Meet Ranger! On Memorial Day weekend, our lives were forever changed when my daughter, Kira, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 8 years old. The news was overwhelming, and we faced the daunting task of managing her insulin shots. Amidst the uncertainty, our foster puppy, Ranger, became an unexpected source of strength and inspiration. Ranger had come into our lives under difficult circumstances. He was attacked by his mom, leaving him with a broken jaw that required surgery and a GI tube for feeding. Despite his injuries, Ranger showed an incredible spirit of resilience. His determination to heal mirrored the journey Kira was about to embark on. Kira was terrified of needles. The sight of an insulin syringe brought tears to her eyes, and the thought of multi injections a day was paralyzing. As parents, we did our best to comfort her, but it was clear she needed more support. Ranger, with his bandaged jaw and brave heart, became her unexpected ally. One evening, as Kira and I sat on the couch, dreading her next shot, Ranger trotted over, his movements a bit slower but no less determined. He sensed her fear and anxiety. Ranger had a way of knowing when someone needed comfort, and despite his own pain, he was always there to provide it. Kira’s tears began to subside as she focused on Ranger. She gently stroked his soft fur, finding solace in his presence. Ranger wagged his tail and licked her hand, a gesture that seemed to say, "You can do this. I'm here with you." Inspired by Ranger's support, we decided to involve him in Kira’s insulin routine. We placed a treat on the counter and showed it to Ranger, who watched intently. Then, with Ranger by her side, Kira took a deep breath and prepared her insulin shot. She kept one hand on Ranger's back, feeling his steady heartbeat beneath her palm. "Good boy, Ranger," Kira whispered as I injected her. Ranger's presence seemed to give her the courage she needed. After each shot, Ranger would get his treat, a small reward for being Kira’s steadfast companion. As days turned into weeks, Kira’s confidence grew. She still had moments of fear, but Ranger was always there to offer comfort and encouragement. His unwavering support made the process a little less daunting. Watching him recover from his own injuries gave a sense of perspective and strength. If Ranger could endure surgery and heal from a broken jaw, she could manage Ranger's impact extended beyond the practical aspects of managing diabetes. He brought joy and laughter into our home during a difficult time. His playful antics and loving nature reminded us all that there was still so much to be grateful for. Memorial Day weekend had started as a time of fear and uncertainty, but with Ranger's help, it became a story of resilience and love. Our foster puppy had become a hero, showing us that even in the face of challenges, the bond between a child and her dog could bring strength and hope. Ranger is now looking for a family to call his own. Puppy: up to 1 yr $450.00 Our dogs are spayed/neutered and a registered chip. For our puppies they are up to date on vaccinations.  Once adopted it is the new owner’s responsibility to continue the remaining vaccinations with a veterinarian.
