Pickles was found wandering by himself in a municipal garbage dump in Mexicali at just 10 weeks old. We don’t know his exact breed, he looks a bit Dalmatian, a bit Pit Bull Terrier, a bit Lab, so we can expect him to be anywhere between a medium to a large size dog. What we do know from his foster family is that Pickles has a very sweet and friendly nature; he is truly a great dog all around. He loves to meet and play with all humans and dogs and to cuddle with his foster family. He also does well with young children and cats. He loves to wrestle with his foster canine brother many times a day but also enjoys exploring on his own and taking naps. Pickles is also clever and obedient! He mastered potty training in just a few days and learned to sit, give paw and stay. He is very food oriented and loves to learn new tricks to get his treats! He loves to please and therefore he is easily redirected if he nibbles or chews something he shouldn’t. He enjoys going on walks and is doing well learning not to pull on his leash. He is crate trained, sleeps all night and even lets his foster family sleep until 9-10 am in the weekends! Bottom line he is a great dog and we can’t wait to find him a great forever family! If you would like to meet Pickles please fill out an application at www.TheRescuedDog.org and his adoption coordinator will be in touch. show less

Meet sweet, adorable Pongo! Pongo is the poster-child for canine resilience: based on his zest for life, you’d never know that he is both deaf and missing a leg! He came to us from Mexicali, where a car had struck him, necessitating the amputation of one of his back legs. After he spent some time in his new foster home, we realized he is also deaf. Despite all this, Pongo loves to run and play, and always has a smile on his face. His big, expressive ears let you know what he wants, which is often to chew on his favorite Nylabone. He is both crate and house trained and good with both dogs and people. Like a typical puppy, he can be very mouthy, so we don’t recommend him for a home with small children. He will need work learning to walk on a leash, as he has spent much of time so far on crate rest, and doesn’t really know what to do on leash (as of now he just tries to chew it off). Pongo is about 25 pounds at 23 weeks old, and we expect he will get just a little bit bigger. He will need some special love and care to meet his needs as a deaf tripod. If this sounds like the kind of home you can provide (for a sweet dog with some special needs), please fill out an application and an adoption coordinator will be in touch. show less

Are you looking for a sporty pup to join you on all your outdoor adventures? Cricket might be the girl for you! Cricket came to us from south of the border where she was found as a stray. She is 9 months old and 30 pounds, but will likely top out at about 35. She is crate and potty trained, learning basic commands and leash walking. She is nervous around new people and new situations so her forever family will need to be patient and introduce her to lots of new experiences. Because she can be nervous and she is likely a herding breed she will do best in a home without young kiddos. Cricket is a very sweet, happy dog who lives belly rubs and just wants to be loved! If you would like to meet Cricket please fill out an adoption application on our website and an adoption coordinator will be in contact. show less

Are you looking for a loving and adorable puppy to join your pack? Meet Tia, a sweet and special girl who came to TRD through a fellow rescuer in Mexico. Tia is a pretty shepherd mix puppy. Her foster family reports that she is sweet and snuggly, and playful with her littermate, with whom she is currently being fostered. Tia would love to have a canine buddy in her future forever family! She is great with other dogs. She's also good with children, and is crate trained and has just about mastered her potty training. Tia will make a wonderful family dog. When we first rescued Tia, we noticed she was having trouble after mealtime holding down her food. Our vets discovered that she has megaesophagus (ME), a manageable but potentially serious condition if not addressed. Essentially, Tia's esophagus is stretched out so that it does not naturally move food down to her stomach. Our vet thinks it's probably a congenital condition. If left unaddressed, ME will cause Tia to regurgitate her food. (Go here for more information on ME: (https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/megaesophagus).) The good news is that the only "treatment" for ME is for Tia to eat upright and let gravity do the work. It does not impact her overall health or longevity. Thankfully, Tia has learned to use her homemade Bailey chair for meals and her wonderful foster family makes sure she takes her time and eats well, and upright. Other than that, Tia is a fun, healthy, typical puppy! She has a laid-back vibe and is a mild-mannered girl who will add a little fun to her new family. Tia is about 16 pounds at 4 months of age, and we think she will be a medium to large sized dog full grown, somewhere in the 50 to 60 pound range. If you are interested in meeting Tia, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch. show less
