We never know what a dog will be like when we rescue them from the shelter. Our Rosie is a great example of a diamond in the rough. She was terrified and very sick, and it took 45 minutes for her foster mom to coax her out of the car that first night. Fast forward two weeks later: after settling into her foster home and finishing a course of antibiotics, Rosie has proven to be a dream dog. She is a sweet as can be! Loves humans (especially men!), playful with other dogs, submissive, gentle, patient and simply happy to be alive. In fact, Rosie is a favorite at the vet and our core volunteers have been fighting over her! She is food motivated and responds quickly to training cues. Rosie originally got her name because she reminded us of a dog named Red, but we think it suits her well because she seems to look at the world through rose-colored glasses. Rosie wins over everyone she meets and we think the family who scores this awesome dog will truly hit the jackpot! If you think Rosie could be a great match for your family, please fill out an application at http://therescueddog.org/adopt/adoption-application/ show less

Dudley was found on the streets of Mexico as a young pup, hairless and emaciated. His Mexico rescuers nursed him back to health and wanted him to find a great home in California. With his shiny, soft poodle coat, it's hard to believe the physical condition Dudley was in just months prior. Despite his rough start, this 6 month old boy is ready for a new life in America. Dudley has a gorgeous wavy poodle coat, long legs, and a muzzle similar to a labrador retriever, which makes us think Dudley is a labradoodle! He is approximately 25lbs and should be 40-50lbs when full grown. This bouncy young puppy is working on his potty training and basic obedience, plays well with other dogs of all sizes, and is good with cats. Dudley loves to chase after tennis balls and pounces on them and other toys when playing. This spunky puppy is ready for any adventure. We think Dudley would be the perfect addition to any family. Itty Bitty is a fun and frisky French bulldog/chihuahua mix looking for an active and loving home. Itty Bitty is currently in a foster home, where his foster family refers to him as "Tod"; (The Other Dog). He gets along well with the family's pooch, does well with dogs off leash, and overall is very social. He does have some leash reactivity in some settings, but he is easily corrected. A firm and loving hand will help Itty Bitty to come into his own. Itty Bitty is very tuned into his human family and friends and is fond of adults and kids alike. Itty Bitty is about 9 months old, which is a great age to start with basic training and canine-human bonding in general. And at 18 pounds, Itty Bitty is a great size for almost any living situation. Itty Bitty's foster family reports that he is potty-trained and crate-trained. This guy has it all: compact, friendly, and even a small underbite! Are you looking for a fun and affectionate guy to join your family? Please contact The Rescued Dog to meet Itty Bitty by filling out our application: (http://therescueddog.org/adopt/adoption-application/). show less

If you've always wanted an Australian Shepherd but prepared to deal with their very high energy level, then Gypsy is the dog for you. Gypsy is a unique mix of australian shepherd and corgi and will have you laughing for days. She looks like a purebred tricolor australian shepherd, just with little corgi legs! Gypsy is very sweet and posses all of the great qualities of an australian shepherd: lively, attentive, eager to please, and loyal, but with a low-moderate energy level. She is great with other dogs and would probably be fine living in a home with cats as well. Gypsy is both house trained and crate trained. She is working on her basic obedience with her foster family and has developed a pretty decent recall while at the local dog beaches. This compact aussie is ready for her forever home! If you are interested in Gypsy please fill out an adoption application at http://therescueddog.org/adopt/adoption-application/ show less

Meet Mochi! This little bundle of love is so compact (just about 20lbs) and petite that her whole body vibrates when she gets excited. It's so fun to watch her little half-tail shake with happiness when she's playing or getting attention. Mochi absolutely LOVES people - this little gal is anything but shy! She gets along great with other dogs as well. She walks well on a leash and learns commands VERY quickly - she learned "sit" and "down" in less than 24 hours at her foster home! Mochi is very smart and clearly understands the humans are in charge. She was let off-leash during her first Fiesta Island trip and was perfect! Greeted dogs and humans with a happy wiggle, checked in with her foster parents, and never strayed from the pack. At just under a year old, Mochi has a lot to learn from this big wide world and she'd love to learn everything in her very own forever home. Are you the family she's been waiting for? If you'd like to meet Mochi, please fill out an Adoption Application (http://therescueddog.org/available-dogs/adoption-application/). show less

Are you looking for a handsome, fun-loving guy to add to your pack? Meet Porter, our ridiculously cute English bulldog mix. Porter was pulled from the San Bernardino County shelter on the day he was set to be euthanized. One look at his adorable mug shot and TRD knew he was for us! Porter is just around one year old and is that funny age where he's not quite a puppy anymore but also not quite an adult. He is very calm for his age, and by all indications will be a mellow, easy-going adult, but he does occasionally engage in puppy-like antics, which are both endearing and amusing. Porter is currently in a foster home with 3 other dogs, and he gets along with everyone well. He also has never met a person he doesn't like, and he seems to be especially fond of children. He would be a great dog for a family with kids and for adopters with existing pets. He would also do well as a single dog, as long as he gets lots of park time and walks around the neighborhood. He is a very social guy! We are not sure how he feels about cats, but our encounters with them on walks indicates that he may actually be afraid of them! Cat introductions would be required for a family with cats. Porter is completely housebroken and loves his crate. Porter also loves going to the park and the beach to socialize with his doggy friends. Once he gets a little exercise, Porter is ready to sack out on the couch and snuggle with his humans. He is a great sturdy size at about 50 pounds. His handsome dark brindle markings turn heads wherever he goes. Are you looking for a goofy, social companion who will make you laugh and love you forever? Contact us so you can meet Porter! For more information on Porter or to set up a meet and greet, please fill out our application (http://therescueddog.org/adopt/adoption-application/). show less

Rizzo is an adorable grey toy poodle. She is about 8lbs and 1-2 years old. Our little Rizzo was found running through traffic on a busy San Diego street. Her fur was matted to the skin and with no collar, tag, or microchip, it was clear Rizzo did not have an owner. If you're looking for a sweet loyal dog that you can take anywhere Miss Rizzo is your gal. This little princess loves kids, and is comfortable around other dogs. We think Rizzo would do fine with cats as well. Rizzo loves to hit the town, people are her thing and if you want a companion for a festival or a walk through Old Town she'd be right there with you. This little lover is potty trained, leash trained, UTD on shots and spayed. All she needs is her fur-ever family that she can love unconditionally. show less

Milan is a tiny "pocket-boxer" with a heart of gold. No more than a year old, Milan had been bred, neglected, and held as evidence in an animal cruelty case. Despite her rough start, Milan shows a will to live and a strong drive to please her owners. Since she has been with us, Milan has come from an emaciated 38lbs to a healthy 52lbs, is gaining confidence outside of the home, is crate and potty trained, and is working on her basic obedience. Milan loves the company of other dogs and like a typical boxer, Milan believes she is a lap dog! She loves nothing more than to be talked to and her inquisitive head-tilting makes her at times seem human. Clear off a small place on your couch and make room for our little Milan! If you think Milan could be for you, please fill out our application (http://therescueddog.org/adopt/adoption-application/). show less

Zoey is the cutest, happiest, bounciest puppy around! At about 9 months old, this little girl is ready to be taught the ways of the world! She loves everyone she's met, 2 and 4 legged alike and is extremely eager to please (which will make for easy training sessions!). She slept through the night the first night she was in a crate in her foster home without a peep and she's in the process of being potty trained and learning her basic obedience. She's confident enough to play with dogs bigger than her yet submissive enough to know when to back off. She currently weighs about 22lbs at 9 months old and we expect her to be about 30lbs fully grown - perfect sized dog for any environment! Come meet this sweet wigglebutt for yourself... Zoey would love to meet you! show less

Looking for your new best friend? Your search stops here! Rocky is everything you could want in a young dog. This ~9 month old boxer/labrador mix loves other dogs of all sizes and gets along great with children. He posses the characteristics of both the boxer (goofy, wiggly, friendly) and the labrador retriever (cheerful, eager to please, steady-tempered) and has proven to be an avid swimmer. His slight underbite will always put a smile on your face! Rocky loves toys and is very capable of entertaining himself, which is a great characteristic in a pup! Although an active young pup, Rocky loves nothing more than to take a nap on the couch alongside his family. It took some coordinating and 3 transporters to finally get little Ranchera to San Diego! This hard work was well worth it because Ranchera is definitely one of a kind. Her breed is a bit of a mystery to everyone, but we think she might best resemble a boxer/corgi mix. Absolutely adorable at 3 months of age, she is a healthy 20 lbs with a beautiful, soft brindle coat. We imagine her to grow into a medium sized dog at around 50 lbs. Her clumsy oversized white paws, her inquisitive head tilt, or just her down time snuggle, will warm your heart and keep you smiling. Ranchera is currently in a foster home with 2 other dogs and a young child. Her foster family is working on crate training and basic commands. She would do best in an active home. If you think Ranchera is your next family member, please fill out our application (http://therescueddog.org/adopt/adoption-application/) show less
