and kind training to learn how to behave in the house and follow obedience commands. He has been taught by his foster to stay in the crate when left alone until he learns the family rules and is house trained. What Flash needs is a loving, understanding home, then this bright boy can blossom into the darling, dependable companion he was meant to be. Maybe you can help him forget the loneliness and despair he felt before his recent rescue, and give him the life he deserves. Our adorable boxer-mastiff mix Bacon and his equally lovable brother Eggs were nabbed by The Rescued Dog in San Bernardino--their "owner" tried to sell them and their littermates in the parking lot of the San Bernardino pound before turning them in. The owner managed to sell Bacon's and Egg's siblings but our poor little bite-sized nom noms were left behind. We scooped them up and brought these two darlings to San Diego. When TRD got them back home, we discovered that they both had hematomas in their ears, probably from shaking them because of infections or irritations. Even with these painful conditions, Bacon and Eggs bounced back with a little TLC in true puppy form. They have been silly and rambunctious from day one. Their infections have totally cleared up and they are healthy and happy little guys! Spunky and fun, Bacon has been stealing hearts left and right. He is both athletic and affectionate, and love other dogs and every person he meets. At six months old as of December 2014, Bacon is at a great age to start puppy classes and basic training. Bacon is very smart and has taken to crate training very well. He has also caught on to some basic training and would love to continue learning with their forever families. Bacon is a boxer-mastiff mix and he weighs around 40 pounds at 6 months. We estimate that Bacon could weigh as much as 80 pounds full grown. In early September, The Rescued Dog got a desperate call from a contact at East Valley Animal Shelter in LA County. Someone had turned in a litter of 7-week-old cattle dog mix puppies, and the runt of the litter was badly injured. It appeared that another dog had attacked him, severely damaging in right eye and face. The shelter was going to euthanize him due to the extent of his injuries unless a rescue would step up and take him in. Needless to say, The Rescued Dog agreed to take the puppy and transported him to San Diego immediately for emergency care. The amazing team at San Carlos Animal Hospital agreed to nurse the puppy, who we named Odin, back to health, an effort more extensive than we realized when we saved him. Odin's right eye could not be saved and was surgically removed. His facial injuries had become infected and needed treatment and monitoring. Odin was in rough shape. Thankfully, Odin's outstanding care and his puppy spirit pulled him through. After over a week in residence at SCAH, Odin was strong enough to venture out to his foster home. He settled in to his new surroundings and, in true puppy fashion, bounced back quickly. Today, he is a typical rambunctious, fun-loving puppy with ears that could catch signals from space! Odin is loving and smart, and appears to have erased any memory of his rough start from his mind. As Odin continues to grow, it appears that he may be mix with a larger breed dog. His paws are pretty big! We estimate that Odin may grow to be in the 50-to-70 pound range. Odin is already taking well to basic training, and is looking for a home that will continue to let him "live the dream". We are going to be picky for this guy! He has stolen all of our hearts and we think he deserves the best. With darling adolescent boy Mickey, it’s all about the fun - and the snuggling! The 26 lb. beagle/border collie mix (best guess) is 8-10 months old and won’t get much larger - a great medium-sized, short-haired, good-natured dog buddy. He is currently being fostered with a family that includes a boy and a girl, 8 and 10 years old (whom he follows around like siblings), and a larger dog. He has been curious towards other dogs he’s met on walks, but his foster family hasn't seen a bit of aggression in this happy pup. Mickey likes long leash walks, going for jogs and runs, and just playing in the backyard or house. Mickey also loves the game of fetch, tirelessly retrieving the ball to have it thrown again. No worries if you are too tired to play, though. Mickey loves every type of dog toy and will toss a ball for himself to keep himself entertained. Once he’s tired out, he will wiggle in just as close to his person as possible and calm down for a good cuddle-session. Now that he has been rescued, Mickey is having the chance to use his sharp mind to learn commands. He has “sit” down perfectly, and is learning “stay”, recall, leash manners, not to nip or “mouth”, and how to let his owners know when he needs to go out. He’s almost fully house trained. His foster mom says Mickey is learning quickly and is very responsive to correction. He is crate-trained, and sleeps through the night well. He also enjoys car rides if you like a dog companion for your adventures. Until he has grown out of his puppy stage and has learned more of what behaviors are permissible to his family, he should, obviously, be supervised around very young children. Otherwise, he’s a good fit for a family or person willing to teach him and provide him the active lifestyle he enjoys so much. To meet Mickey, please fill out an adoption application at: show less

Meet Bjorn aka Baby Big Paws! Bjorn is the epitome of just how resilient dogs are. We rescued Bjorn from San Bernardino City shelter and were sadden to see the poor condition he was in. Bjorn was malnourished, had an upper respiratory infection, a broken tail, and what appeared to be cigarette burns on his back. His foster parents nursed him back to health and after having his tail amputated, Bjorn is ready for adoption! At 7 months old, this shepherd/Rottweiler mix is one big puppy! Bjorn will likely top out at 70-80lbs at maturity. Everywhere Bjorn goes, he gets complimented on his unique looks: underbite, downy coat, docked tail (for medical reasons), and giant paws! Bjorn is well socialized with young children and other dogs of all sizes, currently living with a 6 pound terrier. Bjorn is crate trained and house trained and doing well with basic commands. Bjorn knows "sit", "shake", "down", and even won a "spin" contest at PetsMart. He's quickly learning the intricacies of "fetch and he is mellow guy who enjoys long car rides so he can get an extra nap in. Bjorn is a bit of a couch potato who seems to like to watch TV and grumble like a bear whenever a dog comes on TV. The original owners were over their city dog limit and were forced to surrender the chihuahua family. Sebastian and his siblings were placed in a wonderful foster home where they were well socialized with people, and especially kids. The neighborhood kids came over daily to visit and play with the puppies. At 4 months old, Sebastian is just under of 8 lbs and we expect him to be under 20lbs at maturity - the perfect size for any home. Sebastian is the largest of the litter and of course, one of Sebastian’s favorite activities is eating! The foster parents have nicknamed him “Bashful Bash,” an endearing name for just how sweet and cuddly this boy is. Sebastian is a very mellow natured pup who loves to be held in your arms and at your side. He has a delightfully sweet temperament, adores playing with the neighborhood children and dogs of all sizes and everyone who meets him comments about his kind nature. Bash is already crate and potty trained, he knows "sit" and "dance" and would be a wonderful apartment pup as he does not bark too much. Bash has been to fiesta island and dog parks and loves running around with all of the dogs but he keeps close to his human. Tiny Sophie could not possibly be more playful and happy. Her foster mom describes her as “quick, smart and full of energy”. Sophie is a short-haired blonde chihuahua mix, possibly part dachshund or corgi, who, at under 3 months, is the perfect age to start training and learning what her new family might want from her. Right now she’s only about 6 lbs. and we expect she probably will top out at no more than about 15 lbs. Sophie delights in going for long walks on leash, and is curious about all she encounters. At home, she loves her toys, and will play fetch with her favorite rope toy for as long as her foster mom will keep the game up. Nobody around for fun? Sometimes she tires herself out just doing figure eights around the apartment. This imaginative little girl even creates her own obstacle courses around furniture and pillows that she uses to practice her racing skills. Could she be timing her personal best? As playful as Sophie can be, she calms down and then is such a cuddler! She loves snuggling and burrowing under the blankets in bed. She will nestle up by your neck and smother you in puppy kisses. Sophie looks right into your eyes when you speak to her, and is starting to learn commands. Right now she’s especially good at recall; her foster mom says she comes running right back to her when she says “Sophie, want a treat?” She is house trained, sleeps in her crate happily all night, and has been good meeting new people. We aren't certain of how this handsome young man was found as a stray in San Bernardino, but when we saw him, we did know we had to make sure this special guy found a wonderful home. Cosmo is a two-year-old with a love of joining his people on an adventure. While he enjoys giving kisses, & playing with his foster parents and their dog at home, he really perks up going for his two daily walks or happily riding in the car - where he hopes he'll arrive someplace he can meet new people and dogs, like the dog park, Fiesta island or taking a hike. He has behaved very well meeting new people, children and dogs of all sizes. The gentle, quiet, and sometimes goofy Cosmo is a low-shedding white wheaten terrier mix who should end up weighing between 35-40 lbs. He came from a shelter quite underweight, but is in good health now that he gets regular meals, lots of love and plenty of adventures. Cosmo was a quite underweight when found as a stray but his foster mom says that he has clearly lived in a home before and was loved at some point as he has wonderful manners and is almost completely house trained. Cosmo would be happy to watch TV with you on the couch he loves to be snuggled and especially likes to be picked up like a baby - seriously, it's really cute, and we think that once he’s at full weight he’ll make a good jogging buddy, too. Cosmo just may be the perfect companion for you. Fill out an Adoption application on our website at www.theRescuedDog.org and get a chance to meet this young fella. show less

Our lovable Kimber, a cattle dog/heeler mix, has been described as “awesome - engaging, endearing, kind and smart” and this young lady needs a break. At just a year and a half, Kimber was rescued from a shelter with two of her 9-month-old pups, both who turned out to have inherited their mom’s playful, lovable nature. Now Kimber needs a home where she can receive some of the attention and care she provided her young ones. Kimber is house and crate trained and has been quick to learn from her foster dad. He says she is so intuitive that she already understands which couch is OK to jump on and which one is for humans only. He says she has especially impressed him with how easily she adapts to any situation without a hint of stress or anxiety. This 30-lb. short-haired sweetheart gets along well with adults and kids as well as other dogs. Since her rescue, Kimber has been allowed to spend time with many different pooches at a doggy day care, and quickly learned good mealtime manners when being fed around other dogs. Various people on staff there give her leashed walks and on those she has proven to be attentive and easy going. She really loves petting and attention, and her happy disposition is infectious. She can get excited, but calms down easily, and has plenty of energy to accompany her new family on walks, hikes or running adventures. Can you provide Kimber with the kind of home she so needs?
