Meet Walter! Walter is a Beautiful dog looking for a loving home. It’s hard to believe someone would leave Walter behind. That someone was his family, who had him since he was a puppy. They moved away and left him. No food or water for him. Left in a cold wet field, next to his fenced house. A kind mail carrier fed him when she could. Her coworker knew Walter’s from 11/2–2 years prior, a little puppy. She remembers when she first saw him, when the family got the puppy. The workers were very shocked that they had left Walter behind. I received a call that a dog was in bad shape, and very depressed. They didn’t think the dog would last much longer. He had been there 3 weeks and no one had came back for him. So I went up to the Dogs location and I could not believe what I was seeing. A handsome guy who could hardly walk, because he was so weak. He was so happy to see someone and still wagged his tail . He had to be picked up to be placed in the car. He was hungry, but very thirsty. He was dirty from being outside in the field. He was also very cold. He had been left in the rain and the foggy weather. I covered Walter with blankets, and he went to sleep. He never moved while we drove home. We went to my groomer for a nice warm bath. One ear had a horrible infection. The smell was so bad. Within a few days we got him a vet appointment. The smell was so bad that it needed attention right away. Surgery was scheduled. We had no choice but to get the ear flushed, cleaned out, and there was a piece that needed to be sewn up. Walter’s did great. The ear is healed and the infection is gone. He is happy and active. He walks great on a leash, loves to play ball. He plays really well with kids. My grandkids love to see him. He also likes to be touched. He will touch you with his paw for more loving, hugs are his favorite thing . The fosters are an older couple. They have Walter house trained. He goes to the door to go pee and poop. He has never went pee in the house. There are three very small dogs in the house, who Walter tries to play with. But they are older. They don’t want to be bothered by him . The couple always keeps food, separate and picked up. So there are no food problems between all the dogs. Walter will eat in the morning and night. He goes out and does his business and sleeps through the night. There is also a feral cat Walter has seen in the yard - that the fosters feed. Foster said he really doesn’t care about the cat. At the groomers I noticed a cat on their counter. I did think no not a cat, but Walter put his nose on her nose, and that was it. I’m not saying, he’s totally cat friendly. But he did not go after the cat at the groomers. He rides good in the car. every appointment he is in the back area and lays down. No barking or crying. He will reach around to kiss my granddaughter on the cheek. Walter needs someone who wants to take him on walks, play ball, and he enjoys TV. He has become a great house dog. I think he appreciates being inside. He would make a great addition to a family. Right now, Walter is in the older Foster’s home. They try their best to take him out in the front yard but for very short periods of time. He doesn’t get the exercise he needs. Walter is fixed and vaccinated. He is a young and happy dog. Walter’s would love to find his forever home! Adoption fees: Adult: 1-6 yrs $400.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHPP, DHLPP and Rabies. We deworm each dog and chip. Lastly, we spay or neuter each of our dogs. Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. It should be noted that our adoption counselors know the dogs and can best guide any possible adopter with a suitable match. Please visit https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs for the adoption application! We are always in need of experienced fosters for the amount of dogs we have coming in.
