Meet Layla, a 4-month-old Belgian Malinois puppy! Layla loves to play, learn and snuggle with her humans and other dogs. She is currently being fostered in a busy home with three adult dogs of all sizes plus a cat and is doing well with all of the action. Layla needs a loving family that will be dedicated to training and exercising her both physically and mentally. She is a typical malinois puppy with a high drive that aims to please. She is a confident-quick learner and is food and praise-motivated. Experience with a working breed would be preferred. She would do best in a home with another dog to play with and continue her socialization and corrections. She is crate trained, has been doing great with potty training, and knows basic commands including sit, down, spin, and drop it along with her name. She has been on leash inside of the home and in the yard and will walk appropriately with corrections. Five weeks ago we brought a dog into the rescue from the Central Valley, we named her Mia. Shortly after her arrival we determined she was pregnant and too far along to do anything about it. So we were there when she gave birth to 8 puppies. We have the DNA, which I have posted. These puppies will be medium size dogs. We have four boys and 4 girls. They will be officially able to go home in 4 weeks. They are really sweet pups. Mama Mia was a wonderful mum, she is done nursing the pups. They are working on potty training, (we introduce grass pads and pellets at about 2 weeks. So they mostly have the concept down already. Our adoption fees are $450.00. This includes the following for each puppy…DHPP/ Leptospirosis, Bordetella, Rabies, chip, spay/neuter. This means each puppy will be fully vetted when the actual adoption is completed. We do like puppies to be in a home with another dog as we find most of the puppies learn more of the social skills from one another. After Covid it is important that it is understood the importance of socializing a puppy. The puppies are currently being fostered in Martinez and would be able to be viewed prior to adoption. We do complete a phone interview, a home visit as well as an application being completed to start the process.  Please read this before considering adopting a puppy: https://www.calpaws.org/puppy-adoptions If you are interested in adopting one of the pups, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. This is Zena, she was recently pulled from the Fresno Animal Shelter. The one floppy ear has created a Nick name of Bunny. Her intake picture almost looks like a halo is hovering over her. So far, she has been a total angel. She travels well, she is crate trained, she sits like a perfect young lady. She has already figured the doggie door, housed trained, sweet, gentle and smart! Her birthday is listed as 04/06/2021 and she is lovely. A Mal mix, she is actually a pretty calm puppy. She is good with big dogs, good inside and outside. Her halo intake card said she was surrendered because they could not afford her. So our little Bunny will have a great life, a family that can afford her. We can also tell you where ever she came from, she was loved. She is a confident and secure dog. Please research this breed before considering adoption. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Cornelius is  a 75lbs, 4 yr old Mastiff mix. Cornelius was surrendered to the shelter on 12/9.  His owner had died.  He was afraid and it took some work from the volunteers to get him out of his kennel into the yard.  The volunteers continually worked with him and he kept improving.  Unfortunately, he was set to be put to sleep the week of 1/18. The Stanislaus volunteers came together and CalPaws agreed to take Cornelius in.  When we assessed him, we could see he was fearful at first but then warmed up to the people around him. He is curious about other dogs but is fearful at first.  We’re working with a trainer to get a full assessment.  Right now, he’s decompressing at a home away from the resident dogs.  We took him to a local pet store,  where there were no other dogs and he did well with strangers as long as they did not approach him too fast or from behind. The perfect home for Cornelius would be a family with older teenage kids who have had dogs before.  Cornelius needs to have a large yard for him to do his zoomies and get his energy out.  Right now we would have him as an only dog but if a family has their heart set on him and they have another dog, we will have our trainer assess the situation for  compatibility. Probably best with no cats either. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Hi my name is Sadie. I am two years old, I was pregnant and alone. I gave birth to my puppies behind an old warehouse. For six months people came and saw me and my babies. They took some of my puppies, but they left me behind. One day two women came and trapped me. I was so tired and I just relaxed in my trap. People told the ladies I was feral and vicious, but I wasn’t, I was just scared. Now I am in rescue and I have a wonderful foster home. My foster mom says I am a sweet angel and very loving. I love to sit on laps and I give lots of hugs and kisses. I am polite and I wait till I am told to leave my kennel. I am obedient and just want to please. I love to walk, I love listening to my foster mom. I am such a good girl I never make a mess in my kennel. I like to keep it clean. I met house cat and I didn’t mind him, I just walked by. I even met the house dogs, they barged at me, but o did not mind. barked at me. I was not treated well by a few people so I am shy around my foster dad, but with time, love and patience, I know I can love him to. When my foster mom takes me to the backyard, I will sit in her chair, if she’s not fast enough. I have a funny sense of humor. I love to put my front paws around your neck and lay my head on your shoulder. Then I give you lots of kisses. I walk well on a leash and I sit when I’m told to by my foster mom. She has never heard me bark, I am very quiet. I love people and I want to be close to everyone. I have all my shots, and I am spayed. I just need a loving family! 💜🐾💜 Please research this breed before submitting an application or inquiry. Stormy is a two year old Belgian Malinois. She is extremely intelligent and very affectionate, but needs time to warm up to people. We think she did not have a lot of socialization prior to coming to us, so she is still learning to channel her anxiety and that the world can be a fun, safe place. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 0 to 2 yrs, $400 for dogs 2 yrs, $350 for dogs 3 to 5 yrs, and $300 for 6 yrs and older. Please follow Calpaws K9 rescue on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CalpawsK9Rescue) for updates on our dogs. Say hello to Stormy! Stormy is a two year old Belgian Malinois. She is extremely intelligent and very affectionate, but needs time to warm up to people. We think she did not have a lot of socialization prior to coming to us, so she is still learning to channel her anxiety and that the world can be a fun, safe place. Are you looking for a sweet, intelligent, goofy, and extremely energetic dog companion? WELL THEN LOOK NO FURTHER!! Stormy the Belgian Malinois is all that and a bag of chips! She is a sweet, sassy girl that loves to play with other dogs (mostly male, but can get along with submissive females). She’s two years young and bursting with spunky energy. But wait, there’s more!! Aside from being unbelievably smart and eager to please, Stormy is very agile and can run, jump, and balance with the best of them! When Stormy isn’t zooming around showing off her fantastic skills or playing tug-o-war, she wants to be next to her human and is a very enthusiastic snuggler (she may think she’s a lapdog). Stormy would love to show off her stupendous talents to a home with working dog experience and with no small children or small animals because she has a lot of prey drive (never worry about rodents bothering your yard again!) RUN, DON’T WALK and fill out an application at CalPaws.org to meet this spectacular specimen of doggy love. We are accepting foster and foster-to-adopt applications for this girl as well (not because she’s a problem, because she’s bonding so much with her foster family we want to move her now to make process easier for her when she is adopted )!! She can’t WAIT to meet you! Stormy is about two years old and fully vetted. Stormy needs an experienced adopter that is familiar with her breed and committed to continuing her training and socialization, as well as giving her plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Consistency with her training will be extremely important for her to help build her confidence and security. More pictures might be available on https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs at a later time. Please research this breed before submitting an application or inquiry. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Chewy is a beautiful male German Shepherd mix, approximately 4 years old. He has a sweet disposition and is very gentle. He has good energy, enjoys his walks and does very well on them, and likes to play with other dogs. It didn’t take him long to take a alpha role with our GSD mix, and they play together all day long. Chewy can get a little intense/rough, but with a firm command or even a short time-out, he calms right down and is his delightful, sweet self again. He just needs consistency. He’s not that into toys or fetch. He’s very smart and has excellent recall. He is very good with people. He will bark when someone comes to the door but quiets down quickly. He is crate-trained and sleeps quietly all night long. An all around great dog and very loving. Please research this breed before submitting an application or inquiry. Meet George Burns and Gracie Allen They are a five to eight year old pair that were found three weeks apart. Volunteers went out to trap Gracie after finding out that she had been out hiding alongside an aqueduct for about seven weeks. After 48 hours of trapping they were able to get her back to safety with the help of Cal fire. Two weeks and five days later we had a call from one of our followers that her husband had assisted in pulling a golden retriever out of the same area but this time he was drowning in the aqueduct. They truly saved his life. With it being a bit of a coincidence that they both came from the same area with the same injuries and the same wear to their teeth, we decided to introduce them to see if there was a spark. Let me tell you two dogs I never saw wag their tails and always kept their heads down and were fearful of just about everything, lit up like fireworks with a  tail wag and that look in their eyes you could tell they were happy to be reunited. After a trip to the emergency room and medically cleared after some procedures they are both up and ready for adoption. We would love to see them go into a home together but would be willing to separate them as well as long as there was another confident dog in the home that would help him adjust. They are both described as low energy love bug. They would love to play ball for a little bit in the yard but will also “Netflix & chill” on a Friday night in. George is heavier set and is on a diet so he would love a walking partner. Gracie loves to go with too. Please research this breed before submitting an application or inquiry. Loud noises don’t startle or bother him, including screaming and running kids at the park. He would do well with older kids (8+ years), unknown among littles and cats. Lisa is a 4 year old Dutch Shepherd a great guard dog, she takes a while to warm up but over all a sweet girl. She is very active and vocal and is obsessed with tennis balls, she loves to play catch. she will need an active owner or an active family to take her on walks. Lisa does good with children,  a little apprehensive with smaller dogs she will likely thrive as an only dog. Update: Lisa is up to date on her shots and she is ready for her forever home. She is getting better everyday with her listening skills. She adores her humans once she trusts them. Lisa is strong willed but frequent training sessions are helping her slow down, master basic commands and relax. Lisa does well with kids, she met a toddler recently and was so gentle with him. She takes a little longer to warm up to men than to women, but does ok once she starts to trust the person. Lisa loves playing fetch in the water too!    She will benefit from an experienced adopter who will continue to work with her and focus her energy with walks and training. Lisa loves the crate and it is her relaxing spot. She also travels without issues - she has ventured into the Yosemite mountains multiple times with her foster family. Lisa is the sweetest Dutch Shepherd you ever met. Slow to warm up but an absolute sweetheart. She knows her basic commands, easy to walk, crate trained and loves to snuggle, as long as her toys are not in sight ;) Lisa is obsessed about the ball. She will play fetch all day long, but will also rest quietly if you tell her that playtime is done (provided you hide the ball). At her foster home, she has blossomed into a comfortable, sweet and relaxed doggie! She goes for a walk in the morning and stay in the crate most of the day with little breaks. She has another walk in the evening, ball playtime, training, brushing and lots of snuggles. She sleeps all night without a problem. Lisa is wicked smart - she can sniff a ball out from a mile away and will do really well with some agility training.    A perfect family for Lisa is one that can keep her on a schedule, take her for 2 short walks a day, and keep Lisa stimulated with training. She will do well with a family that understands how to set boundaries, yet give her the snuggles she needs. Lisa does well with other dogs (she does not really care for anything beyond her toys and her people :)) but she will also thrive as an only dog. If you are looking for a companion that can hang by your side wherever you go, this is the perfect dog for you!  More pictures might be available on https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs at a later time.
