Goose came to us broken and defeated. He is still wanting to please, but worried. He loves to snuggle with his foster mom. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. We are not a shelter and do not have a facility. All our dogs are in foster homes. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 0 to 2 yrs, $400 for dogs 2 yrs, $350 for dogs 3 to 5 yrs, and $300 for 6 yrs and older Please follow Calpaws K9 rescue on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CalpawsK9Rescue) for updates on our dogs. Goose is a 9 months old GSD mix. He is tall, lanky and he is super shy. He came to us along with his brother Wyatt. We split them up so they could each come into their own. Goose has been exposed to kids, cats and other dogs. He has been in a busy home, but did best in a more quiet environment. He does love other dogs, in fact he loves Piglet. Although to be honest everyone loves Piglet. We are thinking Goose could do well in a home that is not super active, but allows him to be more social. This boy does not have a mean bone in his body. He is gentle, sweet and when you are not paying attention, he will climb up close to you to cuddle. Btw, he does suffer from being a kleptomaniac. Things will go missing!!! Not destroyed, just missing…. Please research this breed before considering adoption. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Experience with obedience training is definitely required. We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. We are always in need of experienced fosters for the amount of dogs we have coming in. Being a foster is such a rewarding experience. Max is a 75lb. 3.5 year old German Shepherd and is as playful as he is beautiful. Max is a recent graduate of Intermountain Mannered Mutts where he received training, and it really shows. Max is well mannered on the leash, house trained, and crate trained. Max LOVES to play ball and would best match with an active family that would take him on walks, hikes, or even runs (as he does with his foster dad). We are still working with Max on his off-leash recall, but he is improving! Any off-leash activities should be in a fenced area. Max plays nicely with other dogs after proper introductions, but he thinks kitty cats are an appetizer. Max came to CalPaws after a stay at the Stockton shelter where the great folks at the Animal Protection League identified him as a good candidate for adoption after training. Max has all the classic mannerisms of German Shepherds and is truly a fantastic example of the breed. Please research this breed before submitting an application or inquiry. Piglet  is super short, a little round and he is the social butterfly. According to Piglet, everyone is there to see him. He has just the right personality, which is loving and affectionate. This makes up for the naughty things he does. Hard to be mad at this adorable face…btw, he does snort while he sleeps. Piglet does have a love affair with a few of the household cushions, he does not like anyone or anything to be left out and he likes to share his love. We have thought about a name change, something to rhyme with Thumper, but really he is the perfect Piglet. He is being neutered this Friday and we are hoping this helps deminintish his “Romeo” tendencies. We think piglet is about 8 to 10 months old. This is Porsche, he is a male hound mix and a pretty big and beautiful boy. We first learned about Porsche and his story a few months ago. Porsche was living in a horrible hoarding situation. Let me introduce you to Porsche, a three and a half year old Bloodhound – Rottweiler. This sweet boy has had a rough start to his life. Born in January of 2018 from an accidental litter of puppies, Porsche was picked up in March of 2018 by his new owner. Unfortunately, Porsche’s owner suffered from mental illness and did not give this sweet boy the life he deserved. He endured three years of abuse and came from a terrible hoarding situation, in which he would go days without food sometimes. He was lucky enough to have a neighbor who cared about him and always watched out for him—she would feed him over the fence and bring him over to her house to play with her dogs whenever she got the chance. As Porsche’s owner’s mental health declined and he escaped from his yard, he was picked up by animal control and set out for a new chance at life. Shortly after, Porsche’s original owner, lost his life as he was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident.  Thanks to CalPaws K9 Rescue and the wonderful community of Livermore for their donations, Porsche was pulled and placed in a foster home with his neighbor’s family. The donations were used to place Porsche in a board and train where he could relearn to trust humans again and teach him some manners. As he was raised in a hoarding situation, he has been adjusting very well to a normal home life and learning how to be loved. He is housebroken, stays off of furniture and loves to lay next to his foster mom while she works from home. Porsche is a very noble dog and loves to use his nose and he would do very well with a job—perhaps he may even make a great hunting companion. He is a high energy dog, loves to go on walks and he would make a great running partner! He is not reactive to dogs and when he encountered his foster moms cat, he stayed in his place and did not chase her. He is interested but not overly anxious when he encounters other animals. While Porsche is a great dog and very loyal, he can tend to be a bit mouthy so he will need a strong owner and preferably placed in a home with no small children. His forever family will need to have a strong and confident pack leader, as he is a stubborn breed and can be a bit bossy. It is also important for his forever home to have a large yard for him to run and use his nose.  Please help us find the sweet boy a loving family to spend the rest of his life with. If you’re interested in adopting Porsche and would like to set up a meet and greet, please reach out to CalPaws K9 Rescue. Thanks again to our amazing community for giving this sweet boy a second chance at life. Please share this post and help us find him the forever home he deserves so much! If you are interested in meeting this amazing dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Experience with obedience training is definitely required. We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is our website, it is still available. Hi StellaLuna here see this head tilt I am confused on why I am still in my foster home. Maybe these humans didn’t tell the story right! So here it is! My name is StellaLuna I am 8 months old and spent 3 months in the county jail. Ok maybe not jail maybe just the shelter but for a puppy like me it felt like jail at times. I am pretty amazing! I love my people and love to be with them. Looking for a family , maybe someone that works from home or is retired but can still deal with my puppy Energy. I LOVE other dogs friends, walks, play time and of course I am a great eater! I have to say after being alone in my kennel at the shelter I kinda hate being alone now but I am working with a doggie therapist (a trainer the humans call it) to make me no so sad when my people are away. If you willing to meet me let the humans here know! Thanks for taking your time to read my story. Can’t wait to meet you soon! Zoe is an absolutely stunning GSD that was found running loose in Clayton. She apparently had been on her own for a week. People were afraid to approach her but Breann with Calpaws trapped her. We are guessing she was a Covid puppy and the owners got tired of her and trying to train her and maybe went back to work. Who really knows but their loss and our gain!! Zoe is young – estimating 11 months and approximately 65 lbs. Fast forward to her life in her foster home. Zoe is a BIG GSD but an absolute LOVE. This girl is so sweet and loving. She loves to lick you and kind of nuzzle her roomie dogs. Her roomie dogs are ALL sizes from Dachshunds to Corgi size. She towers over them but for the most part is pretty good about not bowling them over. Zoe is obsessed with water. She loves playing in the hose spray, kiddie pools and her foster Mom even has to crate her to take a shower as she is afraid she might join in. You can’t water your garden unless she gets to play in the hose spray! Zoe is large and strong so a family with older kids would be best. She is good with the resident cats. Curious but leaves them alone. She will try to chase cats she sees on walks and squirrels!! Zoe is crate trained, housebroken and does very well being harnessed in while riding in a car. She is young and while she has been learning commands from her foster Mom and fellow dogs, definitely could benefit from professional/formal dog training classes. Zoe’s ideal home would be an active family that trains her properly, likes hiking, trips and an active lifestyle. She is good with other dogs and perhaps dogs closer to her size and age. If interested, please fill out an application at Calpaws.org or ask any questions please go to cpk9rescue.inquiries@gmail.com She is current on vaccines, microchipped and spayed. Little Miss Hope wants to say “hello.” Hope has been with us a little long than we would like, just because we normally work with large dogs and we really don't have the following for the little ones, such a Hope! Although, if you ask Hope, she will tell you she is a big dog. Hope is fun, loving and a snuggle bug. Her perfect home would continue to expose her to life out side the home. Her adopter would continue to work on training so she continues to bloom. Hope came to us after her previous owner threw her from a car. Sadly she broke her leg, but now it appears to be healed. Hope would do best with older children and a confident dog in the home. Please share Hopes story and we can find her the most amazing home! Murphy is a very sweet boy who absolutely loves attention. He is silly, clumsy and so adorable. He is vocal and will talk to you when he wants something. Murphy loves attention when he can get it without his sister interfering. He will make a great addition to any family but will need patience and training. Makenna is an attention hog. She likes belly rubs and bossing her brother around. She is very smart and with guidance and training she is going to make an amazing companion. She is definitely going to be a bigger girl as she towers over her brother. Murphy and Makenna are typical puppies. They are mouthy and like to puppy bite feet and hands. They are obsessed with shoes especially when your feet are in them. We are working on going potty outside and when access is available they are pretty good about it. They currently sleep through the night and potty on the potty pads when in their p Odin is a social bug who is all about people and loves to be next to the action. He is involved in whatever his pack  are doing and will steal the spotlight with his ultimate puppy eyes and desire to have belly and head rubs. He loves getting into whatever his sister has scoped out and frequently takes up most of her space. He wants to know what’s going on and once he figures it out, he makes it all about him. Mabel is a total sweetheart. She is very inquisitive and an observer. She likes to show you how well she behaves. She is diligent with her intentions and she is usually the one to initiate and then leave her brother to get caught in shenanigans. Such a clever girl. She likes to be loved on and will gladly accept head rubs but appreciates her own space too.  They both love water, I can’t keep their bowls full or clean for long because they play and paw in it and they like to carry their bowls around like it’s a statement. They are great with kids and cats and they have brought the best out of my resident dog. They are super star learners and have adjusted so well to potty and sleeping routines.  If you are interested in meeting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Ash is extremely sweet and loves to snuggle with her foster mom and her foster fur siblings. She does not let being a tri-pawd slow her down! She loves to run, wrestle, and play with the German Shepherds in her foster home. However, this girl is all Malinois and should be in a working dog savvy home without small children or animals. She is extremely intelligent with high drive and will play ball for hours, but can be very mouthy in typical Mal fashion. When she is not playing, Ash’s favorite thing is cuddling up on the couch next to her people. Cabana is believed to be around 10 months old. She was found when scratching at the front door at 2:30am a couple of weeks ago. She had recently been adopted from the shelter but after just a week was no longer wanted by her adoptee. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccines and micro-chipped. She is a friendly, high energy puppy, who loves to play fetch, bury bones, eat sticks, roll over for belly rubs, give kisses and cuddle. Cabana loves car rides and does really well walking on a leash. She knows the commands for sit, shake, down, get your toy and is still working on “stay”. Cabana would do great with active owners. She still has a ton of puppy energy and would benefit going on daily runs, hikes, outdoor adventures, etc. Cabana prefers to be with her people and is happiest when she is getting attention, playing or laying at your feet. I would not recommend Cabana live with any cats however I do believe that after proper training and time to get comfortable, she would do great with another dog. She doesn’t appear to be aggressive with other dogs, but she is definitely fearful which causes her to bark at them. (She has a very loud bark) She does great with people and is very friendly, but she is still working on not jumping up on everyone, so would do best in a home that does not have kids younger than middle school. Five weeks ago we brought a dog into the rescue from the Central Valley, we named her Mia. Shortly after her arrival we determined she was pregnant and too far along to do anything about it. So we were there when she gave birth to 8 puppies. We have the DNA, which I have posted. These puppies will be medium size dogs. We have four boys and 4 girls. They will be officially able to go home in 4 weeks. They are really sweet pups. Mama Mia was a wonderful mum, she is done nursing the pups. They are working on potty training, (we introduce grass pads and pellets at about 2 weeks. So they mostly have the concept down already. Our adoption fees are $450.00. This includes the following for each puppy…DHPP/ Leptospirosis, Bordetella, Rabies, chip, spay/neuter. This means each puppy will be fully vetted when the actual adoption is completed. We do like puppies to be in a home with another dog as we find most of the puppies learn more of the social skills from one another. After Covid it is important that it is understood the importance of socializing a puppy. The puppies are currently being fostered in Martinez and would be able to be viewed prior to adoption. We do complete a phone interview, a home visit as well as an application being completed to start the process.  Please read this before considering adopting a puppy: https://www.calpaws.org/puppy-adoptions If you are interested in adopting one of the pups, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Her birthday is listed as 04/06/2021 and she is lovely. A Mal mix, she is actually a pretty calm puppy. She is good with big dogs, good inside and outside. Her halo intake card said she was surrendered because they could not afford her. So our little Bunny will have a great life, a family that can afford her. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Cornelius is  a 75lbs, 4 yr old Mastiff mix. Cornelius was surrendered to the shelter on 12/9.  His owner had died.  He was afraid and it took some work from the volunteers to get him out of his kennel into the yard.  The volunteers continually worked with him and he kept improving.  Unfortunately, he was set to be put to sleep the week of 1/18. The Stanislaus volunteers came together and CalPaws agreed to take Cornelius in.  When we assessed him, we could see he was fearful at first but then warmed up to the people around him. He is curious about other dogs but is fearful at first.  We’re working with a trainer to get a full assessment.  Right now, he’s decompressing at a home away from the resident dogs.  We took him to a local pet store,  where there were no other dogs and he did well with strangers as long as they did not approach him too fast or from behind. The perfect home for Cornelius would be a family with older teenage kids who have had dogs before.  Cornelius needs to have a large yard for him to do his zoomies and get his energy out.  Right now we would have him as an only dog but if a family has their heart set on him and they have another dog, we will have our trainer assess the situation for  compatibility. Probably best with no cats either. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting.
