Extra small, energetic, unique, playful with a super funny personality—if these are qualities you are looking for in search of your forever pup, look no further than Uno! Little Uno was found as a stray at only 10 weeks old with no litter mates or mama dog in site. With only one ear there’s the possibility he was dumped from the litter by his owner for this birth defect. We think his one ear gives him a whole bunch of character! This goofy guy is now almost 16 weeks and is happy and healthy with hysterical spurts of puppy energy. Uno has learned a lot from his canine foster sister and is getting the hang of potty training as well as socialization and dog manners. Uno still has some puppy stages to get through like teething and perfecting house training, but he seems motivated and eager to please. He loves to be with his people and is a little shadow to his foster family. Uno gets along with dogs, cats and kids. We suggest a family without babies or toddlers due to his very small size and his current puppy teething/chewing stage. He would be very comfortable and enjoy another canine companion, but doesn’t require this as long as he gets plenty interaction and play time with his family. Uno’s missing ear is the result of a birth defect and was examined under anesthesia by our vet. There is a small ear canal and ear drum but we don’t think he can hear from this ear. He seems to hear fine from his developed ear, and has the cutest head tilt when figuring out where sounds are coming from! Uno should be treated as normal by a vet and be watched for the normal issues that can happen with any ear, such as ear infections. Uno is crate trained when his foster family is out. His foster mom says they absolutely adore him and love his spunky, goofy nature packed into his energetic 3.3 pound body! They say when he’s taking a break from playing he’s a professional snuggler—his favorite spot is curling up on someone’s shoulder or neck on the couch. He’s a playful, social guy that would love to be an inclusive member of an active, loving family. show less

Are you looking for a fun-loving pug mix to light up your life? Meet Freya! Freya is a fun and sporty girl looking for a forever family who will keep her active. She has a fun-loving personality complimented by a ridiculously cute under-bite and crooked tail. According to her foster family, Freya currently walks 3 to 4 times per day around the neighborhood with her canine foster brother. She walks well on the leash but she is a "stop and smell the roses" kind of girl, so she is sometimes easily distracted. Freya loves to explore the trails or beach and rides very well in the car when headed out on a new adventure. Typical of a pug, Freya is very interested in food, and she may have a tendency to gain weight easily so regular exercise will be important. Once the action is over, get ready for some snuggles! Freya is quite the love bug. She adores people and wiggles her entire body to greet old and new friends, making her a great family companion. Freya is good with dogs but prefers the company of dogs of like size or smaller. She is a solid 24 pounds but don't let that fool you ... she has the mind of lap dog and will quickly crawl up next to you for cuddles. She does sleep through the night in her crate but her foster family reports that she is quick to crawl into bed and claim your pillow when allowed. Freya is crate trained and house trained, and at 1 year old as of March 2017, she is the perfect age to start her new life with her forever family. If you would like to meet Freya, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Betty White, and adorable poodle mix who has as much cuteness and personality as her namesake. Betty was posted on a Facebook page as a "give-away". Betty had been with a family whose toddler wasn't being nice to her. A fellow rescuer spotted her and stepped in to save Betty from this unfortunate situation. Betty is fun and young at heart, and at approximately 7 years old as of February 2017, she still has a ton of life and love to share with her new forever family. Betty is a fun, smart little dog who knows several commands, including sit, come, shake, high-five, and roll over. Betty loves a good walk, and also loves playing with her canine foster siblings. She also gets along great with the felines and the children in the household. According to her foster mom, Betty is is always happy and smiling. She likes to cuddle, and will wiggle in underneath your arm if she feels you could pay more attention to her. Even though she is a little older than her foster brothers and sisters she has the most energy of all, and would do well with a family that is somewhat active. Betty is house trained and crate trained. She weighs in at around 16 pounds, which is a great size for most living situations. If you are interested in meeting Betty White, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Lovable Luna came to TRD from the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility. She had been abandoned there as a puppy of about 6 weeks. CHACF wanted to make sure she was properly taken care of and had her best shot at a great home so reached out to the local rescue community. One look at her silly ears and her unique coat, and we knew she was one of ours! Luna has been assessed by our vets at San Carlos Animal Hospital and has a clean bill of health. Luna is about 9 weeks old as of the end of January 2017, and has already shown that she is resilient and smart. As she grows into her puppy paws, she is emerging as active and energetic. Her foster mom also reports that she is sweet. loving, and playful. Luna has started socializing with dogs and people and seems to get along with everyone. (She hasn't met a cat yet!) She has the look of a shiba inu and the coloring of a German shepherd dog. If that is her mix, we predict (just a guess!) that she will be somewhere in the 40-60 pound range full grown. The fun part of adopting a rescue puppy is that you just never know! She is working on her house training and crate training. If you'd like to add this adorable girl to your pack, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Lucky

Male Adult Shih Tzu Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Mixed (mixed) Small

Lucky's story does not have the most fortunate start, but we are going to make sure he lives up to his name with his new forever family!... show more

Lucky's story does not have the most fortunate start, but we are going to make sure he lives up to his name with his new forever family! Lucky was hit by a car in the LA area. A good Samaritan brought him to a local pet ER, and from there we were contacted to see if we could care for and place Lucky. One look at this little cutie and of course the answer was yes! Thankfully, other than being shook up, Lucky did not suffer any injuries. When we first took Lucky in, it became evident that he had been an outside dog. His fur was matted, he had fleas, he didn't know how to behave in a house, and he was unsure of new people. His foster family has been working diligently to socialize him with their pack (both people and dogs.) It takes Lucky a day or two to trust new people, but he quickly becomes a faithful companion. His foster family reports that once he gets comfortable, he wants to be a lap dog. Lucky LOVES food, and begs for it any chance he can. Lucky does well with other dogs, although he does not yet understand how to play with other dogs, or dog toys. This cute little guy weighs in at about 12 pounds and we estimate that he is about 2 years old. If you would like to give Lucky the happy ending he deserves, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less
