Boop DSH, Black and white Female, 1 year old Arrival Date: 4/25/20 Characteristics sweet, affectionate, bonded to Betty "Boop de boop! We're the super cute and super sweet Betty and Boop girls! We're a bonded pair of sisters that are now all set and ready to go find our forever homes! We've won over the shelter staff, so much so that they can't wait to see us get lined up for a good home. We're young and lovely girls, and we sure get along with each other just great! We really want to go home together. There's not a lot of dogs around here that are good with cats, so we don't know how we are with dogs, but we are fine with other cats. We also don't seem to mind children! "How is it that NO ONE has asked about us? Is it because we're too sweet? We do have a little bit of spunk, we're not all sugar and spice and everything nice. Nah, that can't be it. Maybe people are too busy looking for kittens or single cats. But we sure hope there is someone out there who is looking for two bonded girls that will bring a lot of fun and love into their lives." Can't adopt Betty and Boop but want to help them out? Make a donation to them today! If you want to do even more, you can consider sponsoring a kennel for a year. These options and more are available at our website, spcahancockcounty.org/donate If you would like to know more about these girls, please feel free to get in touch with us online or by calling us at 667-8088 from 11 am to 5 pm. PLEASE NOTE: During our adoption process, we will do a vet check on your current pets or previous pets from the past 10 years to make sure they've been up-to-date with rabies shots (required by law for dogs and cats) and vaccines. We also will do a check with your landlord if you rent. show less

DLH, White with dark gray spots Female, 4 years old Special notes: Blueberry does not like other cats but she is okay with some dogs; which dogs, we are never exactly sure as she knows her mind better than we do! Blueberry also struggles to groom herself properly and will require assistance; getting her a haircut at the vet is always an ideal option because she doesn't really like being over-handled. She also has a persistent cough, unknown origin but likely asthma or allergy related.  "Goodness, here I am again! I have been in and out of homes for well over a year now since coming to the SPCA, and sometimes, it really stresses me out! I wish I could settle in and find my purrfect home, but it seems like one bad thing after another happens and I have some pretty rotten luck. But I'm hoping that will change. I have been working on my anxiety and try to assure the humans that I'm as super duper sweet as can be, when I'm in the mood for it. I have a lot of personality and know what I like and don't like, even if humans don't always understand it - poor creatures, they're not the brightest! "I really don't like other cats but I don't have a problem if you previously owned cats and the scent might be there; I just don't like dealing with cat social dynamics more than anything. With dogs, I either hate them or tolerate them but I haven't quite revealed the secret of which ones I like to the humans; their best guess is I want to be the alpha pet and would do better with a timid, unassuming dog. Or be by myself with a human to adore me. I like that idea too. "Despite my finicky preferences, I love to reward good humans with kisses. I will even roll around on the floor and display my ample, fluffy belly while giving kisses; don't think this means I want belly rubs, though. I'm just showing how much I love and trust you, so don't betray that, okay? "I KNOW there has to be a family out there for me where I can finally have my forever home like the other cats and dogs. My journey has been a long one, but I hope it is leading me to the perfect someone that will complete my life and really, truly give me a home." show less

DLH, Gray Tabby and White Male, 8 months old Titian is one of the cats we've recently taken in from a semi-feral cat colony. He is not socialized and would do best with a patient home that would give him time to socialize and adapt and understand he is not really a "lap cat". He may also do well as a barn cat. We define barn cats as cats allowed outdoors to hunt, etc. but still have access to an indoor shelter to protect them from the elements. We commonly adopt barn cats out in pairs. "Humans! There is no end to you! I wish I could just go someplace quiet where I could be left along with not so many humans and animals making noise. And must you get so close when you're cleaning my space? Personal space, please! I'd rather hunt and be in tune with my wild instincts. Can't you people understand that? I know, I am beautiful. You want to touch me. I get that, for a little bit. But I would rather be out there, doing my own thing. I don't think I would mind being with a person who understands that and appreciates it about me." Can't adopt Titian but want to help him out? He’s actually got a GoFundMe going on if you want to give toward it. He’s one of the many semi-feral cats we’ve rescued lately thanks to the joined efforts of the community here in Hancock County. https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/it-takes-a-village-help-spca-neuter-13-cats If you would like to know more about Titian, please feel free to get in touch with us through email or by calling us at 667-8088 from 11 am to 5 pm. Botticelli DLH, Brown tabby and white Male, 2 years old Special notes: Botticelli came from a semi-feral cat colony, so he is not very sociable. However, Botticelli has been doing MUCH better and comes out to see humans when Marcel DuChomp, his "brother", comes out and shows him it's safe. Marcel is very confident unlike Botticelli, so we want to keep these two together so Botticelli can feel safe and improve his temperament.  “Meh, people! I don’t wanna deal with the likes of your kind! Although I guess the treats and tasty foods are nice … Okay, you’re not ALL bad, but don’t think I like you, okay? I gotta act tough because I’m a big, strong boy cat, so don’t listen to the stories from my handlers that I just hiss a little and then you can scruff me and pill me. They don’t know what they’re talking about. I've been showing them how tough I am lately by refusing to give any loves, even with Marcel going soft on the humans! Though I will admit... Marcel is very convincing... I've come out to sniff a hand or two just to see what Marcel is going on about." ”Okay, if I’m totally honest … I’m not a mean cat. It’s not like I want to pick a fight with anyone. I’m just scared and stuck on survival mode. But I won’t bite you like Marcel Du-Chomp will when he's angry. He’s like my brother. We come from the same place. I do fine with other cats, considering I’ve grown up in a cat colony, and I may even warm up a little to a special, patient person if they gave me enough time, treats, and love.” Can't adopt Botticelli but want to help him out? Bonded to Botticelli DLH, Orange and White Male, 8 months old "Fear me, if you dare! I am the best at what I do, but what I do best isn't very nice. I have proved myself a mighty boy, no, man many times by biting at the hands of puny humans who dare to try manhandle me. I was perfectly content until the humans came along. But ohhh, I guess you all aren't SO bad. Just the other day, I even enjoyed a glove-free petting from my handler. Just don't tell the other cats, okay? Gotta keep my tough guy rep... but my buddy Botticelli has seen my new ways and he even might be coming around too. I'm like his emotional support cat. I'm the brave one, and I show him things aren't so bad afterall." "Oh, but let's face it. I'm just a big pussycat. I am just a kitten still after all. You can see I've warmed up to the people here and do love on humans that win me over. I'm not really as feral as I played it up to be; I'm more of a tough guy with strangers, if anything. So if you're looking for a guard cat or bodyguard that will love you forever as long as you have yummy treats and know how to scratch behind my ears, well, I'm your man-cat." Staffordshire terrier/lab mix, brindle coat Male, 7 years old. Medium weight (about 60 pounds) "Hi there! Some of you might recognize me from a few years ago. I went home for a while but acted out against a child, so my family decided I would be happier if I had another chance at a forever home. I’m a 7-year-old Staffie/Lab mix named Guinness, and I am looking for a family of my very own. I am a very affectionate boy who loves to play. I like to talk and will use my voice to say lots of different things. Guess you could say I’m pretty vocal. I am currently working on my manners and am making great progress. I am already house trained and know several commands. Some of my favorite things are playing with other dogs, going for walks, and giving affection to my humans. I have lived with children over the age of 12 and did very well with them. But I get picky and have nipped at the face of a child (no blood was drawn, so it's okay, right?) when they were annoying me, so I'm not really suitable for houses with young kids. I prefer to be handled gently and have been known to react if treated forcefully. I am looking forward to finding a new family who will show me kindness and love. If a loving, playful and handsome boy sounds like the furry family member you are looking for, I just may be the one for you. Can’t wait to meet you! Also according to some staff members who may or may not be named Katie, I don't like Katie's. It's nothing personal. It's just personal." Can't adopt Guinness but want to help him out? You can make a donation to help support the cost of his care today. We even offer affordable packages to sponsor a kennel. Visit our website spcahancockcounty.org/donate to learn more! show less

Basquiat DSH, Brown Tabby Medium, Adult Special notes: Basquiat is one of the cats we have recently taken in from a semi-feral colony. He is sweeter than some of the other semi-ferals, but he is still a bit shy and would do best with a patient home that would give him time to socialize and adapt. He may also enjoy being allowed outdoors. He can coexist with other cats and at least some dogs. He may find children overwhelming. "I may swat and hiss at first but the truth is, I just want love! I just don't always know how to accept it. But with enough patience, time, and gentle handling (with lots of treat reinforcement!), I have hope of being a good indoor kitty one day. I'm scared of new things and may start off well as an indoor/outdoor cat, and I may even be a great barn kitty for you by hunting around the premises. But I have a lot of love in me too that I would like to share, if I could find someone willing to help show me how to let it out." Can't adopt Basquiat but want to help? He has a GoFundMe! Australian shepherd/border collie mix, Red tri-color Male, 1 year old 60 lbs Not good with cats or small animals! Dogs depend on meet and greets; he needs to be carefully introduced "Hey there! Looking for a fun, energetic dog to keep you company, maybe drag you on some runs? Look no further! I'm not only fun, I am beautiful too! I would make a great model for your Instagram or TikTok videos. But in all seriousness, hi there, I'm Rocco. I was named Rocky when I transferred over here from The Ark, but there was already a dog named Rocky here, so the SPCA called me Rocco. Humph! I thought I had first dibs on the name too. Oh well. "Transfer, you hear? Why, yes. The Ark is better equipped for smaller animals, and I'm just big enough to make things uncomfortable for them. When I came here, I had a history of being aggressive toward the other dogs at The Ark, but since then, I've showed promsie that with the right introductions, I might be able to go to a home with other dogs. I seem to have a pretty strong prey drive, so I'm not suited for small animals at all. They tried seeing if I was good with cats, but just seeing a kitty-cat made me want to go full hunt mode! So they said I failed and no cats for me. "Still, I'm a young dog with a big, long life ahead of me, and with the right human by my side to guide me, I can make an amazing companion and adventurer. So what do you say, want to be partners?" Can't adopt Rocco but want to support him? You can make a donation toward the cost of his care. Every bit helps us continue to keep our doors open to save animals like Rocco. You can even sponsor a kennel. To find out how, check out our website, spcahancockcounty.org/donate. show less
