I am not what you call a socialized cat. In fact, the animal caretakers here at the SPCA found I was nearly impossible to handle during my first few weeks here. I have warmed up a little bit to them and let them touch me ... a little. I still prefer to be more on the feral side, though. The SPCA isn't currently equipped to handle feral cats and give us the space we need to relax; they're more equipped for socialized cats that don't mind confinement or being with humans. I would rather march to the beat of my own independent drum. Because of that, my best life is NOT indoors. I would much rather be a barn cat, allowed to go outside. I would be a good farm cat or mouser. Thing is, barn cats get lonely. We do better in pairs. Renoir is currently paired with me. He's a male cat, also more on the feral side. If you can respect my independence and let me be the cat I want to be, then we might be able to come to a mutual understanding and agreement with each other. Just don't expect me to turn into a housecat and snuggle on your lap. I might bring you mice, though, if you're good ... and if you seem that helpless. show less

I am quite the feral man, which means I would be a great mouser or barn cat. Over time, I might even warm up more to people. Thing with barn cats is we need to be adopted in pairs. This is usually done by adopting out a pair of feral cats so we can continue to socialize with each other and enjoy a better quality of life. Right now, the only other feral around is Caravaggio. I could go with other cats, but they need to be one that I can regularly socialize with in my space, and that space may not be in your house but rather a shed, barn or other enclosure that I can also go out and visit the outdoors from. show less

I'm Stitch but I don't steal left shoes or cause traffic jams or any other mass mayhem. I'm just a really scared puppy on the verge of becoming a grown dog, after all. I could really use someone gentle, kind, and patient to draw me out and help me adjust to a home life. Treats would definitely encourage me to settle down! I'm a very sweet boy and more docile than my brother, Diesel. I really, really love cookies and giving me those are the quickest way to become my friend. Like my mom, Anna, and siblings, I was never really taught anything about how to be a good dog, like how to walk on a leash or what humans expect when they say things like "sit" or "stay", but I would be willing to learn. It's hard to say how I am with other animals or children, since I am very timid and don't like to be surprised. My full personality might not come out until I'm actually settled into a home, but as long as I have plenty of treats to munch on right now, that's fine by me. show less

Hey there, new friend! My name is Sampson, and I’ve been in and out of several homes in my four years of life. I’m an Alaskan Malamute and nearly 100 lbs of dog, so I’m like a horse running around, but I am a very sweet boy who gives plenty of warning growls to let you know when I’m being annoyed. Like at the vets, I don’t like going there! But I’m good on a leash, awesome in the car and love going for rides, and I am super friendly meeting new people. I sound nearly perfect, don’t I? Just a big love bug! I do have a few preferences, though, so I’m not suited for every home. For one thing, any food that touches the ground is mine. Remember that. I get dibs on all food on the floor. I can get pretty demanding and touchy on this subject, so I am not ready to go to a home with little kids and probably not cats either. If I got into a turf battle for food on the ground with a cat, well, I’m a big boy and it may not go so well. I have a history of being aggressive with other dogs but that was also before I was neutered. Aggression is common in unaltered dogs, especially big boys like me, and I seem to have mellowed out since coming to the shelter. Other dogs don’t bother me so much anymore! Guess there are benefits to those snip snips. Anyway, the thing is, I’m still a big boy and I have some stubbornness. If another dog huffs up and picks a fight with me, I’m not going to turn tail and run. So I would be best suited as an only dog or with dogs that are confident and not going to feel threatened by me in their space and homes. According to one of my former owners, I love going for swims. SPCA has yet to install a dog pool or manmade pond for me to test this out. But I sure do love activity! I’m a good boy, really, and already know how to sit and paw, though I don’t always feel like listening to humans to do them. I’m going to be a great dog for someone who understands my breed and who is willing to invest time and energy into being a companion for me too. Many of my caveats seem quite trainable, so I hope someone takes me home for good soon! show less

Yeah, they call me Biggie. Used to be called Big Daddy back when I was a stray cat, but nowadays I go by just Biggie because I'm a big boy. New situations can make me a little scared and sad, so I might be a little hissy when I'm a startled, but I'm a nice boy who won't try to hurt you. And once I settle in, I'm a big love that enjoys pets and belly rubs and LOVES catnip, toys, and yummy food! I'm good with other cats as long as they're mellow and mindful of space, but young kids might startle me. It's hard to say how I am with dogs at this point though I might be willing to give them a try as I like the company other animals. Speaking of that, I should mention that I am a much happier boy when I'm around other cats that like my company! Humans make me a little nervous but I gain much more confidence when I have feline friends! I am very affectionate and I trust humans so much more when other cats are around. I might be okay in a home without other cats but I think it would be best if I could go home to some feline brothers or sisters! show less

Hi there, My name’s Gandalf and I’m a bit of a mystery man. There isn’t much information for my caretakers to go on about my age or history. I came to the SPCA in July as a stray. Too bad I can’t talk, because I would surely have a tale to tell you! I’m very focused on food, so you can assume it hasn’t been easy for me. I've been misunderstood before too; when I was in stray holding, they actually thought I was a girl! This commonly happens to neutered males, so I was definitely owned by someone at some time, but who knows what happened sadly. Needless to say, I've gone through some tough times and heartbreak, so I've become what they call "spicy", meaning I get fresh when you get in my space. As a stray I had to look out for myself in all kinds of situations. Hopefully my new owner will understand where I’m coming from, and recognize my body language and give me the space I need to feel safe. On the flip side, my spiciness makes me a hoot and I'm always entertaining! It’s probably best to not have me in a home where there’s a lot of commotion with other animals and children. I've become good buddies with Neptune, who is a very shy but sweet guy here. He's a black-and-white tuxedo and loves to follow me around. It would be great if we could stay together and go to a home with each other! show less

I first got to the shelter in January and was adopted and in a home for four months, but we just weren't a good match. Now I'm back in the green community room with some old friends, but I'm still very shy and I tend to hide in my special box most of the day. I do like head pats, though, if you come over and give me attention, I do appreciate it. I think I would blossom in a home away from all these noises and too many people; will you give me a chance? I could really use a home with lots of space, quiet time, and places to hide while I get used to it, and a family that will keep showing me love even when I don't seem to respond to it. I promise, I am paying attention. It takes awhile for me to believe you're someone who is going to really and truly be there for me, and I might never be as open as some cats. But when I do feel calm around you, I'll start happy drooling. I have a sweet heart that I feel like I need to protect carefully, so please understand that if you want to be my family. I really would love a family. Since returning to the shelter, I've recently made friends with Gandalf the Grey. He is so brave and spicy, I like being around him! I hope we get to stay best friends furever and are adopted together. We're both good guys with quirks! show less
