Hello! My name is Penne, and I'm about the most purrfect kitten you could meet! I come from Bucksport and was transferred to the SPCA because that's what no-kill animal shelters do, they help each other out. I love it when volunteers come by and choose me for a session of kitty cuddling, although I'm not so keen on the actual being picked up part. I do like snuggling up to people on a chair as long as it's my choice, though! I just don't care for being picked up, but it's not like I'm mean about it. I don't have a mean bone in my body, after all! I love other cats and play "pawsies" with my neighbor, River. Also when I saw some puppies, I was super curious and wanted to meet them, so I'm likely good with dogs. Really, you don't get much better than Penne! show less

Hello! I'm Shadow, and I'm just about the best boy ever. If you're looking for someone to hang out with, cool, I'll sit with you. If you want to cuddle, sure, I'll do that for a bit. Do you want to play? Yeah, I'm game. I'm just sweet and wonderful and patient. I have had a hard first two years of my life with a family that said I "deserved" whatever injuries came my way, and yet I still look at humans and think how great you all are. I came to the SPCA with an injured paw, but then shortly before becoming available for adoption in September, my face started swelling up. Like, really swelling. My foot had healed well and I had already been treated with antibiotics, so it came as a surprise to learn it was an abscess from an old bite wound. Yup, I have seen my fair share of scraps, and I'm only two years old! Because bite wounds of unknown origin typically cause abscesses like that, it was required by law that I go through a four-month quarantine from the date of my arrival at the shelter. So on December 26th, I can go home! Maybe someone will line me up for a home so I can celebrate that day with a family? How wonderful would that be! show less

Oh, hello. My name is Cornflake, and I am a very sweet and delicate fluffy girl. I'm one of the cats that came from Maryland's The Animal Care Shelter of Kent County to the SPCA here in Maine. I've been settling in since arriving, even though the trip was kind of long and scary at times. I am an extremely nice girl but a bit of a sensitive soul, so I would likely do best with kids that are used to cats or older kids that can respect that I might startle with a lot of loud, sudden noises. I do like other cats and easily integrate in a home with others, but I haven't made it clear yet on how I feel about dogs. Hello there! My name is Daisy. I'm a lovely middle-aged dilute torbie - that's a tabby tortoiseshell with muted colors. I came to the SPCA from Maryland with a group of other kitties from the Animal Care Shelter of Kent County, so I already have my shots and am fixed. I'm ready to go home! I am a very sweet girl who loves looking out windows and getting love - on my own terms. So I may be best for older kids that know how to read a kitty's body language before I get sassy on them and need to tell them to stop loving on me more forcefully. I do like other cats, as long as they recognize I am their queen. I would do best with slow introductions to other animals, including cats. Hey, new friend! I'm Frankie, also known as Frankie the Phat Man. I'm a big boy all the way from Maryland. I was a stray there, but clearly I had plenty of love and yummy food. Now I'm here at the SPCA with my friends. I don't seem to mind cats or dogs that much, although slow introductions are always recommended. I do have some signs of anxiety, such as my oily but flakey skin, and I get a little bit skittish around sudden movements and loud noises, so homes with small children aren't really ideal for me. Hello there!  My name is Petunia and I am one of the cats that were transferred to the SPCA from Maryland! I am a lovely, playful girl who ADORES her toys!  I had been staying at that shelter since February of 2021. The reason I've been in the shelter so long is that I am a special needs cat! I have tested positive for Calicivirus. Much like FeLV (Feline Leukemia) this virus can be spread to other cats through saliva if they do not have a distemper vaccine. Unlike FeLV, though, I can enjoy a long and healthy life! I'm mostly what you call a carrier cat, meaning cats that are not vaccinated with FVRCP are at the most risk around me.  While in Maryland, I was in a few foster homes with and without other cats. Calicivirus cannot be transferred to humans or dogs. I was treated for a persistent upper respiratory back in Maryland and may need to be treated again in the future. I encourage you to do your research about my special needs. I can live happily with other cats as long as you keep them up-to-date on their FVRCP vaccine (also commonly called feline distemper), though it would likely be best if I went to a home with cats over a year old and no elderly, immune-compromised cats. If you're looking for a fun, lovable kitty that is less-adoptable, look no further - I would LOVE to meet you! show less
