“Just like the mythical creature I’m named after, I’m often misunderstood until you learn more about me. This is my second time at the shelter and even though many people have been kind to me, my trust for humans is still a work in progress. I was found in my home, alone and abandoned after my family moved and didn’t take me with them. I’ve always been a little nervous around people but it’s because I haven’t found a person yet that I can fully trust, and the times I’ve tried, I’ve ended up alone again. A couple people at the shelter have gotten to see my softer side a few times and they keep hoping that the right person will come along that can give me the time and patience I need to truly come out of my shell. Unfortunately, months have passed since I was brought here and I still wake up every day and find myself in this cage. Sure, people peek into my cage here and there but I don’t know them and hiss or growl to make them go away. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be a lap cat but it would be nice to curl up next to a person of my very own, on a soft warm bed in a home I’m at ease in. I’m not really a mean cat, at least I don’t want to be, and sometimes I even get confused at my own reactions to certain things but everything seems scary when you’re alone. The medicine I take every day has helped me feel more comfortable in my own skin and I think it would work even better once I’m out of the shelter. It doesn’t taste so bad and I don’t mind eating it with my wet food. If you think you could welcome a misunderstood friend into your life, I promise that with time, I will do my best to trust you.” Although Dragon is a senior cat, her recent lab work shows that she’s healthy and has no signs of any medical conditions. Dragon is currently taking an anti-anxiety medication daily and a 90 day supply of this medication would be given to her new family at the time of adoption. From our observations and what we know about Dragon’s past, she would likely do best in a home without other animals or small children.   Disclaimer: Medical information provided is obtained by partnering veterinary clinics and behavioral information is gathered by observation from shelter staff, volunteers, fosters, and previous owners. Diggles, Wiggles, call me what you want, but you gotta admit, my name is fun to say! And calling me Diggles Wiggles is accurate because I love to wiggle out of my cage, only to sit underneath it and continuously poke my head out to see if you're still looking for me, like a game of hide and seek. I am a super sweet kitty who loves it when people are gentle and kind with me and let me be myself, whether that means giving me time to hide or giving me lots of love when I'm ready for it or playing fun games with me. I am a nervous girl, though, and am frightened when I have to meet new cats or dogs. I might be okay with slow, positive introductions to other animals, but I likely would also be just as happy if not more so as an only cat. As long as the children are kind and respectful toward me, I am okay with kids, but children that haven't learned how to give boundaries to a cat might be too much for me. If you want to adopt a really sweet and pretty kitty, come by and meet me! Come meet me at the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Rd, Trenton, ME 04605! If you fill out an application ahead of time, you can be pre-approved to adopt and take me home the same day you visit, if we're a pawfect fit! And if we're not, you might meet your next pet while visiting me, so it's worth it to fill out that application! If you aren't in a position to adopt right now, you can still support me through our Pet Pal program. Monthly givers in our Pet Pal program get letters, photos, and more directly from us animals - you can even mention you want to hear directly from me. Join today! show less
