Meet the incredibly handsome Bo! This sweet and good-looking Maltese boy is a little shy at first, but once he gets to know you, he is full of personality! Being very verbal, Bo will tell you all about his day when you get home from work. He loves walks, playing fetch, snoozing on his back, and car rides! He may need a booster seat, but is not shy about sticking his head out the window to feel the breeze in his face! Bo is housebroken, crate trained, and has a slew of tricks up his sleeve. He likes a good walk and has made a lot of progress on his reactivity on walks. A perfect match with Bo would be a strong leader without young children to continue enforcing his training. We would like for Bo's adopters to continue with everything Bo has learned in his time with his trainer, and we will set up a complimentary session with Bo, his new family, and his trainer to make sure everyone gets off on the right paw. If Bo's new family is consistent with his training, and recognizes the diamond in the "ruff" that he is, we are confident that Bo will overcome his insecurities and be a great new family member. Bo is about 3 years old and weighs in at a svelte 12 pounds. He has done well with some female dogs and would probably appreciate a canine lady friend in his new home. If you would like to meet Bo, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Unique and handsome Sandwich first came to TRD from a local shelter as a puppy. He was adopted out, but under socialized in his new home, and he developed issues with the other resident dog, and a lack of confidence in general, which led to his return to TRD. Sandwich is now almost 2 years old, and weighs in at around 80 pounds. We decided to be very proactive with Sandwich's rehab. This guy has a soft spot in our hearts and we want to make sure he gets the chance that he deserves at his best life. Sandwich recently completed a comprehensive board and train program with the Hope 2K9 Foundation. They learned a lot about Sandwich as they worked with him to get him ready for his new forever home. Our friends at Hope 2K9 report that Sandwich is very playful and silly, and he thrives with direction and structure. Sandwich is looking for a home without other pets for now, where his adopter is excited to bond with him and continue building his confidence through any number of activities such as hiking, running, learning agility, or even a good game of tug. Our Hope 2K9 friends worked on many skills with Sandwich. Sandwich is crate trained; is on- and off-leash trained; comes when called; can hold down/stay for an extended length of time; and knows to give up resources on command (food, toys, items he’s smelling). Sandwich tends to be nervous about anything new, and needs patience and guidance to process "scary stuff". Sandwich bonds tightly to his humans once he becomes familiar with them. He is playful and energetic, but doesn’t demand a ton of physical outlet. Although we recommend that Sandwich be the only dog in his new home (that will give him the gentlest transition to his new life), he has put a lot of work into socializing with other dogs. Check out his newfound social skills on Hope 2K9's social media: https://youtu.be/KAQQWjkT0lg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbgXFK0CPAU&t=16s https://www.facebook.com/hope2k9foundation/videos/399698610706487/ Sandwich is a great dog who would offer tons of potential to anyone who wants a companion who is "all about them", and can navigate being left behind as needed. If you'd like to meet Sandwich, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet up with this special guy. show less

Are you looking for a scruffy little ball of love? If yes, then look no further--Yeti is the dog for you. Yeti is a 4-month-old terrier mix who recently came to TRD. He weighs 9 pounds, and we think his full-grown weight will be around 20 to 25 pounds, making him ideal for any living situation. Yeti is great with people--he may be shy for a few minutes when meeting new people but warms up quickly. He is also great with dogs; he would do well in a home with another dog or should be good being an only dog too. He likes to play and wrestle with his canine foster sibling. And for the dog and cat lovers, Yeti is great with cats too! Yeti would love a home with young kids who will dote on him and give me unlimited cuddles. He doesn't mind being left alone but would do better in a home where he has company most of the time. Yeti is a fun, loving, and social pup. He loves to go on walks and play in the yard but his favorite activity is napping. He is a mellow and docile. He is house trained and crate trained. He likes to chew on some inappropriate things like new human's shoe laces but responds well to redirection. He has a people pleasing personality which makes him an easy and fun dog to train. If Yeti is the dog of your dreams and you would like to meet him, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Are you looking for a mature gentleman with a young spirit? Meet Koji! Koji came to TRD when his owner fell on hard times and could no longer care for him. One of our fosters happened to meet Koji when his owner needed a plan for him, and fell for Koji immediately. After hearing his story, and meeting this gem of a dog, we knew he was one of ours. Koji's foster mom reports: "Koji has such a young soul for a senior dog! He has the best wiggle butt when he is excited. He is very adaptable to his environment; when I want to relax he can be a couch potato, but if I want to walk/run/play with him, he is ready to go! He takes a while to warm up to new people but his favorite way of bonding is playing fetch! He also is a TOTAL water dog - he could swim for hours! Beach lover for sure." Koji is about 60 pounds and is 7+ years young. He gets along with other dogs and cats. His skills include Sit, Stay, Come, Down, Name Recall, Shake, and Fetch. He is also quite a gentleman on leash. Koji loves to play and fetch, and can get a little mouthy when he wants to play. Because of this, we think he would do best with older children or an adult-only home. For Koji, experienced dog people will be the best fit for him. If you are looking for wonderful companion with the training and manners of an adult dog, and just a touch of puppy thrown in, Koji may be your guy. If you would like to meet Koji please fill out an adoption application and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Edward is TRD's latest recruit. He is a cairn terrier mix who is full grown at 15 pounds. At 1.5 years, Edward is just the right mix of sweet puppy love with the maturity (and potty training skills) of an adult dog. With his small size, Edward can adjust to most living situations. Edward is an adorable and medium energy dog. He loves to play with his humans and wrestle with his foster canine sibling. He likes to run around in his foster family's yard and loves walk time. He can be shy in new surroundings, and needs slow introductions to new people and dogs. But once he is comfortable, Edward is friendly and playful. After playtime is over, Edward loves to chew on a bone to relax. Edward is completely potty trained and crate trained. He is calm in his crate and naps there when his family is out. Edward has been caught red-handed a couple of times trying to raid the trash, probably a puppy habit that stuck around. He responds well to redirection and training. He also understands Sit, Stay, and Come. He walks well on a leash, but he is occasionally reactive to dogs. He is treat motivated and likes learning new manners and tricks. His forever family will find training him to be a good bonding exercise. Edward's ideal owner would be someone who can confidently introduce him to new people and places. His curiosity and adventurous personality will eventually shine through once he is comfortable. If you would like to meet Edward, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Potential adopters meet Miss Lily! At 6 months of age, this easy-going blonde beauty is searching for her forever home. Lily is a German Shepherd/Lab mix and we expect her to double her current weight of 20 pounds once full grown. Lily came to TRD from a fellow rescue in Mexico. She is last pup of her litter to go up for adoption, as we rescued her littler one puppy at a time. Lily says we saved the best for last. Lily's foster dad describes her as very gentle, sweet, and affectionate. She is enjoying time with the children in her foster home, ages 4 and 6 years. She also gets along with other dogs and enjoys her playtime. In her foster home, Lily seems to particularly fancy stuffed toys. However, she is a chewer at this stage, so something acceptable to gnaw on is really important. Lily is house trained. She currently does not spend time in a crate and her humans only leave her for short periods of time. Walking on a leash is still a bit like tug of war at this point, so working on leash skills with her new family will be a must, and a home with an enclosed yard to run and play would be great. Lily is friendly and eager to please, so with continued training, we expect she would be a great fit for any active household. If you think this young lady may be the perfect addition to your family, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website. One of our adoption counselors will contact you soon. Lily can't wait to meet you! show less

Are you looking for a mischievous and smart pint sized puppy? If yes, Shoji is the puppy for you. Shoji is a 4 month old pug-pekingese mix. He weighs about 12 pounds and should be about 20-25 pounds full grown. Shoji is sweet natured puppy. Shoji has been in his foster home for only a few weeks and he has quickly picked up potty training, house training and general manners around the house. He is great with adults, kids and other dogs in his foster home. Despite his small stature, Shoji loves to run around and play and would thrive in a home with yard access. His tiny legs don't stop him from loving to go on walks in his neighborhood. He is good on the leash. He would do well with another dog in his forever home, but he is more human focused and could do well without with pet pals for company. He is home alone for 4-5 hours a day and although he misses his humans, he is learning to be good about it. His foster mom feels he will fit well in a home where he doesn't have to be home alone all day. Rope and stuffed toys are his favorite. Like many puppies, he has a strange obsession with toilet paper--he thinks its tasty! The humans don't understand because they haven't tried eating it yet. Although Shoji has already mastered many pieces of puppy training, his forever family will have to continue to train him as he grows into an adult dog. Shoji will be a great addition to any family looking to adopt a small breed puppy. If you would like to meet Shoji, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Buccaneer, or Buckeye, as his foster family affectionately calls him, came to TRD from an irresponsible breeding situation in Missouri. Buckeye was born with a damaged eye, likely because of over breeding, but otherwise is perfectly healthy. The breeder was going to euthanize him rather than provide the care needed to address his eye issue. A Good Samaritan was able to intervene and ferry Buckeye to San Diego and TRD. We got Buckeye the surgery he needed, and now he has a permanent (and adorable) swashbuckling wink! According to Buckeye's foster family, Buckeye is such a sweet puppy! He is affectionate with his humans, who include small children. In true beagle fashion, he doesn't bark, he bays. His foster mom reports that so far he has howled only when the resident cat doesn't want to play with him. :) Buckeye gets along great with the cat and the resident dog as well. Buckeye is a great cuddler, and he sleeps through the night in his crate. Buckeye has learned to use the potty pads and has almost mastered his potty training completely. Buckeye is 4 months old as of early August and weighs 15 pounds and climbing. He will be anywhere from 25 to 35 pounds as an adult. If you would like to add one more pirate to your crew, please fill out an application on the TRD website for Buckeye, and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Bambi Boy, a 1-year old beagle-chihuahua mix and, as his name suggests, a boy! Just like his Disney namesake, Bambi is an orphan with a less than ideal start to his life as a stray in Mexico. That was until a kind rescuer took him off the streets, and brought him to the TRD team in sunny San Diego. Bambi is now safe in a foster home, living the good life, learning manners, and getting ready to meet his forever family. According to his foster mom, Bambi is the best boy. He is very loyal to his people and loves to snuggle. He is a playful boy and loves to play with his canine foster brother. He is good with dogs and even cats. He can be shy around men, but with love and positive reinforcement, he will get better. Bambi loves to take walks and ride in the car. He is great on the leash, unlike most puppies. However, like most puppies, he loves to chew on everything he can get his paws on. His forever family will have to train him the basic puppy training so he can be a good canine citizen. Bambi is already crate trained and has almost mastered his potty training. He sleeps in his crate at night and during the day when his family is out. Bambi also loves to take naps with his people. He's still a puppy and loves to play chase with his foster brother. He loves to run as fast as he can and jump on the bed and furniture. Given his past, he can be fearful and sometimes gets spooked easily. His anxiety will subside in time with proper training. His ideal adopters will provide him a calm environment that he needs. He will adjust better in a family with children over 12. He is an active dog and would do best with a family that can walk him and expose him to new things in a patient, loving way. Bambi is a lovable guy and sweet as can be. He's a happy boy and as he gets more socialized, his fun, happy side comes out. If Bambi boy sounds like the dog you want to adopt, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule an introduction. show less

If you are searching for a great family dog with a big personality, TRD may have the perfect canine companion for you. Meet Milagro a.k.a. Mila. Mila is a brown-eyed, caramel-colored beauty who came to us from another rescue in Mexico. She is a German Shepherd/Labrador mix and her weight, when full grown, is expected to be about 40 pounds. She is 5 months old, as of late August, is growing quickly and currently weighs about 15 pounds. According to Mila's foster Mom, Mila gets along very well with the other dogs in the house, loves searching for critters in the backyard and playing with a variety of toys. She particularly enjoys Bully Sticks, as a special treat. Mila is just starting to lose her baby teeth, so having something to chew on is a priority. As a young pup, Mila is still working on her house training. She is doing a good job using her puppy pads and if she goes outside straight from her crate, she does her business like a good girl. Currently, she doesn't like being crated at night, but does a lot better during the day. Mila's ideal home would have a good-sized yard to run and play and a doggie companion would be great too. Since she is still very young, Mila is not left alone for more than a few hours. As yet, Mila hasn't completely mastered leash training, although once you get her hooked up and out the door, she does pretty well. Mila's foster family describes her as curious, playful, and energetic. With continued training, as she matures, Mila will be a wonderful addition to any family. If Mila sounds like just the pup you’ve been searching for, please submit an application and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you soon. Our sweet girl Mila would love to meet you. show less

If you're looking for 60 pounds of love in a 13-pound dog - Kiki could be for you! This unique mix of Staffie and Chihuahua might be one of the cutest mutts out there! Kiki came to us from a local shelter where she was under-socialized for much of her first 8 months of life. After over a month in foster care learning how to be a dog, she's ready to take the next step to her forever home! Kiki loves people of all types, but she appreciates slow introductions with new dog friends. Once she warms up to new dogs, she is playful and fun, but she is still learning to interpret other dogs' language and actions so supervision will be a must for a time. She would do best with a confident, patient owner who is willing to keep up her training progress. She could be an only dog, a cat companion, or a second dog. She prefers dog friends who are calm, balanced, and confident. Kiki knows sit, is crate trained, walks well on a leash and loves chasing balls (she hasn't quite figured out how to bring them back yet!) She also loves running and would make a great running buddy. She's very sporty! If you'd like to give Kiki her best life, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less
