Oh gosh, it's a human, hide! My name is Juneberry, and I am one of the several cats that were rescued at the beginning of June. We were found hanging around a property long after the previous owner had passed away, and we had made ourselves comfortable in the dumpster when the new person found us and brought us to the SPCA. We're still very skittish and not well-socialized, so most of us qualify for the Barn Cat program at the SPCA, where we would be adopted out in pairs to suitably approved farms and large properties with durable enclosures for cats like us, and where our human caretaker could keep an eye on us, feed us, and trap us for veterinary care when needed. In return, we would likely be amazing mousers! We're at least pro dumpster divers. Come meet me at the SPCA of Hancock County at 141 Bar Harbor Rd, Trenton, ME 04605! Please note that right now, to keep all the humans that care for me safe, visits are by appointment only. So fill out an application on me and they can schedule a meet-and-greet at your convenience. I hope we're a pawfect fit! And if we're not, you might meet your next pet while visiting me, so it's worth it to fill out that application! If you aren't in a position to adopt right now, you can still support me through our Pet Pal program. Monthly givers in our Pet Pal program get letters, photos, and more directly from us animals - you can even mention you want to hear directly from me. Join today! show less

I am Aragorn, and depending on who you ask about me, you may hear that I am an evil cat, a monkey, or a big baby. I am one of those "complicated" cats that tends to act out with play aggression and gets overstimulated. This has resulted in me having a bite history, since I think human legs are some of the funnest toys ever, and new things scare me. I have shown I can be a wonderful kitty with a lot of love and affection in me when I'm with the right people, since one of the staff members here has worked with me and even fostered me. She says my name should have been Smeagol/Golem because I guard my favorite things like they are The Precious. She rewards me when I do a good behavior, like when I let someone go by and don't nip at them even when I don't want them to leave, or if I disengage from being overwhelmed. Because of my bite history, plus my high-stress response, I would not be happy in a home with younger children. I need to be in a home with adults only or at least teenagers. I would prefer a quiet home where I can see the same people most days and experience a routine that keeps me happy - I'm not exactly an adventure cat. I am very interested in other cats but don't know how to interact with them. I would be best paired with another cat that is calm and patient as I learn social cues from them. I have a tendency to greet new things with hisses and yowls, and most cats find that upsetting. But I have enjoyed my time with one of my foster brothers, who has been showing me how to play. You can learn more about me on our social media, where my foster mom posted photos and videos of my time in her home. If you aren't in a position to adopt right now, you can still support me through our Pet Pal program. Well, hello there. My name is Cocoa, and I am a gorgeous Oriental Siamese who is now 12 years young. I have been on a bit of a rollercoaster journey since coming to the SPCA, where I lost a lot of weight and they were concerned about my health, but after a lot of vet visits and consultation, we've decided I am ready to be adopted. I will need an adopter who can keep up with my ongoing health needs and adapt to those needs, which may mean vet visits in my near future, but I am sure someone out there must be willing to help a fellow out with that, right? I may be 12 years old, but I still have plenty of spunk and am VERY much a Siamese. My favorite times are the days I get to spend hanging out with staff or volunteers and "helping" them work at their desk. I am happy to jump up on their laps and walk on keyboards and roll around for attention, and I even get feisty still and will play bite. Actually, that feisty side can get me into a touch of trouble. See, I have an ongoing bite history. I was always naughty with my mom and would bite her too rough, and now that I have been at the shelter a little while and settled in, I've shown I really don't like certain situations. Like, children, for instance. I am not very nice to children or their parents, so I have been banned from the community cat rooms, even though I love other cats. So yeah, I am not really a suitable cat for homes with small children, or really anyone that is not prepared to handle my naughty streaks. But I am the purrfect companion for someone who wants a buddy with beautiful blue eyes, a ton of curiosity, and a love of other animals. I am still perfectly young at heart so don't be too intimidated by my age! show less
