Sabine is a soft, quiet kitten with a gentle soul and the sweetest eyes. At just five months old, she is still discovering the world and learning to trust it. While she may be a little shy at first, there's something truly special about watching her come out of her shell, one small step at a time. When Sabine first arrived at the shelter, she preferred to stay tucked into cozy hidey beds, observing from a distance and taking everything in. Little by little, she has started to show more of her personality. She has discovered the joy of play! She's especially fond of folks who will give her a moment to warm up before jumping into excitement.. Sabine is looking for a home where she can continue to build her confidence at her own pace. She would do well with a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time, but that it's worth every moment. There is something incredibly rewarding about earning Sabine’s trust. She may not be the first to run up and ask for attention, but once she feels secure, she will offer her affections. She is well on her way to becoming a loyal, loving companion, and she just needs the right person to help her along the way. If you have the patience and quiet love to give this pretty kitty, Sabine might be the perfect match for you. You can see her at the SPCA-HC Tuesday-Saturday from 12 to 4. Please fill out an adoption application if you’re interested. show less

Meet Mako, our whirlwind of energy who’s ready to take on the world! This 2-year-old white shepherd-husky mix (give or take a few wild guesses) is a non-stop, go-go-go machine. His motto? "Why sit when you can zoom?" Mako has enough energy to power a small city - and he's just getting started. Mako hasn’t always been treated the right way, but you wouldn’t guess that based on how loving and goofy he is.  Now we’re not going to lie…Mako is very pretty, but don’t let his good looks fool you - he is a LOT. He can be like a pogo stick with a mind of its own, constantly bouncing from one thing to the next. When meeting new people, he wears a muzzle - not because of aggression, but because of excitement. He communicates his excitement with his mouth, and a muzzle helps reduce the risk of him grabbing or nipping during moments of excitement, which can be especially useful when meeting new people or in unfamiliar situations.  Mako needs an adopter who’s ready to keep up with his turbo-charged personality. He needs someone experienced who can channel all that energy and keep him on track. He’s big, he’s mouthy, and he’s got a heart of gold... that you’ll probably never get to see because he’s always moving too fast. Ready to add a little chaos to your life? Come meet Mako and get ready for the ride of your life! If you are interested in Mako, please fill out an adoption application so that we can set up a meet and greet: https://www.spcahancockcounty.org/adopt/ show less

Big cat. Big opinions. Bigger personality. Let us introduce you to Morpheus - a big ball of personality and mild chaos. He recently underwent surgery to correct a condition called entropion, where his eyelids turned inward. We tried treating it with daily medication, but we valued our lives and opted for a surgery that could resolve his discomfort. Now that he’s healing up, he’s back to doing what he does best: staring into your soul and making us think an earthquake is happening when he’s just hunting a toy mouse.  Morpheus plays tough, loves hard (on his terms), and makes sure you know who's in charge. Spoiler: it's him. He's the kind of cat who likes his play sessions intense and has no respect for your personal space. He gives hugs.  What does a potential adopter need to know about Morph? Dogs? He has filed a formal complaint. Hard pass. Cats? Maybe. If they can keep up with his WWE SmackDown style of play.  Humans? Yes, especially the ones who get his vibe - independent, a little spicy, and not afraid of a cat with opinions. Morpheus isn’t for everyone, but if you're someone who respects a strong-willed, slightly dramatic, and deeply charming feline, he might just be your perfect match. Morpheus is available for adoption at the SPCA of Hancock County! Come visit him (if you dare) at 141 Bar Harbor Road in Trenton, or read more about him on our website: https://www.spcahancockcounty.org/ . show less

ANNIE IS IN A FOSTER HOME AND NOT AT THE SPCA-HC. SHE IS PENDING A SPAY SURGERY BEFORE SHE WILL BE AVAILABLE. From Annie's foster: This is Annie! We are guessing she is approximately 1 to 2 years old and a poodle mix. She is about 45 pounds. Unfortunately, we do not have any more history of information on her. She was rescued from a neglected situation and removed from a condemned home. She was covered head to toe in extremely thick matting. She was taken to the vet, where she was given a rabies vaccination and was shaved completely. A good Samaritan offered to foster her, so she did not have to stay at the Small Animal Clinic.  As far as we know, her situation in the previous home, was that the person never left the house, so the dog had never been outside, went to the bathroom inside the home, was fed junk human food, and had no form of any training and had never been told “No’.  She has been doing well and progressing at her foster home and has had many firsts! She loves it outside, she loves toys, she loves going on walks on her leash, her digestive system is adjusting to a normal dog food diet, had her first car ride, wearing a collar (and a jacket since she was completely shaved down in the middle of winter).  And many more firsts! She did live with a cat, so we assume she is cat-friendly. We are not sure how she does with children because she is so shy, and she has not been tested with kids. She has been tested with another dog and did well, though she feared the other dog and kept her distance and ran away from him a little bit. She got a nail trim in the home and did well for that. She has not shown any signs of aggression at all. We are unsure of how she did to get shaved down, so we don’t know how she is going to be for future grooming, which she will obviously need. She is potty trained now, has not had any accidents in the house recently. She has only had one accident in the house since the foster brought her home. She is very shy and wary of new people, but once she gets used to you, she becomes very attached and is very sweet. Loud noises startle her because she is very sensitive and scared. She has had a hard time with being left alone; however, she has been left at home during the day while the foster is at work. So that is a work in progress of her separation anxiety. We tried kennel training her, and that did not go well at all. She was able to bend the metal frame and get out and slightly hurt herself in the process. She is closed in the bathroom while the foster is not home, and does well with her bed and toys in there with her. She would do great in a home with someone who is patient and willing to work with her and train her. Also, someone who is home often because of the separation anxiety. Her foster would like to find her a forever home by June but is willing to continue fostering her until then, so she does not have to go to a shelter. We are looking to spread the word and help with facilitating a good home for her and we know that shelters do good screening on potentional adopters, so we would love your help. Thank you so much!" show less
