Hi! I'm Mandy. I'm a very sweet girl. I like rolling around on my back, saying hi to everyone, sitting in laps, and just generally being beautiful. I love all humans, big and small, old and young, and not much really fazes me. I have a silly streak too and like climbing some humans in funny ways. Sometimes, you look like towers or trees to me, and I must get to the very top! I'm a laidback cat who is fine with children and other cats - not so sure about dogs but that may just depend on the dog. I was here last winter and went home for a little while, but then I developed chronic tummy issues. My family took me to the vet A LOT and couldn't get to the bottom of it but were getting to the bottom of their wallets, so they brought me back here in hopes I would get treatment and find someone who could afford my care. I still have chronic diarrhea and we're trying to find out if it is food-related or what. I hope someone might still give me a chance, even with tummy issues, and that they might help me feel better. I'm an incredibly loving girl just waiting to be a lap cat. Can't adopt but want to help out? Hello, dearie! I'm Millie, an older gal in search of a beautiful home to retire in - know any wonderful spots around here? I'm a Maltese-Yorkie mix, approximately 10 to 13 years old. I'm extremely docile and sweet, so I do just fine with cats. I'm also compatible with other dogs, especially if they can be relaxed and passive with me - I am quite small so an overly excited pup is just not a good match for me! Kind of like with dogs, I am okay with children, they just need to understand I would rather sleep than play. I may not have the same pep in my step that I had in my youth, but I am definitely a people's dog and love to trot at your heel. I do well in the car and enjoy riding in my harness with a seatbelt on. I also don't mind being picked up and carried - how cute is that! Sometimes I'm convinced I'm more of a cat than a dog because I like to cruise along the floor in search of cat food to munch on. Right now, the humans here at the shelter suspect I have Cushing's disease, an endrocrine disorder that can be controlled with medication. Because of this, I would be going home as a medical foster-to-adopt to start with, since I have a vet appointment on October 1st to determine if I do have Cushing's or not. Once that appointment is over, we can figure out the best course of action for treatment with my foster parents and finalize the adoption. You might also want to know I likely will need some dental treatment, possibly even some teeth pulled. I also need frequent potty breaks; it could be because of the possible endocrine issues but I have trouble holding my bladder through the night. I may even benefit from diapers or being shut in my own space at night with doggie pee pads. This issue of holding my bladder might be resolved if I do have Cushing's and receive proper treatment. Senior dogs like me are GREAT for first-time dog owners because we're easy to care for and full of love. We really are super for anyone looking for a canine companion that maybe doesn't want all the chaotic energy of a puppy or younger dog. If you think that's you, please apply to foster me today! I would love to meet you. Can't adopt but want to help out? Do you know what's scary? Being 20 years old and finding yourself homeless. My parents were suddenly evicted and had nowhere to go, so they did the best thing they could and brought me to the SPCA so I could be cared for. I sure miss them and my old life, though. Sometimes when I'm telling new people about the good ol' days in my big, booming voice, they think I'm angry or something. But I actually just have a loud, deep voice. The quickest way to my heart is through catnip and wet food. I LOVE catnip. I love it so much, it just makes me happy to be offered catnip. Since coming to the SPCA and seeing a vet again for the first time in many, many years, I've found out I've got hyperthyroidism. This is a common condition in old kitties so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise. Good news is it's easily treated with medication, and the medication doesn't cost much. Even with supplements for my creaky old joints, my meds only come to about $25 every two months or so! And I'm a great boy about taking my pills. I gulp them right down. If you've never given a cat a pill before, just ask the people here at the SPCA - they do it a lot so they can show you how! I'm an old man and not bothered by much, so I'm likely fine with other cats, dogs, kids - doesn't matter to me as long as they don't mind my screech of a meow! I feel like a lot of people aren't going to want to take me home because I'm so old ... but I hope that someone super special with a big heart sees me and decides they can let me spend time with them in their home instead of here. It's not that it's bad here. I would just rather be in a home, surrounded by people I could truly call my family again. show less
