Helen came to CalPaws at 6 weeks old and a meager 1lb. The smallest runt of her litter, a life in the shelter had taken its toll on her tiny body. With the help of a wonderful veterinary volunteer and an entire rescue at her back, Helen fought hard for her precious little life!   Just one week after coming in to rescue she gained an almost entire pound! She is strong, she is beautiful and true to her namesake Helen of Troy, a war was fought to save her beautiful life.  Helen is a quiet beauty. She is very observant where her siblings were adventurous. She is shy where her siblings were outgoing. But this tiny girl is an absolute delight. Every day she grows stronger, bigger and more sure of herself. She has the sweetest little bark and makes the tiniest little growls as she plays with her sister Cricket. Helen loves her foster siblings and is very fond of the adult female husky in the house. She tousles around and plays followed by lengthy naps and snuggles. If Helen had her way she would spend her entire day snuggled up on the chest of her foster mom.  This little girl loves to love! Helen would fit in well with a gentle older dog since she is still quite small. She has not met any cats yet but will be tested with a cat as soon as she has more vaccinations and it is safe for her to venture outside. It’s likely she will do well since she is considerably smaller than most house cats! DNA test is pending results but it’s believed that she is mixed with border collie and German shepherd, mom is definitely German shepherd. Please reach out if you would like more information on this sweet tiny love Puppy: up to 1 yr $450.00 Our dogs are spayed/neutered and a registered chip. For our puppies they are up to date on vaccinations.  Once adopted it is the new owner’s responsibility to continue the remaining vaccinations with a veterinarian. Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. It should be noted that our adoption counselors know the dogs and can best guide any possible adopter with a suitable match. Please visit https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs for the adoption application! We are always in need of experienced fosters for the amount of dogs we have coming in. Everyone meet Helen, Helen came in to rescue at just a few weeks old. She was dropped off at an ER vet with a large laceration almost wrapping her whole body and disoriented walking. Animal Services called us and asked if we could give her a chance. We of course said yes and said all we could do was try to save this little one.  Quickly, we learned that Helen wasn’t only physically injured but she was also visually impaired. She had trouble seeing and kinda did circles. She was frantic about food. As time has gone on she has learned to not let her vision bother her, her wound has healed and she is ready to fly the coup. She is 11 weeks old. There may be a surgery that can help with the vision correction in one eye but it’s not medically necessary. She does not require any medical for the eyes at this time. Helen is looking for a special adopter who will work with her and the obstacles that can come with a visual impairment. Puppy: up to 1 yr $450.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHLPP and Rabies. We deworm each dog and chip. Lastly, we spay or neuter each of our dogs. Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. It should be noted that our adoption counselors know the dogs and can best guide any possible adopter with a suitable match. They spend their days playing outside and learning to potty in designated areas, while inside they are already working on potty pad training as well. They’re also working on recall with basic hand signals and squeaky toys, and are gentle at taking treats from small hands. Mimi’s favorite thing is cuddling in bed or on the couch with her foster mom, bu usually waits to be invited. She loves that almost as much as she loves watching the resident tree squirrels and waiting for an opportunity to chase them along the fence. And, boy, does that girl love food, which makes her a natural for training. She currently is a pro at “sit,” “down,” and “no.” And would do anything to please. Mimi is working on “off” and practicing her leash manners.  Mimi tolerates but isn’t a fan of the vacuum. But then neither is her foster mom 🙃 she has never had an “accident” in the house and is respectful of her home.  The resident cat watches Mimi, who is fascinated by her. However she has never chased the cat, and they can coexist peacefully on the bed. She also hangs out with the other resident, the  elderly 90 pound GSD. They don’t really play together but like to hang out.  As a young 2-3 year old, Mimi loves playing fetch and going on walks and hikes. But she is just as happy laying in the backyard and watching squirrelvision.  Mimi’s ideal home would be one with older respectful children or active adults. It seems she would prefer to be an only dog. She is definitely very tightly bonded to her humans and would be a wonderful addition to any home. show less
